Nice location. Business is well positioned on the corner. Never had an issue locating parking, usually right outside the business on the street but they have a small parking space inside their lot, fits 6 maybe 7 cars. The onion rings look like the kind that you just buy and not battered in house. And about 8$ for a skinny hot dog. The private lot for The Happy Hound is very small, so if it's packed you will have to find some street parking. The shop itself is very small, probably only about 4-5 tables inside? I think there are some tables outside too and there is one gender neutral bathroom outside. We decided to order the happy hound, happy burger and the garlic parm tots. We enjoyed the happy hound more than the burger. Don't forget to ask for your hot dog grilled because I believe the standard is like a boiled hot dog. They definitely don't skip out on the toppings. There was a lot of onions on our happy hound. The Happy Burger was fine. The garlic parm tots were ok. They fry on them were good, but with the extra cost to make them garlic parm wasn't worth it because the garlic was very faint in taste. You're probably better off getting regular tots or fries. The food is made promptly (fast food, of course), and it is always piping hot. The food is another standout. Their fries are the star of the show. Name another place where you can get two pounds of delicious fries for about $10. That's enough to feed a family, not more need to spend $5 on fries for each kid. Their burgers and hotdogs are delicious as well. I love watching the cheddar cheese melt over the top of the burger while it's cooking. The ambiance is essential 1950's burger joint. Seating is minimal, but always available when I have gone (at least as long as the weather allows for sitting outside). Do yourself a favor and get to Happy Hound with an empty stomach. I don't want to scroll around to find the "no tomato" option. Staff used to open the window to take your order in a cheery mood. Happy Hound is that burger and dog place that's been there forever and every local knows and (most) loves. It's quite small, looking like it's from another time, and nothing like it's jumbo sized franchise competitors. The "Hound of Happiness" as my kids call it has been in our family rotation for over 20 years so we've seen it through ups, downs, fires, and ownership changes. The kitchen is tiny but well laid out with more fryers, grills, steamers, dog rollers, and prep areas than seems dimensionally possible. Tonight there somehow were six (SIX!) people efficiently working to get out food for a mini rush of customers. Our food tonight, a Happy Burger, Hell Hound, and fries, was all good but the Hell Hound with its grilled onions, grilled jalapeños and bacon bits stood out. The place survived a fire some years ago and the local neighborhood was pleased to see it come back. The space is now a little worn around the edges and could use some renovation but hopefully done with a light touch that doesn't subtract from its retro charm. There was the typical lunch time rush where the line almost made it out the door. From blue collar workers, business suits and everybody in between, they all come here and leave happy it seems. I got the hell hound, fries and a medium soda which added up to 19 bones and some change. Very good dog and the fries are standard, maybe comparable to McDonald's in size and taste. I don't have any complaints but it can take a while to get your food. Nothing too bad but it wouldn't hurt to call your food in if you're in a rush. The inspector on our job came here and got a burger, which he wasn't too happy about. I didn't try it and can't vouch for his taste buds but I personally don't go to hot dog places and get a burger the same way I don't go to a seafood restaurant to order chicken strips lol. I've snuck in a few times over the past five months. They do have the best hot dog around. They're the kind of hot dogs that "snap" as my daughter would say. And I'm happy to say that I'm seen and acknowledged and appreciated consistently. Thank you. The order is ready on time, and every time it's accurate. The fries are still a little hit or miss as to being cooked long enough, but they are very tasty. I've also tried the tater tots. I've missed good tots since my local Armadillo Willys closed and these satisfy my "potato" tooth. They've also added in additional outdoor seating off to the side of the parking lot as well. So, go!
