a meal in a styrofoam container

This place is the definition of a cheap but good place that gets the job done. There were a fair assortment of offerings and sizes. I went with the standard 1/4 pound chicken with plantains and yuca fries. Most of their customers must be there for take-out but there are still tables for indoor dining. It's a fairly no-frills place but what did you expect?

    1/2 chicken and yucca fries

First order out after our move and with so many Peruvian chicken places around we have this a shot. My wife ordered the lomo saltado and I did 1/2 chicken with yucca fries and rice & beans. The lomo saltado was good. Saucy, a bit of flavor from maybe fresh cilantro, decent beef, and I think the white rice was seasoned slightly (might have just been salt, but like the right amount.) The chicken had a nice, subtle smokiness to it. Now I know for delivery you're not going to keep a crispy skin, but it was hot from the grill. Yucca fries were a good size. Yucca isn't that flavorful, but they were great dipped in the green sauce (a little spicy). Rice & beans were fine. A solid meal and now I think it's a good bar to compare other local chicken places with.

They definitely skimmed on the fish for the price. Ceviche de Pescado is $18 and I feel like I got $10 worth of fish.

This place is nasty. I order food from this restaurant. And I'm so disgusted!!! It was hair in my food TWICE!!! THAT DISTURBING & DISGUSTING . Never again will I eat from this restaurant. was 5 orders and after what we saw, all went to trash.

Half chicken with yuca and salad. Chicken and yuca were great! Salad..ehh

After over 15 years since this experience I've…read morepatronized quite a few different places and ventured back to where the journey began to compare. Spoiler Alert: It's number 1. Though what I really like about the place changed. When I first went all they offered was Chicken, Cole slaw, and fries. In a world of many option I actually thought this sent a message that we are so good we only offer a limited choice that's you will enjoy. Tbf the fries can't compete w McD or Chikfila Waffle fries but they were good. The service counter is modernized and they are efficient and friendly. The layout if the restaurant is still basic like the limited menu they used to have. No frills no gimmicks just good food. Still the same vibe The chicken was still very good. Other places are fairly close but Apollo Rico is just a touch better. The charred seasoning is evident. What tipped the scales for me in comparison to other places I've been is the green sauce. It liked fresh. It wasnt like other places where that has the consistency of ketchup it looked bright green and freshly made vs other places where it seems as if it was poured out a container.

We ordered a half chicken with yuca and beans as the sides. It was very quick, we got our food within seconds it felt like. The chicken was probably the most flavorful kind of Pollo a la Brasa that I have had. It wasn't too greasy either. Just very tasty. The beans were delicious!! I didn't think I would like them as much. The yuca was pretty good too. Nice and crispy. I do wish they had slightly more options for sides, maybe even an Arroz Chaufa. This is a no frills kinda place so don't expect anything too fancy. But it is clean! And that's what makes it more authentic and fun in my opinion! Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

All the Staff was super and checked on us constantly, never felt abandoned outside (we were only ones). We went with Family meal and a side order of Pupusas (2 for $10). Your choice of spinach/cheese, beef or chicken. We stuck with water to drink. The chicken was delicious, we have our favorite in Alexandria, but this chicken was very good. The sides were good, fries, yucca and rice. The sauces complemented everything (green & white). We asked for ketchup, they did provide some packets (perfer an actuall ketchup bottle when dining in). The Papusas were not a big hit with the table. Overall, a good option if in the area. Especially for the price which was way better than expected for area.

But the shrimp saltado was forgettable, and the chicha morada was a letdown -- mostly ice, barely any flavor. It tasted like purple-tinted water, not the real thing. I bought two empanadas to bring home to my mother and asked specifically for two chicken. The employee at the register was friendly, but kept nudging me toward one beef, one chicken. I said no. I explained my mother doesn't eat beef. She bit into one at home and stopped. It was beef. There was no way to know from the outside. I understand that mistakes can happen, but it was disappointing to receive the wrong empanada after I had specifically explained that my mother does not eat beef. What made the situation even more concerning was that the beef did not seem fresh. In addition, while the empanada looked properly baked and golden on the outside, the dough inside was still undercooked. Unfortunately, this experience changed my overall impression of the restaurant.

Ordered the Empanada tasting which is one steak, chicken and sausage. A few minutes later the u inspired server brings 2 of the same flavor when there should have been 3 different flavors. The manager corrected the issue and we started tasting and sampling and quickly realized that there wasn't much flavor to any of them and the sauce tasted like it had sat open in the refrigerator for weeks. One bite of each was enough to stop eating them! Then along came dinner..... Lomo Saltado and it was more disappointing than the appetizers! The steak chunks were not seasoned, the dish was very dry and the fries and vegetables were not seasoned. This meal doesn't even rate 1 star and they should be ashamed of their service and products!! Overall my review says don't eat at Mayta's!! It was a complete waste of money and time!! Horrible service and food!!

The food, they have a great lunch option and we took advantage of that, an app, main dish, and drink for $18 Their empanadas were 5/5, great filling and flavor, nice crunch/flakey dough and I would 100% recommend. The meats, now y'all know, if you have been reading any of my reviews that I like my steak/meats a particular sort of way. just to preference! I got their Lomo saltado and the steak was TOUGH, not uneatable tough, but tough enough to not really enjoy my meal. But besides the meat being tough, I couldn't really taste the aji amarillo flavor and didn't have much flavor in general, just a little salty. The fries were great crispy on the bottom and were prepared well. For a dish that's almost $30, they should use a better cut of meat. overall, not a great experience 2/5. My wife got their steak skewers and similarly, the meat was too tough, and didn't' have too much flavor. also very mid. Overall, the place was cute but just lacking in terms of their food. I would maybe go back to try more things (but really to eat their empanadas) but with almost spending $70 for pretty terrible main course meals was unfortunate.
