Very good food. Went there with some local friends for lunch. we had the salad with chicken and another salad with Blackened trigger fish. Also tacos with the trigger fish. I have no idea what trigger fish is, but it's white fish and was excellent. The waitress Danielle was great. We live one town over and came up to St. Augustine to surprise my dad for Veteran's Day. They were busy but got our party of 5 seated quickly. We wanted to sit upstairs and enjoy the view but it was closed off. Our waitress was pleasant but busy (short staffed like many places) so coffee did not stay refilled and we never received the bar drink that one in our party ordered. Our food was good and hot. My wife and I use Yelp reviews...a LOT...so, we took a chance on this place since it was walking distance from our hotel and good reviews...and the good reviews were definitely earned! I had Triggerfish for the 1st time in my life, blackened and with grilled/blackened shrimp, slaw and collards for sides. This turned out to be one of the best fresh fish dinners of my life! Everything was perfect! Too bad that my wife wasn't very hungry but she still enjoyed the fish bites appetizer. Then, Diane, our server, said we should try the chocolate/peanut butter pie... The server was also very good and accommodating. We ordered The grilled seafood combo, the shrimp platter, and the Sunset shrimp and scallops with tortellini. All the dishes were just okay. All lacked flavor and freshness. Very disappointing. The tortellini was very light and tasty, however, there was way too much of it. (The shrimp and the scallops got lost). Menu and dishes are in desperate need of an overhaul. Lastly, if the establishment requires patrons to wear a mask upon entry, I would expect that both the lead hostess (that is seating people) and the owner (who is going around talking to everyone) also wear a face covering! I went here all the time as a kid, as I lived just right down the road. Yesterday was my first visit back in about a decade, and they haven't skipped a beat. The restaurant was spotless, my server was so friendly, the food came out quick, but not suspiciously quick, and my Tito's and soda could've kick-started a DD15 in the dead of winter. The perfect spot for a little afternoon food and drink. I hope this place is still so good in another 10 years. read more

We went on a Friday night and there are no reservations so we expected a long wait. There are several different sections to choose and each has a different host to give your name to. We chose the one upstairs and it was only about 15 minutes. There were plenty of places to sit while waiting and you can also get a drink from the bar. The service was great and there were so many items to choose from. Prices were fair and food was excellent with enough to take home. The shrimp & scallop pasta was amazing. Stopped in for appetizer and drinks. Started with coconut shrimp and an old fashion, while eating we were looking through yelp and I saw a picture and asked the waitress about it. She said it's a very popular item so we figured we had to try it something we never had before so we ordered the cup size. OMG if we had of ordered this first we would have got the bowl the second time, this appetizer is out of this world delicious the French fries stay crispy for a while but even when they get soft they taste great. Every bite of potato was perfectly cooked lots of clams NO skimming here. The next time we return it will be to eat here no where else and we will start with the fries with chowder. Wow. I did not expect this place to be SLAMMING before 6pm on an early weeknight (Monday or Tuesday, I can't remember). We arrived, a party of 5 and they were already packed inside. They did offer us heated seating upstairs, which we accepted though it was quite windy and chilly (not their fault, of course). Our waitress was super fast. Like I just ordered a beer and it was in my hands mere minutes later. Thumbs up for that! 3 of use split a small bowl of the chowder fries. GOOD LORD, this was so delicious. I need to make this at home. In my photos you can see that we ordered: shrimp with pasta, philly sandwich, ribs and 2 Mexican rice bowls. We all really loved our food very much. The rice bowl was fantastic. That's the kind of thing that should be on more menus. I seriously wanted to steal a rib from my mother in law but that wouldn't have been polite, right? Our server, Sarah, was great! I had the Ahi Tuna App, and it was good. The soy ginger glaze was outstanding! My husband had the St. Auggie Fish Fry and rated it 4 out of 5. We were seated inside in the back, which was a little disappointing (we're tourists after all!), but that didn't affect the food. The spinach dip has a lively lilting crab flavor accompanied with a wonderful creaminess. These two are amazing for starters! For our main course, we ordered the ahi tuna tacos (2) we opted for rice & beans. && the1/2 dozen sunset oysters. The ahi tuna tacos tasted fresh and cool (Bc they're cooked to a rare perfection) with a wonderful ginger & wasabi accent. Omg. The rice & beans.. surprisingly really good too! The sunset oysters were yummy (if you don't actually like oysters) so they were cooked and covered in garlic, cream & cheese - nothing wrong with that in my opinion- but you can can get the same great flavor from the crab dip if you enjoy that. Now you want to talk about mouth watering food. This is the place. Each time we have been here they have not let us down. Hubby and I went there Saturday evening around 5pm. I ordered the shrimp, scallops with penne noodles in a cream sauce. All the different spices made my taste buds dance. The large succulent shrimps and scallops were cooked to perfection. Hubby ordered the blackened seafood platter. Nice size piece of fish, scallops and shrimps, with a side of black beans and rice. Of course we had to sample each other's food. I love coming here whenever we are near St. Augustine beach. The last time we were here we had the lobster mac and cheese and it was so delicious! This time we got the sunset salad with grilled shrimp and the shrimp was very delicious. They were all out of the sweet potato hummus which is supposed to come with the salad but it was still very good. We got some peanut butter pie and key lime pie for dessert which were both really good. The key lime pie was better if I had to choose but overall loved them both. I love how this restaurant is so close to the beach. It has such a nice beach vibe inside and the service is always so nice. Such a GREAT "I just spent a day at St. Augustine Beach and I'd love to have a cold one" kind of place! We had just spent the weekend on the other side of the state and wanted to stop for an early dinner prior to going home. In other words....we wanted to chill before heading to unpack. Sunset Grille was just the spot. We sat on the balcony where we could see the beach road and feel the breeze. (Try not to worry about your hair...enjoy the cool breeze, the view, the adult beverages and the food!) We began our meals with wine---I had a rose' and he enjoyed a Riesling. They definitely hit the spot. Both my husband and I enjoyed the blackened grouper sandwich with crispy French fries. The fish was so tasty, just the right amount of spice! It was moist and flakey and so large the pieces came over both sides of the bun. My husband finished off his meal with a fresh piece of Key Lime Pie---just like one might find in Key West. The views, the beachy vibe, the good service, the delicious food---all reasons we will become regulars! What a nice surprise to have our expectations exceeded at this casual beachside restaurant. Living in Florida, I have experienced more than my fair chair of misses with beachside spots... so we didn't really have high expectations coming in. The food however really changed our mind, and it immediately started with the cup of New England clam chowder soup. This is THE BEST I've ever had, even winning over some fine dining establishments. They don't hold back on the ingredients and it's heartiness is well balanced with the creamy texture of the soup. So so delish, a must try option for clam chowder lovers!! My entree was also a very nice win for me, Nina's Shrimp toast (think chicken and waffles with a seafood and fun twist)... a spectacular rice crispies French toast with tons (1/2 lb!) of fried shrimp, side of pickled veggies, and two sauces of choice 1) not so spicy honey syrup and 2) dátil ranch. Yummy! My husband's entree was Minorkin Dátil shrimp over penne pasta, and wow was it so flavorful! The spiciness is pretty mild, and blends perfectly with the tomato, bacon, scallion, garlic and white wine sauce. THIS entree was better than your typical casual beachside restaurant shrimp dinner! Now about the actual building and service; We went in December and it was still busy but not overly so. We were sat immediately, but our table service was pretty slow so we were a little put out about that, however can't say if it's like that normally, or they were short staffed. There is outdoor seating and balcony seating, which may be nice to catch the sea breeze. So the answer to the magic question is Yes!... I definitely would come back again. One of my all time favorite meals. On a trip from out of town ate here two nights in a row. My husband got fried shrimp both nights and said it was some of the best he had ever had. I had the Sunset Salad with trigger fish my first night and the Ultimate Seafood Salad the second night. Both came with key lime vinaigrette. While I had a hard time deciding, the ultimate seafood salad was the best of any salad I have ever had. Had lobster, shrimp and crawfish along with cranberries, fried caper, pickled onions and greens. Delicious! Britnie was our waitress the first night and Joanie our second night. This place is a must go. We came here twice during our 2nights stay in St. Augustine. I personally came back for a great key lime martini - just how I like it - smooth, not too sweet, not too vodka taste and not too strong to knock you down. We were seated on the second floor open area and we did enjoy it at the fullest with a nice sunset going on. If the night is a cold one, I highly recommend crab and artichoke bisque which will soothe your stomach a lot, but be aware it will also fill you up a lot. Coconut shrimp is a highly recommended as an appetizer also. Good crust, smooth coconut flavor without any grease on the shrimp. Macadamia Mahi-mahi is to die for. However, when we arrived, we were seated quickly in the bar area right next to a big open window, with a nice breeze. It was quite lovely. The food was really pretty good. Husband had the fish bites (mahi, grouper and snapper) and was pleased. Kid had the cheeseburger kids meal. It was way too big for her but she enjoyed half of it. I had the Sea BLT; a BLT with catfish. It was tasty! But the catfish filet is super huge! Like, a third of it would've been more than enough. But it was a good sandwich! Our hotel was right down the street so it was a convenient place to stop in. It's about as "beach front" as you can get in the area, not being truly ON the beach, just FYI.
