I have so many complaints about this place.........jk Let's start with number 1 The food is so damn fantastic! I've been here two times and both times I've ordered the Caldo de Res and boy are they the best! I gave some to my mom and literally said, "where the f*** did you get this because it's so delicious!" Literally words from a Mexican mother. Second The wet burritos are so damn wet. How wet you say? So freaking wet that my mind exploded! I got the barbacoa wet burrito in red salsa...... To die for! Third The tacos are pretty awesome. I ordered them in carnitas and barbacoa. Soooooo goooood! Sorry for all the 1 star reviews complaining about the tacos. This place was really gross. The beer was cheap and the food was graded right underneath IHOP on the taste level for me. I had huevos rancheros.. It was fine. Bland and basic. The tables were dirty, the walls, the floors, the menus. It was a total pit. The employees looked like working there was absolute torture. Sweating their butts off. This place needs some cleaning products and air conditioning. Or more windows. There's no sign that says wait to be seated, or seat yourself, so you just walk in and stand there until you decide what to do. But aside from that the service was polite. Place was packed, expected it to be on since it was Sunday and when theres a soccer game going on. It was a 15-20 min wait but we were ok with it but they offered us the bar area and it was only two of us so we took it so we didn't have to wait which was cool. This review is for 06/25/2011. As Major Charles Emerson Winchester III once said, "Where I have a father, you have a dad." You'll need to watch the M*A*S*H episode to understand. After eight months, I finally get to see my dad. I haven't seen him since October 2010 and his busy schedule always conflicted with mine. June 25th is his birthday and dedicated to my dad. We had a lot of catching up to do and I decided to treat him out at Super Antojitos in Costa Mesa. I am not familiar with the Costa Mesa area, but my dad lives around the area. It is located next to the Shell Gas Station and Taka Sushi on Baker and Fairfew. From what my dad tells me, this restaurant does get packed during the weekdays, especially for lunch. We walked in around 11:30 and the interior of the place looked more of a 50's diner than a Mexican Restaurant. There were booths that seemed to belong to Johnny Rocket's but there were a lot of decorations that you would see at a Mexican Restaurant. Plus, soccer game was playing adding more energy to the restaurant. My dad and I were seated a booth with the leather ripping apart. Our waiter came by and gave us salsa, chips, and beans with cheese. He gave us our menu with all of their specialties on it. However, I did notice something that was missing...Chimichangas. I am not sure why I like it so much now. They have a special Chimichanga that I verbally requested and it was probably on the secret menu. FREAKING SWEET.!! I forgot what my dad had. I got too involved talking with him since I haven't seen him in years. The wait for the food was about 10-15 minutes. We caught up and more people started to come in. My chimichanga came and it was massive. A deep fried burrito with guacamole and sour cream. I this!! I was in a spicy mood and threw a quarter of the Tapatio Hot Sauce on it and started eating it. It was so delicious that the hot sauce may have ruined my appetite. I finished 3/4 of it and gave up. My word it was amazing. Unfortunately, I don't have a price even though I was the one who paid for the meal. This was a gift anyways to my dad even though he gave me money for my birthday. It was great to see my fath...dad after many months. However, I won't see him again for another couple of months. It was nice to see him once in a while. Had to try this place out since I moved nearby, and I missed Taco Tuesday with the group the last time they were here. Went for the wet burrito since I enjoy this fare and many people yelped it. Seemed like a good test subject. Love me some food experimenting. Had a chili verde carne asada burrito. Tortilla tasted great. Chili verde was spicy enough to open the sinuses. I appreciate this. The staff did not even blink when I ordered water to drink; I see this as very professional. Not trying to be cheap, I simply do not like drinking syrupy chemicals. Although the manager stopped by at the end of my meal to help bus the table (managers still do this?) and made a joke about "No tequila today?" This was near noon on a Sunday morning. :D I liked that. Service was excellent. Prompt, smiles, my meal was out in less than five minutes. This was a busy lunch hour as well. I have spent my time in the service industry and a little effort here will earn a nice tip from me. Table chips were nothing to write home about. The only thing I found greatly lacking was the table salsa. Watery, no substance to it. I realize there is a cost savings reality (meal was super reasonable, no pun intended!) but a little effort here might go a long way. Chilaquiles Verde con Huevos... OMG how I adore thee. I LOVE chilaquiles. It has been VERY hard to find a place who does them correctly besides me making them at home, or making the trek out to East LA or Boyle Heights. Let me tell you... these chilaquiles are legit! The green sauce is perfect in flavor and temperature. It's not too tart but just tart enough and the sauce is warm, but not too hot so as to make the chips soggy. That is one of my pet peeves. Chilaquiles are not supposed to be soggy! They are still supposed to be crunchy and have some bite to them. I ordered mine with two eggs scrambled and rice and beans. They also provide you with crema and a small mound of onions and cilantro which is the perfect counterpoint to the green sauce. It adds the texture and added punch to the chilaquiles that they need. It is exactly like how I make them at home, but wayyy better! I really can't judge the place on anything else because I've only been there once and only tried this dish, but just based on this dish i would go back there every week and order this dish every single time. I practically live here sometimes. Eaten here days in a row at times. This is real Mexican home cooked, fast delivery on your table, ooey masses of goodness with super FAB crazy low prices. The staff are dolls and one guy is especially a comedian. Eat family style sometimes so you can taste EVERYTHING! Their seafood is delish and fresh! There's the shrimp tostada that is AMAZING! It's a tostada layered with what tastes like mayo, then fresh little shrimp with onions, cilantro and more. Add the lime juice and you're good to go. Very very filling. If you're a light to medium eater, this will fill you up by itself. Course you'll probably be hungry in an hour. They have a deep fried (key word...oily so don't order if you're sensitive) tilapia that is so yum. Ask for the ranchero sauce on the side. There's also a seafood soup that's HUGE. Scallops, mussels, oysters?, fish and skinny crab legs (don't expect much out of these). The broth is sooo sooo good! Warms you right up. If you like lengua (tongue meat), it's extremely tender, melt in your mouth stuff. I'm not a big fan of their enchiladas because I don't like the flavoring of sauce they use. The chicken is chicken. The carne asada is just right. You like horchata? Make sure to get it here. The beans and rice ROCK! Also, if you're anal retentive clean freak, you're at the wrong place. I'm going to be completely honest but their dishes aren't the most clean sometimes. Lip stains on cups, food that belonged one or more persons before. on my first visit, friend and I tried a wet asada burrito with red sauce and carnitas plate. both were greatly sized so obviously we had plenty for another meal. before going, many reviews complained that the carnitas had too much fat but clearly, these reviews are wrong. there was fat but that's what carnitas are for!! the plate had a moundful of carnitas, yummy rice and beans, and a little salad/greens. wet burrito was a little too salty for me but once again, also a great big portion. i wish the burrito also had rice and beans but thats ok! second visit was for taco tuesday. they serve $1.40 tacos (asada, carnitas, al pastor, chile verde, and two more im forgetting), $2 tecate, and $3 margaritas. tried one of each tacos and they're regular sized street tacos with generous meat. all tacos were delicious!! i ordered a margarita that never made it to the table but when the check came, it wasn't charged so i'm sure our waiter too notice. service is friendly, fast and efficient. we sat at the restaurant side both times but there is a more bar-style side and the first time they had loud music playing - perhaps i'll make a pre-game stop one of these days! read more

[Pause for reflection of the tequila bliss.] The service is great through-out the meal (unlike some places where, after delivering your food, the wait-person disappears into waiter/waitress land.) Ooh, you can get HOT salsa instead of regular... (I'm sweating just from thinking about it.) If you like hot, but not too hot, blend it with the ample amount of regular salsa that they provide. The salsa is served in a pitcher which you have to pour yourself, I really like this because I run out of salsa less often. The food was very quality and cooked to order. I used to come here after school during my days at Costa Mesa High School. I remember the food being so tasty from back in the day. Fast forward to now and it didn't quite taste as good as I remembered. First off, when you walk in it's hard to tell if you seat yourself or if someone has to seat you. So you're kinda just standing there until someone either acknowledges you or you just walk over and sit down. The restaurant itself has seen better days. The booth chairs are kinda tattered and the tables have a certain stickiness to them. I ordered the enchilada that came with beans and rice and my food was good. However, it tasted like anything you can get anywhere else. My bf ordered a margarita and it was pretty watered down. It was a huge margarita so you probably have to drink it pretty quickly so hopefully you're not driving very far. If I'm in the area I'd go here but I wouldn't drive here if I was farther out. read more

The guacamole was fresh and better than most places in oc. The carne asada tacos were great and made with quality. My daughter enjoyed her kids meal. The only downside is that the place is understaffed for the size of the restaurant. There were only 2 servers running the entire show...they were even bussing the tables. This is THE spot for authentic mexican dinning. I live pretty far away (San Francisco) so I don't get to go here that often anymore but I was once a regular. The Burrito de camaron a la diabla is my favorite. Anything "wet" is also on point. If it's Sunday morning, I always order a bowl of Menuda - yum! If it's a late dinner I order the Lengua ranchera or in Salsa verde, or if I am super hungry the combination plate with chile relleno and tacos. If you go, ask to be waited by David. He makes this places a 5 stars. He earns his tip and then some. My cup of water is always full and my tortilla chips are always refilled! He proves that you can find great service and quality food at an affordable restaurant. BTW David is an amateur comedian so be prepared for a few laughs through dinner. This place has grown on me over the years. I like other places better but find myself here more than at any other single Mexican restaurant. That's because their food is good and reasonably priced. Their service is fast and friendly (but not obnoxiously so i.e. Hi, my name is Jorge and I will be your server today. Can I start you out with beverages and appetizers). The chips are good, I love the salsa and they serve lengua, which is the closest I can come to cabeza in this area. Today I saw our server bring out 2 huge bowls (seriously, huge!) heaped up over the brim with food. I asked about it and he said that it was their seafood stew, 7 Mares. You can see and taste the burnt tomatoes, which add so much to the flavor.Carne Asada burritos are delicious (FYI- they put cheese on them) as are the bean & cheese ones with red sauce topping. Staff is very friendly with excellent service and they play sports on the TVs at night. Sometimes have $2 can beer specials (normally Tecate). Extremely quick take out orders (like five minutes or less), so make sure you give them a nice tip on to go orders. A real classic place...Via le Super Antojitos! read more

Not impressed at all. I really wonder who the people are that allowed this restaurant to achieve a 4 star rating.... The chips and salsa are ok although I prefer fresh salsa as opposed to one that's made from chilis that have been roasted to death. The carne asada marinade had way too much lime and the enchilada sauce we requested on our wet burrito wasn't very good. The taco came in a shell from a box rather than a homemade shell. Although, I will say that I did enjoy the chili relleno. One of my biggest complaints is the noise level. We went on a Saturday night and apparently there was some kind of family party in the bar (or private room, I'm not sure exactly which type it was). The music and yelling were bad enough but then children from the party started running full speed into the restaurant area and yelling at the top of their lungs as they did. Neither the staff, nor the family did anything about it. Plus the staff kept making a crashing noise about every 10-15 mins. I'm not sure if they were dumping bottles or what it was, as it was behind a partition, but it sounded as if a ton of glass shattered each time.
