Sunshine sandwich shop is an example of do one thing and do it right. They are a sandwich shop. Not claiming to be anything more and deliver on that premise. Quality sandwiches - no fuss no frill but good solid food. I tried the Casanova a perfectly pounded crispy cutlet with fresh motz, tomato, pesto and balsamic drizzle. He chose the McCartney a breakfast sandwich with layers of pork roll egg and cheese - not just slapped on a bun. Seasoned eggs layered with meat egg and cheese. Order at the counter and if you choose to eat in one of the smiling staff will bring it to you when ready. They have a few booths for you to sit and eat as well as colorful tables outside too, but I get the idea this is more of a grab and go joint. Decorated in retro grunge decor complete with a stack of old console televisions and orange booth seats the place has a whole vibe. They also have an assortment of items for purchase like handmade soaps and beauty concoctions, stickers, hot sauces, honeys, teas and the like. There are plenty of other sandwiches we want to try so we will be back for sure several times over the summer to devour them all. Check it out.

First time here - I had no idea what to expect. The menu was simple enough to follow but also had different variations of sandwiches which I liked. My long roll came out at a decent size. The woman cashier was very sweet and brought my order to me when it was ready. It ended up being a delicious sandwich but I made the mistake of assuming it would have anything more than just bacon egg and cheese on it. Next time I would buy one of the packets of Hot Honey that they sell or add fried onions to spruce it up a bit. I had a great experience and would go back though.

One of the best cheesesteaks in Philly! I am from DC but was visiting family, so I found this spot and I'm glad I did. The vibe is cool, and everyone was friendly and helpful. I ordered The Paulie (their cheesesteak) and a Carmine (a spicy Italian sub). Both subs were phenomenal, but I liked The Paulie more (adding onions recommended). The bread was fresh and toasty and all of the meat was well made and generously portioned.

Immediately upon placing the order for a $16 cheesesteak I had a little buyers remorse that I was about to drop close to twenty bucks on a take out sandwich. I thought to myself that this has to be the BEST cheesesteak I've ever eaten to justify this price...spoiler alert...IT WAS! This place gets a little clout because it's affiliated with Lucky's last chance and their food has always been excellent, never wavering in quality. The affiliation also drew me into the cheesesteak because I remember on National Cheesesteak day Lucky's would add on to their menu for that day only. I remember the Luckys sandwich being great but not the best ever. Something about this version compared to the Lucky's one elevated it. The garlic butter is not overpowering. It's somehow subtle enough to notice but drastically enhances the sandwich. Normally I prefer a soft roll but the description says it's toasted roll. The toasting was barely noticeable but worked well overall. When taking the first bite it was like the moment you bite into a hot chocolate lava cake where you brain just goes berserk knowing something wonderful is happening. It's not an every day sandwich but is definitely something that can be enjoyed on a special occasion.

Lucky's strikes again with another hit... this time on a long roll! Tucked away as part of Luckys Trading Company, Sunshine Sandwich Shop operates for lunch and the weekends. You'll get a meaty sandwich whipped up in no time. By meaty, I mean the sandwich comes out heavy - like get a little workout heavy. I've had one on menu sandwich (the Carmine) and one off menu special. Loved them both and will be back for more. While most get orders for take out, there is a bit of space to eat in. Service is from the best of Lucky's staff and top notch. I had a slight issue with my order and they quickly took ownership and corrected with a full new sandwich. Crazy good service imo. Enjoy my new lunch spot as much as I do!

The Paulie reminds me of Angelo's Pizza cheesesteak, but the bread is not as toasted (very fluffy) which I don't prefer as much.

It was packed - only a few tables were available at 12:30 on a Friday afternoon. We were immediately seated and looked over the menu. We decided to share a 1/2 Pastrami sandwich ( you can order 1/2 a sandwich ), 1/2 a Corned Beef sandwich, an order of Potato Latkes and we each had a small bowl of Chicken Matzo Ball soup. The soup was delicious - it was a little bowl with tiny shreds of carrots and chicken. The broth tasted very good, however, the matzo ball was a 'little' different. They were light and fluffy - but there was no texture or flavor at all....none. I would have thought the matzo balls would have absorbed some of the flavor from the soup, but it didn't. I finished the soup, but left the matzo ball. My partner likes pastrami over corned beef - she says it's a more 'peppery' flavor. While I probably prefer corned beef over pastrami because it's a leaner cut, my 'baseline' for pastrami is Katz's (NYC). I'm sure Katz's has great corned beef, but I've only had pastrami there - it's the best I've had. I thought my Corned Beef sandwich was excellent - it was lean, tender and very tasty. I squeeze out a little mound of mustard on my plate and dip. My partner thought her Pastrami sandwich was very good - it was also quite lean. I took a few bites of the pastrami, I thought my corned beef was tastier and had more texture. It almost seemed like they sliced the pastrami too thin. She liked her pastrami more than my corned beef - I suppose it's all a matter of individual taste. The Potato Latkes were delicious - especially with the applesauce! They were a little thicker than I might have preferred, possibly from either potato starch or matzo meal. However, there was a very nice potato taste and the thicker texture was fine. Of course, on the way out I saw a large selection of pasties and had to try a few! I got a few of the Rugelach and a Poppy Hamantash. The Rugelach were a disappointment - the interiors of all were very thick and doughy. I ate some of the exterior layers.....and left the rest. The Poppy Hamantash, on the other hand was one of the best I've had. It was by far the largest one I've ever had! As a result, there wasn't enough Mohn (poppy filling) for such a large pastry! The filling was very good as was the cookie (it was like 1/2 scone and 1/2 cookie)! Overall, Hymie's exceeded my expectations and I'll look forward to returning.

Even the two servers were like "I'm gonna order that for lunch." The fried goat cheese balls were perfect! I wish a couple more were included in the salad but it included five. The grilled cheese had a mix of variety cheeses, including farmers and a couple more that I cannot name. There was also a bit of arugula in the sandwich, which was a very nice refreshing crunch.
