Came here during the Christmas season to ice skate and this was the perfect spot to get an adult drink to warm you up before hitting the rink! The service was great! We were served quickly and got a great spot with seats, a bonfire pit and the perfect view of the ice rink on the beach! The drinks are definitely over priced and so is the food! We got a round of Irish coffees and calamari for 4 people and our bill came out to be $100. Worth the view if you're willing to shell out the cash!

The best view at the Hotel del Coronado. The bar is situated in front of all the restaurants & the glass fire pits are perfect to take the chill off after sunset. The food is NOT worth the price!! Menu is mostly seafood except for the fun dessert: Churros & Mexican hot chocolate I had the Black & White Calamari, the "black" part is a Black flour. It tastes ok but this flour sucks up waaay too much oil while the normal (white flour) battered & fried calamari tastes good & doesn't carry a lot of oil. The lemon garnish was slimy & disgusting though; NOT what I expect from an $18 appetizer. Service is ok, young college girls.

My mom has this sentimental thing for Chula Vista, because her brother used to live down there. One time when she was visiting she dragged my dad, my husband, another friend and me to all of her old stomping grounds in CV from when she used to visit her brother. She took us to this totally divey (but nice) bar where she used to hang out with him. We sat for a while, had a drink, and I was congenial. But when we were finished, I said "Ok, Mom. Now I'm going to take you to one of MY bars." And off we rode into the near sunset until we reached the Sunset Bar at the Hotel Del. All I can say is, my mom said "HOLY SH*T!" I felt kind of bad one-upping her like that, but I can be that way sometimes. There are no words to describe the Sunset Bar other than GORGEOUS and WONDERFUL and PERFECT. It's smallish, consisting of a square bar with 360 degree seating, a few tables, and then these fabulous large sofa sectionals, each surrounding a large gas firepit. Oh, and a fabulous ocean view. They have a small menu with a bunch of specialty cocktails, and some hot and cold munchies. (I think you can also order a full dinner from the neighboring restaurant, but I'm not 100% certain on that.) Cocktail-wise, I've sampled most of them at least once, and they are all spectacular. I'm particularly fond of the Blackberry Margarita, but sometimes I just opt for a simple gin martini. It's a full bar, so they'll make you anything. There is always a server working and we seem to get the same woman a lot. (We go there a lot because it's our default place to bring guests from out of town. It's hard to find anything much more impressive.) I would be heartbroken, no, crushed if this place ever closed. As it is they are only open Tues-Sat from 5 pm on, with hours subject to change. DEFINITELY check this place out if you have not.

$36 for 2 Bloody Mary's served in a plastic cup and used off-brand pre-mix (gallon jug)

The hotel is beautiful as well as the view, but if I'm going to write about the bar, it was very disappointing . The bar tender was unloading boxes and stocking the bar. We ordered 2 bloody Mary's which the bartender didn't ask us for the type of vodka. He grabbed two plastic cups and filled it with ice, vodka, and off-brand gallon jug pre-mix... He then grabbed olives between his fingers, did I mention he was opening boxes and sweating. Never washes his hands. Not bad for only $36 (before tip)... Really??? Very disappointing experience for such a nice hotel... Grab a coffee next door and skip the bar.

Great view, nice hotel with cute and friendly staff. Great before a night out or after a long day and you would like a couple drinks and or a snack before you hit the room. Love the margarita cocktails

They had good drink options and a menu that everyone could find something. I got the salmon and thought it was good but very plain and therefore expensive for what you got. We split the Brussels which were good, and others enjoyed the pot pie, gem salad, steak tacos, fish tacos and more. Overall everyone liked their food but none of the dishes blew us away.

The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. I think they might've also done it because it's easy and cheap, but it works well with the aesthetic they have.

We were given complimentary chips and salsa and then ordered some drinks that came with watermelon garnish. We shared the spicy mango ceviche and a cheese crisp for our appetizers. It's served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans and tortillas. It was very tasty! We ended up trying frozen margarita and an agua fresca as well. The frozen margarita is so refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. The vibe of the restaurant was pretty dope. They have an outdoor seating area blended with indoor seating. The decor was stunning. I loved the wallpaper and light fixtures. The tunes were bumpin'. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.

It's typically packed with kids and tourists, but it was a beautiful day and we wanted ocean views without the drive. We grabbed a corner spot with a $175 minimum, easy to hit when the menu is priced like everything was flown in from Monaco. Water: asked three times, never came. The fourth time we finally got it, and only because the manager dropped it off himself after my husband spoke to him. Water is the bare minimum. It shouldn't feel like a favor. The food came out in five minutes. Five. That's not a kitchen, that's a heat lamp. Lukewarm at best, some of it cold. The giveaway: they brought us a kids' chicken fingers plate, realized we'd ordered the adult portion, took it back, then sprinted off to grab the bigger version. That's a steam tray with a hostess. And the lobster Cobb? The lobster was cut into little circles. Circles. Lobster has never been a circle. The servers moved around like expressionless robots. When my husband politely asked to speak with the manager privately, out of respect for the staff, the manager came over looking like he couldn't care less. Somehow the service got worse after that. He comped a burger and one other item. We still walked out near $175. The cherry on top? His apology was throwing his own employee under the bus. "Yeah, he's had a lot of complaints lately." That's not a manager. That's Gossip Girl with a clipboard. Be a leader. Handle it behind the scenes. This is exactly why the staff is the way they are because leadership comes from the top and if that's broken the whole operation is broken. We left and went to The Dive rooftop at The Bower Hotel. Sat down, and within a minute someone dropped off water. We sat there genuinely grateful, which is when it hit us how badly we'd been treated. Save your $175. The view is free!!!!!
