My friend and I went to the upstairs space not thinking much of it and this rude older lady with glasses very aggressively told us to get out. I would give zero stars if I could. What used to be the best hidden gem of a dive bar has turned into a disgrace. The bartenders (or at least one) came from behind the bar to drink and mingle with the nightly guitar player, the music was absolutely horrific and 3am Rave loud. Food was horrible, drinks were horrible. We asked for our food to go just to get out of there and then threw it in the trash because the standards were just grotesque. This bar is supposed to be commemorative of fallen navy seals, but turns out it is quite the contrary. One of my closest friends has various family members who lost their lives serving our country, based from Coronado, and we have never felt so disrespected in our entire lives. One of our group members simply wanted to play pool, and very respectfully asked the bartender how many quarters she would need, and was told to "shut the fuck up". This bartender was blatantly drunk, cussing at all of us for completely unknown reasons, then kicked us out. We have been to hundreds of bars in our lives, and have never had a single issue. This is the most disrespectful bar staff any of us have ever come across. The worst part of this whole experience was that these people are supposedly upholding the incredibly courageous and admirable service of people sacrificing their literal lives for this country and our freedom, for them to treat those same heroes family and friends like absolute garbage for absolutely no reason. Side note, they tried to claim after the fact that we had "called them incompetent the weekend before and were rude." (none of us had been in town for over a year). May was slurring her words and could barely complete a single sentence because she was so drunk while on the job. She should never be employed again in any bar after they behavior we saw. I am forever indebted to the people who have sacrificed their lives for our country and my freedom. This bar and all of its employees that we encountered this night, especially May, are complete disgraces to our country, and I am ashamed of having anything to do with them, or having ever stepped foot in this bar. Have wanted to try this cool little bar tucked away on the beautiful Coronado Island for some time... So last Friday, we included it on our annual SD Christmas Pub Crawl.... We got there just after they opened at 11am..... We were met and served by the beautiful "Heather", the bartender... She was super!, we found out we have a mutual love of pups, and had a great conversation with her.... The bar is so Patriotic...with a tribute wall to Navy Seals who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Country....Man, it really makes you think, and appreciate all that Serve...God Bless them... Good, not great. But sometimes in beach towns that's all you can ask for. We read reviews and this was within walking distance of our hotel so decided this would be our first stop in town (plus it wasn't far from the grocery store). We both ordered burgers - which were pretty good. We were there just before the traditional dinner hour and the only table (a few folks at the bar). The bartender was also our server. She wasn't super attentive, or friendly. I asked questions and because they were in 'yes' or 'no' form all I got was a head nod - which is fine, at least she had the answer to the questions. I did read some folks were complaining about the prices - we didn't think that they were unrealistic as compared to the location, so the prices didn't bother us. At all. Would I go again? I gave 2 stars only because over a decade of coming here, the previous waitresses gave excellent service. With only 3 tables and one man at the bar, this is considered very slow, yet my first impression was not very nice with this current waitress. Whatever happened to "Hello. Last night, my wife and I visited Danny's Palm Bar and Grill for the first time. I had received recommendations to check this place out for years. This restaurant bar is small, but it was easy to get a table as it was fairly empty. It was a Wednesday night. There were six men sitting at bar and us at a table. Our burgers were great! I enjoyed my beer and my wife had a Sprite. The lady bartender was nice and attentive Decor is a tribute to Navy Seals. I would like to return when it is more lively. read more

I was so disappointed with the grilled cheese, it was burnt, it had a super tiny thin patty, and the fries were unsalted and bad. This place always has friendly service. And tons of history! This used to be a Mongols motorcycle club bar until the early 80's. As legend is told, a Team guy along with some buddies were regulars there until there was a fight with some Mongols. Apparently, one Mongol was killed, several other were hospitalized, and from then on it became a SEAL bar. Burgers are great!! I tried the Frank Special which is not on the menu, you just gotta know. Visited Danny's today with a friend. The bartender was super friendly along with all patrons. This is a divey bar that is frequented by SEALs and local military veterans. Ordered the onion rings and fries, not disappointed. On the wall hang pictures of those who gave their all and made the ultimate sacrifice. Just a chill bar that serves cold drinks, good food and friendly company. What more can you ask for? Bathrooms are also very clean. read more

Burger was good, but come on with the pricing. Super slam burger was $16.00 and a side of fries was $7.00. $24.78 for a burger and fries. Fries were over cooked/terrible. If you're gonna charge $7.00 it should be an enormous quantity of perfect fries. I won't be eating here at these prices. Burger was good...not great. Danny's used to be the best in SD. Not family friendly. We arrived late at our hotel, yelp'd restaurants that were open in the area, this "restaurant"popped up (1 of maybe 3 options available). When we walked in; we were instantly yelled at "no kids allowed" We honestly wanted to purchase some burgers to- go, we were told no kitchen options are available after a certain time. With that said, they should probably state that limitation somewhere on Yelp, website, sign? Their approach/ communication could have been handled differently. This review is primarily for the burgers. It's been about 20 years since my last visit here and something I really appreciate is consistency. Although it's been 20 years, their burgers are still excellent! They are located right on the main strip in Coronado and street parking isn't much of a problem. You have to love Coronado parking meters... twenty-five cents for an entire hour! So nice! Danny's is a "dive bar" so be prepared. If you walk in during daylight hours it's going to take a second or two for your eyes to adjust. I even got some strange looks from what I'm guessing were regulars. I guess I don't look like the regular type for this bar? Regardless, people in the bar are friendly and the servers are very friendly. I took a seat at the bar and almost immediately was greeted by one of the bartenders. I think she too wasn't really sure what I was doing there by the look on her face when she approached me. But I knew what I wanted so I ordered a burger and a drink and her expression changed to one of welcome immediately. The decor has certainly changed a little since my last visit 20 years ago. There is a huge dedication to Navy SEALs who have died in the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars. As I looked up at the wall of all the photos, I immediately recognized the photo of LT Michael Murphy who died in Operation Red Wings which was detailed in the movie "Lone Survivor". It was a bit surreal to look around the walls at all the fallen Navy SEALs. The bartender brought my cheeseburger and it was dry. They have ketchup, mustard and mayo on the side for you to add yourself if you want. The cheeseburger comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. Once I had added my toppings, I bite into a hot, perfectly cooked burger! Not too well done and the cheese was perfectly melted all over the patty. The bun is a soft sesame bun and the veggies are all fresh as well. I had ordered the 1/4 pound burger but it does come in 1/2 pound and full pound. The 1/4 pound was just perfect for me for today. I finished off my burger and said thanks for serving one of the best burgers in San Diego. They haven't changed a bit in all these years. If you are like me and on a search for the BEST burger, you have to stop by here. But get in before 8pm because that's when they stop cooking these magnificent burgers. And when you are here, take a look around at all of the fallen Navy SEALs. It's heartbreaking when any member of the armed forces is killed in action. I served 20 years in the Navy and it's even more heartbreaking for me when a Navy SEAL is killed and to look at all the SEALs who made the ultimate sacrifice.... it's a solemn feeling seeing all the pictures. But knowing Navy SEALs, this is also a fitting tribute to them. So please, when you are here having a drink, raise a glass for those incredibly brave men. Great food and great service! read more

Went here on a recent trip to The Del. Everything shuts early in Coronado during the cold period. (It was 45 degrees in December) Even though the bars at the Del were still pretty crowded at 10 p.m., they called last call around 9:30 p.m. and by 10 p.m. it was a ghost town. The bartender let us know about two places, Mc P's and Danny's. We chose Danny's because he said it was a little 'grittier' and we are dive bar fans. Name me a city and I can tell you the best dive bar there. We weren't told that this was basically a Navy Seal bar before we walked in as they train in Coronado and this seems to be their unofficial clubhouse. I've always admired what the Seals do for this country ... to put your life in harm's way so often in the name of freedom and to leave your family for 300 days out of the year is quite a sacrifice they make for a salary that many accountants wouldn't even touch. We were honored to drink with them. Having said that, it can be a little intimidating walking into a bar like this as a couple of guys on semi-vacation who are wearing Tommy Bahama linen shirts. At first we felt like that scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure when he walks into the biker bar and the needle scratches the record and everyone stops and looks at him like, "What the fuck are you doing in OUR bar?" These guys don't look like the type of dudes you would want to mess with ... and you don't. But we didn't want to bother anyone ... just get a few pops (or 7) at the bar and enjoy our time, so we found two open stools and sat down. Nobody talked with us ... fucked with us ... or made us feel unwelcome, which was a relief. The guys in the bar looked like a cross between the Sons of Anarchy and a GI Joe cartoon. They were pretty wild and crazy and clearly blowing off much deserved steam, but absolutely respectful of outsiders. We heard the song Danger Zone played on the jukebox twice while we were there, which seems to be an inside joke because the whole bar broke up laughing when it came on. It had the vibe of a party at 'the cool fraternity' which you got invited to in college while you were pledging and you sat there wondering if you could even hope to hang with these guys. The drinks were not at all expensive and they had a pretty good selection. The bar itself is a wonderful dive bar with everything and more you'd expect. From a jukebox (which played great music) to the colored Christmas lights and all kinds of photos and flags on the walls. There were framed pictures of SEAL team members who were killed in action and an entire wall dedicated to the helicopter crash which wiped out a lot of operators. The bar itself has a rounded corrugated metal roof which gave it a bit of a smaller aircraft hanger look. If you are looking for a dive bar ... a classic, gritty dive bar ... or a place that serves later in Coronado (last call was around midnight when we were there) Danny's is a great spot. You might feel a bit uncomfortable here as an outsider but don't be an asshole, tip the super attractive bartenders well and don't geek out and ask everyone to recount battle stories and you'll be fine. If you are here to pick up girls, go elsewhere because the ones that are in there are probably with guys who've had splinters tougher than you. I've heard this spot makes great burgers as well. Will have to come back and try one sometime because smash burgers are the best and the only place to get a good one on the East Coast is a Shake Shack. read more

The reasoning was that due to slow nights, they are closing early. One of my coworkers says this is the best burger in SD (he lives in Coronado) So i came here with high expectations. Its kind of a dive bar which is fine with me. Ordered the 1/2 pound slamburger with cheese. It was a pretty decent burger, kinda just a normal type of homemade burger, nothing out of the ordinary. But as someone who knows a thing or two about cooking i did notice a few things they did do right. - The burgers were made in house, free form, not preformed, frozen patties. - Not over handled or over mixed, which gave them a softer texture. - They are cooked on a flat top and a bowl placed over it to trap in the steam and juices. So they are also steaming at the same time too. (I had a view of the kitchen) The burger itself (meat part) kept falling apart, which was good and tender but made it difficult to eat. Im thinking its called the Slamburger cause they take the meat and slam it on the grill instead of forming it into a patty before hand. Whatever the reason, it was a good simple homemade burger done right, but not anything fancy or gourmet. So if you're a burger enthusiast and purist you might find this is what you're looking for.
