I was in need of a good massage after a stressful few weeks at work and some lower back pain and The Royal Thai Spa did not disappoint! I decided to make a same-day appointment for a deep tissue massage on a Monday and it was easy to make an appointment online. One thing that I appreciated was that the person at the front desk called me ahead of my appointment and asked what kind of pressure I liked as it was my first time visiting. She said she wanted to ensure that I was matched with a staff member who would best fit my preferences to ensure I had a good experience. I don't think I've had that done before the actual appointment at any other place so that was thoughtful. They even offered to take me in earlier if I was available. Once I walked in, I could tell it would be relaxing as the environment was very quiet and peaceful. As soon as I was out in a room and ready for the massage, the staff made sure I was comfortable and asked if I had any areas I wanted them to focus on, to which I answered my lower back. I liked that they even checked in once they started applying more pressure to make sure it was okay. Overall, I was very satisfied with the experience and as someone who sometimes tenses up during massages because it's too much, was able to a actually relax during my appointment and even dosed off a little. I came here for a much needed prenatal massage, and left feeling so relaxed and like every knot was worked out of my body. I suggest arriving a little early to check in, fill out paperwork, and use the restroom. The massage rooms are separated by heavy black out curtains. You can hear others walking by and talking, but everybody was respectful and kept their voices to a low whisper. They ask what areas you'd like more focus on and which areas are off limits, as well as the amount of pressure you'd like for your massage. DANCE PERFORMANCES SAVED On Tuesday September 23 I injured myself during a hip hop practice for the upcoming showcase in October. I wasn't sure if I was able to perform for the two showcases in October 10 and 11 because I felt a pop right above me right knee. For the next two days I couldn't stand straight on my right leg. I requested quotes through Yelp for deep tissue massage. Most of them came back stating the earliest available was in October. Instead waiting from other massage facilities through Yelp I directly went to one that I have gone in the past - The Royal Thai Spa. When you enter The Royal Thai Spa you are given a diagram of body parts. You circle the parts that need to be focused. On Thursday September 25 I came here for a 90-minute deep tissue massage. I circled the right knee and right quadriceps as the areas to be worked on. After the session was over I was able to stand straight on my right leg. That following weekend there was no practice so I was able to rest for a week. The next week I came back on the Thursday October 2 and requested the 90-minute deep tissue massage to focus on the right side of my leg: knee, quadriceps, and IT band. After the session I felt fine to practice for Saturday and Sunday. However during Sunday's practice I felt my right hamstring tightened. I thought my hamstring was going to pop. On Wednesday October 8 I requested a 90-minute deep tissue massage with the focus on my right knee and hamstring. During this session I had new massage therapist Eva working on me. She stepped on my right hamstring. By stepping on my hamstring she removed the tightness and lactic acid. The next day before the first performance my right hamstring felt loosened. Also my right knee wasn't as sore as two weeks before. I want to thank Eva for her work on my right hamstring. On Friday October 10 and October and Saturday October 11 I was able to perform the 10-minute hip hop piece with my fellow dancers. After the performances the following Friday I made an appointment with Eva for her to work on my knees and hamstrings. Even though I paid a lot for those four sessions in a short period of time the price was worth it because I was able to perform. I have always had great massages here, but today I booked last minute with Sara because I threw out my back. She helped me SO much. All the therapists here are so powerful. From 10 minutes before our appointment until the moment we left, I felt rushed. I was walking up to the building and the front desk had already called me twice. I get that you want to start on time--but it was only 10:51 a.m., and according to Google, you weren't even open yet. Either way, I was already walking in the door. As soon as we walked in, the front desk handed us a chart to mark what we wanted them to focus on during the massage. They didn't even ask what type of massages we wanted. I had to bring it up myself, but it didn't seem like they cared. They were only focused on getting us into the room as fast as possible. My husband and I were there for a birthday couple's massage. We both needed to use the restroom first, and once we were done, we got into the room and undressed right at 11 a.m. They came in exactly on time. The massage started, they asked for our names, and that was it. Remember that chart they gave us to indicate focus areas? Completely pointless. I specifically asked for attention to my arms and legs since I work a desk job--but she completely ignored that. She spent 30 minutes on my back, mostly using her elbows. By the time she got to my arms and legs, she was rushing through it, probably because they had to finish by 12 p.m. My husband's experience was just as disappointing. His massage therapist dug into him with her elbows and gave him the exact same massage I got, even though we asked for completely different focus areas. At one point, they left the room to get warm towels. When my husband's masseuse walked out, I was uncovered I did not appreciate that at all. We were in the first room near the lobby, so we heard people coming in and talking the whole time. It was distracting and not relaxing. After the massage, we got dressed. My husband finished before me and stepped out to take a call. Before I was even fully dressed, the staff walked in and started changing the sheets. They didn't wait for me to finish getting my shoes on--they just came in and started cleaning. Needless to say, I didn't feel comfortable or relaxed by the end of it. We paid $186 for two Swedish massages--at least, that's what I think it was. No one ever showed me an itemized receipt or confirmed the service. On top of that, we left a $33 tip. I had Beam as my massage therapist. She was great; she ensured I was comfortable during the massage. I asked her for deep pressure and to focus on my right scapula. I always go here for a body massage but this is the first time I tried the foot reflexology, and it was sooooo good. Selena had a good pressure and hits the points. Their 60 mins foot reflexology is actually only 50 mins and the other 10 mins is saved for a back massage, but if you do not want to use the back massage minutes, you can just let them know and they will go back to your feet. I was very surprised with their credit card charge though, seems like they are charging $3 for every service. So when I paid 2 services in 1 transaction, I got charged $6 extra. read more

I have been coming to this place since moving to Fremont from Oakland in 2023. I had a really good Thai massage place there that is *consistent no matter which masseuse you get*, which is really the main criteria I look for in these types of businesses. If you don't know which masseuse to get and you have a chronic tense muscles like me, I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5. Decent enough but does not really hit the spot. I have tried an array of their masseuses and have stuck to those I know have significantly addressed my concerns. The reason I'm giving this a 3 Star is for my first couples massage here where I opted in to share the same room with my husband. It was his first time ever getting a massage and the masseuses switched our papers. _Immediately_ assuming that because I'm the woman and the tinier one, I require the lighter pressure and so-so massage. (I say this because it always happens when I go in as a group to any massage places since I'm a very petite/small person) Even after requesting the masseuse to go heavier, it didn't really improve. At the end, they also rushed the massage for my husband as my masseuse finished first. My husband said they barely did half of his left leg after finishing the right one. If you have a chronic tense muscles like me, I'd suggest coming in separately or requesting a separate room if going with people. I've been here a decent amount over the last handful of years and it's 50/50 on experience. The last two times weren't so great - I had taken a break because it was very 50/50 and decided to come back for a prenatal massage. The prices are average, with an additional fee for credit card. I'm giving a 4, but maybe closer to 3.5/3 based on the interactions with the staff. Usually you go to a massage to relax and it wasn't quite that. The massage itself went ok, but the review is full experience. Pressure was decent. And I've had some massages that make me want to get the bulk discounts with cash that they used to have. Things to expect - you won't get the full time. I ran a bit late and they adjusted the time for me but still cut it short. They aim to book back to back which makes sense but you can't get the full hour or 90 minutes if the next massage starts at the end time of the previous. They don't account for transition time - you'll hear others in the other rooms as they enter and exit. Everything including the front door is separated by a curtain - including the front door. They have music playing but it's super limited. You also hear the outside road. If that's an issue for relaxing, just plan for that - things seemed cleaned, blankets changed and the environment is nice - they have a clean bathroom, so that's nice - they can be friendly. I did sense the rush that others mentioned in reviews (keep in mind I was late for my appointment so I take ownership for that.) - if I remember correctly, some of the masseuses are super good when it comes to the deep tissue and the Thai but it's been a while since then - and again, I can see why I took a break from them - prenatal massages were a good option and they did have the prenatal pillow that not all massage places offer. I did feel odd laying on my back for the last 5ish minutes when that's not always recommended while pregnant Overall I was really hoping to go back regularly for prenatal massages but I think I may keep looking. My friend gave me a $100 gift certificate to this spa to pay me back for helping her. So I spent on a $90 Aroma massage. I was so looking forward to this. Leah was wonderful! However, I won't be back because of 3 things: #1 The owner of the spa interrupted my massage to ask if I wanted to extend it to an hour and a half and pay the higher rate and #2 When I whispered back to her that I would just put the remaining $10 toward the tip she told me I couldn't do that. Its a small thing but I believe the owner could have easily given the $10 remaining to my masseuse. #3 I am in the habit of tipping 20% so I would have given the masseuse a $20 bill but a sign in the entrance said that if I was satisfied the tip should be $25 and for excellent service the tip should be more.
