I have been with Dr S for about five years. He has helped me work through some major trauma and…read morehelped me identify what was causing my depression. He also helped me find the medications that worked for me and continues to check in on how well the dosage is working for me. When I became manic, he was the first person my parents called and was the only reason I wasn't put into a hospital. He quickly found medication that would make me sleep and stabilize my mood and also helped me understand what was going on. I am 21 and he has worked with me since I was 15. Because of this, he has helped me figure out my own identity and where I want to go in life. This work goes beyond psychiatry and leans toward being a life coach. Some may say that this is not his area of expertise but I believe that mental well-being is a wholistic endeavor that requires a look into your daily life. Through his guidance and therapy, I have discovered that my happiness is not contingent on objects or experiences (though those do play an important role) but on my outlook on life and how I respond to situations. I have learned that I am responsible for my own happiness. Although right now, being happy is spontaneous and easy, it will not come as naturally when I am depressed or if I become manic again. I will have to remember that happiness comes from accepting the world as it is and changing what I can. Thank you doctor.

Though I only saw this guy a few times, I have strong mixed feelings about him…read more He seems to REALLY care about his patients- he has to have all of your previous records, will not prescribe certain medications (as he believes they can do more harm than good), and checks up on you after hours (I got calls as late as at 8:30 at night). My mother swears by him, and continues to work with him to this day. He is also not like the typical psych that gives you your medications and then boots you out the door- no, he is ALSO your therapist. He also makes doubly sure to have contact with your doctor, dietitian, and other professionals, so that they know what's going on with your treatment, as well. However, there are a lot of cons that weigh on my mind. After getting home from Remuda Ranch for anorexia/bulimia nervosa, I desperately needed a good psychiatrist. My mom recommended Schenkman, and I was hesitantly hopeful. He's very serious about what he does, but without insurance, you're going to go broke- the evaluation to see him is a slick 300$, and I believe appointments after that are 150$? If you are a serious case, as I am, he wants you to come in 2-3 times a week. Yeah, impossible if you are already struggling for money in these hard times. Also, he expects you to do a lot for him, such as: collect all of your previous medical records (a LOT for me), get blood tests, have a general practitioner, relinquish all mental health control to him (can't have another therapist, as well), and THEN he MIGHT decide to take you on as a patient. The entire time, you are up in the air going, who is going to prescribe my medications (if you're already on meds, that is) and what am I doing? Also, he misinterpreted things, quoted me incorrectly, and would be upset if I hadn't done something for him (even though he hadn't asked me to). The office receptionist is nice, but a little distant and cooky. Also, she will forget to tell the doctor that you called on occasions. They only accept cash or check here, making it a little irritating for those who only keep easy little credit cards in our purses. If you FORGET to bring your money/checks, you are out of luck, and the doctor will not see you. I mean, I understand why they do it (to make sure they get paid), but ugh! Frustrating! The last thing that bugged me was that, after seeing him 3-4 times (driving across town about 20 minutes each time), he said that he wouldn't see me until I was medically stable. He kept pushing and pushing and pushing for me to go into my fourth treatment centre for anorexia nervosa (which he didn't seem to understand too well) and borderline personality disorder (which I haven't even been diagnosed with before) at Harvard- which is all the way across the country. Of course, I cannot go into inpatient care again, because I'm literally out of money and my parents can't afford anything more. He decided to bring my mom in and guilt-trip her, by saying that other families would sell their cars and houses to get long-term treatment for their children like I needed. My parents are NOT (repeat NOT) cheap-asses. They have paid for hospitalisations, treatment centres, and doctor's appointments on many occasions. So that just pissed me off. So, I told him I would go to Harvard if he "would pay for it, since you want me to go so badly." Obviously, he didn't agree to that. The last appointment ended with me so angry that I was queasy, and him saying: "Well, I wish you the best of luck." Hmmmm.

Everyone who works there is so kind and wise and really makes the lessons learned stick. Even the other attendees help me so much since I'm not alone. She continuously tries to prescribe medication ,every single month ,that has a known cause for tartive dyskinesia, who wants to experience uncontrollable movements due to their mental health medication, and this tardive dyskinesia is irreversible. however, she still continues to prescribe these things for me.recently she told me she was going to start a forced taper on a medication that I have been taking for years that I have not had any problems with, when I contacted Samantha Gort regarding this. She told me that my psychiatrist did not put this in my chart, that is a no-no,that needs to be charted when you tell your patient you are going to force taper them ,on top of that Samantha made judgment calls about me without even knowing me or my situation. I am going to see a different provider with the organization, but I am very unhappy with the way I have been treated and have lost trust in them. I will update as my treatment continues until I decide not to go there anymore which I have a feeling is where this is going. Update: I just had my appointment with my new psychiatrist and what a world of difference. I feel so relieved and I feel like I finally found someone who cares about people and not just money. He actually spent 10 minutes with me which is much better than what the previous provider did he also assured me that decisions about medication whether it be tapered discontinued or changed would be a decision made between the two of us, which is the opposite of what the previous providers said she was trying to force taper me, if you have to go to psychiatric wellness ask for Jacob Rosales he is the best. I ended up seeing a Nurse Practitioner, which was sort of a bummer too, but she was nice and thorough. In the end none of my medication changed. I do feel like she could have suggested more options. On several occasions, I missed appointments purely unintentionally, at this office. "My bad" - without question or excuse. So, my conscience being my guide, led me to go to Dr. Duggal's office to hopefully explain the extenuating circumstances regarding these missed appointments. I was very hesitant, thinking that I might be kicked out of her practice! And rightfully so - if that were the case...but it was NOT. I was permitted to speak to Dr. Duggal's Office Manager, "Summer." She allowed me entrance in to her office, quietly closing the door, and I began by apologizing profusely saying that in no way do I ever want to miss an appointment because that would have been someone else's spot. "Summer" listened intently to the extenuating circumstances I shared, explaining that I was not there to tell her my life's problems, but that these truly were the prevailing circumstances. With aplomb, she sat quietly and with an open mind, allowing me space to share this unfortunate life circumstance that is prevailing, continued listening. I was so overwhelmed by her professionalism, kindness and caring that at one point I became a tad weepy. In her kindness, she offered me a tissue. Where on this planet would any patient be afforded the opportunity and TIME to be heard? WHERE? No where that I know of...no where. I will never forget this as long as I live. This office is a gift to the medical profession in this town, and Dr. Duggal's entire staff is as well. Always welcoming patients with tender smiles, kind nods, and lending ears. Such an example to other medical offices here...I absolutely cannot THANK Dr. Duggal's office staff enough, and in particular, "Summer" for who she is...a true, caring professional in the medical field. I like to think of YELP reviews as presenting experiences that lend themselves to the readers' own mind of discerning the "right" or "wrong" of a situation. Often times readers "get their panties in a wad" over an experience that is not shed in good light. Why? Let's all seek to be the SOLUTION to a problem or "one-off" experience that is not good...instead of crucifying the reviewer for sharing a problem - further demonstrating the truth of the review and of their inability to accept constructive criticism.

I have Addison's disease and was told this is the best endocrine center in town. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that reputation. I had a scheduled appointment canceled after I arrived because lab work had not been done--lab work that was never ordered or communicated to me in advance. Between January 20-23, I called the office repeatedly trying to obtain a doctor's note to return to work and guidance on emergency injection protocols. I was placed on hold, disconnected, or unable to get help multiple times. I have call logs documenting these attempts. For patients with adrenal insufficiency, timely communication is not optional--it is a safety issue. The lack of responsiveness and administrative coordination was deeply concerning. I hope this office reviews its processes, because patients with complex endocrine conditions deserve far better.

For years I had been prescribed 1 mg of lorazepam, 1mg daily. She saw this in my chart and took the opportunity to lecture me about the hazards of pain medication and benzos as if I were a strung out drug seeker..I assured her my doctor was informed and many times did not need to take the dose daily- she immediately perked up and stated "well it better be in your system then we're about to find out" (um, where else ma'am) at this time she noticed my purse buzzing, got extremely wide eyed and wouldn't hear of the fact that it was indeed, my phone vibrating in my purse. All phones were supposed to be off. Once she got through with THAT lecture too she ordered a X-ray of my NECK (for pain associated with my rotator cuff and lower back) further labs, and reminded me not to forget my urine test on the way out.
