The Gulf was is so beautiful at this time of the day , the breeze felt soft against our skin, and the fine white sand stretched endlessly beneath our feet. My mother is in her 80s now, and as we walked slowly together along the shoreline, I found myself thinking quietly... how many more days... months... or years do I have left with her? Life is so precious. Time moves faster than we all realize. Being able to spend quality time with my mother is a rare and precious gift.. moments like this at the beautiful ocean with the sound of the waves crashing along the shoreline... the warmth of the sunset wrapping us with tactile and visible heat .. At this moment in time I cherish every single moment I have with her. Nothing is forever

It was the perfect mix of people .. also .. not TOO many people either .. very populated but not crowded and having easy access to a food place , a bar and restrooms ( Caddy's ) is a very nice feature. Also.. it's very easy to haul all your stuff onto the sand unlike many beaches which have very difficult access.

Nature won't let you down. But the actual island is slowly going down hill. The famous white sand beach is still there, but is suffering a little from erosion and now has areas of scrub as well. Recently extra sand was imported in, but 2 back to back hurricanes have spread that new sand everywhere but on the beach. Beware of the parking situation. It's funny that you can park in downtown St Petersburg or at Tampa Airport for less money than on Treasure Island. Unless you are staying at a motel or hotel on the beach that gives you a parking space along with your room expect to pay at least $6 an hour for parking on the beach. Stick to city owned parking lots. The privately owned lots are true tourist traps. At Pirate Square strip mall I paid online and still received a $63 parking ticket! There is no way to contact the company to complain and if you pay within a few days they reduce it to $43 to encourage people to not fight the ticket. Fortunately this lot has been torn down but the damage has been done and other private lots are following suit. Every year the Sand Sculpture competition in November and the Kite Festival in January bring back the festival crowds I remember from decades ago. In between times there is just an overpriced resort town as high end luxury hotels and corporate owned tourist trap store chains slowly replace the quaint little motels and local owned shops that gave the area its unique flavor. You can still find some of the Treasure Island spirit but you have to look hard.

Looking on the map, I see it's called Sunshine Beach and I would have not known that otherwise. It's in Treasure Island. I actually came from Sunset Beach so Sunset beach to Sunshine Beach! There's no amenities here. It's straight up beach. If you have a lot of beach stuff, better bring a wagon or a lot of people to carry it. It's a bit of a hike. When you get to the beach, you will forget. Just enjoy the view and let the beach take you away!

Sunshine Beach is located on the northern end of Treaure Island, North of Treasure Island Beach…read moremid-island, North of Sunset Beach on the southern end of Treaure Island, South of John's Pass, and South of Madeira Beach. Sunshine Beach is more residential than commercial, and home to everything from quaint beach cottages to Key West-styled three-story homes, although there are some of the smaller motels from the 50's and 60's in these neighborhoods. Here you will find dunes of sea oats lining the beach with walkovers providing access. Sunshine Beach does not have 1 big beach access parking lot but a bunch of small ones, which makes finding parking a bit more of a tedious task. The biggest parking lot is off Kingfish Drive with 28 spaces by Crabby's on the Pass, formerly JP Gators on the Pass. Crabby's on the Pass has bathrooms but no showers. The Kingfish Drive lot is across the street from Sunshine Beach but there is a walkway under John's Pass Bridge that you can take along John's Pass and the rocky jetty. There's a little fishing pier on the north end of the beach and lots of people fish on the pier or on the John's Pass side. Smaller Beach Park lots do not have bathrooms or showers and include the Ibis Lot off 121st Avenue & Gulf Boulevard with 19 spaces, Off 124th Avenue street parking with 17 spaces, at the White Egret Lot off 126th Avenue with 12 spaces, off 127th Ave end-street with 6 spaces. If you're at the 121st Ave parking lot, Sunset Vista Beachfront rentals next door has bathrooms, a shower, and a beach bar but I'm not sure if they welcome visitors. I assume anyone that is a customer willing to buy a drink can use the showers or bathrooms. Sunshine beach goes on for about 7 blocks, starting just south of the John's Pass Bridge. The north end of the island features a concrete walkway dotted with benches along the rocky pass, leading to a jetty in the Gulf of Mexico. A few Australian Pines make for a shady stroll along the walkway, which is a prime spot for watching boats go to and fro through John's Pass. The sand is softer and deeper here, but the expanse is much narrower, making it easier to schlep your gear out to the water. It's a much less populated stretch of beach, more residential than commercial, so you'll see more couples and retirees than families with small children or teenagers. Difficulty of parking, absence of showers, and absence or bathrooms unless you park near a business makes this beach lose stars, but otherwise it's a nice peaceful beach with tons of boats passing by to see.

All of the Gulf views and nice sand as the rest of the Pinellas County beaches, without the crowds of St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach, with some parking difficulties but still easier/cheaper than the former and definitely more plentiful than Indian Rocks Beach. Parking has expanded, too- you can now park across the street in the lot adjacent to the CVS and a bit down the road at the now-closed pub. If you don't want to deal with the machines, they're on the WayToPark app. This is the northernmost main access point to Madeira Beach, and tends to have fewer tourists because it's not close to any big hotels. It has a snack bar and gift shop, which is handy if you get hungry or forget something or want a break for some shade. There's sometimes live music, which is nice while you're on the patio but does detract from the beach experience a bit unless you walk a ways. You can rent a chair/umbrella or you can walk a bit past the rentals and sit for free. All that really is extra though-- it's a pretty beach with nice sand and great views, what else do you need?

We came on a saturday and it got pretty crowded but I didn't feel like it was too much, it didn't feel like there were way too many people. We also may have come during jellyfish season? Because they were literally everywhere in the water so I steered clear. I don't know if they sting or not but just something to be aware of I guess, and that's just kind of a thing at a lot of beaches but this seemed more than usual. A lot of people were also smoking in this beach which was really disappointing to me, because there were tons of families with young children around and I just feel like the beach is supposed to be a safe, clean space away from things like cigarettes but I don't know. Something that is nice, though, is you can rent an umbrella and chairs for $25 for entire day, they close at 7pm. I think it's either 10 or $15 for just the chairs. The concession and gift shop part is just awesome. There's live music every saturday and the lady who sings is incredibly talented and a great entertainer. They have so many different food options I was not expecting, and the food was actually decent. Parking is not free but I don't think it's over expensive. Great area!

Most parks are wide open sunny spaces. Abercrombie Park has lots of trees, but also has smooth…read moregrassy lawns shaded by those trees. No undergrowth at all. Plenty of parking in a shaded lot so your car isn't sweltering when you're ready to leave. Fantastic place for a picnic.
