Thanks to Sunset Nursey I am a proud plant mom to triplet lithos plants, twin monstera deliciosas, an areca palm, and two snake plants. I love the fact that they have a selection of pots and offer to repot the plants while you are there. Be sure to arrive early the later you wait the longer the line will be and don't both coming after 3pm. Great selection of indoor and outdoor plants for reasonable prices. They carry all the necessities e.g. racks, moisture meters, fertilizer, decorative stands, etc. Be prepared to spend at least a hour looking around there's just so many plants and the staff is very knowledgeable. I love coming to the nursery. It has a large selection, but is fairly organized. They are also very honest, warning you not to buy something that might not be in season or suit your space at home - and suggesting things that would better suit your home. However much I wanna love this place due to their variety of plants and supplies and knowledgeable staff, I cant completely do so because I bought several plants in different occasions from them and so far they have only cause havoc cause they brought spider mites and thrips into my home of over 50 house plants. I have never had a problem before with the plants I get from my two favorite sellers. Was super excited to check out this place due to the variety but no, wont buy a plant from them again except supplies, maybe. Had to skill some of my plants cause of this and since May (3 months now) still battling the occasional infestations. I arrived 15 prior to their closing time (5pm, according to their website) and was turned away in the most awful way. We have always bought our landscaping supplies and plants here, but after the experience today I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. Wow. This place is plant and plant pot heaven! There are SO many plants here and they take really good care of them. I came here looking for three pots. One for my fake fig tree and two small ones for two new succulents I purchased elsewhere. I found exactly what I was looking for and for a great price. I found a medium sized white ceramic pot that was half off the sale price and ended up paying 15$ for a pot you'd pay at least 45-50 anywhere else. I also bought two small plant pots and ended up paying less than 30$ out the door. You really can't beat their prices. They have tons of pots in various colors and sizes and it would be hard not to find something you liked. Plant pots, stands, Moss. Everything you'd need to plant your new baby. I've been shopping here for years, and love the people here and their wide selection of plants and plant supplies. They have a wonderful selection of edible, native and decorative plants and Sally and Jamie are deeply knowledgeable about all aspects of plants and growing in So Cal. My only hesitation would be about milkweed. I've had two bad experiences... once the milkweed had been sprayed with pesticide at the growing nursery and all of the caterpillars I'd been raising in my home died, and just recently, the native milkweed had been super-charged with nitrogen fertilizer which can be harmful to caterpillars and interfere with their chrysalis making. Customers buy milkweed to support monarch caterpillars, so it should be grown only using organic processes -- or be labeled to warn that it is unsafe as food for caterpillars. But mostly I love Sunset Nursery and hope they remain in the neighborhood for decades to come! read more

This is where I found the rare Oxalis Triangularis (Purple Shamrock). It was Sunday afternoon when I phoned this nursery to see if they had the plant I had been searching high and low for. I had no luck at any of the Orange County nurseries that day so I started looking on Yelp in the LA area. I was determined to find it as you can tell. I came across someone's review of Sunset Nursery and just my luck that had a few in stock. It was meant to be! The associate that helped me on the phone knew exactly what I was talking about and said he would set a few aside for me when I got there. I'm so mad at myself right now for not remembering his name, because he deserves a shout out. He was super nice for doing that because he really didn't have to considering this is a highly sought after plant. It was 4pm when I called and they closed at 5pm! I got there in record time (safely of course) with 20 minutes to spare. I walked around and checked out the nursery, but it was very busy! I asked for *insert name here* and he pulled the few Oxalis Triangularis plants he had on hold for me. I picked the best one and checked out. I am beyond happy that I was able to find it here and they didn't charge me an arm and a leg for such a unique plant. I had been looking for this since last year and I can finally cross it off my wish list :) They have recycling boxes you can use to carry your purchases and if you bring it back, you get a % of your next purchase which is pretty awesome! I can always support a small business that promotes recycling because it is always better for the environment! It's pretty far from where I live, but if I'm ever in the area I'll definitely stop by again. If you are looking to check out a dope nursery, Sunset is where it's at. They have a wide variety of plants, flowers, succulents, pots, stands, outdoor garden decor and other gardening supplies. It's centrally located to a lot of small shops and restaurants too. The only gripe is probably the parking situation because on busy days like the weekends it's nearly impossible. read more

Excellent service! I'm a LA native and I'm surprised that I haven't visited this nursery much sooner! They carry organic soil which is difficult to find and most online retailers don't deliver. As soon as I walked in, Martin was my immediate concierge! Haha he was very knowledgeable in answering ALL of my questions and assisted with my decision making. He was a such a sweetheart. I appreciated his attentiveness. You can tell he enjoys his duty of service. After my purchase, Martin carried all my new plant babies back to the car. This place was recommended by a coworker. I had previously ordered plants online but wanted to give a local business a try. The experience was wonderful. The staff is very friendly. knowledgeable and helpful. I spent more than I originally planned to , but I had seen so many beautiful and healthy looking plants that it was easy go go over my budget. You can bring your plants in to be re-potted. I purchased 3 potted plants, 1 air plant, a small piece of driftwood. 2 watering bulbs, a water indicator and some houseplant sticky stakes for insects. If you are obsessed with plants and gardening, this nursery will woo your heart. Small but mighty with their selection and often rare plants, I love this place. I was first introduced to the nursery from the community garden I joined earlier this year, and I was impressed with glee. Just picture me "ooohing" and "awwwing" through the nursery for about an hour or so on my first visit. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. The gents at the store will take all your purchased items to your car and load them up for you. The first and only nursery I'll go to! I live about half a mile away from it, so I figured what the heck I'll go check out. There's a parking structure at the destination but I opted for street parking because there's plenty of that as well. It's pretty elaborate inside and I was surprised at the space they used to make the most of it. When you're actually there, it doesn't feel so small. There's a large outdoor area for outdoor plants, indoors with soils, fertilizers, pottery, equipment, etc. There's also a greenhouse that's only accessible via indoors, so you can find all indoor plants there. The workers were attentive and super friendly, answering all my questions and pointing me in the right direction. I left a happier person with my two new snake plants! Went to this place a few years ago. Had a question about some Violets, couldn't get a straight answer and the guy that worked there in the morning seemed confused about why I as a woman was asking questions about plants. I just was just suppost to know how to take care of plants. But loved answering questions to all the male costumers. Never have been back. Their plants just end up dying. DO NOT SHOP HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE ENDANGERED MONARCH BUTTERFLY MIGRATION! This store sells milkweeds they advertise as pesticide free that are full of pesticides, which resulted in the death of many caterpillars. Their rude employees didn't care, a number of them lied about being the manager and refused to get one. Do not buy milkweed here! They are full of pesticide and will kill any caterpillars you have, as well as prevent butterflies from laying eggs on them and will likely kill any butterfly or pollinator who drinks their nectar. The obese man who is a frequent cashier answered the phone and told he me was the "manager" and their milkweeds have been teeming with caterpillars. These are both lies, I've been checking their milkweed plants for a few months and every time of the last 6 times I've been here not a single caterpillar, bite mark, or eggs that I could find. How could someone trust this guy for good gardening advice when he's more than happy to lie and be the one of the surliest non-governmental employees I've ever met. Beware this toxic store!!! I can spend HOURS here.There are just so many gardening goodies here! Perusing the aisles, I imagine the many possibilities for my own garden. Ah, and it's so peaceful here, even with the hustle and bustle from the dedicated and friendly staff. The staff here is so helpful and knowledgeable. No, really. I mean it. They truly know their stuff and you can tell they enjoy their job. They are so quick to help. When I ask questions here, they don't make me feel like an idiot. I feel very comfortable in asking them any kind of gardening question (I have many). Plus, I love how they are a local business that has been around for many years. Even with the box stores like Home Depot or Lowes, Sunset Blvd Nursery has no problem keeping their customers. They have a dedicated clientele, with me being one of them. In addition, they have a lot of eco-friendly products such as E.B. Stone and Dr. Earth.They have conventional seedlings and organic seedlings. They have seeds galore, both organic and conventional. I NEVER use harmful products in my veggie garden. If I have problems with critters or fungus or whatever, the folks here can help me, with very safe and organic solutions. They have beautiful plants like succulents (my favorite), herbs, drought resistant shrubs, annuals and perennials, veggie and fruit seedlings, water plants, palms, and so much more! And of course, they have all kinds of gardening paraphernalia to make gardening just a wee bit easier and super fun. They also have a plethora of pottery here, too. Pots for big plants, small plants, and plants in between. And how can we forget the fountains? The fountains just add to the serenity of this place. Sometimes parking can be found on the street, like Fountain. They do have a microscopic lot with about four spaces. However, I usually park in the lot just west of the nursery (It doesn't even belong to Sunset Nursery) and never had an issue. For such a limited unassuming spot on Sunset Blvd, this nursery is huge inside and has TONS of selection. Best of all though are the guys walking around ready to assist you. The customer service here is not to be matched and they are so knowledgable. If you buy a planter and a plant, they'll pot it for you and make it pretty. They'll even pot your plants if your own planters from home (which I did just today). Then they'll wheel it out to your car for you and load it into your car. Jose and Martin are the BEST. They took a selection of succulents I picked out and made beautiful arrangements in my planters. Then they instructed me on how to take care of them. It is always such a wonderful experience coming here. Highlights: - Customer Service A+ - Prices are totally reasonable (for example, small succulents $4.50, mid-sized cactus $11.99, medium annuals $7.99, herbs $5-7.99, etc.) - Selection is unmatchable - Also, a huge inventory of pots and planters in the back. I have received amazing service at this place. Jr is the star of the show! He's knowledgeable, kind, & all around good human. I love working with him to decorate my commercial space & home. The only con is that they aren't as cheap as Mickey's (great quality & amazing prices). Oh.. another con. A grumpy guy works there... he's unpleasant and his service is horrible (he seems as if he hates the world). It's all a bit confusing because he works in this lovely plant shop (and plants are amazing mood boosters). So, I'm in awe every time I see him he's oscar the grouch amongst this zen environment (mind blowing)! Wonderful shop tucked behind Del Taco on the corner of Hollywood Blvd & Fountain. I went in last minute as I was having my front yard redone that day. While I had a general idea of what I wanted, as well as some photos, I really should have done some additional research. When I first walked up to one of the many cacti that I planned to purchase, I was shocked at the cost; once again, I should have done some homework. I then wandered around aimlessly only to return to the first cactus I looked at somehow hoping one of the magical nursery fairies that live amongst the plants but are invisible to the naked eye would have changed the price; turns out I may have watched one two many Netflix originals lately. Once my brain turned back on, I decided to approach one of the gentlemen who appeared to work there. I wish I would have gotten his name, as he was exactly the person I needed to speak with. I told him that I had an aesthetic picked out, and a gardener had driven down from Camarillo today and was already at my house working, but I failed to put together a budget or price out the items ahead of time. He asked me to show him the cactus I had first looked at, and proceeded to explain why the price might have been higher than I expected. He then proceeded to show me around the rest of the nursery pointing out less expensive alternatives, which primarily consisted of the exact same cacti I wanted, but simply smaller in size. He told me that with my yard, and the amount of sun my plants receive, the smaller cacti should get to my desired size in 1-2 years. So in the end, I walked out with 19 plants, and three bags of fertilizer, spending less than what I would have if I had purchased just two of the first cacti I looked at. Great customer service. Honest expertise without talking down to you. While that seems like something that should be a given, it hardly seems to be the norm in many first time purchase experiences. Sunset nursery is a great nursery! Soon as I worked in, I was like JACK POT! This place is located on Sunset and Fountain in East Hollywood. You can street park or you can park in the parking lot (only two spots and one handicap parking- Fountain side). They have a large varieties of plants in all size and flower pots. The prices are really good, but not all. I recognized they were selling small animal flower pots for $4 when it is $1.50 at Diaso. Just research the prices before you come here. I initially came here to buy one flower pot, but I came home with a lot more. My husband was mad at first because he thought I spent a lot over here. I showed him the receipt and everything was "A" okay! Lol! Now, my house looks like a jungle. I can't wait to get a bigger house, so I can buy more plants here. Hehe read more

Another great nursery-garden business in Los Angeles. Plant selection is pretty darn impressive, though you might pass by never noticing the place. Do yourself a favor and make a visit. The nursery is organized quite well with drought-resistant plants, succulents, native plants, herbs/vegetables, and indoor plants all with their own areas. Take your time here, there is plenty to see. Don't forget to browse indoor plants via entrance to main structure and the nice selection of gardening necessities. The prices seem just a tad higher than my other favorite place (Mickey Hargitay Nursery). Yet, I also found one of my most beloved species of plants "Sansevieria" for a really affordable and lowest price around. Great customer service and very friendly people employed here. read more

I was hesitant to check out a nursery in Silver Lake expecting it to be too hip and over priced but I was pleasantly surprised when it was neither. They have a HUGE selection of indoor and outdoor plants and pots. The staff is SUPER knowledgeable- I love that I can ask them about ANY of the plants and they're helpful. Buyer beware. They over water their plants. I got this baby Bonnie spider plant and when I was checking out I realized it had brown spots. I tried to leave it behind but the guy charging me told me it was normal. to just pluck them out or cut the edges. I knew better but since I didn't have a spider plant before so I listened to him. BIG MISTAKE. It's gotten worst and everyday I find dead leaves. I'm super disappointed. I haven't watered it as I was waiting for the soil to dry since it was saturated when I purchased it. I purchased it 2-3 weeks ago in a 4in pot. Inspect the roots because time and time ago I trust nurseries and they sell me rotting plants. read more

Here I thought I was harvesting genuine conversation with someone who knew a lot about the skill, in reality I put a huge target on my back and misled. I was asking a million questions while I was in the store, and they were all being answered, or so I thought, so at the time I was grateful. Fun fact: don't water your fiddle leaf plant "every other day" because it will die in a month's time. So bummed. Not only was it a giant waste of time, money, was insulting to be feed such incorrect information, but it also left a bad taste in my mouth for pseudo gardening. read more

I've found several colorful lithops here and a velvety Hawaiian stonecrop known as "Napoleon's Hat." Their stock rotates frequently, so I generally encounter something new with every visit.
