Love this place. Order as much as you can at different times. They have a great menu and do the chicken right. Authentic soups and better burritos than you know where. ... So park in the back lot. Walk in the back door and then order. Busy at times, but always a place to sit. Friendly cashiers and plenty of good drinks to choose from. Just a frustrating experience. Ordered a chicken burger with no mayo. I waited 10 minutes while 5 or so ppl who ordered after me got served. Then once my burger came - I left the store and drove home. Not only was the burger tiny and cooked poorly, but they also included mayo on both pieces of bread (when I asked for none like 4 times). After the server finished his conversation with his coworker he tersely asked "what do you want?" But that's not why I'm giving them two stars. Today I had a quarter chicken with cilantro rice, chickpeas and an alfajor for less than $10, and that food was packed in there! They make their own salsa that is complimentary with the meal, and it is soo spicy! It is nice to eat at a place that is not afraid to use spices to really elevate their food. Super Pollo totally kills El Pollo Rico -- you get to choose from a dozen or so sides, rather than being confined to El Pollo Rico's limited options of coleslaw, rice, or fries. The chicken is just as moist and tasty, with similar mild and spicy sauces. I got the dark meat only, and it was delicious. For sides I opted for the spinach (which is sauteed in a sauce and is DELISH) and the fried rice (which has bits of chicken, green onion, and egg in it - yum!). I also tried a few plantains -- soft and naturally sweet. For the price ($6.99 for 1/4 chicken with 2 sides), this place is a steal! You can get a very hearty filling meal for under $10. This chicken is amazing and I'm torn between which I prefer more - Super Pollo or El Pollo Rico. Judging by the numerous mentions of EPR in Super Pollo's reviews, I gather others suffer from this same internal struggle. First off - I prefer dark meat so naturally, my go-to 1/4 chicken is juicy and sublime. The skin lacks crispiness but is also never overly fatty - which I feel is a fair trade off. The flavor of the skin combined with the tender meat underneath will melt in your mouth and you'll find yourself greedily grasping for more before you can swallow. Additionally, there is a large variety in sides and what they serve with your meal, they serve in abundance. Unfortunately, I don't need heaping scoops of spinach or cole slaw so my takeout box felt like a hefty 6 lbs as opposed to a desired 3 lbs. Nonetheless - I appreciate the generosity. Speaking of sides ... the only negative I can say about Super Pollo is that their sides are a tad bit bland. However, it almost seems necessary for side dishes to not outshine the chicken but to complement it. So this is much less a negative comment as it is an observation. The restaurant is clean and well organized, with plenty of seating for lunchtime rush. The standard sauces of yellow mayo and spicy green pepper are provided (and taste excellent when mixed together).
