Top for a quick fast meal but a bit disappointing result! Normally we love Bo's good meal fast and tasty but his time not so much. Garlic chicken- over fried - a bit hard and dry Hamburger & gravy - hamburger good gravy needs some work! Kimchee and Mac salad always very good! SO I got one beef rib, and the Hibachi chicken plate. Only complaint is it didn't come w enough mac salad, which was delicious mind you. This BBQ joint is so bomb. The woman at the counter is always nice to me, the fat haole girl. lol. The walk up counter is usually packed. I went in the middle of the afternoon and it was not crowded. There are picnic tables out front to eat at. This is one of the best mac salads in town. read more

This place was in my Yelp bookmark for a long time. Was passing by and there was no line so good chance to give it a try. I ordered a regular Kalbi Short Ribs Combo with Scallops and my husband ordered a regular Hibachi Chicken. Heard about their Giant Fries so ordered that too. Looking at my food pic, we had a lot of carbs. As I was posting the pics, there was a sign that you can substitute the mac salad with kernel corn, toss salad, Kim Chee, cole slaw or rice. If I saw the sign or if they mentioned the substitution, I would've chosen cole slaw for me and tossed for my husband. Next time... There were 2 pieces of kalbi and 3 pieces of scallops with tartar sauce on the side with the price of $17.75. They put shredded cabbage under the kalbi so whenever places do this, I like to mix it in my mac salad...yum! The hibachi chicken came with 3 pieces for $15.50. Both plates were tasty and we enjoyed our food. The giant fries came with 5 pieces for $6.95. Thought it was okay but pricey for $1.39 a piece. The person who helped us was nice, they have LOTS of parking so it's very convenient and have a large selection of food so will be back to try something else. I heard they'll be moving soon in the old Tasty Chop Suey bldg. located on the corner of Gulick Ave. and N. School Street some time this year which is closer to where I live...yay! read more

In all the time I've lived on Oahu (well over a decade), I'd never eaten at Bob's. We decided to pick up some plate lunches while in town. Though the parking lot was busy, there were only a few of orders ahead of us so the wait wasn't long. They have a few benches that are shaded, but one was occupied by a couple of houseless dudes so customers were mainly waiting at the two benches closest to the window. We got the bbq mix plate and hibachi chicken. Plates had generous portions of protein and rice, and the mac salads were served in separate containers. Overall the food was alright; my mother in law noted that the kalbi was quite salty and husband thought the mac salad a bit heavy on the mayonnaise. I know it's out of their control who hangs out on their benches but as a woman, I would not be comfortable going here alone to get food. read more

Stopped by Bob's for lunch right before the rush. Seems like a lot of people just grab n go at this spot but my family and I hung out at the outdoor tables for lunch. I ordered the short ribs Kalbi and fried chicken. Not too bad. Pretty generic fried chicken nothing special. The kalbi was good with more of that burnt bbq flavor which I do like. Stopped by this place to try some bbq. We got the super combo so that we could try a little of everything: beef ribs, baby back ribs, kalbi, teriyaki beef, and teriyaki chicken. It also comes with 3 scoops of rice and 2 scoops of Mac salad in separate containers. The portions seem generous and this combo was plenty of food for at least two people. While I don't normally get chicken, I thought the chicken was moist and very good. Probably one of the best items. We also liked the kalbi, but that's my favorite meat in general. The teriyaki beef was next best. As for the ribs, they were slathered in sauce so the beef and pork kind of tasted the same to me. There was a little bit of cole slaw underneath the meats, but it was drenched with sauce. It was good with the rice. Bob's is a bbq stand with about 10 tablespoons or so outdoors underneath a covered patio. It is not an ambient dining experience but a good place to get take-out or for a casual bbq meal. It's been many years since I've been to Bob's. At that time their malts and shakes were their popular items. Today went to pick up dinner. Parking was a hassle. So I dropped my wife off, while I waited for a parking stall. With the parking lot full you have to reverse onto Waikamilo Road to get out. I didn't get a malt or shake. Had the roast pork plate special. Three nicely slice pieces of meat and a good tasting gravy with two scoops rice . My wife said the service was friendly. Note: The Bob's building is an old wooden structure. You have to transverse two old steps to get to the counter. Be careful when going up and down these steps. Enjoy read more

This place never disappoints when it comes to delicious food at a great price. Just check out the photos--look at those massive portions! I got the special shoyu chicken for $13.50! My partner got the beef rib--I honestly forgot the price, but it doesn't matter to me. He really wanted it, and since I was paying, I just wanted him to enjoy whatever he felt like. The ladies working there are super friendly, and if you ask while waiting, they'll even give you free water. The area can get a little sketchy at certain times, and yeah, you might run into some weird folks. If that's not your vibe, you can always take your food to go. Personally, I just eat there--I'm kinda weird myself, and when I'm hungry, I'm not about to wait to get home. Will always come back here. Highly recommend! read more

Had my chance to visit this place during my trip and was very happy I did. The gentlemen that helped me was very nice and helpful and seemed like either the owner or sr employee. I had seen a few YouTube videos on the place and the food looked great. There was one group there that was eating their food that looked like locals and looked like they were enjoying their food. I asks the worker what I should try to get the good first experience and he mentioned the super platter. I was not disappointed. The place was kind of in da hood but I've found sometimes the best food comes from da hood. The super platter had two huge beef ribs, some pork ribs, some Teri beef and bbq chicken. The firework of the grill is good here and is well priced. The only thing is the place feels a little more sketch if you want to eat here. There is seating if you want to eat it fresh off the grill but everything comes in a to go box. Also the portions are huge. There's also ample of parking here. read more

Got the Teri burger and a malt shake for lunch. We did a call in order for around 11 am. We got there on a Friday, and it was decently busy for the lunch rush. It's a small shop, and a little bit hidden. We picked it up and they prepared our malts when we got there. The malt was delicious, $6 for a medium size, $7 for a large.The price is great for what you get. The burger was delicious and had simple toppings, wish it had a little more salt though. It was also $6.50 for the Teri Cheeseburger. Overall I would return again! read more

First stop after getting to Hawaii. Tried out the Chicken Katsu and the Teriyaki chicken. They both were really good. Very tasty and they came with a side of a pasta/ macaroni salad which was also really good. It all really hit the spot however the only complaint would be that there was a lot of flies while trying to enjoy your food and they kept landing in our food but I also completely understand due to the location. Our beloved Bobs Bar B-Q-Que will be moving this year to the former Tasty chop suey this year. I didn't ask the staff when, but I know it's this year. The Bobs iconic soon will soon no longer be on Waiakamiko Street. All the food here is grilled so the burgers are yummy! I got the bobs meal today but sad that my patty shrunk, the fries was plentiful but nonetheless everything was tasty. Love their Kalbi too! Been coming here for over 20 years. It's always our first stop after we arrive at Honolulu. Abundant serving of good quality BBQ meats that's reasonably priced. The bbq sauce is not too over powering to the point where you can't taste the natural flavor of the meats. Got the mix rib plate with plenty of beef and pork ribs. Finger licking good. read more

Hearty portions and friendly service are what I remembered from Bob's. It's located at a weird corner of a busy intersection, but it's a popular spot. It's fresh and affordable. The best thing I ate was the pork egg rolls. They tasted like big, fresh lumpia shanghai and are the best thing I tasted during my trip to Honolulu. It's not fancy, but it's good. Don't let the looks make you think it's not a good place, because it really is exceptional and clean in the kitchen . I like their fish, order Ahi dinner , Saba , short ribs combo and scallop , chicken everything tasted yummy. Preordered and did an easy pickup. Lovely staff and not too busy on a Friday night. First time here and got the kalbi plate which was delicious. Normally look forward to having Hawaiian Mac salad but it was so so. Pork egg rolls were good and a great value. Last item was Teri beef saimin. Recommend either getting the plain saimin or the Teri beef on the side. All the meat here are charged on a grill so when added to the noodles, it makes the whole thing very oily and the charred extra bits permeates into the soup in a burnt taste way. read more

Don't ever go Bob's BBQ they fucking suck! Asked for a plate lunch size of chicken katsu, because a pan would be to much. I got charged $15 for 6 pieces of fucking chicken katsu! That's so wrong and disrespectful, never seen that before. Wasn't expecting the plate to over flowing with chicken, $15 for 6 pieces of chicken is so wrong. I was expecting the plate to at least be full and a good amount. So I definitely would not recommend anyone to ever eat here! read more

Stopped in and picked up a Teri Cheeseburger and fries and chocolate malt. Bobs has been located on the corner of Waiakamilo and Dillingham for as long as I can remember! It's a nostalgic place, no frills, a few open benches outside and a pretty yummy chocolate malt shake. Sitting on the bench eating my teri cheeseburger watching all the construction taking place with RAIL being built right in front of it hoping that this spot will remain through the chaos of change. The staff is always friendly and they know their regulars that frequent this place. Bob's been here for a very long time, but I just recently started coming here and I enjoy it. Restaurant doesn't seem very clean, but it's an old place and they do have a green inspection card. Lots of outdoor tables available. Yes, outdoors, so don't expect it to be clean. The restaurant is busy. The cashier is very good at her job. Food is made to order and they have a huge menu. Good to see the variety of sandwiches as well. Very generous serving, enough to split with someone. My favorite is the combination, teriyaki beef/teriyaki chicken. Delicious marinate, meats are tender, best to eat it right away otherwise the teriyaki beef will dry out. I tried something different this time, and ordered the hibachi chicken. The marinate is a sweet ketchup based sauce, and understand this is a popular item. Although the chicken was tender, I don't quite care for this type of sauce. Mister likes the teriyaki beef sandwich, said the beef is tender, and he would order it again, good ratio with the beef. Must get the chocolate malt! So delicious!!!! Be careful driving out from the parking lot. It is located at the corner of a very busy location and cars driving in from every direction. It's very dangerous to try and make a left out, and there are cars turning right and would have trouble seeing you driving out from the parking lot. read more

What an icon... I don't remember this place coming up. It's that old. Haha. There are certain things we always get here. Asst Seafood plate(fried shrimp, fish and scallops), bbq chicken plate, curly fries, Teri burger sandwich and those chocolate malts. Oohhh those chocolate malts. We also liked the haupia which was a very refreshing coconut pudding though for some reason our boys didn't like it. We also tried pipikaula which are thinly sliced dry-aged beef short ribs marinated in soy sauce and something else that made it sweet. If you know Korean barbeque, you'll instantly get the sensation that these are close cousins to galbi, though the pipikaula are much less sweet in comparison. The dry aging process also makes them a bit more dryer than galbi. On to more difficult stuff. I was enthusiastic about the fried butterfish collar but once I got a waft of the dish, I knew I was in trouble. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fish so the smell (more than the taste) was off putting. My wife was fine with it and enjoyed the dish, but if you aren't a fan of fishy fish, then I would skip it. The lomi salmon looked very much like pico de gallo with the addition of salt-cured salmon. My boys loved this dish because they love salmon but again I would steer clear if you are a seafood weakling like me. Alas, we come to poi. Had my hopes up since I love taro but the texture and a bit of sourness from fermentation deterred me from trying too much of it. I'm glad we tried it but not sure that we would get it again.

The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Now I've had a lot of these in my life, and I must say, Iyasume are easily the best. See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. At Iyasume, these are culinary adventures, stacked with ingredients, all in handheld form, and the variety they offer is IMPRESSIVE! Of course musubi starts with the classic, SPAM. I had to order the kimchi + spam, shiso + spam, and unagi + tamago + spam, all of which were awesome (even the next day!). Onigiri here are actually layered with ingredients, so you get them in every bite, unlike the convenience store versions! They have a HUGE menu, and I went with spicy mentaiko and salmon, spicy mentaiko and ikura, ikura and salmon, and tuna mayo curry, all of which were great. I LOVE that they make these to order. You can see the line in the back hard at work, and they're very fast. You're sure to encounter a line when you arrive, but don't be scared, it moves quickly. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! We were fortunate to grab a table in the upper deck area (it's not clearly labeled, but the circular tables by the bar are first-come, first-serve), and we ordered some drinks and appetizers while we waited. Yes, the prices are higher and portion sizes are smaller than what you get, but it's for the view and entertainment. Our servers were attentive and were very good about refilling our water cups, which I really appreciated. Henry Kapono was great, and after we were done with our meal, we went out to the patio to join folks who were enjoying the music. People were dancing in front of the stage area, socializing with other guests, and enjoying the wonderful weather, drinks, and music. What more can you ask for when you're visiting Hawaii? :)
