As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us and were super friendly, answering all our questions. We ordered brisket with white rice, potato salad, and coleslaw, plus another plate with brisket and sausage, white rice, potato salad, and baked beans. The meats were tender enough to cut with a fork and really flavorful. Loved that they had two sauces, original and spicy, and both were tasty. For the sides, the coleslaw was nice and crunchy, the potato salad had a strong vinegar/mustard kick, and the baked beans were a little firmer than I'd like, but everything was decent overall. I'll definitely be back next time I'm craving brisket!

For the good: the brisket was cooked well, it was tender without being dry. Service was friendly and the sides were good. The brisket, however, did not have much flavoring in terms of a rub and the smoke ring was very light. I realize they bring the wood in from Texas, but found it pricey. Ordered the cornbread, which was not Texas cornbread. Couldn't figure out what it was. I felt it was mochi made with corns and hubby thought it was more of a bread pudding with corn. Inside is simple and mimics Texas style barbecue houses.

I am a born and raised Texan and I do not know what kind of bbq this was. The prices were wild for only having 3 meats that looked like they've been sitting out under the heat lamp all day. You know us Texans will buy anything with the name attached to it but I'm letting you know this ain't it. The brisket was okay and at least moist but there was no real smoke or bbq flavor. It looks like it's got bark but no bite. The ribs tasted old. Seriously. It made my partner sick later on and she did not feel better until she threw up. The potato salad was full of mustard and you couldn't taste anything else. The beans taste like they're from a can. I snapped a picture of the prices and sent it back to my sister in South Texas and she was shocked. Texans would never price their bbq this high. I asked the 2 people who looked asian what part of Texas they were from and they said they weren't, but the owner was from North Texas. I don't believe there are Texans making the Texas bbq. I don't think the food or the prices are authentic. You can't do bad bbq, bad prices, play country music, and call it "Texan". For all the reasons in this review, I do not recommend this place and I warn Texans who are drawn to the name to choose somewhere else.

My husband friend loves this place for brisket, ribs. Was located before in wahiawa in the same parking lot of jack in the box on Kam hwy. Now moved to the Kakaako area on cooke street. I walked in and towards the right side of the business the counter is for plate lunches and directly in the front was a counter where you order the ala cart items. We ordered a 1/2 lb pork ribs and 1/2 lb of brisket. Small coleslaw slaw too and cornbread. The pork ribs was tender and for me just right enough of sauce. The brisket was tender too. You can make your own extra sauces like original and spicy. They have onions and dill pickles also. The lady at the front counter was friendly and packing the items in bags and the person who was chopping the ribs was friendly too. Try them if you like ribs, brisket etc. They make beef ribs only on saturdays.

Frequent flyer here to do a review, but my words aren't enough...you just have to try it for yourself! You can thank me later! I've tried everything and my absolute favorite is the fatty brisket. The lean brisket is okay, but the fatty brisket taste so much better. They provide bread slices so you can easily make a divine sandwich, but I'm a local girl who loves rice! Fatty brisket over hot rice with a side bowl of tomatoes, shallot, ginger, any parboiled veggies, and Patis is my favorite way to devour the brisket. I'm salivating and craving as I type this. We buy in 2lbs increment and enjoy it for days. Try it. You'll be going back for more. This is a hit to any potluck event. Enjoy!

I've always heard about Sunset Texas BBQ, but never had the chance to go! Honestly, I was very happy with my plate. I highly recommend: Getting either the brisket or pork ribs. If you get the brisket you MUST try it with their BBQ sauce. It pairs so well together. Also for the sides just get the coleslaw. It was SUPER REFRESHING and very addicting to eat. However, somethings to note. We also ordered the house made sausage. Honestly it was okay. It was pretty dry and we were expecting it to be somewhat juicy. The potato salad has a very STRONG mustard taste to it. Personally, I wasn't a fan of it but if you love mustard then give it a try. Lastly, it was pretty pricey. 2 plates, 2 drinks, 1 link of sausage came close to $60. Overall, Worth it. They have a lot of seating and service is fast. I would come back again when it's a treat myself day :)

This was my first visit to this restaurant. While reviewing the menu, I was trying to decide which set plate to order -- brisket, rib, sausage. The lady at the counter let me know that I wasn't limited to the set menu; I could request a customized plate, and they would adjust the pricing accordingly. On this occasion I ordered the pork ribs, along with a homemade hot link (sausage). For my sides, I selected potato salad and coleslaw. For my bread, I selected simple slices of white bread. Along with a can of Pepsi, my ticket was just under $32.00. With reference to the ribs, it really had nice color striations. With reference to the taste, there was definitely black pepper to the flavor profile. The meat came off the bone easily. Overall, good taste and texture. The homemade sausage had a zing of heat to it. The texture was good: there must have been a good meat to fat ratio, because the sausage was firm, but not dry. Both the potato salad and coleslaw each and their own good taste and texture, and acted as a palate cleanser. If you're itching for a "mainland" style BBQ, this shop is a good option.

Dry or wet. Either way it's good. I've been here a few times and tried everything on the menu except for the pulled pork and beef ribs. The only reason I never tried those was because I'm not a pulled pork fan and beef ribs are only served on Saturdays. Surprisingly they don't serve chicken. I'm shocked but that just means they spend all their effort making great brisket, ribs, or pork belly. Everything is cut to order so it retains its juices. There is a spot on the counter after you pick up your order that you can get your utensils and extra BBQ sauce. I always grab extra pickles and onions. Sides are limited (you have a choice of two per plate) but my personal favorite is the potato salad and slaw. There is limited street parking. Overall four stars. Great food and friendly service. Reasonable prices. M

This was my first time here, and we had a great experience! The staff was very friendly and helpful, which made us feel welcome right away. The place is cozy, clean, and inviting. The menu is simple and easy to navigate--not overwhelming at all. The food was full of flavor, and the meat was cooked perfectly. I especially loved the coleslaw--it was fresh and delicious. Just a heads-up: there's only street parking, but it's worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

Hands down the best bbq on the Island. No where else even comes close! If you're in the mood... you know what's up. I've been here dozens of times and can't believe I've never done a review. I really don't mess with anything but the brisket. I'm a brisket man and will go out of my way for it. Not a fan of sausage. The meat is smoked slowly southern style. It's tender and full of flavor. The plates come with two sides and either rice or bread. I recommend the baked beans. They are a bit spicy and come with chunks of brisket. The cream corn is also good. The corn bread is phenomenal. This is the way it is supposed to be made. Most the other places around the area taste like box made corn bread. This is made moist, with real corn and has the consistency of a super thick pudding. The staff is also super friendly.

Brisket plate: rice/bread, and 2 sides... $26. Nice smoke ring. Tender.

Such a cute couple running the place. Instant smell of Smokey goodness. Take a look in the back at their 2 giant smokers. Decently priced for amazing smoked meats. Dino ribs (beef ribs) available on Saturday's. Come early, they were sold out by 3PM when I came. Cons: no trị rip Pros: delicious smoked brisket, nice smoke ring, and super tender. Complimentary: crunchy and cold pickles, not too sour, just the right amount. Crunchy raw onions. Original and spicy bbq sauce. Check them out!

Now open Tuesdays. Same fantastic bbq and service. Beats flying to Texas. We always pick the fatty side of brisket.

It's been on my list of places to eat! Last two attempts , they were Sold Out, but today I scored. Of course, my first choice, pork belly was sold out. Brisket was next choice and it was very good. It was juicy and tender, no knife needed. Along with the protein, you get a choice of two sides. I had potato salad and baked beans. Potato salad was good, a bit heavy on the mustard, but still very tasty. The beans had a very tasty sauce, however, the beans didn't seem fully cooked, maybe more like a kidney bean in texture and very chewy. The price seemed fair at $24. I forgot to mention you also get 2 scoop rice or bread as your starch! They do have dine in as well. Staff was very nice and helpful!

How is their meat weighted? For example, is it 1lb of brisket before or after cooking?

It's weighed by the lb after cooking, you can get 1/4 and 1/2 lb increments too. Sausage per sausage.

    Do they do curbside pickup?

No but there is plenty of street parking right in front for easy takeout. Be warned - there is always a line out to the sidewalk.

How is this place compared to Molly's? We loved Molly's and sad it's gone....

It is 100x better then Mollys

Their parking lot also extends further so it becomes a pretty decent size and we had no trouble finding a spot. The banchans were good! One of the sides was poke, which we've never seen at a Korean restaurant before. It was unexpected, but so fresh and delicious. We ordered the cold noodles, spicy pork bulgogi, and seafood pancake. Everything was really good, and we'd honestly rank those dishes above most of the Korean restaurants we've been to. The seafood pancake was packed with seafood flavor, and they definitely didn't skimp on the squid. The spicy pork bulgogi came with a bowl of rice and had the right amount of spicy. The cold noodles totally hit the spot and had just the right amount of toppings in every bite. I was left very satisfied and we even had leftovers of the pork and pancake to take home. Service was friendly, and everything arrived in a timely manner. We'll definitely be back soon to try the AYCE and the soups!

I came here for lunch. I noticed this place changed owners awhile ago. Under the new name,…read moreMoobongri, they offer Ala carte menu items as well as an AYCE menu. I like that they open at 10am and that they serve delicious banchan. I came in one weekday and was seated at one of the regular tables. I guess they assumed I wasn't going to get the AYCE, even though it's pretty affordable for weekday lunch (like $28). Id like to come back to try the ayce sometime. I decided on the cold noodle and kalbi combo for $24. The cold noodles by themselves are only $14, so I thought there would be at least a couple pieces of kalbi in the combo. Nope. Apparently one piece of kalbi is $10. It was served hot, but it was served on a hot plate with onions and the plate itself wasn't hot. Why serve it on a hot plate? Very confusing. The cold noodles were refreshing, but you can get pretty good cold noodles at any Korean restaurant I think. I was a little disappointed in the quantity of food for the combo. Or I wish they had an actual lunch special, maybe I should have just got the ayce at this point right? But I wanted the cold noodles.... Oh well. It doesn't seem like they changed the interior all that much. It was pretty nice inside to begin with and there is a big parking lot. The workers come by when you ring the table side bell. Lol, otherwise they kind of just drop off the food and leave you alone. I was surprised there were like 3 other couples eating from the Ala carte menu at 10:30. I would possibly come back to try their other soups, but I wouldn't get suckered into getting the combos.

From ordering over the phone, to picking up at 3:50 Friday afternoon (they close at 4), to the quality and flavor of the meal! I checked temp and it was only 110 when i got it home. And even though it was fully cooked, guidelines say it should be a minimum of 140 degrees when served, so I put it in a 250 degree oven to rewarm and didn't serve till it got up to almost 160 degrees. Only took 30 or 45 minutes. Everyone enjoyed watching me carve it up (which i only knew how to do from watching you tube videos) the meat was delicious, tender and moist, with crisp skin, in spite of the reheating process. Chun's Meat Market is located in the heart of Chinatown inside of Oahu Market, and it appears they specialize in Chinese BBQ meats like - Char Siu, Roast Pork, Roast Duck, Shoyu Chicken, Turkey Tail, & Five Spice Honey Combo Tripe. Service here was pretty fast & friendly, and basically this shop is a grab & go kinda joint. The day I came here I picked up half a Roast Duck, as well as a pound of Char Siu for my dad. What can I say about the grub? I did not partake in the Char Siu so I cannot say how it tasted, but as for the Roast Duck the marinade tasted on the saltier side. Although the price they charged for their Roast Duck was very competitive, the Roast Duck was not as meaty as the Roast Duck I would buy from other places I normally patronize. Overall, a pretty good Meat Market with great service.
