Sun Deck - Hotel del Coronado Review Beautiful view and a very iconic spot, but definitely very touristy. Expect big crowds if you go. We ordered two cheeseburgers at $32 each, and honestly, I was expecting something amazing for that price. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The meat was greasy and had a strange texture--it actually felt off in my mouth after just a few bites. I was really hungry and still couldn't finish it. For comparison, even In-N-Out tastes much better and is probably higher quality. When I asked the waitress, she seemed surprised to learn the meat might have been frozen. Overall, the food felt like overpriced junk. I wouldn't recommend eating here. Save your money and go somewhere else for food--but definitely come for the view and maybe just have a drink.

Last time I enjoyed quality fun time at the Sun Deck was years back when I had a boyfriend who loved sun bathing there beer in hand. I had not been often but last Friday they converted the place into 'Moon Deck's to welcome the Artemis back. So I had to be there at the splashdown ! It was great to have the special cocktail for the occasion with the little astronaut and the atmosphere was amazing and exciting. Everything was packed and some people had paid $175 to reserve the sofa in front of the TV broadcasting the event, although everyone was able to be there for free, no cover and not obligations which is appreciated. Dogs were welcomed and, as usual at this bar terrace with views, I love the electric crowd, kids included, the views, the food and service. All great.

The Hotel Del Coronado just south of San Diego has been a landmark in this area since 1888; and it's in amazing condition. With 80° weather (I left Chicago yesterday at 7°) this place has been a God Send for me not used to such severe winter weather. Meeting some friends here at The Del, the Sun Deck Restaurant hasn't changed a lick. Their menu is light, breezy and fun. I opted for their Sun Deck Bowl with herb quinoa, beluga lentil, romanesco, baby tomato, sweet potato, beets, yellow pepper, tarragon vinaigrette, ninja radish, pea tendril, olive oil, that was very good. Is it expensive here at The Del Coronado - Yes! But you're getting an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean, at its best, the cliffs of La Jolla to the north and the Tijuana promontory to the south; price is no object with these views. The service was excellent and this entire lunch was exceptional! Coming back to a place you visited as a child, a young adult, an adult and now a senior, gave me a cycle of life that one rarely gets. Thank you Hotel Del Coronado!

We shared a delicious wahoo fish sandwich. The fish was seasoned perfectly, and the fries were scrumptious! The pina colada was lovely as we watched the waves roll in from our table. The service was a bit slow, but the ambiance made up for it. Highly recommend.

I have been here before. Today I just came for a beer. Service was quick and I was able to seat right away. I'm sure it's due to the time of day. The bartender was cordial and made great recommendations on beer. The ambiance here is always lively. I was hoping for a lot more Holiday decore around this part of Hotel Del but they fell short. The views are always a plus and although the prices are a bit high, they are not horrible.

The location and view is stunning - absolutely a 5, Food is fairly mediocre and overpriced.- I'd rate it a 3, so 4 overall. I ordered the Wahoo fish sandwich ($30). The server gave it to me, I bit into it, and realized it was the burger ($32). When they came back out with the fish sandwich, I asked if I could swap, but they said no because I had already taken a bite. Oh well. Was not great, especially for $32, cheese tasted like fake American cheese, and the lettuce was shredded iceberg like you would get in a cafeteria. It also only came with ketchup and 1000 Island dressing, no mustard, had to ask for that. I was doing Dry February, so tried two of their mocktails - strawberry lemonade (too sweet), and the grapefruit Mojito, which I asked them to make with just a dash of simple syrup, not too sweet, and it was very good. Overall, it is a gorgeous location and view, and worth a stop to enjoy the view and beautiful San Diego.

My coworker and I were here for nursing conference. Having never been here, we wandered around and ended up stumbling onto the Sundeck. The seating area is located upstairs where you have a beautiful vantage point over the property and beach. Some tables merely have an umbrella. Others have nice soft cushions around table fire pits. I suppose I should have known that prices would be high here. The drinks clocked in for the price of a meal. And we ended up sharing two shrimp tostada tapas just to stave off our hunger. The shrimp was juicy was well cooked. The cojita added a nice contrasting saltiness. The bean paste, corn puree, and tomato relish added some nice zestiness to the dish without making it soggy. Our server was very attentive until it was time for the tab. Then she was nowhere to be found. But overall it was a good dining experience with a wonderful view, although overpriced for what it was.

Surprisingly good food and fast service! We stopped by because we were hungry and happened to be in the area -- and I'm so glad we did. As soon as we sat down, someone came right over with menus and let us know our server would be with us shortly. Enter Chris, our awesome server! I asked for a sweet drink recommendation, and he suggested the Hotel Del Colada -- their take on a piña colada. It was spot-on: sweet but not too sweet, creamy, and super refreshing. My boyfriend went with the "Some Like It Blond" beer, which he said was just okay. For food, we shared the San Diego Fish Sandwich, and wow -- it was a great choice! Big enough to share, perfectly crispy, and paired with hot, golden fries that hit the spot. The views here make it even better -- ocean on one side and the iconic Hotel del Coronado on the other. Perfect spot to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy some good food with a view.

I had lunch with my family here while our room was being readied and I have to admit it was good ( expensive just because it's resort dining and the view) and satisfying! We had the Del burger double cheese and fries and my wife had the shrimp tostadas while my mother in law got the fish sandwich. The portions are pretty large and be sure to snag a table with an umbrella for shade - I was surprised there weren't that many shaded tables for a large resort ( same for the pool area) but it was sufficient Pro tip the kids burger is cheaper with one less meat patty but enough for a kid up to 13 years old - anything to save you money ! The service was great the two times I ate there and everyone was nice and cordial - didn't have to wait that long - I added photos of the tacos from the taco shack as a bonus review and tbh I would skip it - for $12 you get a smallish taco just not worth it you will will be hungry! Love Hotel Del for so many things but for cheaper food definitely check out the local restaurants for better bargains

This is our go-to place to eat and drink when staying in Coronado. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere is always amazing with an awesome ocean view. We will return again and again.

Had fish tostada's, different, small & crunchy like a taco. Very pleasant man waited and the view of the ocean made the price bearable!

Man oh man how crowded it gets. The wait time for food was 45-60 min for lunch time. The bartenders were all happy but looked a bit overwhelmed. Servers were sparse. View was beautiful and the crowd was lively. It was nice to people watch on the beach, on the sun deck, and at the pool. I didn't love the Wahoo sandwich. I thought it was a bit dry and needed something. The shrimp and octopus Aguachile was good, though.

First time to Coronado , and stopped in this place . The hotel look was super awesome ! Loved the super colonial interiors and the overall look . It is very very expensive though. There was a bar inside but we decided to sit outside , bear the pool . The waiter was a bit slow but made sure he took care of us . They had flew varieties of beer and IPAs . Got hazy ipa and it was good . It was very expensive though .had to spend 14$ for an ipa and we spent about 50$ for 3 of us , one drink each ! Absolutely expensive : the overall ambience was ok though. Nice view of beach and pool . 3 stars

Unfortunately, our most recent visit was one of the strangest and most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We brought a guest visiting from out of town and were honestly embarrassed by how poor the experience was from start to finish. The restaurant was only about one quarter full on a weekday evening, yet service was shockingly slow and disorganized. It started with our server fumbling through reservation lists trying to find our name, then acting annoyed when we ordered specific cocktails. At one point, he even asked if we were "old enough to drink," which came off as rude and bizarre. The first round of drinks took around 20 minutes and arrived poorly made. We then waited another 40 minutes just to place entree orders, despite barely seeing our server after appetizers arrived. Ordering a second round somehow went even worse. The server rolled his eyes, made annoyed noises, and acted inconvenienced that we were ordering more drinks at a restaurant charging premium prices. One drink, a dirty martini, took about 30 minutes and arrived with a greasy film on top from bleu cheese olives sitting in it far too long. We asked for a manager, who apologized but then asked whether we wanted sweet or dry vermouth in a dirty martini, which did not inspire much confidence. The remake came back not dirty at all and had to be remade again. After nearly two hours, our entrees finally arrived. The plates were dropped on the table without a word. The chicken and fish were passable, but the sides were awful. Cold, lifeless, and completely forgettable. The broccolini was especially bad. We complained again, and the manager offered to comp the bill. Even then, it took another long wait just to close out. I eventually handed the server $100 cash because we simply wanted to leave and still tip something despite the experience. He then shoved the check open in my face and said, "There's your bill." What made this so disappointing is that we used to love this place. It was somewhere we proudly brought visitors. Instead, we left apologizing to our guest for how uncomfortable and confusing the entire night was. We do not care about free food or comps. We care about receiving a decent dining experience at a restaurant charging $30 cocktails and premium entree prices. Serea has declined dramatically, and management needs to take a hard look at both service standards and overall execution. Do better.

In my opinion, the true measure of a business is how it handles things when something goes wrong, and this restaurant handled the situation exactly the way a quality establishment should. Here's what happened: I stopped in briefly to use the restroom and grab one of the spritzers they make here. First off, the spritzer is absolutely delicious -- light, refreshing, and something I highly recommend if you visit. Unfortunately, my interaction with the host was less than stellar. I asked about ordering the spritzer and was told two things: 1. He didn't think they made it. 2. He "didn't have time." That response honestly caught me off guard. A paying customer walks in asking to purchase a product your restaurant does in fact make, and the answer is that you don't have time? Serving guests is literally the core function of hospitality. Thankfully, one of the waitresses, Rachel, who had helped me during a previous visit completely turned the experience around. I asked her for the drink and without hesitation she smiled and said, "Right away!" Within moments she returned with the spritzer in hand. Professional, courteous, and exactly the kind of service that keeps people coming back. I explained the interaction to her and she looked genuinely puzzled. I later mentioned it to the manager, whom I've met before and always found to be approachable, professional, and kind. He was clearly appalled by what happened and handled the situation with sincerity and care. That's exactly why this place continues to earn high marks from me. Problems can happen anywhere. What matters is whether management and experienced staff know how to recover -- and they absolutely did. The seasoned staff and management here understand hospitality. Based on this interaction alone, I honestly think the host may simply be better suited for a non-customer-facing role.

For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. It's served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans and tortillas. It was very tasty! We ended up trying frozen margarita and an agua fresca as well. The frozen margarita is so refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake and it was the perfect ending to our dinner.

The vibe of the restaurant was pretty dope. They have an outdoor seating area blended with indoor seating. The decor was stunning. I loved the wallpaper and light fixtures. The tunes were bumpin'. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.
