This was an economical stay in the area, but you get what you pay for. Good: It was clean, location was good, had coffee in room. Bad: Non-working outlets on bedside lamp. When we asked for another lamp they said didn't have one. They should have extra things like these for guests when things break, this was annoying. The walls are thin; both nights we were bothered by the tv next door. The other annoying thing was no ice in the morning we checked out. Really, before 8am no ice? Ice is important for travelers. I used my accumulated Wyndham rewards points to book a night here, checking out the next day pretty much completely satisfied. I was in-town attending the opening night concert (artist: Steel Pulse) of the 2025 Monterey County Fair. Most folks recognize the Super 8 brand as budget lodging, this smallish property not an exception; but it's favorably located steps away from the Monterey Co. Fairgrounds. For this reason alone, the property's a winning choice considering the benefit of free guest parking and for not having to arrange transport to any events at the fairgrounds. Also favorably, you can typically park your car just outside your room door, or very close to it. Then, it's any easy 3-5 min. walk to the main entrance of the fairgrounds. Check in was a snap and the young desk lady was cheery & helpful. The smell of Curry spice simmering around dinner time permeated the property lol, so if you're a foodie, it may make you hungry, idk? (The owners/managers of the property live onsite). They've got mostly double beds here and a smaller # of rooms featuring double queens. I opted for the double queen set up, not fond of the double bed as I'm a larger dude. The rooms feature coffee, microwave, fridge, body wash + shampoo dispensers in the shower and a considerable cable TV line up. Comfy beds & adequate sheets. Most of the windows on this single level property with the exception of the bathroom sliders appear to be locked for security. Probably a good thing. As it wouldn't be terribly difficult for unauthorized street passerby to enter rooms otherwise. The shower heads have flow restrictors, meaning you have to extend your shower time a little to disperse with the soap. There's a barely-there "breakfast" each morning of packaged granola bars & coffee inside the reception lobby. And a Pepsi & ice machine just outside the office (ice free for guests). You could also hear the noise from the water pipes and the natural ambience of street activity surrounding the fairgrounds. The area is a direct flyover from jets coming & going from nearby Monterey Regional Airport at all hours. Overall, it was a successful stay with nary much to fault them on. The hospitality of staff tipped this review from a solid 4 to 5 stars for me. Good job Super 8 Monterey! We stayed here for 3 days and checked out Sunday. Received a call from the hotel at 2:00 pm advising that the tv in our room was smashed and there was apparently a fight in our room. We let them know it worked the night before and was definitely not smashed. Whoever called us hung up. We were still in the area so drove back to the hotel. This is a motel with decent rooms and good location. It seems to be cheaper than the motels around it and that is for a reason. The management is terribly terribly rude. If you just need a place to crash for the night and don't mind being scolded by some angry management folks, go for it :) I am usually a big believer in 'you get what you pay for' motto but I thought basic human decency comes by default and you don't have to pay for it. Basic management rule at every hotel I have ever been to: If the guest's room is not ready at the check-in time, apologize for the inconvenience and give them a time estimate for when the room will be ready. These folks failed even at that. When I asked, when my room was going to be ready, the gentleman at the management desk asked me 'what do you want me to do? I can give you a refund and you can find somewhere else". This is a very unethical threat coming from a manager who knows at that point I cannot really take his refund offer. Basically, they know that the area has high demand so they have no motivation to improve their subpar level because they will fill the rooms anyway. The funniest (also pathetic) part of my interaction with them was the chalkboard they have in the office. I am never coming back here. The people who run this place is ridiculous. I usually use Choice Hotels establishments (i.e. Quality Inn, Roadway Inn, specifically the ones on the same street) but wanted to see how others are so I looked at stays through Wyndham. I think if I come back to Monterey again, I will stick with Choice Hotels and never using Wyndham again. I booked a room on the Wyndham Rewards app (first time using it) around 6:38am, for a 2 bed queen suite. I later checked again, around noon, because I wanted to confirm my stay. My reservation was changed. I didn't get any notifications or calls about the change. So I then called them to check and the lady, Vin (I think that was her name), said that they already gave away the room at 7am (coincidence?). She also accused me of lying because I apparently only entered 1 person. But I didn't, and she was the one who changed my reservation in the first place. She also willingly gave me a cancellation number confirmation. She also stated that they are not associated with the Wyndham app. When you walk into the front desk, the Wyndham Rewards poster is there. My party and I arrived after 2pm and checked in. We got room 100 which is right next to their room/office. We unloaded and was heading back out and then I saw an older lady who came out of the room next to ours, 101. She looked too old to be traveling and was in pajamas. I assumed it was their family. The following morning, it was confirmed. Some lady dropped off their kid, and was blocking us in. Vin was there and she took the little girl and they headed to room 101 and opened the door. I understand you have family, but it is a business establishment. Great service! Arrived late Friday night and was greeted with a smile from the lady at the front desk. Checking in was a breeze and she was very pleasant during the transaction. Once she gave me the room key I proceeded to my room. I was very content at how clean the room was, how comfortable the beds were and how close to Carmel we were (which is where I needed to be the next morning). As a business traveler, I stay in many hotels, my expense account has no limitations, I choose to get accommodations as if I was paying with my own money, my company is good to me. The reservation was made through a third party, I asked for a hotel under $100 dollars, when they sent me the reservation, I was a bit concerned, Super 8 motel is not exactly what I had in mind. When I arrived, I met the Indian owner and there was a distinct odor in the office, I almost left, but instead I asked to see the room, room looked fine an I decided to stay. First of all, the place was very quiet, no paper thin walls, cable service and TV worked great. The heater and plumbing worked great, good toilet paper. For the price, it's definitely a bargain and I'll definitely stay here again. Also, I love Denny's, and the restaurant is directly across the road The couple that own the hotel are very friendly. I recommend this place if a couple is driving through and needed a place to rest for the night. Nice location and close to restaurants. Didn't have the free breakfast offered, Black Bear Dinner has the best breakfast and price down the street. Comfortable rooms nothing fancy but clean. Beds were clean and comfortable, fresh towels daily even though we hung them back up as the card requested. Free WiFi and TV had many channels. Owner was very friendly and gracious. She gave us tips on where to go to the aquarium and best time. Was concerned about the noise after reading other reviews but I did not find it noisy at all. Surprisingly, for a motel, my stay here was good. I had a good night's rest waaaay better than my stay over at the Knights Inn at Carmel Hill. (I only had 5 hours of sleep. x( See that review here: link ) I was actually able to sleep here, & it helped a lot that this building is only 1 story so I don't have to hear people walking around upstairs like how the Knights Inn motel is in Carmel. Parking was plenty. Check-in was a breeze. Harem at the front desk was courteous. The first room (#107) that I walked in smelled funny (like urine!). So I went back to ask Harem if we could switch rooms because of the weird odor. Harem let us switch rooms, & Room 106 was good with no weird odor. Cable TV: Channel changing was somewhat slow. Didn't have my glasses on so wasn't until I went to smother it on did I realize it was hair conditioner! Breakfast was Ok if you just want something to get you going. Great Location - Stayed here for a music festival at the nearby fairgrounds. The staff was wonderful, clean rooms, fresh free am coffee and breakfast items. Wifi and cable was good. We've been coming to this area for over 20 years. We chose this motel because it's affiliated with Wyndham and I wanted to earn points with my Wyndham Rewards. We normally stay in Pacific Grove. We had room 105 and it was extremely clean and modern. Bed is very very comfy. Good hot water. Great location and price. Office staff is very friendly too. The only draw back, it's a stuffy room (it's June and warm here) and even with the wall A/C on high cool it doesn't blow very hard and the air is not cool, no fans available at the office either. We ended up going to Target to buy a fan. Oh also the WiFi is a little weak. read more

This hotel had the number one most scary check-in process I have had in my 60 years of staying in motels. I am going to guess the owners is just scared to death by the Covid-19 crisis rather than assume this is how they always treat guests. They are understandably using the night window to keep distance from the guests, BUT the owners face is completely obscured and they just bark orders from the other side of the glass. "You don't have any pets do you?!!" "Credit card and ID!!" It reminded me of crossing the border into East Berlin in 1980, except that was a more human experience in that I could actually "see" the person barking orders at me. I went to my room thinking I had just checked into the Bates Motel without any opportunity to cancel and find another motel. Then I walked into the room..... and.... well it was very pleasant. What a surprise. The bed grunts every time we move but at least it is clean and soft. The room is just fine..... Actually this place is a 2.5 only because it needs to be remodeled. The rooms are really dark but clean. Typical of an older place. The bathroom was remodeled and is clean to and is definitely the highlight. Beds were too soft, pillows super thin, and the TV was new ... if you were in the "70"s! The staff was friendly and cordial. Breakfast was definitely continental style which was available in the lobby. Unfortunately the lobby was about 10 x 6 and could accommodate 5 people. The worst stay in my life. You only get Super 8 by the name. Nothing about this place feels like a super 8. It's no different than a motel 6 or a shady inn. No ammenities. THE AUDACITY, to come at us with some bs excuse with nothing to back it up with, then to assume we don't understand what he's saying??! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. On August 1, 2020 I had gone to motel Super 8 Monterey, I had arrived around 3:30pm for check in with my minor daughter when the lady at the front desk greeted us with unpleasant customer service. I had gone into the office with my daughter checked in and received the card key to our room. My daughter and I immediately left as we had to be somewhere else and came back to the hotel around 8pm. At that moment I had inspected our room and the room was not clean (shower had grime/dirt on the wall by shower head, hairs on toilet seat, towels and shower) and bedding was missing so I called the front desk. I had briefly gone over my concerns surrounding the room when the lady at the front desk began getting aggressive with me as I was asking questions. I noticed that my conversation with this woman was getting nowhere regardless of how calm I was speaking to her, I too work in customer service, I eventually asked the woman for her name. At that moment she asked me why I wanted to know her name and that she was not giving it to me as I had no reason to get her name down. This woman was extremely rude even when i reassured her i was not wanting to argue but rather reach common ground with her, she did not care as she continued to speak over me, stating that she was not being rude and that i have no reason to be upset with her. She eventually said that she had a "customer in the office" and had to get off the phone with me. She hung up immediately. I had collected my items and took my daughter down to the lobby/office because i was not staying there. When I let her know that I was not happy with the way she had been speaking to me she began insulting my daughter who is four years old. I let the woman speak as I did not want to argue in front of my daughter, after she finished I let her know that I did not feel comfortable staying at a motel with such poor customer service. My daughter and I had left the room once I had seen the poor condition of the room (took pictures).I then went down to the office and the woman continued her rant on how she was not being rude, and that I was misunderstanding her. I eventually asked the woman (she appeared to be an elderly Indian woman) that I'd like to speak to the manager as I saw a sign in the office stating that the manger on duty was Haney (unsure of spelling) she denied my request to speak to the "on duty" manager because she stated that he had just had surgery and needed to be laying down not coming to the front desk. I am honestly surprised how this business is still up an running with such poor management, and it is gives Whyndham a poor reputation being that super 8 is affiliated with them. Please do your self a favor and spend your hard earned money on a hotel with staff that have proper decency. read more

An older couple was very short anti-social never smiling and seemed to be that instead of treating us a guest, felt like they were treating us a burden. My husband requested for an additional pillow and instead of delivering the pillow to our room, the older lady says "if you want your pillow go get it in the lobby!!!". In December of 2015, I traveled from my home in North Carolina to Monterey for my daughter's graduation from The Presidio. I booked a room at this hotel, online, for a week's stay; honestly, mostly choosing it for the most competitive price & closeness to the base. In my almost 40 years, I've had plenty of occasions to stay at different hotels, motels, etc for both business & family trips. Initially, I was a little hesitant to book a room here because their rates seemed kind of low & typically you find that's due to being in a poor location or whatnot. This is very much NOT true for this particular Super 8. Monterey isn't the most metropolitan area, but is still a fair size & having never traveled to the West Coast, I didn't know what to expect in terms of the friendliness, professionalism & cleanliness of this business & I was very impressed! The owners/franchisee at this location were WONDERFUL people! Knowing that I wasn't local, they were great about helping with dining/entertainment suggestions, shopping in town as I was there without a personal vehicle & even offered knowledge/personal experience at the different places that my daughter and I traveled to while I was visiting. She is active duty & being stationed 2,500+ miles away from home, this trip was a very important one in terms of being able to spend good, quality time with her before she proceeded to her next duty station. The owners made certain that she & I had a safe, clean & very comfortable place in which to spend this time. The hotel is within walking distance of quite a few shops, restaurants, etc & if it wasn't within walking distance, there is a local bus stop just a few doors up. The owners were even great about making sure I knew which bus line would take me to the correct places. These days, it's sometimes hard to find honest, kind & trustworthy people; the owners here very much impressed me with all of the above. And that 'cheap' rate that I was concerned with? There was no need for the concern, because they offered what others were looking three times as much for & delivered as such. The booking included free continental breakfast that was more than sufficient, wifi that worked great & clean, safe & comfortable room to stay. Their only drawback that i could find was that they didn't have a pool. If I ever have to travel to the area again, I'll definitely be booking with them. read more

If I could give this place "0" stars I would! We booked through Priceline and chose this motel because it was described as family friendly and Priceline reported it was pet friendly. In us taking our 20 pound Westie-poo that part was a must. So my husband checked us in and were given the key. We were literally at the point of stepping into the room when a motel staff (an Indian women who I believe may be the owner) came rushing at us (my husband, myself, 3 year old daughter and our dog) demanding that we not go into the room, that dogs were not allowed and we needed to go back to the office. The woman and another staff (possibly her husband) continue to yell as we walked in and as I tried to show her my reservation that specifically said pet friendly. She yelled over me and said that contract stated no pets. Which we did not realize until this interaction. It was clearly an issue between Priceline and the motel but the motel took no responsibility and said we couldn't stay and we needed to contact Priceline directly to get reimbursed. We have never felt so offended in our entire lives. The woman treated myself and our family as if we stole or lied from them, even we tried to explain that we believed we were checking into a pet friendly hotel and further did not provoke such hostility. The woman wouldn't listen told us and rudely told us go to a"super 6" next door, while her employee apologized continuously to us. We had to contact Priceline for our money back, look for a much nicer place to stay and try to get over how offended we had become when we had not provoked this interaction. I'd rather spend the extra money then be disrespected like this again. Our trip was almost ruined for something that even with the error in the hotel not being pet friendly, could have just as easily being more understood and corrected with some respect and manners. read more
