They were taking orders at the counter and via one kiosk (the other was down), so the wait wasn't bad. The drink menu has a lot of Americanized options. Combining matcha with strawberry or yuzu isn't something you see in Japan. I tried the Honey Matcha Latte to get a purer matcha taste, but the honey flavor was a bit too strong and masked the matcha. I have been to Izumi matcha over ten times at this point and remember first trying it in their original location in the silver creek area of San Jose before the matcha boom. Prior this place was unique and delicious, and really hit a spot. I believe that now with the various matcha spots around, it may not have as much as of unique selling point. Their tornado matcha is good and sweet, and is a great dessert however in my personal opinion, their traditional drinks are not standouts. Last week I went with a friend and ordered a matcha oat latte with a double shot, and while I tasted the matcha, it was grainy and didn't really have any depth. I wouldn't say I would avoid going here, for a matcha option and to get caffeinated for the day. It is still an option but I feel like it wouldn't be fair to say it's worth driving over 30+ minutes here. As a note too, this location can get extremely busy in terms of parking! The plaza is popping with heavy hitters. Service was fine as they do the self service kiosk with pick up being less than 5 minutes (no big lines), and the store itself is small with no seating outside but plenty of plaza seating outside. read more

My friend and I both got our treats minutes after we ordered. There is no indoor seating but there are plenty of benches outdoors. The interior is minimally decorated, and I noticed a wall full of gorgeous, handmade pottery. The treats here were so tasty! My friend tried a Classic Honey Matcha Latte, which she stated had a deep matcha flavor. I tried the matcha and black sesame soft serve. I'm not even a huge black sesame fan, but this black sesame flavor was addicting. It was nutty, creamy, and probably the best black sesame taste I've ever had. It wasn't a really strong black sesame flavor (which might be why I liked it so much). The subtlety in flavor helped with the richness of the soft serve. The matcha soft serve was equally delicious, a vivid green color. It once again wasn't super in-your-face with the matcha taste, so if you like a stronger flavor, this may not be your favorite soft serve.
