Alright this review is long overdue. I went to San Diego state, and this was my first place away from the campus and student housing after i graduated. I moved in mid 2016 to the Mendocino property . 2 bedroom 1 bathroom for 1495 per month. 15 minute walk to the beach and very quiet neighborhood next to a few restaurants and bars. They have an online portal where you can pay your rent and submit any maintenance issues. They were very attentive and most issues were fixed the next day. This property has parking and a washer and dryer in the unit ! What more could you ask for. Liz and Lynn were amazing! Honestly I was in some rough situations with a crazy roomate and they understood and made it as easy as possible. The office is literally in Ocean beach so it is so easy just to walk in , pay your rent in cash or sign documents. The most important part is that they mind their own business. If you don't bother the property management and respect the property, they will not bother you. Peace and quiet and lots of privacy. I ended up moving to Orange County for work and I wept ! I was devastated to leave this place. OB I'll be back! And I'll definitely hit up Sunset pacific when i get there read more

I hate writing bad reviews, but if I could spare anyone from this rental company I would.... 1,000 times! I lived in a property bought my this realtor company. Before they bought the property it was okay. But, after the property was bought by sunset pacific, things went downhill very quickly! The "property manager" NEVER did anything. We had a squatter in our complex the manager never did anything, I had people parking in my spot, he never did anything! I mean look at this photos of the laundry room. Our laundry room was DISGUSTING! I hated doing laundry when I lived here. The manager lived there and never cleaned up. There was no control when it came to parking, our neighbors were noisy, and when you complain to the property nothing happens. I rented from Sunset Pacific Realty for 3 years ending about 2 years ago. I never had a problem with them. They are pretty hands off which isn't a problem for me. It just means I don't have them stopping by all the time to check the place out....great. When I had plumbing problems they sent someone right away. They also refunded my entire deposit when I moved out, which is surprising because I know other places I've rented from would deduct for the littlest things. When we went to their office to fill out an application, they were very rude and condescending. On the application, rent was advertised at 1175, but when we signed our lease it said 1250. When we informed them of this, the daughter of the older woman who works there poked her head out of her office and very rudely told us if we didn't want it we could leave right now and someone else will take it. We really wanted to move to OB so we signed the lease and moved in. God forbid something goes wrong or breaks in your apartment, takes them FOREVER to fix. We lost over 200 in groceries because our refrigerator was broken and each time they sent someone to "fix" it, the guy just defrosted the fridge instead of repairing the BURNT WIRES we could see in the back of the fridge. These people only care about squeezing as much rent money out of you and have a horrible attitude towards their tenants. Avoid if you can, but if you want to live in OB, they may be one of your only options. read more

I lived in my building at 5821 Lauretta 2 years prior to Sunset Pacific Realty taking over as first rent collectors then full property management. I had no issues when dealing with the building owner directly. Once Sunset took over it was a mess. I've never dealt with a more slip-shod operation in my life. I couldn't get repairs done without pitching a fit or withholding rent, they were rude and/or dismissive when [if] you could get someone with authority on the phone and frequently used the excuse of "not getting your call" for why you never heard back from them. Most importantly, they paid no attention to tenant issues. My latest upstairs neighbors (once they took over, the building also became a revolving door) are absolutely horrible. They were underage drinking, no sense having, loud a$$ party throwing, smoke (everything) in front of my door and windows, pee outside on the side of the building outside my bedroom window, burn through the balcony grill incompetent college students. No matter that I informed Sunset about the issues nothing has ever been done about them or the other boozy drug using new tenants. They have no interest in having good relations with tenants -- only in collecting your money and reporting that repairs/upgrades have been completed that were never started and if started half-a$$ed at best. I was eventually forced out of an apartment I'd been living in for over five years. The last day I lived there, the upstairs tenants threw up out the front window down the side of the building. Horrible rental company. Allows trash to accumulate in the alley. They have ten units with only two recycle bins, one dumpster and one trash bin. They just let the trash pile up. The worst property management company in San Diego. If I had the chance to give them zero stars, I would! I had to deal with this company for two years while living in one of their units. The people running the business are rude and not professional. They are very short staffed with no communication among themselves! And it took forever to get something fixed in our unit. They would leave a note saying it was fixed and they didn't do a damn thing! The place we lived in was dirty to begin with. Everything needs to be remodeled. Carpet stained, cabinets falling apart from the inside. There was supposedly a property manager always on site, but half the time he was either gone or high from pot. They say no drugs, but every other unit is smoking pot. And no control on parking what so ever. They never checked to see who's cars are parked in our complex so anyone could park there. If you work late a night, your screwed. They don't care about you or your needs. They just want your money. And they will hold your deposit til the very end. Do not rent from there people. Do not do business with these people. If you have no other choice, write everything down these people tell you. Cause they will screw you over. read more

I liked their hands off approach to property management until I wanted to get our refrigerator fixed. They were quick about sending someone out, but the problem never got resolved. Over and over. The water heater leaked in the house, and they sent out a carpet cleaner... which completely ignores the future risk of mold; I feel sorry for whoever lives there in the future. They aren't professional, which I can handle, but they are pretty bad at being realtors. I tried to stay with the company and move to a bigger place just to make the transition faster and easier, but they told me I would have to give them 30 days notice and wait a month, repaying a new security deposit (while they waited to refund my old one), or pay double rent if I wanted to snag the place they had immediately. Instead of working with me they were going to make it purposefully difficult for no reason. Stay away from them if you can, however they do own a lot of property in OB so you're more than likely going to run into their signs everywhere. read more

I loved the location of my building, however I was forced to move due to poor management and maintenance of the property. Around October I noticed that my shower wasn't getting very hot. I had hot water in the kitchen, and the bathroom sink, just not the shower. I called 3 times to report this as it was getting worse. By December there was no hot water in the shower. I had to fill cups of hot water from the bathroom sink and poor it over myself. I tried telling myself, "there are some people in the world without clean water at all", but then friends pointed out, "yes- but they're not paying for water either." I finally called a 4th time and asked if I could get a discount on rent due to no hot water, and surprisingly they sent someone the next week! They had to make a large hole in the bathroom wall to access the plumbing, and they patched up the hole, but it was never painted over to match the rest of the bathroom. About a year later, I started finding cockroaches in the apartment! I was so embarrassed and at first didn't even want to call. A neighbor ended up asking me if I had any, as she was finding them also. I called and they said they would have pest control get in touch with me. They never did. I finally called again, and was told, "They're in the pipes, so cover your drains. Plus, due to nearby construction, even if we spray, they'll just keep coming back. So, there's nothing we can do." It was effecting my sleep as I was sleeping with the lights on! I was also embarrassed to invite anyone over, and I had to go to Vons at midnight once to buy more Raid, which is always fun when you have to be at work at 7:30 the next morning. It's unfortunate that the buildings weren't better maintained because, like I said, you can't beat the location, and they have so much potential! read more

This place is a great little family-owned business. They're located in a little office in the heart of OB. If you live in OB, it's easy to walk to their office and talk to them, or drop off your rent check. I love that! I've had 2 things that have needed fixed since I've moved in, and they've come right away to fix it. I always see Bob (the owner of Sunset) around OB, watering plants on the properties and taking care of the different locations they manage. They're great, in my opinion! read more

Went in to check out an apartment I saw in Ocean Beach. Fico score wasn't high enough. Fair enough. Brought in pay stubs and check copies for self employed work. Left it with man working. Man said to bring bank statements. Went in 2 days later. Last said "man is no longer with us we will give you back your pay stubs etc later, they're in an office that is occupied" lady said she'd call me. Never called. Went in next day... Woman pulls out items I went to retrieve and tells me my credit score is low (obviously that is why you have a pile of checks with my application) I tell woman I just came here to get my items back and that I had come in the day prior. Woman gives me a bullshit apology (obviously she has never looked at her face in the mirror when she tries to fake apologize) and tells me how crazy the week has been (really? I'm looking for a place to live... I couldn't possibly understand) Woman doesn't listen and proceeds to ask me more about credit report. I proceed to tell her I want papers back. Woman proceeds with horrendously insulting tone of voice and facial expression. I leave. End of story. This company has the market cornered on run down overpriced apartments in OB. If you do not like having the managers around in your business then these guys are a good choice. The owners of the buildings this company manages are notorious for not investing anything in their properties. But Sunset pacific is not capable of doing a good job anyways so it is a good fit. I have watched the people moving into my building paying hundreds more than I do for the same exact apt. My place is great because I am a carpenter and I made it nice. If you want to rent in OB you really have no choice but to look at Sunset Pacific's apts. Do yourself a favor and find some roommates and rent a house from a private owner. read more

They don't fix things in a timely manner but if you don't jump to respond to their complaints they'll do everything they can to get rid of you. Tried my best to work with Liz and the business there. Just because there is an ocean of other renters shouldn't mean that you are treated poorly across the board. At the end of the day i just had a couple questions to ask and think upon that fell upon deaf ears, they pushed me out of the way pretty quick after i had put a security deposit down and was already moving through their process. Insanely rude over the phone. I've been renting from these people for almost two years and have never been late with my rent or had any complaints upon my behalf. A long time ago a light burned out and I only called to see if it was alright to replace it myself... if that counts as a complaint. They answered rudely and made me feel stupid for bothering to ask in the first place, and then told me to replace it. They do whatever they can to not spend any additional money. The two girls who work in the office are rude and talk down to their own customers. Everyone else complains about these people for a reason. I used to work at the OB Subway and they were part of the snarky customer group. Never acted polite and always thought they were better than us, and most certainly never said thank you. read more

I am currently a tenant. So far I am very pleased with their ability to return calls and respond to any concerns I have with my place. The initial carpet cleaner didn't do the best job before my move-in so I had my guy come in but otherwise the place was very clean. Had to get the place sprayed for bugs since the neighboring building's bug problem got sprayed and the bugs decided to escape and move in to my place. The initial company they sent out was very disappointing (see Bargain Man Pest Control). I called and spoke with Liz, she had a new company call me within twenty minutes and got me rescheduled for the very next morning. GO LIZ!!!!! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I agree 100% with Tyler S. and Leslie. I can't believe that these people are able to stay in business. Their objectives are simple: 1. say whatever and promise whatever to get renters. 2. SAVE their own MONEY (hence the reason they charge more for their laundry facility than most local Laundromats) . It's really ridiculous. I could go on and on about the unbelievable things that are wrong with my apartment. My guests laugh when they see them. So naturally we emailed a few pictures (which may just end up posting here) to Liz (who always seems to feel too overwhelmed to care about doing her job) hoping to have the things fixed before we were to move in 2 weeks later. It has been a month and despite several emails and even in person conversations, NOTHING HAS BEEN REPAIRED. The pipe under the sink just started leaking, my inspiration for writing this review and creating a Yelp account! I am not new to renting, and I can confidently say that they are the worst managers I have ever rented from. It is such a shame too because I really do like the apartment, too bad it has been so neglected. It is too bad Sunset Pacific Reality just doesn't know how to manage and maintain properties. As a renter, I would not go with them because their properties are not well maintained. As a PROPERTY OWNER, I would not let Sunset Pacific manage my properties because they will be neglected, which will likely result in even more expensive repairs in the future. read more

I've rented from sunset twice. Both times I was impressed with their timely response to each request I submitted. Even when I clogged my own toilet the plumber was there within minutes to rescue me. This is a family run business that I feel good supporting and all of their staff seemed friendly and trustworthy. Lastly their rental pricing is very competitive. read more

Nice people when you are signing the papers, when you actually move into a property owned by them LOOK OUT! 1. Took a total of 4 weeks to change lights. After everyone in the entire complex called. 2. VERY RUDE when we called for someone to fix one of the hundreds of problems with our place. 3. Never asked if it would be ok to show our unit to possible tennents. Dropped off a paper saying they would be at our place. My roomates and I work 40 hr+ work weeks, never had time to make the place look presentable! 4. Horrible infestation of spiders all over the entire complex, along with maggots, NOT HELPFUL IN ANYWAY to help rid the property of insects. 5. Very unprofessional over all! 6. Cool, so I coordinated it and at the last second told me they wouldn't rent to me anymore and just said 'you know why'. On another occasion I had a few friends over for drinks and got charged a 75 dollar party fee for chillin watching a movie.?? Great place to rent from! The office is conveniently located in OB and the staff is extremely friendly. When I had an issue with my garbage disposal a few months ago , it was taken care of immediately. The complex I reside at (on Narragansett) is always clean and well manicured. I often see the manager watering plants, sweeping the parking area, and keeping the complex tidy. I would recommend Sunset Pacific Realty to anyone looking to live near the beach for a reasonable price and rent from a company who values their tenants. read more

The people in the office are rude and have the attitude that you are lucky to be in their presence. It's as if they are to good to be talking to you. We looked past it and stayed in the apartment anyway. The apartment complex was infested with roaches to which they "sprayed" with no affect. We had to put our own traps and bait to get rid of them. Every cabinet in the apartment had mold and the cabinets were all warped. When we had a broken shower nob it took 3 weeks for them to go look at it and by that time I went to home depot and fixed it my self. Not to mention the entire state of apartments repair was horrible. And when we moved out they didn't use a check out sheet then tried to charge us for a broken window when we turned in the keys weeks ago. And now they can't find invoices for the window and can't come up with paper work and Liz the person that inspected can't remember. And when we call to discuss the charges they immediately get defensive and rude, no matter how respectful i talked to them.I wouldn't trust them at all. Take your business elsewhere. read more

The worst property managers I've ever dealt with. I've rented from individuals who do all their own maintenance that are more responsive and professional then these people. When I called to complain about something, I was given a "lecture" like I was a 5 year old child about how I should talk to them that way (despite my flooded apt). Eventually the property I was in was given to another management company once it was revealed that this firm tried to get the roof repaired using illegal workers from a Home Depot with no bonding or insurance. The owner had to pay twice as much to get it fixed correctly and eventually fired SPR due to the rash incompetence. read more

They were always available by phone or in their office and because of this, I was always taken care of. I took great care of my apartment, leaving it in good condition and they were more then generous with my security deposit. Let me tell you about my encounter with Sunset Pacific Realty. My fiancé and I were expecting our first child, I was about 7 months along and were looking for a bigger place. Since we are from OB, we know that SPR runs almost every complex in OB, we went to them. The girl at the front desk was a little condescending but I chalked it up to it being just her personality and didn't take much offense. She told us that since we had virtually no credit, we could start with something small from them and in 6 months we would have built up enough credit with them that they could easily get us in to something bigger. We gave them an $800 money order for the deposit of this "1 bedroom" apt. About an hour later, we are sharing the news with our friend and he asks why we would move into a studio apartment because all of the apartments in that complex are studios. Say WHAT?? We go back and ask her about it and she rudely says, "I didn't say it was a 1 bedroom, I told you it was a 1 BED ROOM meaning there is 1 bed in it." Ummm, no. She purposely mislead us. Then they refused to give us back our money order telling us they had already deposited it in the bank. I told them I wasn't going to leave until they either gave me my money order back or wrote me a check. They threatened to call the police and I threatened to let them. After about 30 minutes of refusing to leave, they magically retrieved my money order from the office and told me to "Never come back." As if I was ever going to after that BS ordeal. read more
