Service was extremely attentive and the young Asian guy was absolutely a pleasure to observe as he greeted, served, and loudly wished a goodnight to those leaving. The food was not so exceptional. Sushi wasn't spectacular... Spicy tuna roll was just a chunk of tuna with some sriracha mayo slathered on the rice, not chopped up and mixed in and it wasn't spicy at all. Salmon nigiri was far too thick, chewy, and sadly had some skin remaining on the pieces, as well as there was no wasabi between the meat and rice, as is standard. There were a couple of rolls that had fishy tasting shrimp and tuna that was almost jerky-like and a little off. The miso soup was good, shrimp tempura and green curry were OK. Overall, it was spendy and none of us really enjoyed it, so we won't come back. But seriously, the service will be memorable. That kid is a real gem! read more

We LOVE this place!! Being from Seattle we're always on the hunt for great Asian cuisine here in middle TN, and we can always count on the great sushi, thai, pho, and more coming out of this kitchen. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and very nice, and the owner works behind the sushi bar everyday greeting everyone coming and going making you feel that much more appreciated. After living in LA it's been difficult to take anyplace seriously, but the team at this little hole in the wall kills it every time. Sunset? To technologists, that term means at or past end-of-life. No more. Kaput. The signage still says Zushimaki. No, it's been sunset in order to have become "Sunset." I have to take issue with a Yelp review left at the former Zushimaki Yelp page that describes this location as "aging...dark in a creepy way." This is an old, functional strip mall restaurant space. So what? It competes with other strip center restaurants, not Michelin stars. Style upgrades have nothing to do with service or food. Implying service or food is bad because the building space isn't new, hip, or flashy is unreasonable...unless you come to eat the architecture, which I don't (it leaves splinters in my teeth.) The space is clean and provides what is needed to serve you. It's been months since I last drove out of the sunset to visit, yet tonight's service was great. Pad Kee Mao was delicious. Pricing was right. And I found no sushi offerings that interested me. Near as I can tell nothing has changed. There ought'a be a law! I sat there awaiting my order and Yelp had me all worked up from saying it was closed. In name only, perhaps? So, it's not closed. It simply changed hands in place and is under different management who seem, to me, to be doing well...short of affording new signs (which can be a tad expensive) to label the new brand. The new name/logo on the menu wasn't even noticed. A savvy business transition will often maintain a prior brand. Branding doesn't seem to matter here, today, because at 5 PM the house was nearly full. I've yet to experience anything other than a full house at this location. Luck of the draw? Confusion say: "It might be the beer." But it's not. It's the signage. read more

This was our first Visit to Sunset S&T. This is a typical strip-center building with a medium sized dining room. The place is clean and we were given good service. We ordered gyoza, Tom Kha soup and a noodle dish. All were hot with good portions. The flavor of each food was above average, but did not quite compare to our favorite restaurants in neighboring towns. We will come back again when we are in the area. read more

5 stars if you're looking for an enema! Food was fine but incredibly oily. Caused digestive upset for both of us. If we come back, will stick to soup and sushi. Avoid the rice, all entrees etc basically anything that is cooked with oil. The oil was visibly dripping off the spoon from fried rice. Took my leftover pad Thai home to have for lunch the next day... only had a few bites and barely made it to the bathroom. Pad Thai was wayyy too sweet anyway. The service here was also terrible. The servers were way too stressed out. Two servers and probably 10 tables between them. No reason to be that stressed out. Their stress was making them forget orders and mess up. I can count on one hand how many times I have felt the need to give a restaurant less than 4 stars. I even feel a little bad about writing the review because I know it's a small business, but I also really rely on and respect Yelp reviews when looking for and choosing a restaurant. Not too sure how this restaurant earned 4 stars as an average on Yelp. Upon choosing our seat (it was a seat yourself situation), we chose a table away from others during the COVID social distancing. The waiter came over to wipe the table down. He used a regular wet rag with no cleaning spray on the table and quickly wiped the table flinging some crumbs on the table guests. We should have left at that point. Hoping it would get better from there, we stayed. I have enjoyed Pad Thai at numerous restaurants and have never come this close to disappointment in Pad Thai as I did here. Because I'm a strict vegetarian, I always order my vegetable pad thai without fish sauce. This has never been an issue until this meal. The waiter was not mean, but certainly not the warmest of waiters. He questioned my request for no fish sauce saying the sauce was pre-made and he didn't know what they could do to make it taste good, I guess?? He asked what sauce I wanted in this. I said I was not sure what options were available that would be vegetrian friendly. He did name a couple choices, but when soy sauce is an option, you start to lose hope in the meal. He said maybe the plum sauce. I said, that was fine. It was not. Lol. I didn't want to waste food, so I ate it, but it was nothing I would ever order again. Bland and bland and bland. I should have taken it a bit more seriously when I overheard a guy at another table tell his friend not to order the pad thai. We ordered the fried tofu as an appetizer. It came with the meal and was not at all appetizing to the point we couldn't even eat the second half. No flavor, large cubes of tofu so lightly breaded and lightly fried that it was mushy. I tried to use the soy sauce at the table to help, but even that did not work. I will say that the guy at the front counter making sushi was extremely friendly and welcoming upon entering and thanked us with a big smile when we left. Do not recommend... and if you you decide to try it, I would not go with the pad thai or fried tofu appetizer. read more

I was heartbroken when Zushi sold and the transition was a little rough for a while but they have about got it together now and I'm becoming a regular. Some new things on the menu I like. Tom yum is bout as good as it was before. Still Miss the old wait staff but I'm adapting... Red curry is a bit thin now but Im getting used to it. Nothing else remotely negative to say. New owner is a riot! Give them a try if you haven't yet or if you came shortly after transition and haven't been back. It's different but has some great things of its own to offer.
