2 days after my massage with Bunny
    Gayle M.

Recommend by a friend. Came out with bruises all over my arms. I felt and looked like I was beaten up. I don't bruise easily so to have these bruises meant Bunny went too hard on my arms. I kept on saying too tender and to lighten her pressure and removing my arms but she kept going.

Peter does a great job in loosening my tense upper back and he does pressure points on my feet that I've never experienced in other foot spas before!

I decided to make a same-day appointment for a deep tissue massage on a Monday and it was easy to make an appointment online. One thing that I appreciated was that the person at the front desk called me ahead of my appointment and asked what kind of pressure I liked as it was my first time visiting. She said she wanted to ensure that I was matched with a staff member who would best fit my preferences to ensure I had a good experience. I don't think I've had that done before the actual appointment at any other place so that was thoughtful. They even offered to take me in earlier if I was available. Once I walked in, I could tell it would be relaxing as the environment was very quiet and peaceful. As soon as I was out in a room and ready for the massage, the staff made sure I was comfortable and asked if I had any areas I wanted them to focus on, to which I answered my lower back. I liked that they even checked in once they started applying more pressure to make sure it was okay. Overall, I was very satisfied with the experience and as someone who sometimes tenses up during massages because it's too much, was able to a actually relax during my appointment and even dosed off a little. Even afterwards, my body feels great and the lower back pain has definitely improved! Overall, I would recommend coming here and would definitely come back to try their other packages.

UPDATE: Ronald Aleteanu, one of the owners, reached out to me via comment on here. He said "reach…read moreout directly so it can be resolved at the level it should have been", which is odd, because he was the one that initially sent me the business' refund policy when I asked for a refund and rejected my refund in the first place. It just feels like he is wanting to publicly look like he is addressing the situation properly. I did end up reaching out again today, per his request, and Elena Aleteanu, the other owner, has not changed her stance. She is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that I need to reach out to Square. Square is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that the business needs to initiate the refund. So, I reached out to Ronald again directly, and he did not respond. In addition, he got my Google review deleted and is trying to get this one deleted as well, but thankfully Yelp is a lot better about keeping honest reviews. I also forgot to note that the service was booked for two hours total, as a side by side massage. Elena tried to SCAM my sister and her partner by offering each a 1 hour service, one at a time (because of being understaffed), even though it is a two hour service. I paid $400 for the massages, so she's was trying to tell my sister that each service (which included a full massage and facial) of $200 was for one hour only, which is a lie. ORIGINAL POST: AVOID California Skin Care & Day Spa in Newark I prepaid for a service (it was a gift), received a confirmation reminder the day before, and made arrangements for my sister and her partner who are visiting from out of town. I even paid for an Uber to get them there. They arrived on time and the place was closed. No staff, no setup, nothing. They waited about 40 minutes, while I tried calling and messaging every available number. Eventually Ronald Aleteanu, one of the owners, responded on WhatsApp , but that did not change the situation and the service still was not provided. Between the Uber and waiting, this ended up wasting about 2 hours of their time (& money for the Uber), and they left with nothing. After all of that, Elena Aleteanu (who eventually came) claimed she had called and left a message (and at one point claimed that she talked to someone - a complete lie). I never received any call or voicemail, and I confirmed that the number I entered was correct. Their explanation just does not add up, especially since they had no problem sending a reminder the day before. What is most frustrating is that they still refused to issue a refund for a service they never provided. Instead, they only offered store credit, which is completely unreasonable. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. I also posted this on NextDoor and numerous people replied noting that the same thing happened to them. So this is not an isolated incident. I've posted those screenshots here.

I had a massage today and afterwords was told that my tip was not enough and that I needed to tip more. A few things to note here - 1. You do not tip upfront. Your initial payment is only for the base massage rate. You tip after your massage. They have a sign right next to the front desk which basically encourages you to tip more (1 thumbs up - 20% tip, 2 thumbs up - 25% tip, 3 thumbs up - 30% tip). Don't feel pressured because of that sign. It's better if you carry cash for the tip. They prefer it that way because you give the tip directly to your masseuse. 2. The short form you fill out lets you provide information like pressure level, sore points to focus on during the massage and any injuries that the masseuse needs to be aware of. This is very helpful in case there is a language barrier. The front desk lady was really nice and friendly. And I wasn't pressured into tipping a certain amount which is great. I opted for the Swedish massage with back walking. The rate was very reasonable and the massage was well worth the price. You can find all the rates on their website. My masseuse was quite good. I have had back walking experience in the past but this one was a little different (and more intense). My masseuse used her heels and the toes to dig into my back to loosen it before the oil massage. It was maybe 5 - 10 minutes long but there were times when I definitely struggled to breathe. This part was definitely not relaxing but it's on me. I could have asked them to lower the intensity/pressure more but I thought that they were already doing the lowest pressure because I had mentioned it in the form that I filled out. My masseuse engaged me in a few conversations during the massage. I was okay with it but I can see how that can hinder the overall experience for folks who enjoy their massage in a more quiet and peaceful setting. There wasn't any communication barrier so I was able to ask my masseuse to lower the intensity for the oil massage which was great. Their massage tables are heated but you can ask them to turn it off if it gets too hot. Unlike other massage places, this spa didn't have water or tea after the massage was over (or at least I didn't see/get any) but that's fine. Overall it was a good experience.

We were originally just looking for a couples massage, but what sold us on Immersion was that the massage also included access to all of the spa amenities. We booked a couples deep tissue massage and both enjoyed it. I'd personally rate the massage itself around a 7.5-8/10--definitely above average, although not necessarily the best massage I've ever had. That said, the entire spa experience really elevated the visit and made it feel well worth it. The facility was very clean, peaceful, and relaxing, and the staff was professional and welcoming. We also loved that they use Aveda products. There were plenty of fresh towels, lockers for our belongings, and slippers were provided, which came in handy since we forgot to bring ours. The amenities were probably our favorite part. We enjoyed the steam room, dry sauna, cold plunge, and small heated pool. They also had snacks available, which was a nice touch. The spa is clothing optional, but the atmosphere felt comfortable, respectful, and relaxing. We came on a Wednesday and it wasn't busy at all, which made the experience even better. We never felt crowded or rushed and were able to really enjoy the facilities before and after our massage. Overall, while I'd give the massage itself a 7.5-8/10, I'd give the overall experience 5 stars. Between the massage, amenities, cleanliness, and relaxing atmosphere, it was a great way to celebrate our anniversary. We would definitely come back!

I also appreciate that they push to turn off or silence phones. Unplugging is the way to go when visiting these types of facilities. Also, the massages were fantastic - I got the deep tissue massage and I felt like a new woman after. My boyfriend also felt the same way. I teased him after about him making noises when getting a massage lol. He very much enjoyed it as this was a birthday present for him! We will definitely be doing this as a ritual every 3 to 4 months! Note: the only issue I had was parking - extremely hard to find parking. We recommend that you come at least 1 hour before your appointment, not only because of the parking issue, it also gives you ample time to enjoy the extra amenities that I listed above which comes with every service you book for.
