Food 5/5 - I'm glad I found this hidden gem. Pupusas ricas with loroco (salad) were good ! So, for those of you who didn't know what a pupusa is, it is kind of like a deep fried quesadilla pancake that has beans, cheese and whatever choice of meat you would like. I usually get 2 plain beans and cheese, small but very fierce filling pupusas. They are also inexpensive too. My daughter loves the chicken tenders and French fries which is her favorite type of food. Service 5/5 - The waiter is very polite and makes sure your needs are met. My food came out very fast. Place is very clean and 1980s Back to the Future nostalgia--vibe in here. Pro tip: get their freshly squeezed OJ. The BEST! The WCS service is super quick and the staff's very friendly. This place has a Cheesecake Factory menu - you can get literally anything.. from breakfast classics to pupusas. Service was friendly albeit a bit slow. But we enjoyed the food! Pupusas are delicious but I wasn't a fan of the curtido here. It's very very fresh and I prefer a slightly more pickled version. Always wanted to try this place. Never had time before any movies next door. Today we had an hour before movie started. Very convenient before going in to watch. Such a varied choices in the menu from breakfast, lunch to dinner (8pm) Friendly staff and attentive to making sure our water glasses were always full. However I wish they gave ice with the water. We craved for burgers so we had a bacon burger and mushroom burger. Cut in half to share each other. I preferred the bacon burger. A little but more flavorful than the mushroom. I wonder if they would allow a mushroom burger with bacon as one sandwich. Next time I'll have to ask if possible. Time varies throughout the week so make sure you check their days of operation. Great diner food. Came here for a late brunch and was surprised by the variety of food choices. I ordered corn beef hash breakfast which came with eggs, hash browns, toast, and corn beef. Very delicious meal and big servings. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros which came with tortillas topped with sauce, eggs, beans, and avocado. He devoured his whole meal and loved every bite. Coffee was fresh and hot. I like the small details like having hot sauces and ketchup at each table. They even give you your own creamer and sugar. Service is very friendly. We tried the bean and cheese pupusa, the vegetarian burger (the patty was fantastic!), and the French toast. The food was good across the board. An added bonus is the free parking in the garage right next door, making it super convenient. The staff is friendly and polite. However, on our second visit the service was slower, and the food took a bit longer to arrive. I think this place is a gem and the people that work there are very friendly. I am really into old school diners and I immediately got a good feeling once I walked inside. They have booths and a bar overlooking the kitchen where there is seating too. Great place to grab a cup of coffee, some greasy diner food, and/or a plate of fries (which is what my kids wanted). I can see how it can get busy on the weekends. I liked that the menu had a lot to choose from and I decided to be healthy and got the vegetarian omelette. The omelette was quite large and came with a side of crispy hash browns and two slices of toast with butter. It was so big I wasn't able to finish it and brought it home to eat later. I came in stressed, sweaty, and desperate but came out refreshed and optimistic. The staff are so nice and friendly, I felt like I was walking into a friend's home. This is why I love mom and pop shops. Onto the food, I ordered two tacos: chicken and beef. They're 4 dollars each (standard for bay area), but came with tons of meat so I was pretty satisfied. The quality of the meat was pretty food and it was pretty tender, especially the chicken. Now, these aren't the best tacos I've ever had but they were the tacos I needed and I appreciate it so much. If this spot started making a larger variety of tacos I can definitely see myself traveling here specifically for it because it's such a convenient spot. The pluses: - Free parking in nearby garage - Great choices on menu - Super friendly waitress who was SO HAPPY; all the staff seemed very happy actually, which is always a good sign - Cafe is SUPER clean - Portions are just right - Extra butter offered with the toast - Coffee is strong Not bad, but...: - Counter stools are awkward and stiff. Some are stuck facing a specific direction and there's no foot bar to twist yourself around so if you have short legs like me, you just dangle there. I was able to find a chair that naturally faced forward though. - There is a TV over the counter that was broadcasting daytime TV talk shows and news. It was hard to ignore, and the cable was choppy so it was kind of annoying but I had my headphones and just popped up an audiobook as I ate. All in all, I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. Very intrigued by the pupusas that they offer. And you can't argue the parking. There were also a lot of regulars that the waitress knew the name of - repeat business another very good sign. They also offer lunch and dinner and have specials. I was coming here for a club sandwich which costs about $20 and the last few times I've been in to purchase they give me 2 slices of bread turkey and slap on some veggies. Came here with my good friends and their mom today. A very grommy weather and cold outside, seems like we are the only customers with one or two other tables. A very good place to get together with friends or family. This is a quiet place and the service was wonderful especially the morning shift was a woman waitstaff she was very friendly and attentive even say bye to us until next person take over. As for the food, we ordered the special for today Grilled chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes, spettgeti and meat balls, Egg Benedict, Turkey club sandwich and French Toast. Westlake Coffee Shop has always been my go to weekdays or even weekends. It's a coffee shop that provides an amazing and tasty selection of food and feels very retro in some ways. It's location was originally at the Westlake shopping center but moved near the Century Theaters which I would say is a plus. I take my parents here every-time we go watch a movie at Century Theaters and food never disappoints. The servers are always diligent and ready to help you with any questions and concerns. The feeling of the overall cafe I'd say is retro but it also feels good to support and eat local. With the selection of IHOP down the block it's sometimes hard to choose whether to choose a homey vibe or big corporate choice. Westlake Coffee shop is always #1 for its food, service and just quality overall. Westlake Coffee Shop is indeed one of those places that's underrated but also deserves much more from locals. I ordered through the phone, 2 plates of breakfast right when they opened. When I got there, I Asked for a side of sauce and said thank you, she just walked away with no response, no big deal, maybe not a morning person. But when we were ready to eat our breakfast when I got home from picking it up, both orders were wrong. Not a big deal, mistakes happen. When I called in to tell them that, they told me to bring it in for them to check, without an apology. Kinda rude, but still tolerable. When I got there, they greeted me with "what happened?" I was still calm, and told them about the situation. They grabbed the 2 boxes back and showed the kitchen and asked them, "what happened?". Still no apology to me for giving me the wrong order and having me drive all the way back there to show them. Then after physically seeing from their eyes that my order was actually wrong, they started cooking my order, which took another 15-20 minutes. At this point I'm already pissed. They offered me no apology and no compensation for me driving back and forth. That's not how you run a business. That's not even the end of it. I saw the guy take a look at the "correct order" so I didn't bother to double check it, I just wanted to leave. So as I was leaving the guy said a soft "sorry", (not even the lady who took my order to begin with). But when I got home, they still got 1 of the orders wrong and gave me potatoes instead of hash browns. The worst part is that the food is not even that good.
