This place is a little hidden gem. I have no idea how they fit so many cars on that lot. I was on a mission to buy a 4 wheel drive truck, and had run into issues at several other places (cars weren't actually there, or weren't ready to buy). I found a great truck, nice and clean, my dad's a mechanic and there weren't any glaring issues with it. I noticed below that someone mentioned that they were auction trucks, which didn't bother me. I've had the experience that I've traded in cars that would go to auction and end up in other places, it's not uncommon. Dealers don't want to get stuck with cars that don't fit their market, etc. ANYWAY, my car buying day was pretty stressful by the time I ended up at Sunset, but these guys were incredibly helpful, kind, and accommodating. I was able to test drive the truck without any issues. Drove the truck all the way to Montana and had no problems, hopefully I'll get another 100,000 miles out of it! BUYER BEWARE! Do not trust this business and always get a Pre-Purchase inspection (PPI) before you buy from anyone. Take the car to an independent repair shop who will charge $75-125 to do an inspection. Do not rely on Carfax--Only insurance reported accidents are on there. If people fix it themselves and not reported, you won't see it on Carfax. PPI is well worth it! It saved me tens of thousands of dollars and a lot of headache. They will look you in the eyes and try scam you. I don't know how people like this sleep at night knowing they rip people off their hard earned money. Stay away from this place. I bought a car from them that I like. I had multiple appointments with the salesman and he was late for every one of them. He told me the auction had the extra key and for a fee of $100 they can overnight them. Bullshit. I know they have the key, and are trying to get an extra $100 out of you. What auction place doesn't give you all the keys. He called me a week after I bought the car and said if I wanted the extra key I had to pay the $100, I asked if I can have the number of the auction place. He told me no, I said if there was any other option than overnight, he said no that's all they do. He also told me I needed to pick up my registration, WTF!! This place is shady, best to just away. We had a great experience here although we didn't end up buying a vehicle from them. Very professional and friendly staff but they are also very straight up about not bargaining - our salesman rattled off their final price policy as well as warning about the full purchase cost (to include tax and registration) in a way that may feel a bit heavy handed to some although I like just getting to the point myself. They were very accomodating to our request to have a mechanic come to check the car and allowing us to test drive it. We did feel we would have been in good hands if the car had turned out to be what we wanted. read more

Wow. This place REEKS of scam. Went there to look at a Mazdaspeed3. Seemed acceptable, so I asked to take it for a test drive. The salesman asked me "if the test drive goes well, will you commit to buying today, or are you looking at others?" When I told him I had other Mazdaspeed3s to look at before making a decision, I was told they weren't comfortable with me test driving the car. They realized I wouldn't buy without comparison shopping and wouldn't be bullied into buying a car that day, so they told me I can't test drive the car. My husband and I recently went to this dealership to view an 07 Chevrolet Classic. Upon our arrival, we were kindly greeted and given the CarFax straight away. Everything was straight to the point and all aspects and history of the vehicle were shared with us. Only serious buyers are given a chance to test drive, simply because the vehicles held at this lot are kept at low mileage. We were given a great deal for a truck that only had 17,000miles and one owner. Their vehicles are well maintained and given thorough inspection. To note, some vehicles have parts removed before sale because of possible theft. They were very understanding when we came back after our purchase when we noticed our windshield wipers were almost gone. They simply replaced it with no issues and no additional out-of-pocket fees. I have had the best experience at the Sunset Car Company Dealership. Unlike other dealers I've been to that are rude or are about getting the most money from you, they care and like to build relationships with their customers and like to sell their vehicles to those who would treat them well. I was in the market for an economical car within my budget and my search took me to Sunset Car Company. I found a 2012 Honda Civic Coupe. Everyone was welcoming, helpful & straight forward, from my first contact with Maria to meeting the owner Ray and then working out all the details of the sale, trade in & financing with German. Even Marshal, the handsome canine, greeted me with a wagging tail. As a senior citizen, I was a bit apprehensive that I would be taken advantage of & 'talked into' something I'd later regret, nothing could be further from that fact. German was respectful and very helpful and worked with me until we came to an agreement I felt comfortable with. They took in my old Nissan and for its condition, gave me a very decent trade-in credit. He even made arrangements for the Civic to be checked out by a third party mechanic I chose. Ali is extremely rude. He got very angry and abusive when asked specific questions about a vehicle. There's only one reason to do that: because you don't want there to be any record of the answers you give. Other dealers were happy to describe the vehicles they had for sale in detail, which saved me a lot of trouble because I was looking for a specific type of vehicle, and they were all over So Cal, and to visit every one would clearly have been impossible. Those other dealers were clearly PROUD of what they had to offer, in contrast to Ali. Ali inadvertently did me a favor, though: I realized immediately that the smart move was to avoid him like the plague. Extremely unprofessional and out of the ordinary introduction that completely ruined my day and eagerness to purchase the exact car I have always wanted. Strangely, I was checking out a car they had in there inventory online and was given a call back from a female employee who sounded very confident and excited to help me out. So I made an appointment to come Look at the car with almost 99% intent of purchasing the vehicle and as soon as I show up a young Hispanic gentleman walks outside as I stepped out of my friends car and he approach's me after I had already taken a glance at the vehicle up close from the outside and the first thing he does after his verbal introduction is hands me the keys. Mind you, the car I am trying to purchase is a used 6 speed manual 2012 Volkswagen GTI with a few aftermarket parts installed and the pictures online clearly show in detail from multiple angles every single part of the cars interior and exterior. So when he handed me the keys I immediately assumed it was to take it for a little test drive with every intention of only making sure that the car I was literally about to purchase with cash in hand was in good shape and that the steering, engine, clutch, etc. were all in good working condition. So as I pull it out of the parking spot and proceed to drive it towards the entrance he walks up to me and I asked if there was a problem and I said I'm sorry was I not supposed to test drive it and he was supposedly shockEd that I had even moved the car and then told me that he's never heard of a dealership that allows such a thing without doing any paperwork first and also proceeded to insult me by telling me I didn't even know how to drive stick and that I was lucky that I wasn't going to be arrested for driving it without his spoken permission and that "THEY" were no longer willing to sell me the car when he literally just allowed everyone of those things and not to mention didn't even bother presenting the car to me or speaking to me about it at all whatsoever and on top of it all said that he didn't even know my name and yet the first few words we exchanged before he handed me the keys to "check it out" were Hi my name is .... etc. instead of showing me the vehicle himself and making some sort of presentation on it and or getting inside the car with me to make sure I was aware that I wasn't yet given permission to test drive it. I completely understood his concern but then once I apologized for being insulted and then attempted to as politely as possible start the whole introduction over and pedal backwards in the whole conversation after he had his boss come out just to drive the car back to its original parking space. He also kept repetitively saying that he didn't know if he was even going to be willing to sell the car anymore until I mentioned the fact that I had cash in hand. Then also told me that with my credit score being sort of low and with their specific companies advertised policy about them being able to finance cars to people with all types of credit and may even be able to provide them with an auto loan to help them purchase one, that they weren't going to be able to finance the car unless I had a much higher than advertised specific amount for the down payment and I had purposely thought about not even going down there if they weren't going to be willing to sell that exact car for the exact advertised amount at that exact price because of my one and only very unfortunate and very temporary dilemma of my credit score not being as high as it usually is because of a minor issue with a stolen credit card that was used fraudulently in my name that I am still in the process of disputing. Point being that I was very excited and have waited a very long time to find this exact car the exact way I have always dreamed of owning it and when I finally went to go look at it whilst being very hesitant to blow the little cash I have in hand just to be able to finance it but at the same time also extremely eager to finally have my dream car In my possession, I was given the worst possible presentation and introduction and basically am now having to consider giving this company my business. Such an extremely unfortunate and very displeasing experience for me and nothing like the one I hoped to have with this mediocre family owned used car dealership on Harbor Blvd in Santa Ana, CA and especially after I sat around nervous about what and how I was going to word everything when discussing the price and ability to finance. read more
