The name on the outside is Las Salsas but name on receipt is Mariscos Hector. Either way, the husband loves their grilled fish tacos. I love their Carnita tacos. We get them to go with a side order of their refried beans, which are so good. They have a great little salsa bar with this creamy green avocado salsa which is so good on the fish tacos. They also have something I've never seen before in a salsa bar, which are medium slices of fried/cooked potatoes-they're really good and an unexpected extra. Their prices are very reasonable and the portions are very filling. Since we get our food to go, can't speak to the portions of plated food or dine in service. Came by and got a tray of tacos and it was fantastic. We got asada, pastor, and carnitas. The meats are mixed with some onions and cilantro. My favorite was the asada. The pastor has a kick to it. The carnitas are pretty plain and a bit dry. They also gave us a bag of fresh chips with red salsa, green salsa, and a green cream sauce. They have 99 cent tacos on Tuesday's. Service was good and they seem to be popular. I haven't tried the other items but the tacos were great and I definitely recommend them! They have parking available in a small lot. read more

My friend recommended me this place saying they have good ceviche. I ordered through Grubhub and was able to pick up right away. We ordered two kinds of ceviche and some tacos. Everything was well packaged and clean. The order also comes with some really tasty fresh tortilla chips. The ceviche we ordered were De Aguachile and Tostada Mixta Trio of Ceviche. The seafood tasted fresh and full of flavorful. The tacos were great too! They have a lot of different kind of salsa. We took our meal to eat at the beach and had a very relax social distancing dinner. I'm surprise that this place doesn't have more reviews since their food were really good. food was okay. but that's about it. placed an order online through their own website. 2 birria tacos, a cabesa taco, and a consome de res. figured i could dip my birria tacos in the consome and then eat the consome tomorrow for lunch. get to the restaurant a few minutes after the time it said the order would be ready. despite the restaurant having confirmed my order, the ticket was still attached to the register with 3 or 4 others. the lady at the register had an "uh oh" face and said they were finishing it up and it would be 5 more minutes. then she told me they didn't have birria. i opted for carnitas instead, and despite the price difference (birria having been a few dollars more expensive) there was no refund of the difference. whatever, it's not that big of a deal. what was a big deal is the 5 minutes came and went. then 10. then 15. 33 minutes later, as i was about to ask to just cancel my order and refund me, my food was finally ready. i get home and start to eat. the tacos were relatively okay. not bad, not great. just whatever. however, the consome de res was... definitely not consome de res. it appeared (and tasted) like they boiled some water and then quickly tossed in some boned with a little bit of chewy beef still on them, some carrots, some lettuce, some cilantro, some potatoes, a small piece of corn on the cob, and some oil. the broth literally tasted like water and had no flavor at all. the meat that was on the bone was chewy and sparse. the corn was still mostly raw and tough. whatever this was had obviously been thrown together super quick and probably what ended up taking 33 minutes. if you want to go here, expect your order to be wrong, missing stuff, or not made. read more

A split second went by when I completely forgot the world went insane but thankfully Yelp brought me back to fake reality. Mariscos Hector is an authentic hole in the wall Mexican joint in Costa Mesa where Mexicans actually eat. Hard to find here and it gets harder the further south you go in OC. Taco Tuesday is legit. Street tacos for a dollar in the chicken, carne, or carnitas variety. They're delicious and not plain like most other californianized Mexican joints down here. Marinated and seasoned properly. They also have the real shit that scares the gringos away namely head and tongue. Oh yeah. I'll be honest I've never tried those. Not cus I don't think they'll taste good but I have a lot of random food reactions and I have no clue how my tongue would react to another species' tongue. Their fish tacos are good but probably not worth the four dollar price tag. Shrimp is five bucks yikes. They can do chorizo tacos if you ask. Mm chorizo. Went to Hectors for first time for lunch . I rarely go past Adam's on Fairview but tried Frank's Philadelphia a couple of days ago and had pupusa from El Curtido yesterday both places were great, so I decide to give Hector's a try. Located in same shopping center as El Curtido. Got our table got a soda looked at menu. Waitress brought over chips beans and salsa. We looked over menu picked something I thought would be quick and easy. I had chicken tacos Dorado with guacamole my associate potato tacos. Place not busy at all. Girl came back twice to confirm if I wanted chicken or potato and if with guac and rice and beans. Said chicken with guac no rice and beans. Sounds simple time starts ticking 10 minutes turn to 20 then 30 and finally got our food. Again not busy and people after us got their food first. Worst of all she never came by to see if we'd like another drink or more chips. Food finally came out it was good but not good enough to wait 30 minutes for something that takes about 5 minutes to cook. Won't be back. read more

Hector's has changed over the last year or so. Not just the significant price increases but the quality of food has really deteriorated too. We order fish entrees but the last 2 times this year, the fish is not the same. Doesn't look the same or taste the same. Price went up and the quality of the fish went down. Also, we normally order a couple of carne asada burritos that now cost $10.99 each. Well, I was able to find the rice and beans but it took me a while to find any carne asada. Again the price went up and the quality of the food went down. We will no longer buy food from Mariscos Hector after 7 or 8 years. The front counter staff is wonderful but this isn't a good enough reason for me to continue to pay high prices for inferior Mexican food. So sad ....... read more

We had takeout from here. I've been struggling to find a local ceviche place; the closest one that we really like is in the city of Orange. This place actually TOPS the other! We have only had their ceviche de pescado and it was AMAZING. Me and my kids are ceviche snobs, too. It has to be super fresh and lime-y, with just the right amount of pico de gallo. Was PERFECT! They need LIL more work in customer service. The food is great. Been here twice and both times they have told us they can only give you certain amount of sauce. If they need to charge more for the sauce they should give the option to ppl. Not just say NO we can not give you more sauce.
