I had the brisket and pulled pork. My wife had the haddock and crab cakes. First off, the wait staff was very nice and helpful. Now for the food. My brisket and pulled pork was very good. The sauces made them even better. 2 thumbs up there. However, my wife was very disappointed. She was looking for an authentic New England seafood dish and was left wanting. Nothing was seasoned at all (not even the mashed potatoes). She was quite disappointed with her dinner, but on the other hand I very much enjoyed mine. Found this treasure after leaving Franconia notch heading toward Manchester. Driving down highway 3 looking for lunch. We sat outside in the October sun eating on a picnic table. This was some of the best bbq we ever had, highly recommend the "smack yo lips" bbq sauce. The staff was warm and friendly and the ribs with all the fixings were phenomenal! read more

My girlfriend and I were up north for the weekend, and figured we would give this place a try because we were craving BBQ. The overall atmosphere was great. It was St. Patty's day so everyone in the cafe were in high spirits and friendly. We even got some free merchandise which was cool. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. I ordered a Sam Adams cold snap, which was unfortunately flat, so I switched it out for a Budweiser instead which was fine. The main thing we came in for was the BBQ. We ordered the grand slam which is a sampler type dish for two. We even anticipated liking it so much that we ordered ANOTHER one to go so we could have left overs for the night. Unfortunately the best word I could use to describe our meal was "underwhelming". The meats had little taste, and were on the dryer side. The BBQ sauce provided was very good, and we doused our food in it to make it bearable. We quickly regretted ordering the second helping for leftovers. Later on in the night when we went to eat our food, we realized that we weren't given any ribs, or chicken. Very disappointing. read more

Upon arriving we were met very courteously and shown to our table. Angela was very good, then the trouble began, we ordered chicken tenders for the children and cheese burger for them. The adults got potato skins, Overstuffed Mushrooms, Nachos. All of which were cold and uncooked. The rodeo Burger which was to be cooked medium came raw and warm, The kielbasa Grinder came still cold, My Daughters Philly Cheese Steak was dry and had an aroma to it that was unappetizing, My Sons Turkey Club was dry and a sour taste to it. Came in for brunch on our way down 93 to Manchester. Easy access from the highway. We sat in the bar for Sunday brunch. The bloody Mary's were delicious and full of vege (it makes an impressive presentation). They have a nice Benedict selection, though i opted for the huevos rancheros. There was absolutely no flavor in the foods we received. My Bloody Mary and my friend's steak and mashed potatoes had zero flavor. Salt and pepper couldn't help. Had a lovely evening sitting on their newly renovated patio. Sunset Grill has THE BEST BBQ in NH - you have to try their house smoked meats and homemade barbecue sauce. The restaurant had new owners as of January 2017 and they have completely cleaned up the restaurant. They've done a great job and we enjoyed everything -- from the appetizers to the dessert. We even came back for lunch the next day -- don't miss the reuben! Love their outdoor dining space - plenty of room for large groups to enjoy a meal together! We'll be back for sure. read more

I'm slightly ambivalent about the Sunset Grill. We've past it many times while traveling through this part of NH looking for food or coffee and have never stopped. Today, after a 3 day excursion in the White Mountains, we decided to try it out. The atmosphere is relaxed and everyone seems to know everyone else. DO NOT order lemonade from this place. We ordered three non-alcoholic lemonades. They charged us $6.50 for EACH one! After receiving the bill I asked what was the deal with the high price? Our waitress said it's because they "freshly squeeze" the lemons. Really? Are the lemons made of gold? And to top it off our glasses were filled with ice! Major rip off. I can't believe they even have the nerve to do this. Our waitress was nice but she was the only one serving so she was running around. We had to grab utensils from a table inside. The food was ok. Nothing to write home about. The homemade chips were average at best. Usually I try to give the benefit of the doubt but the cost of four glasses of lemonade equalled almost half the bill. My husband went to Sunset Grill when he was a kid and when we were in NH and in the area he suggested we stop in for brunch. We pull in the parking lot and I run to the door to make sure they were open - we were the only car in the parking lot. They were open. We were the only people in there...oh well, we were committed! After asked for 2 different drink items (one was iced coffee) and the waitress said they were out, I got a little more nervous. Was this place still in business? Well, I ordered a bloody mary and a friend got a hot cocoa with baileys... my bloody mary was phenomenal, enough spice, flavor and not too overpowering and Lindsay's cocoa arrived with FRESH whipped cream. Perhaps we were wrong with this place... All four of us ordered big breakfasts and we were pleasantly surprised! Super fresh, flavorful food and served perfectly cooked. Don't confuse this place with the Sunset ROOM which is at Owl's Nest Golf Course a couple miles away and is a high end restaurant. This place is a nice, cozy, friendly, neighborhood place with good (not great) food at reasonable prices. We've lived in the area for thirty years and eaten here a dozen times and although nothing was awful, nothing was exceptional either. Go for it if you want good food at good prices in a nice setting. Oh, and although this is the Sunset Grill, it doesn't really have a great view of the sunset. The Sunset Room at Owls Nest will knock your socks off. read more

Clam chowder was meatier than most places in the area with lots of bacon and clam meat. We stopped for lunch on our way to Maine. Sat outside, our waitress didn't seem to love her job all that much, but she was pleasant enough. My husband's chicken sandwich looked good and was cooked perfectly. My Greek salad was fine...feta cheese was flavorless (how does that happen?) and the tomatoes were hot house, so I didn't eat them. Disappointing. Came there with the fam in a venture north. The food just wasn't very good, specifically: - Spicy wings were so minimally hot as to wonder whether we got the wrong wings (we didn't) - Clam chowder was described to me as "bland/canned" - burger was accurately cooked but tasted lousy. - Ribs were just okay but a bit dry/undersauced But, okay, that alone wouldn't really necessitate a very bad review bc other people may love the food here but what really put the experience in the bad category was the following: - when ordering the burger we asked if it came with fries. We were told yes. When it came out there were potato chips. I asked the waitress "I thought these came with fries?" And she looked at my plate and said "I guess not". I looked at her quizzically and she said "I got confused because this other tables burger came with fries". Oooookay, if you're confused, imagine how confused we are. I was told I could order a side of fries (obviously) but passed. - there are sauces! Four of 'em! And you know what, they're not half bad! BUT NO ONE TOLD US THAT! Holy cow maybe that woulda made the pulled pork sandwich and the rodeo burger (which was very lightly drizzled with BBQ sauce) and the ribs so much better! We were going to a different restaurant but they had a power outage and a member of our group remembered a place near by that his family visited when he was a kid....thus we ended up at this place. Clearly we should have done a u-turn when two wait staff ignored us, huffed, then finally one of them grabbed some menus and walked out of sight. When she returned she asked if we had changed our mind about eating and we're just going to the bar. Apparently not one of the six people in our group heard her greet us nor ask us to follow her to a table. Lastly, we never, not even once saw anyone that worked there smile. Might be the reason they have a help wanted sign greeting the customers upon their arrival. A warning to not have high expectations? Anyway, my husband's Cajun catfish was outstanding. Neither of us cared for our soup. I had corn chowder sprinkled with imitation bacon that gave it a funky favor. I had fabulous pot stickers although a bit small. Food was ok.. Wait is terrible.. We waited for our soup for 20 min.. then nicely asked if our food could come out quicker.. we ended up waiting 40 min for our meals. Our meal chicken ziti brocolli had no brocolli. We ordered "world famous" onion rings, never got them. Waitress didnt really care. I would avoid this place. But, one star for watching a guy get pulled over while we waited for our soup and get arrested for an OUI was entertaining! read more
