This Peruvian style chicken restaurant serves up much more than chicken. One of my favorite Peruvian dishes of all times is called Anticucho, which beef roasted to perfection. They actually have real beef and not the processed beef some other restaurants have. Their grilled chicken is also good. My boyfriend broke away from tradition and got their fried chicken with delicious potatoes wedges. I ordered the Anticucho which is the usual for me. I would definitely characterize this as an ethnic restaurant, however the employees who I dealt with do speak English. I would come here every week if I had the time and money. I thought I would give this place a try since the number of reviews and stars. Disappointing. I love Peruvian chicken, however this one lacked flavor and not juicy as claimed. I purchased a half chicken and the portion sizes are small. It looked like two thighs versus thigh and leg, wing and breast. The small salad was the best part of the meal. Been here a dozen or more times. My go to Peruvian chicken spot. You can get a whole chicken with two salads and two rice (only comes with one so ask for an extra) for like $25. The chicken sides are super small, not to mention a lame salad they put in the dish with a little bit of Yuka.. the sauce was good! I won't deny that. I would not go to this place if you are a non hispanic person of color. I went to this place with a co worker. We both ordered at the same time and he received his food right away. I ordered a gyro with fries mix with yucca. Five other customers ordered after me and received their food. After 20 min, I just inquired how much longer. From his réaction the cook did not like the fact that I asked and simply stated its coming. I waited... another 10 mins later received my food. I pulled out my card since I don't carry cash and they said cash only. Needless to say they did not give me the extra sauce since I did not have change or cash. This is a very light 3 stars, maybe 2.5. The staff is very friendly but I was surprised by how hopping the place was considering the quality. This really isn't Peruvian style chicken in my opinion, more like regular rotisserie which is way less flavorful. Under salted in general, and the fries were just bad. Often places like these use steak fries which I actually prefer to yucca but these were flavorless and maybe even a little over-fried, and unfortunately the sauces didn't help. The mayo sauce was sweet for some reason and the green sauce was not spicy at all and in fact needed a little salt (tasted ok when I added some). Plantains are just ok, could use a bit more flavor too. They do have a huge drink variety here which is nice - often these places only have a few good things and are out of key things like chicha morada. Interior is fine, decent amount of seating. Kind of standard for places like this. Overall you're better off looking somewhere else. Arlington has better options. read more

In this case, it's good and it's cheap but it's not quite as good as the better versions in this area such as Sardis and Super Pollo. Sardi's is the gold standard, or should I say the brown char-grilled standard. The service here is actually really nice. The girls seemed to like me and had no problem feeding me only 20 mins before closing. Some places don't do that. What a letdown, and I mean a letdown. The chicken is good, but after that there is not too much to like here. I got fries and plantains with my meal and it also comes with a "salad" aka watered down dressing served with iceberg lettuce. The fries were decent but the plantains were heavily over cooked and greasy. What was worse, no yellow mayonnaise! You get the spicy habanero sauce but the other sauces I got were just bland. Clearly this place is hit or miss. Hoping for a hit, I decide to roll the dice. The Chicken Place is definitely not the tiny, grimy place it was when I was here years ago...of course they have a different menu and likely different owners now too. One side that I was craving that is now missing from the menu is Choclo (giant kerneled, Peruvian Corn). Now on to the review... PARKING: Horrible. The parking lot is not nearly large or accessible enough to handle the customer traffic. It is also not very well maintained, so potholes, bad lighting, and barely visible markings contribute to the problem. At dinner time, getting in and out without a near fender bender is a miracle. A handwritten sign taped to the door warns you not to park next door or you will be towed. I recommend parking across the street at the Toys 'R Us lot. It is always at least half empty. SIGNAGE: The stand-alone sign is well lit, but pretty small compared to other signage in the area. The sign on the building is not lit...at least not when I went. So if you aren't using a GPS, it will ve easy to miss. EXTERIOR: Relatively clean with some recent renovation. Hard to notice with the location and parking lot though. INTERIOR: From recent reviews and observation, it seems that they have renovated not too long ago. They have doubled the size of their dining room since my last visit, but that was many years ago. They are quite busy, but there is a lot seating available. Don't expect more than cafeteria style seating, but I saw none of the cleanliness issues that other reviewers mentioned. Unfortunately they have squeezed in a few too many tables, so it makes lining up to order a little awkward, but not too bad. ORDERING PROCESS: Besides the line, there are no real issues. The order taker and the lady that hands off your order were both friendly and efficient in my experience. There are two types of chicken on the menu for some reason, but if you want traditional Peruvian Chicken, be sure to ask for the Pollo a la Brasa. The menu is one of the newer video menus on a large screen TV behind the counter...but all options are on the screen...it does not cycle to more options or more pictures like some other places. While it was standing room only, my to go order took only a few minutes wait. Last but not least... THE FOOD: I ordered a half chicken (pollo a la brasa) with a side of onion rings, Inca cola, and flan for dessert. The chicken was juicy and flavorful with crispy charred skin (but not too much). The onion rings were crispy and large with just the right amount of saltiness. The Inca Cola of course was as cold and refreshing as expected. The flan was made a little differently than I normally see with the liquid somehow cooked in, underneath the custard in a small aluminum pan. Although different it was sweet and visually pleasing enough to satisfy. Some places seem to think that flan is too sweet, so they make it less so...but then it isn't really flan anymore! OVERALL: While The Chicken Place isn't the best Peruvian Chicken I have had, it is by far the best I have had in the Baileys Crossroads area. There are some really bad places (yet popular for some reason) that claim to serve peruvian chicken nearby, so that makes The Chicken Place stand out that much more. While I would like to see more options for sides and main courses, there was nothing not to like about my latest meal...and I would return now that I know where to park :-P CONCLUSION: Everyone has their favorites, but if you find yourself in the area, The Chicken Place is worth a try (or a second try for those who didn't like it before). read more

Not bad. This is only my 2nd experience with Peruvian Chicken and I'm hooked. I can't say this place was better than El Pollo Ranchero in Alexandria, but it certainly is much closer for me and not bad at all. The rub they use for the chicken is noticeably different but still delicious. This place was packed during lunch, but I was in and out in about 5 minutes with my take-out. Chicken is cooked in a large rotisserie oven. Meat was tasty and full of cumin-y goodness. The side of rice was just okay. This place used to be so amazinggg I'm extremely disappointed in what it's become. The chicken has a different flavor and it's rare if you get it cooked fully now. My chicken is always bloody and raw. The service is trash and you will feel rushed. They act like a McDonald's, quick fast food. But it shouldn't be like that. It's charcoal chicken we're happy you have business but come one guys take care of the food your giving us. They all of a sudden charge for sauces even though they didn't used to do that but I guess they want to milk out every nickel out you now. There was very little difference in the chicken I purchased and the one you may get from the grocery store Rotisserie. This place seemed to taste like a healthier version than the other Peruvian chicken joints. They definitely give you more meat in terms of whatever combo you order. I had the 1/4 chicken, and while the skin was alright (not as crispy). The meat itself was quite juicy, and their white sauce wasn't that half bad either as it was nice and creamy. They had regular fries (instead of crinkle-cut), but I would like to try their rice option next time I do come in here. Prices are comparable to other Peruvian joints, and this place seems very laid-back in terms of atmosphere. It does get mighty packed, and you do have the high possibility in sharing a table with strangers. We usually go for full chicken, which comes with 2 salads and 2 sides. The fried yucca is fire! But counts as 2 sides of fries - so just be prepared! The chicken seasoning is excellent - by far our favorite of the many rotisserie chicken places in the area. The green sauce, or aji, is also top notch! For a whole chicken, we get 3 little containers. You can always grab more, but it will cost you 25 cents per packet. Parking can be a little challenging, but spots open up relatively quickly if you have to wait a bit. It's pretty busy, but staff is wicked fast! I could have gone to several other chicken places in the area. Sadly, I picked this one. Maybe I found them on an off day. Not really sure. I had grilled chicken salad. I think the mistake came into play when they do actually use the grilled Peruvian chicken,but I think that they re-grill it. Which makes it dry. Very dry. So I pretty much just had lettuce and tomatoes to eat. The place was very clean. And the line moved very fast. So maybe the regular grilled chicken is fine. I don't know.
