Good service until you require additional service. They installed gutter guards and exterior vent covers with a recommendation to not cover the dryer vent. We have a bird building a nest (no eggs) in the drying vent now. Inquired about removing the bird nest and installing a vent cover. Was told the job is too small. I would say these guys have really great salesmen without the teams to execute and back up the work that is promised. They are very broad/lacking in detail of how they write their proposals, but unfortunately I felt my hands were tied because of how hard it is to even get contractors to show up to do an initial quote in this area. I also went weeks waiting on their sales guy to respond to my email with questions and he never would put anything in writing and just kept leaving me voicemails. Eventually I opted out of some of their services (e.g., $2K just to paint a railing) but moved forward with the masonry work. I paid over $5K for exterior brick work on the front porch and garage area of my home where they replaced only a few cracked bricks and then re-mortared only around where they did replacements. After the initial pass, they had done a terrible job. I took photos (I'll attach a few here but there were many more) of where they'd left huge gaps and cracks, mismatched the mortar, and just smeared mortar all over the place unevenly. They also left my newly painted metal railing with tons of mortar debris all over it and trampled a bunch of my plants in the mulch beds. To their credit, the project manager did address my concern quickly and agree the work was not up to par and scheduled a team to come back out again. On the second visit, their team wanted me to go around and put painter's tape on every little crack with them, which I found quite annoying. #1 I had sent photos, and #2, how can a person not just A) look and see where there are cracks and B) just do the WHOLE job as promised, not just tiny sections to cut corners. I was made to believe by their salesman that the whole lower area of my home would get washed up and have the old eroded mortar gone looking like new, but they are the type of company that seems to want to piecemeal everything and only do a little bit of the job. So on the second visit, they did address my major concerns and replaced a few more bricks and did much cleaner and better matching mortar lines, but honestly there are still a lot of places that with the naked eye you can see have eroded mortar or cracking where the mortar meets the brick that you would think they would have addressed. I did not feel at all like $5K+ worth of work was done over the one day or even the second day they were back to fix their mess combined, and I did not come away with a new looking facade as expected. I think Exterior Medics needs to do a better job of having their sales people really hear what the customer is expecting, communicating the full extent of what the final product will look like, and delivering value, and especially on bringing in qualified teams to get the job done right the first time because this was straight up amateur hour until I had them come back out. read more

Workers were good and worked hard, but Project/production manager and customer care were pretty shady. Exterior Medics replaced a decent amount of trim on our house with PVC and firmed up a loose gutter 40+ feet up. They did a good job but didn't finish a few places and managed to leave a decent amount of screws/nails/metal in the driveway. See pics for examples. When we raised our concerns and sent photos, we figured we'd resolve it quickly and wrap it up. Instead, the project manager made the estimator come out and provide an unreasonable new estimate for completion of the remaining areas - maybe knowing we'd never agree? What really disappointed us was that there was no real discussion. It was just "go tell them not covered by contract." We figure they ran out of time and moved on to other jobs. The contract required them to use magnets to pull any leftover screws/nails from the site, but that sure didn't happen. We paid them and will ultimately pay someone else to finish the job. I scheduled an estimate with a technician, who came out and inspected my roof. We had a friendly conversation and I expected an estimate and a call to discuss. The call never happened and I never received an estimate despite following up several times with no feedback from the technician. The service was poor and this company does not value your time, which leaves questions about the quality of their work. Stay away! read more

The company's response to my review is nonsensical. The rot in the wall wasn't new. It had obviously begun not long after they left the job judging by the extensive nature of it. It had been there for along time, continued to spread throught entire wall and only recently broke through the wall...it wasn't something new. I resided my house with Hardy plank, and chose exterior medics because they were Hardy certified. Although they weren't the cheapest I chose them because Hardy recommended them on their website. The work crew spoke limited English and the project manager wouldn't answer his phone or return my calls. I had to drive to the company in Springfield, VA just to get to talk to someone. Problems were, siding in my flower beds, garbage piles in my driveway, trucks parked erratically to the point where I couldn't pull in or out of my driveway. This was corrected after my visit, but the workmanship was not what I would expect from a Hardy certified installer. read more

What a disappointment. The salesman Ben made us think we were in good hands. He was extremely thorough, climbed onto our roof, took detailed pictures, Zoom-met with us with a detailed presentation, etc. He seemed knowledgable and was very friendly. We trusted him and went with the company. Part of the dilemma for our roof was that he said we didn't have good ventilation in our attic. That if we went with an asphalt roof he would have to put an attic fan in there. I was opposed to a fan and said well if we upgrade insulation do we need a fan? And he said no, we wouldn't. I asked if the insulators should meet with the roofers to make sure the plan worked for everyone. He brushed that off (should have been a red flag) and said that no, insulators do their thing after roofers are done. Fast forward, we do a full new roof with them, with architectural shingles. (side note, as much as I wanted to do recycled roofing, the cost was prohibitive, and we liked the hurricane/wind rating on the architectural shingles). What's absolutely crazy about this is, for all the communication leading up to the roof install, after we signed the contract we didn't hear from them for a while. When we checked in they said it was taking a while to get the particular color of shingles we wanted. Ok fine, we'll wait we said. Then we are in Chicago on a vacation seeing family. You can imagine our surprise when we see (thanks to our Ring camera) roofers just showing up at our house with no notice. I check my phone and looks like there were several missed calls just 30 min prior, with fairly aggressive voicemail to "answer the phone." This was Ryan, the completely incompetent guy whose picture on the website should tell you everything-- he looks like he's still asleep. Anyway we call them back and they say they're just dropping stuff off at the house and will be putting our roof on the next day. Uh, what? My husband said no, we would like to be present to help oversee the work. They gave us issue with that and said they could only do it that week, and now the materials they dropped off might get wet with a rainstorm predicted. Well wtf.. So we agreed to let them install the roof while we were out of town. Ryan promised he would send us pictures throughout the installation. He never did. When we came back to town a few days later, you can imagine our shock to see how obviously unprofessionally they left everything. Nails all over our driveway. We are lucky we didn't get a flat tire. See pics. Debris everywhere. (And this might be correlation versus causality, but very strange that we came back to two dead goldfish in our outdoor pond. we suspect debris fell in there and they choked to death). Check out the pictures. Downspouts unconnected, apron flashing not flush, warped and asymmetrically placed roof shingles. I died. (p.s. one thing I made very clear to Ben was that any aesthetic decisions had to be made with me. Apparently they didn't think that ugly black apron flashing was something to check with me. I wanted a paler color that would blend in. Similar issue with the downspouts, I was never consulted on color there either, tho these might be more standard.) The worst part of this? When the insulators came the first thing they asked was Why the F didn't your roofers put a ridge vent into your roof? Not being a roofing expert, I said, well they never even mentioned a vent at all, not at any point. They said maybe we put a fan in, that's it, depending on insulation. The insulators were aghast and said, no no, a fan would never be enough to deal with your ventilation problem. It's standard practice to do ridge vents, since you have soffits /intake and you need something to vent out. I brought this up to Ben, and he said well now if we put ridge vents in, we would have to charge you more on this project as we'll need to cut through the new roof we just put in. But ultimately he couldn't give us a straight answer on whether or not we needed a ridge vent, and why he never brought this up during the bid process. He very bizarrely deflected saying that our roof never had a ridge vent (yeah well standards change) and that a lot of roofers don't know how to do them right. Well, ok, Ben, but do you guys? I am so frustrated by the fact that we till spent about 30K on a new roof, and somehow it felt like an investment we're not sure about. The 30K new roof that should have a ridge vent, or shouldn't it? I don't know? The only reason they get a star is the gutters are improved, and they came back once to smooth out the shingles and clean up their mess. Overall though very frustrated that we probably needed a ventilation system put in, and we don't have one. Somehow we were made to feel punished for not installing a fan, which again, other pros said would not have been enough. If you're a roofing professional, give your customers the best please. Try better. And Ryan drink some coffee and take a communications class. read more

Warning: Do not use Exterior Medics for any projects! We contacted Exterior Medics to replace our front door, screen door, pediment, header and pilasters. We signed a contract and gave them a deposit in December 2022. We were told our project would be completed in March 2023. I contacted EM in April 2023 to find out what happened. Unfortunately, the project manager assigned to the job quit and they forgot about our project. At this point I wanted to cancel and get my deposit back. The salesman reassured me everything would be ordered and the work would be done within a month. They finally scheduled the appointment in July 2023. When the team showed up, I was informed the pilasters were damaged and they would have to reorder them. I asked to inspect all the other parts, but I was told "no", I could inspect them after the installation. I should've known better. Unfortunately, EM ordered the wrong color trim and no header for my pediment. I was furious, it looked horrible! The PM and salesman came out to inspect and I was told it would be fixed. Fast forward, they fixed it by putting up 2 by 4 to fix the problem, this is not what we order and it looks terrible. We have missing pieces and no date for installation. Here we are in October 2023 and I am still waiting for them to fix and finish the job. The project manager has quit and I'm assigned a new one. EM came out again, unfortunately this time all the parts ordered were the incorrect size or color. I now have to go through the whole process of ordering and waiting months for the parts to come in. I believe EM is inexperienced in work when it comes to this type of project. I have reached out multiple times to the owners of the company, they don't return my calls and I have no date when the project will be completed. Do not use this company, they are awful. read more

First of all it took well over a week for me get an appointment for a rep to come over. That has never happened to me with other companies when I requested services but Exterior Medics had recently put in new siding at our house and did a fine job. When the rep finally arrived I explained that we had some leakage in the transom over the French doors leading out to the deck. After a quick perusal he told me the entire unit should be replaced at a cost of $10,000. I immediately balked and he then said he'd talk to one of his crews and see what could be done. I realized, of course, that he didn't want to tackle a small job like mine yet he verified my email and said he would be in touch. Several days passed without any contact with him. I was the one who had to call the office and ask what was going on. Finally that afternoon he called back and said he couldn't find anyone who would tackle the job. I asked if he could recommend a local company who did small jobs and he flatly told me "no". It was then that I hung up on him. Yes, that was rude, but his dismissive attitude toward me was infuriating. The strange thing is that we had apparently worked with this guy before since he knew a detail of our family history that we had shared with him. On my own I contacted a local company who came out that very afternoon, surveyed the problem, sent me a proposal in 24 hrs and I accepted it at a minute fraction of the cost quoted to me by Exterior Medics. read more

However, as I already posted in the update below, the owner already reached out to us and said it is what it is. Update: One of the owners reached out to us. He said "wanted to do right by us," and his definition of that was to offer his personal assistance and guidance when it came to selecting a new roof through his company at full replacement cost. We told him thanks, but no thanks. Posted this on NextDoor, which garnered a bit of attention, and just wanted to share what happened in case anyone wanted to use this company. Our home wasn't the only home in our neighborhood affected by this- three other homes in our row with roofs from Exterior Medics have this issue. We moved into our home, located in Reston, in October 2022. Since then, we've lost shingles here and there during stronger winds. Two weeks ago, we had a roofing guy from another company come and check the house out to provide an estimate for replacing the lost shingles. He told us our entire roof was shot and needed to be replaced because the shingles were barely being held to the home. We didn't know what to believe, so we reached out to our insurance company, as we assumed the damage must have been from some weather issue. The contractor for our insurance company concluded that this was an improper installation issue due to how it was nailed and that the shingles itself were the incorrect size. Basically, everything about the installation was wrong. After digging more into the history of the house with neighbors/previous homeowners, we learned that Exterior Medics, the company who installed the roof back in 2010ish, used the wrong type of nails during the installation. Since cedar roofs needed to be treated yearly, the nails used couldn't hold up to the chemicals and as a result, the nails corroded over time which is why it appeared the shingles were barely being held onto the rooftop. The manner in which it was installed by Exterior Medics has led to the shingles itself rotting, as well the baseboard underneath. The Exterior Medics policy is that the warranty only applies to the original consumer/purchaser. Unfortunately that wasn't us, and now we have to completely replace our cedar roof even though it's just barely passed a third of its expected life (supposed to be 30+ years for cedar roofs). Exterior Medics is not contractually obligated to do anything for us. We only hoped they would do right by us, because warranty or not, it was completely installed wrong since the beginning. However, the managers have been unwilling to speak to us at all and our roof is proof of the quality of work that Exterior Medics stands by. This is just a warning to any of the homeowners out there who had their roof installed by Exterior Medics, particularly if it was installed around that time era, to double check everything with a third party and make sure the installation was done correctly. It took about 10 years of the chemicals slowly breaking down the nails that led to the shingles falling off. read more

While the quality of the work was ultimately satisfactory, the road there was not. It took four months to complete a job that should've taken a weekend. To correct an interior leak, they misdiagnosed the problem and recommended a VERY costly fix. The fix was ultimately unnecessary, but Exterior Medics will not work with me in accepting some of the financial cost of the misdiagnosis. I'm now being asked to pay 5 figures for a job that, had it been diagnosed correctly, would've cost about $1000. read more

I worked with Yong to get an estimate to replace an exterior section of brick veneer with a window. They ran into unexpected problems and additional damage once the Team tore down the wall but they gave me options, and I switched to siding instead of real brick. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome and how it looks. I would use them again, and I hope we can strike a good deal on a new roof when I'm ready. read more

We have 6-8 exterior projects to do so I contacted Exterior Medics thinking we could sole source all the work, but the customer service was awful and the salesman didn't seem to know much about exterior work and was unable to answer basic questions. (The overall) More detail: A salesman came and walked our house w us and listened to our concerns. He went back and met with the production team and returned a week later to review the proposal. The proposal only included a cost for 1 of the projects. When we asked about the others he said he didn't price them because he didn't know how much we wanted to do. I'm not sure how he expected us to decide without a budget. I said that even if not a full estimate, if he just provided budget numbers for each scope we could decide and fine tune from there. No problem, he would go back and review with production and send us a full proposal. 2 months and multiple follow ups (2 calls and 2-3 emails) I've received no proposal, no return call, nothing. The initial proposal hasn't even been sent to us, only discussed and shown on a computer screen. Also, our salesman didn't seem very knowledgeable and unable to answer simple questions about their proposed remedy. We have a roof leak which stems from vents. He said they would need to cut holes in our roof to trace the vents. Not sure how making more holes in the roof would help, especially since if you go in the attic you can see the roof penetrations and trace them. This is the only scope he provided a cost for. We also have fascia boards above our foundation which have a gap behind them. He said they aren't sure the board is exterior and would replace it. I asked about size and he said they would use the same EXACT size. I asked if it would be installed in the same location or set back - he indicated he same. When I asked how this would solve the gap issue and even drew it he couldn't answer, just said it wouldn't be a problem anymore. Finally, he had concern with support posts on our deck. He said he wasn't sure the posts were on footings because he couldn't see them and maybe there was a structural issue. Our home is 2 years old, the deck was inspected by Fairfax County. I'm not sure why he would think there are no footings just because there are small rocks and he couldn't readily see them. read more

Today, the salesperson came to my house for the third time (after I got three separate phone calls from someone else) asking me if I liked the work they did. I wish they were this attentive when I needed help with my house. It's kind of creepy having someone wait outside your house for a while during the day. At the recommendation of a friend, we hired Exterior Medics to remove and replace our existing gutters. The estimator came out on time, did an assessment, and listened to our needs to adjust the standard gutter work they do. The workers appeared on time and had the entire job finished in a single day. Everyone was polite, and other than a stray nail, the property was left as clean as it started. The gutters appear to be working beautifully after about 6 weeks in use through some heavy spring rainstorms. Payment was easy and uncomplicated. The contract they use is a pretty rigid with some indemnification clauses I don't like. They refused to negotiate on any point of the contract. I would use this company again. Don't know the quality of work, this was just based on turn around time for a quote. It took a month to get a quote back by that time we already went with someone else. Most roofers have is a quote on site. They came out looked at it and had to go back to the office and wait for the following weeks meeting before they could think of giving one. So we went with a different company One of the senior workers of the company did provide a phone call to me explaining that this is not how they do business and apologized for the delay. Exterior Medics should have been my first phone call. I had a water leak issue with the exterior of my home. Another contractor came out and wasn't able to figure out the problem. Chris from EM came out for an assessment and was very thorough, getting on the roof and checking the attic to determine where the problem could be coming from. After reviewing the photos with his team, a plan was presented via Zoom which we agreed upon. Tony, the Project Manager, kept me informed with scheduling and throughout the entire process. Javier completed the work in the same day, even though it was dark by the time it was done due to the early sunset this time of year. Requested estimate to replace 1 sq ft of stone veneer (2 pieces) that fell off the lower corner of my chimney. They broke off nice and clean so they were going simply put them back where they were. Was excited to have them do the work as they have great reviews and their previous work portfolio seemed like their work was in line with the level of home we have. To put a piece of lath and put them back on was quoted at $980!!!! It felt like they have a different price list for higher value homes than regular customers as that quote was double any estimate I have ever received from other master masons to do the work. While detail is good in a contract, the level of detail was a bit too much (essentially every single step in the process -"Work the units with slight lateral motion while applying pressure to improve bonding") was a bit too much a seemed to be a ploy to make the quote 'worth more' if there are more words in the contract. They may have experienced masons, but it felt like I was being ripped off so I did not hire them. Not a good first impression. read more

Unfortunately we are nearing the 3 week mark since we requested a quote. It was promised multiple times very early on and it was promised again. I cannot imagine the predicament this company could put you through if there was some kind of delay in doing the work or completing it if they cannot even get a simple quote back. Other businesses of similar size either produce a high quality quote within 48 hours or others have given quick estimates on the spot. After wasting an hour+ calling, going through the work we needed, and following up 3+ times for the quote, I cannot recommend this business. I hired them to put in two new windows and a fascia board. I had 2 holes in the attic. When they tore off the fascia board they claimed a need a new soft board which is the board that is under the fascia. They asked for another 1300. They claimed also prior to installation that my original gutter had spikes and wouldn't go back in easily and should get the screw version. I felt the sales man was aggressive and assured me the fascia board was the issue. When it was replaced there is now a very very long 1-2 inch ago of daylight seeping through. I dont know if the board they put in was wide enough but they claim its normal even though I have been in many attics and never saw daylight seeping through. They say they cant have the fascia board touch the attic ceiling because it would warp if it contracts and condenses. I dont understand why it needs so much of a gap. I dont believe them. But they also scratched up my brand new wooden floor of two months by not wearing plastic shoe covers and dragging small pebbles and dirt into my home scratching the new stairs. If you hire them, I suggest having cameras on them. They just leave when they are done and do not show u what they did. I had other jobs like replacing almost a dozen windows but I dont think I may use them again. I heard the construction business does very well which may be one of the issues why they dont care how well they do a job since there are plenty of clients. I wish I put in the floor AFTER they fixed other stuff first. read more

I decided to do it myself. It took two half days to complete and I spend less than $350 for all the materials. The same materials that EM was going to use. Also today I saw some of their workmen attempting to fix a dented canopy in Rosslyn. What a mess they made of it. read more

Exterior Medics' quote was considerably less expensive, and Ron, who came out to give us the estimate, was incredibly helpful and responsive (I texted him a few times afterwards). This review is limited to an encounter with an estimator for Exterior Medics and how this company took advantage of my next door neighbor. My husband and I live in a semi-detached house that shares a chimney. Our next door neighbor, a naïve first-time home owner, contracted with Exterior Medics to replace the roof and refurbish the chimney. The new home owner thought it would be nice if the chimney we shared with her property was completely refurbished. So, she gave us the estimator's phone number and we made the call. My husband, a retired general contractor, spoke with the estimator regarding the work that needed to be done on our side of the chimney. The quote we were given was over priced and we said no thanks. Additionally, Exterior Medics persuaded our neighbor, at an extra cost, to install a metal divider on the roof, to guarantee the warranty for the roof replacement. After the work on her home was completed, she consulted with a reputable roofing company about the work done on her home, and she found out that she didn't need the divider installed. This reviewer suggests that anyone using this contractor for home improvement work, get a complete written estimate from Exterior Medics. Regarding the metal divider issue, check out your local government's building code before signing on the dotted line. read more

After my review and tons of emails,my husband gave in and contracted Home Exterior to do our siding. Heck, I guess he also was tired of dealing with quotes. The work is done... very happy with the results. Crew that came to the house was very good, respectful and helpful, although messy (destroyed my patio), they blame it on the rain I blame it on absence of care:(. Anyway, even though the whole process was a pain (getting them to come to the house, quote, start of the project and the length it took from start to finish) we are happy with the work they've done. I recommend HE to hire more people as they seemed to be understaff and to hire a project manager to be in top of things ,organized and have knowledge of the project. Over the past year I have been getting various things done around the VA homestead. One thing that I had resisted for 17 years was the installation of a "storm door." In Florida I call them "screen doors" even when they are not screen. Well, I gave in and had a very nice storm door installed by a fantastic company right in my neck of the woods. My neighbor had previously used them, so I felt good about the reference. I called up the store and asked for a representative to come out and give me a price and installation quote. We quickly set a date and they showed up just like they said they would. The representative was very professional and came prepared to answer any questions that I had regarding a warranty. The door was ordered. Once it arrived, I was scheduled for the install. The install was great. Another appointment kept and on time. The representative did exactly what was promised. My door looks amazing. I now get a lot of sunlight AND I actually have my door open so that it looks like I do live here. LOL. And to top it all off, the owners followed up with me and sent out a "swag" box. Very nice and suitable for regifting (which is what I do). Thanks for all the quick responses to my questions during the process from placing the order to ensuring that the installation was done to my satisfaction. Exterior Medics has been fantastic in every way. We had a smell coming from somewhere in our office we couldn't quite identify. Some days were worse than others. Exterior Medics quickly diagnosed the problem as mold in our windows. Yuck! They worked with our office condo management company to fix the problem, which was incredibly helpful. They dealt directly with the management company, taking the hassle off of us during our busiest season of the year. EM is highly customer-focused and easy to work with.
