Great location! I bet the sunsets are amazing at this place. Little disappointed in the food.. however the waitress totally made up for it. She was great! Super nice. The fish and chips was ok.. flounder is amazing however you cook it, accept when it's over done. It was way over cooked in the fryer. I also ordered the conch fritters.. it ended up being 5 balls of over fried mush :( super disappointed in that. The breading was actually dark brown it was so over done. Over all, between the service and the food we probably won't be back unless there was no other place to stop.. sorry. read more

We have been going to Corolla NC for many years and have been to many delicious restaurant's until the Sunset Grille. My husband and I wanted to take our family to a great restaurant but the Sunset Grille isn't even close to great. We arrived around 6pm and were seated immediately in the downstairs room. First impression was the table was dirty and we were seated near the noisy and dirty air conditioner. Our server was very nice and obviously rushed. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks came and both the cosmo and margarita had odd tastes. Then appetizers came and the amount we ordered was not correct. we finished them before the extra order came. We ordered our entrees, Sea bass (both fish and couscous were very salty), coconut shrimp ( 3 of us tasted it and it was so bad we had to send it back and the server didn't take it off the check until I called it to his attention), prime rib ( was ok), ribs (my grandson loved them), chicken fingers ( came with only 2 small chicken fingers and fries, my granddaughter asked for applesauce so they charged charged for a side of fries instead of applesauce), short rib ravioli (in a bowl covered with so much white sauce that you couldn't see the ravioli and stuck in the middle was a slab of shot rib, not the most appetizing presentation), pork Carolina was good, award winning clam chowder (was decent but not award winning), Caesar salad was fine. We opted not to get desert not wanting to be disappointed. The experience was not what we expected considering the prices were more like fine dining prices than mediocre food and service. The food was okay at best, if it was super cheap I wouldn't really mind, but the entrees were around $23 each. A lot of it tasted like it had been defrosted. People were all nice though. My family and I visited this restaurant on our vacation to Duck NC. This restaurant has great views of the sound. Now for the bad. 2 out of 4 meals were good. The two meals that weren't good were the lump crabmeat crab cakes that are not so lumpy with actual crab meat they were mostly filler] ,and The prime rib that wAs at least 35% hunk of fat. Service was just ok nothing special. The server was disinterested in actually being a waitress and it showed. My wife had some questions about the menu and the waitress sounded like an auctioneer she was talking so fast you could barely understand her, it was actually funny to a point. We finally got seated, our drinks were not good and the food was not either. Could not have gotten out of there fast enough. The sunset view is top notch while every other aspect leaves much to be desired. When we added our names to the waitlist we were told it was a 2/2.5 hour wait. No problem we expected that so we went to the bar to wait. The bar was severely understaffed but we received our drinks in a decent amount of time. Suddenly we got a text that our table was ready...7 minutes after putting our name in. When we were seated we ordered another round of drinks. I'd ordered a virgin pina colada (pregnant) at the bar and decided I wanted a Miami vice while my husband ordered a beer. I was shocked when my drink arrived to the table and was their giant version of the drink for 2-3 people for $30. I was clearly pregnant and drinking it alone so I wish the waitress had double checked that I wanted that instead of just a small drink like the pina colada I was drinking at the table. The service was a train wreck and I honestly felt bad for our waitress Carlee. She was running around - like literally running- trying to wait on 6 tables that had all been sat at the same time. The other staff was standing around useless just watching her. At one point someones food got lost at the table behind us and our waitress was visibly upset after being yelled at. The bar was backed up so everyone's drinks were late. The food was ok, the bacon wrapped scallops were good and so was the coconut shrimp. The crab cakes were just ok. Our waitress apologized and thanked us for being patient. I felt like she was set up to fail so I don't blame her for the service but the management of the restaurant needs to do a better job. read more

She Crab soup was absolutely amazing! One of the best I've tasted. The bartenders on the patio were not great, no personality no knowledge of the menu, a lady next to me had to ask for a water 3 times and then he rudely said give me a minute..... fun place, cool boardwalk patio but the bartenders need help. read more

So disappointed this year we always come here for the sunset food and drinks!! Talked so highly to my family about it and took them all there. Three stars cause the service was excellent other than that not good!! The food was mediocre and the atmosphere was beautiful but I will say don't sit inside or at the outside bar. This is a beautiful location. Very sad that management has not invested more in quality staff. The evening we went they were slow. It took over 30 minutes to get a server to greet us. When our drinks came, my martini was hot (had not been chilled with ice) - when I mentioned it to the server, she reported it to the bar. The response was that the manager had told the bartender to make it without ice, which is actually kind of funny that the untrained bartender took the instructions literally. I wish I could leave a zero star review. First of all, I was appalled at the presentation of the lobster fries. Nothing about this dish looked even remotely appetizing. Soggy fries, cold and slightly hard lobster that was not fresh at all. The ribs were quite a sight to see - very large portion size- but this one positive aspect of the ribs was not at all made up for by the taste. I could go on and on about issues that we had specifically with the food, but that was not the worst part of my dining experience here. Our waiter was an angel and she was very kind dealing with a large table of 10 people, however the manager was a different story. When we asked if the lobster fries could be removed from the check, he became very passive aggressive. This was quite off putting as this did not seem in any way an outlandish request. We succeeded in getting this dish, THAT WE BARELY EVEN TOUCHED, removed from the check but only after serious persistence. To say the least, I should have listened to the terrible reviews that this place ALREADY had. Bad service can leave an even worst taste in your mouth than terrible food can. read more

Wow! Sunset alone is worth the wait. No need to comment on the beauty of an unobstructed sunset, that goes without saying. I'm happy we got to experience it here, with such excellent service and quality food. Had a party of 10 and expected wait time was 90 minutes. Music playing outside was 90s pop and weather was perfect so the wait time went fast and was only 60 minutes. Service was very friendly, super prompt and server Gianna was knowledgeable and super attentive. Brussels Sprouts app, cheese curds (delicious but need a need a new name) and chimichurri fries were so flavorful. Apps were definitely the stars. Main courses were solid, crab cakes were substantial, coconut shrimp were hearty, salads were fresh. Tuna was totally over cooked but that was by far the weakest dish. Kids went nuts over desserts, portions were very generous. Come here for group-friendly atmosphere, solid menu, great service and oh yeah, those sunsets. read more

My family and I came here while on our vacation, the view of the sunset was beautiful but that's about it. We waited almost 2 hours to even get our food order taken and it took over 30 to get drinks and appetizers (almost everyone just got water). When we finally did get our appetizers the waiter dropped half the chips on the ground and it took so long to bring replacement chips we had already finished the appetizer. He never cleaned up the chips and other guests walking by our table were laughing and making remarks, they had to step on chips to walk by and we weren't even the ones who dropped them. We watched 2 different groups who got there AFTER us get their food before we even PLACED our food order, we ended up having to ask another waiter for our waiter because he never came over to take our order. Drinks were never topped off and when we asked for a replacement for a soda beverage because it tasted nasty it was never brought out. When the food FINALLY came out it was bland and mediocre. We did express to our waiter that we were disappointed with the service and there was no apology or sympathy AT ALL. I'm not sure if it was our waiter or we just came on a bad night but from my experience I would not recommend eating here also considering our bill racked up to $220 for bland food and horrible service, however I would go again maybe to just the bar JUST for the view. read more
