At my previous house I had used Sunshine a few times to replace a few doors and other exterior work. When the time came to replace my roof, I collected a few quotes and between being the lowest price and my prior experience, I had them do the work. Once they confirmed the shingles type and inventory, we scheduled the materials delivery date and installation. The shingles arrived as scheduled and were placed onto the roof and work began the next day. They took care to move everything away from the sides of the house. They worked quickly and efficiently and were as quiet as could be expected w/ that kind of work. The work took two days and at the end of each day, they left the ground around the house immaculate (definitely cleaner than before their arrival) and returned everything they had moved back to where it was previously. Since having the roof replaced, we've had a couple of rain storms, once heavy and one lighter and haven't seen any issues, including around our skylights, which I was most nervous about. So far, so good! I'll definitely consider them for future needs for other exterior work. read more

I really couldn't be more pleased with Sunshine Contracting. I hired them to replace some windows and re-do my exterior trim work. I've had two previous contractions work on the trim, and both times I was disappointed with the quality (or lack thereof) of their work. Sunshine used a different approach, and encased my existing trim with an aluminum covering. Their rep Frank, along with my project managers AJ and Nate were all courteous and professional. It's really hard to get them out once they complete installing the siding. My channel trim has warped and faded. It's not what it used to be. Then caulking that turns dark is $75 each to go over. The wrapping of wood now look dark and unsightly. Paint lasts a lot longer and looks cleaner. I've called several times for service and no one has scheduled me. read more

Byer beware, read the fine print in the contract. I had them replace my roof a couple of years ago, soon after they completed the job my roof leaked water around one of the skylights. I went up to check it and discovered they had not replaced the flashing. I called them and was told flashing replacement was not part of the contract, they offered to put silicon around the area which was leaking. Naturally that was not a permanent fix and the roof leaked again. Other roofing companies I contacted to repair the leaks told me flashing replacement is standard practice for skylights. Along with not replacing the flashing they also did not install ice and water shield which again I was informed is standard practice. $4200 later I now have a roof that does not leak, plus the additional cost to repair the internal water damage. read more

I was initially very impressed with Sunshine. The estimator, Jordan, could not have been more responsive. I spoke with him multiple times over several weeks and ultimately chose to hire Sunshine to replace my roof in large part because of his customer service. Their crew was really hardworking during the two-day job. However support after the work was completed was disappointing to say the least. I noted two issues to the Sunshine office: 1) One of my gutters was bowed in the middle, and 2) and there was a huge bump in a section of the roof extending from the ridge all the way down to the gutter. Someone from the Sunshine office came out and agreed to fix the gutter, but I was surprised when they claimed that the raised area was not their problem. Over the next few days, we went back and forth over the cause and potential solutions, while they kept insisting that it was not their problem. At one point, they brought out someone who apparently does not work for Sunshine to confirm Sunshine's opinion about the roof. I still don't know who he was or what his expertise was supposed to be, or why I was supposed to accept his opinion. Frankly, that was pretty bizarre, In any event, that is the way Sunshine left my brand new $11,000 roof. They claimed that the hump would settle over time, but they completed the job in June and now, in December, it is exactly the same. It is very visible from the ground and very unsightly. I am very concerned that, when I go to sell the house, a potential buyer will be scared off by an obvious issue with my "new" roof. I had planned to use Sunshine for a couple of other repair projects, but after learning the hard way that they do not stand behind their work, that is out. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review at all, but I keep finding more and more wrong. Where do I start? 1. the contract included the removal of a door to be replaced with a wall. At first the subcontractor wasn't going to do it at all and began siding around the door. Had to call the contractor to get that straightened out. Apparently that part wasn't adequately conveyed to the sub. Then they only removed the door and left the frame. I had to tell them the whole thing needed to be removed. Frame and all. Then they only slapped up a sheet of plywood haphazardly instead of framing the wall properly. Then, when he was finally going to frame the wall, he wanted to do it incorrectly. I had to explain to him how to properly frame a wall. Finally that is all straightened out. But then they didn't apply the vapor/weather barrier over it. They just started siding over the bare plywood. After they left I had to put up the weather barrier myself because they clearly had no intention of doing so. 2. they were supposed to remove all of the old wood panel siding. They removed the old stuff from the front of the house and side of the garage, but not the front of the garage. But good news, the contractor gave me a discount for it not being done. Yay, but I will have old siding under the new siding on the front of the garage. 3. I specifically asked that the cable line go under the siding rather than drilling a hole through the wall. The guy that first came to determine a quote said that would be a problem. But they drilled a hole through the new siding anyway. 4. I have a light on the front of my garage. They put up a mount to place the light against. Cool, but they couldn't be bothered to center it, so it hangs off the top. (See photo) I also have a light on the back of the house. They used a smaller mount for that one, so it hangs off on both ends. At least that one is centered. 5. a bunch of material was left behind. Some of it I can use in the future in case of siding damage. Others, I don't even understand what it's for. I just threw away a piece that is just random and there is no other piece like it on the house? Also, there is the dryer vent. I only have one dryer vent, but I now have two boxes of extra dryer vents. Additionally I have three full boxes of extra caulk and some weird moulding that is also nowhere to be found on the house. I have no idea what to do with all of this stuff, but I certainly paid for it. Just realized 6. Half the house has channels on the bottom of the lowermost siding pieces, and half the house doesn't. Why? So, all that being said I'm a bit annoyed that in paying nearly 20k for siding on a single story, I got little attention to detail and mostly frustration. I couldn't wait for them to leave. From now on, no more contractors will work on my house. I will do the work myself. I can do shoddy work for a lot less money. I swear the more I look at it the more things I find. But they are getting two stars because at least the color is nice. read more

Sunshine Contracting Corp, specifically Matt Knez and Chris Posselh were personally responsible for a significant portion of our house being destroyed. Sunshine Contracting Corp's roofing replacement was grossly negligent and their inability to handle the weather event was project management incompetence. We haven't had any communication from Sunshine other than to collect for their fraudulent roofing project. They added $4000 worth of additional services on to our initial contract that we did not approve and that should not have been necessary. On June 19, 2018, a crew from Sunshine Contracting arrived at our house at approximately 7:30am to replace our roof. A heavy thunderstorm was predicted for that afternoon. At approximately 3pm, the thunderstorm occurred, but the crew failed to take adequate precautions to protect our home. A substantial amount of rain poured into our home and caused extensive house and property damage (approximately 30% of the house was damaged). Soon after the new roof was installed, we experienced water leaks. Sunshine Contracting last worked on the water leaks in the roof at our home in August 2018. These repairs failed and the leaks continued. We then had to hire a different roofing company to correct Sunshine's installation mistakes and properly flash the roof around the skylights and the sunroom addition. These repairs cost us an additional $4,500. It took 23 months to repair the damage and rebuild our home. The reconstruction costs were $110,000, of which $20,000 was not covered by insurance so we had to pay this out of pocket. In addition, $44,000 in furniture was destroyed. This process was extremely disruptive to our lives and jobs. We lost more than 60 days of work to be present to deal with contractors, and significantly more time was spent managing the reconstruction and insurance company issues. At one point, we had to be relocated for four nights. We have not attempted to estimate a dollar amount for the stress we endured from all of this, but we could try to do so if that would be useful. We are now gathering other homeowners in our neighborhood and other communities in Northern Virginia to file law suits against Sunshine Contracting Corp. for gross negligence and failure to install new roofing to meet industry standards. If you are considering doing business with this company, we would strongly recommend that you would find anyone else to do the work. read more

Called for a roof replacement estimate. Was told the lady who handles that stepped away from her desk but will call me back shortly. Never received a callback. After reading Yelp reviews, I'm not surprised actually. A friend who had her roof done said they did a "good" job but her husband went on their roof to inspect afterwards. He found many things that, according to him, the crew "slacked on, didn't pay attention to detail." They did, however, fix them once brought to their attention. But why did he have to do that?? Save your money and hire an professional installer directly. According to provia, this company is a "secondary" buyer of their products. So don't bother. The window world t-shirt and WW insulation foam they were using speaks more to the skill of these installers. No mitre box/saw or table saw to rip the trim. Hacked up wood around a new door. But what was worse was trying to install a door at more than 11 1/2 inches tall! A jumping step to enter a the house! When I called my "manager" at sunshine she was not at all concerned and no one from the company came to the job site. The very nice Spanish speaking installers were on their own to lower the door which they did. After 7 long hours and copious amounts of calk the door was in. Never again. After Sunshine Contracting contacted me to apologize for my previous experience I decided to give them another chance (and a discount helped my decision too). They replaced the all of the windows in my home and finally finished the weather striping on the french doors they installed last year. Although I found it incredibly rude for one of the workers to use the master bathroom without concent (there are three other bathrooms in the house) and we had to clean up debris from the old windows outside behind them -the windows look absolutely beautiful and we can see the difference inside the home with better insulation. Overall I am happy with the product and might reach out again in the future if/when I have to replace the dog door with a regular one. read more

Matt from their claims department reached out in regards to my previous review and apologized on behalf of the company for the interaction I had with "CW" and explained the situation on my roof. The company offered to do the repair "at-cost", which came out to half the price it would have been normally. While a free repair would have been much appreciated, I definitely need a repair asap and was comfortable with the price. The repair was approved, but there was some miscommunication and prior notification of when the team was coming over was not given, resulting in their roofing team scaling my fence (when I could have let them via the backdoor). This also meant my neighbors were not warned beforehand as they were greeted to the repairs right above them in the morning. This situation was also discussed with Matt and the project manager. The project manager took great photos of the roof problem, although he left before the work finished and thus no pictures of the post-repair was taken. So far it seems like the repair has held up and I hope it continues to do so past the 1 year warranty Sunshine put on the repair. The current rating reflects an improvement over the original interaction I had with the company, and I hope to work with them in the future and to give them a 5 star review following that work. read more

Hope their construction isn't as bad as their communication. Scheduled an appointment for someone to come out to give me an estimate on a roof replacement on 6/30 for 9am. Then a few days later I got an email asking to push my appointment back to 10:30am which I was fine with. Then on Saturday around 9am I get a call from person who was supposed to stop by telling me that his AC broke and he needed someone to fix it and he wanted to know if he could reschedule. Obviously I wouldn't want to be in the situation of having a broken AC unit in the summer so I told him we could reschedule. It being the 4th of July coming up we reschedule for 7/5 at 5pm. On the 5th I get a call from Sunshine Contracting telling me it was raining and their rep couldn't come out. (they called at 10am) 7 hrs, before they were supposed to come out. I asked if they could just come out and still talk to me about the roof and work up an estimate by going in the Attic (almost every other company did this). I was told that wasn't possible but they would come by the next morning and I didn't need to be home. The next morning no one showed up and then at 10:15 am I get an email from them thanking me for meeting with them and they were sending over the "discussed proposal" soon. I replied back that no one ever came to to my house and not one talked to me at all. And that was the last I heard from them. I started using Sun Shine Contracting several years ago for window replacement. They did a great job and the crew was fantastic. Up until two years ago I would have gladly recommend them to anyone needing work done but I will not. Sun Shine replaces my roof two years ago after a storm. From day one I knew it was a mistake as things that should have been fixed at the time were ignored by them. Three weeks ago I noticed a problem with my roof that was covered under a lifetime guarantee. Two guys came out and "fixed" the problem. When the supervisor came out I asked him if they could replace the rotted wood around my chimney he said yes and that another person would call and come out to look at it. Two weeks now and I am still waiting... I will not be using this company anymore as they are unreliable and ignore you when you ask for something. Oh the repair to the roof is not holding. He proceeded to act like I was lying and become very rude trying to force his business card on me. I repeated I did not need his card and he shoved it in my door anyway after I refused to take it. When the work started, he did not contact the homeowner/ seller or me about the status of the project at the end of the day. I contacted him the next day, he claimed the project was completed but after I sent him pictures of the roof, he backtracked said it was not completed. He never visited the project site in person. Scott Sterling, Supervisor - Scott stepped in to oversee the project. He handled completion of the roof and repairs to the water damage in the attic, ceiling, and two bedrooms. AJ Lemaitre, Vice President - AJ (or any leadership) never initiated contact to apologize about the debacle. The only time she initiated contact was to collect payment. Purpose of Project: Replace roof before the appraisal. Friday: 1. Sunshine Contracting did not cover the unfinished roof with a tarp after all weather sources warned of heavy rain over the weekend. 2. The Project Manager did not contact the homeowner/ seller or me about the project status at the end of the day. Saturday: 1. I forwarded the pictures to the Sunshine Contracting office but did not receive a response. 7. The Supervisor called to notify me that Sunshine Contracting would come over to cover the unfinished and uncovered roof with a tarp. However, damage already occurred in the attic, ceiling, and two bedrooms. After Action: The repairs to the water damage in the attic, ceiling, and two bedrooms delayed the appraisal which delayed closing. After all of the failures, Sunshine Contracting still forgot to install a vent in the roof as stated in the contract. Lessons Learned: 1. Do not ignore the negative reviews. We called them for an estimate on repairs to an existing sunroom with some water damage, in need of new doors, windows, posts, etc. Spent about 30-45 minutes with Scott. Three weeks later never heard back from him. We even called Sunshine's office three times in 3 weeks asking for the estimate, yet no call back, no estimate. Highly disappointed. After receiving bids from several companies, we selected Sunshine Contracting to replace all of the windows in our house with Sunrise windows, do a complete removal and replacement of all of the siding on our "Tudor style" house with James Hardi fiber cement siding, and replace all existing gutters and downspouts. This job was particularly complex due to the style of the house and the multitude of "Tudor style" architectural designs that needed to be maintained and replicated with the James Hardi fiber cement boards. This was also a challenge because the previous trim boards were all rough sawn cedar and the stucco panels and lap siding were vintage 1979 Masonite. The quality of the work performed by Sunshine Contracting was outstanding, and yes, we would contract with them again if we had to do it all over again. Their professional siding craftsmen had experience in re-siding Tudor Style homes and were able to replicate all of the intricate carpentry previously done in the rough sawn cedar with the James Hardi fiber cement board. Any concerns or issues that we raised, were immediately addressed by the team and corrected. The Project Manager and Team Leads were always there and available to us, and answered all of our questions. The whole crew was very professional and friendly, and they did a great job cleaning up after every working day. Sunshine Contracting has now taken us from a home that required outside maintenance on a regular basis, to one that is essentially maintenance free! Apparently there are jobs too small for this company. Don't bother with this company unless you are prepared to provide them we a significant financial incentive. They said they were too busy to deal with our job; therefore, I'd recommend trying abother contractor. A contractor that isn't prepared to handle increased work makes one question business acumen. They may well be good at what they do, hard to tell this day in age with stuffing the reviews and giving large jobs a deal for a good review. So far, I have been a bit disappointed. I went with Sunshine Contracting because they did my hardiplank siding a few years back and I was extremely satisfied with everything, from project manager, crew and the results. The results were extraordinary and to this day, I just marvel at the appearance and work of the siding. I gave that 5 stars. This time around I got them to install windows. I picked the windows out Andersen 400 series white on the interior, canvas on the exterior. The project manager said that "lansing ivory" for capping the outside of the window/windowsill would be the matching color for the Andersen exterior canvas. I ordered these windows in December 2020 and they have yet to be installed. They came in and they were the wrong measurements so had to be reordered. I was told it was the factory mistake. I don't have an issue with this as things sometimes do go wrong and I do understand this issue during the pandemic. They caulked and nailed my old window back up. They did proceed with capping the other windows. I received a call that they didn't carry "lansing ivory" coil for wrapping anymore, so they replaced it with "parchment". Half of the windows have been capped, the others they will cap when the windows come in. I already had one Andersen window and a backdoor with the canvas capping, so when it's all finished I just hope it doesn't stand out that there are 2 different capping colors on the windows. They blend but are different, but I keep looking at them and it bothers me. I should be totally happy, right?? The contract states "lansing ivory". When I had my siding installed the project manager came by to check on the progress and communicate with the crew and me. The small crew for the windows had to speak with me and then I had to communicate with the office and be a go between. A manager should have come out to see the capping on my other windows. Such a disappointing experience. Wish there was a way to give no stars. Not professional at all. Along with having unskilled staff they bring their girlfriends to the job site (our house). You cannot rely on them or expect them to do even satisfactory work.
