As a long time baseball fan, I've travelled to over 20 different major and minor league stadiums across the country.  While there are great food items in each park, my favorite dessert are the churros in San Jose!  Why?  Because they are freshly made soon after you purchase them, if not right on the spot.  In addition, they are a steal at only $4 each!  On busy days, the line can get pretty long, so I usually get them early in the game and buy several of them to savor throughout the game. These churros are so popular, the San Jose Giants become the San Jose Churros several times a year, with the team wearing special jerseys those games.  Be warned: these are the busiest times at the churro stand. Also, they only take cash, so be prepared. The rest of the stadium is cashless. (Hot tip:  if you go to a major sporting event, many of the snacks are premade and just kept heated in the stand.  Definitely not fresh.) read more

Quite possibly the best part of going to a SJ Giants game. The churros that Super Churro Man sells out of his charming plastic tupperware container are so yummy! The sight of Super Churro Man in the stands is exciting. And then he comes closer and closer to your section and you have your $5 ready so you can buy 2 churros. But then, just as quickly as he appeared...he disappears back into the tunnel. He has run out of churros and has to restock at the churro cart in the tunnel. So you can actually buy the same churros he sells from that cart, if you get tired of waiting. And don't wait until the 9th inning to get some because Super Churro Man will be gone and the cart will have closed. Get two of them as soon as you get into the stadium. Eat those two while you are in the long line for bbq at Turkey Mike's. Then after you eat your meal from Turkey Mike's, buy two more to eat while sitting and watching the game. Calling these the best churros in the world might be hyperbole. Few people have tried all the churros in the world to make such a statement. I, certainly, have not. However, these are the best churros I've ever had. They are fat. They are super crispy and crumbly on the outside (and that's before the cinnamon sugar), almost custardy on the inside. And that's not custardy in a raw dough way, but in a 'that's on purpose; it's why they're awesome' way. If the only churros you've ever had are the Disneyland / Costco ones, you may want to avoid these, just so you can still enjoy those churros in the off-season without thinking they're utter crap. The ballpark is quiet....it's about the 7th or 8th inning. The sky is dark and the sounds of baseball are clearly heard, when someone shouts, "DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?" The crowded is bewildered and shaken, but they look down to see the warm smile of the Super Churro Man of the San Jose Giants minor league affiliate of the SF Giants. This is an absolute "must have". Warm, sweet with cinnamon and I'll admit they even go with beer! Super Churro Man is a fixture at San Jose Municipal stadium and there aren't many of these guys left in baseball! Not just a churro man, but the super churro man! From homemade churros to the ones at an amusement park, none can even come close to the amazingness of these churros. This guy can be found making his churros in a little shack behind the bleachers on the SJ Giants bull pen side and serving them from a plastic storage bin. Not only are the churros warm, crispy yet soft and overall amazing, but they are super cheap with 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. These churros were pretty damn close to awesome! They were 1 for 3 dollars and 2 for 5. My friend got some for our whole group and man do I wish I had bought an entire one for myself. These are the most AMAZING churros. Perfectly crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, covered in cinnamon sugar and OMG I need one right now. Luckily you can find them after 10 am Sunday Spanish mass at St. Josephs's Basilica, so you don't have to wait till baseball season!!!
