Super Antojitos has been one of my favorite traditional-style Mexican restaurants for over 15 years. While the menu will be familiar to anyone with even a cursory experience with area Mexican eateries, the quality seems -- and tastes -- better than most. I'm a vegetarian, so I cannot speak to the meat offerings, but the chile rellano, cheese enchilada, vegetarian burrito (try their specialty wet burritos), even the rice, frijoles, and chips & salsa are a cut above the norm. I often get the Chile rellano - cheese enchilada combo with beans and rice (Combo #5), and three out of five times, the rellanos are sublimely succulent (and still good the other times). Prices are reasonable, service is fast and friendly, the atmosphere is casual, seating is spacious, and the large flat screens perpetually show football (soccer). Beer is served, and their flan -- though I've avoided it in recent years to cut calories -- was excellent last time I ordered it. There's a special events room in the back where parties are held, on which occasions lively dance music, laughter, and shouts of general merriment overflow into the dining area and pervade the place with a festive mood. read more

Very good food, awesome chip salsa. Can't say much about the place waiter was nice. Way too much TV. Very loud T v's football games not a sports fan so probably wouldn't go back if all the T v's are blaring whether it's sport or shows. It'd been a while since hubby and I came to dine here. But we just happened to be in the neighborhood so we decided to stop by and relive our pleasant memories. Not much had changed since we used to come here regularly about 2 or 3 years ago. The staff was the same for the most part. We came in, seated ourselves and waited for someone to come help us out. Unfortunately, we got someone from whom we got the distinct impression wasn't a fan of us. I don't know why...we are nice, friendly people who know our Mexican food from years of eating it and preparing it at home. He was very slow in taking our order and looked like he couldn't wait to leave our table. We wanted to order about 4-5 items but after two items, he kept turning to leave and I would have to say "Wait, sorry, we also wanted the......". It became quite frustrating! He also never brought what we asked for (more chips, a drink refill, napkins) which resulted in us flagging down someone friendlier and more responsive. The food had somewhat changed. The large shrimp cocktail ('coctel') is now served in a bowl with about an inch of the white-ish water covering the shrimp - it looked like a soup. I wish we could have dumped some out because it was bland as it is. Again, we had to flag our server down for ketchup which I thought was kind of automatically provided when you have coctel. It took A LOT of ketchup, hot sauce and salt to make the dish taste like anything. The plus side was that it had a ton of large avocado chunks in it. I ordered the menudo and for whatever reason, that took 15 minutes more after hubby received his coctel and tacos for me to get. People who came in way after we did were getting their cooked dishes and there I was...left wanting! I was just about to flag someone down to ask about it when it was finally presented to me. The menudo turned out to be as I remembered it but unfortunately, I think we have since a few years ago, found a better version closer to our house. All in all, it was a disappointing return to our old haunt. From what I've been told, this really isn't the best place to go. It's just got an extensive menu that satisfies everyone's tastebuds. OC is know for some of the best Mexican food and this is held true by Super A's. Visited Super A's on a week day evening and to my surprise it was quite busy. The staff was friendly and provided a great service as everyone was taken care of moments after been seated and the food was punctual and delicious. I had the chicken mole taquitos and they were exceptional. The ones who accompanied me were also satisfied with the food they received. Unfortunately one of the drawback of the restaurant is the ambiance, the restaurant is over all dark and the chairs sank in. For comparison I am 6 foot and the table ended up being at my chest. Final thoughts are great for food but I was not comfortable in the restaurant. read more

I've missed GOOD Mexican food since I moved to OC from SD. - Burrito de camaron a la diabla (one of their famous wet burritos. Definitely try this if you like shrimp. It's so good!) - Chicken enchiladas plate (comes with rice and beans. It's my friends fav thing to order there and he gets it every time.) - TACOS! I loved the carne (beef) tacos. The meat was flavorful and really tender. The carintas (pulled pork) was just okay. I've had better, but this wasn't bad. Note: when you sit down they bring you a basked of freshly fried chips and spicy salsa. That's the life! This place taught me to not judge a restaurant by its looks. We come here often and it's always outstanding. Have yet to have a bad thing. I do have to highlight their customer service today though because of how sweet everyone that works there is! I ordered food to take home and was waiting in my car. After about 10 minutes, I was just getting out to see if it was ready and he came rushing out to bring me my food to my car to make sure the churros didn't go cold!!!! Half of it had huge chunks of fat, while the other half had too many large stale and greasy clumps. And for around $12, sides were too small and it came with no guacamole. Tacos have just average flavor here, overpriced on any day besides taco Tuesday. I don't care for their salsas. And the dining room is dingy and dirty. A cockroach ran down the wall next to our booth. The workers are doing the bare minimum here, service comes with an attitude, and do not seem to care much for outsiders. A group my friends and I came in here for food and drinks, after unfortunately having to go to a funeral for a friend of ours. We walked in and we're greeted by a super nice gentleman at the front desk wearing a dodgers face mask(go dodgers!) he was really nice, he could tell we were all really sad, most of us were still crying. After taking our order, he went to the bar to make our drinks and made probably the best margarita I've ever had!and it's THIRTY TWO OUNCES FOR 13 DOLLARS, THATS AMAZING, and trust me, it had a lot of tequila in it, not just sour mix. Once we finished our drinks, and our food was ready we decided to eat at home, and I'm telling you the chorizo bacon breakfast burrito is the best in Costa Mesa, hands down. We came to have dinner on a Cinco de Mayo night. Today obviously every Mexican restaurant is super busy; however, the service here was awful! It took 40mins from the time we placed the order before we got our food. We had to get up n tell our waiter to check on our orders. It had been sitting under the warmer light while they waited for my sons fries. Which came over cooked and some burned. Also when we first sat down and the waiter brought the salsa and chips. We asked him for a mild salsa, which took him about 20 minutes to get us. When we asked for another glass of water, we had to remind the waiter after about 10 minutes. That's just ridiculous. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! The food after it came was good. But after that horrible wait, we didn't even enjoy it! Found this place on Yelp after going to the Pet Fair in Costa Mesa last weekend. Saw it was 5 minutes from the fairground and seemed popular so I gave it a try. Lots of parking and easy to get to. Very good selection of items. I read that their burritos are popular so my wife ordered the mole burrito with chicken and I had the Diablo burrito that stuffed with shrimp and had some healthy heat to wet my taste buds. The chips included with the order were fresh, crunchy, & tasty. They gave us red & green salsa that were pretty hot but tasty. I added a Mexican Coke (with REALsugar) to complete the order and proceeded to drive home with my stash. The food was very good and fairly priced. Wow. I was blown away with the service here. Our server was celio. He was very nice and polite and very attentative. The food was good with enough seasoning and well done.
