If I could, I would not even give this place one star. I walked into this place thinking it was a close by competitor. I politely stated that I was interested in getting a smog check. As frugal as I am, I handed the man behind the desk my registration and a coupon. He looked at the coupon and said rudely and with disgust, "This is not for here!" I said "Oh really? Well what is your price?" He stated the price of $50. I said "Oh ok, well do you know where this place is?" He rudely throw my papers at me and said "I don't know, you can leave now." I left and went ahead and went to their near by competitors Auto Check Center in the same complex Unit #19. Very nice guys and they are half the price with a coupon! Whoa, super easy and super fast! I was required to do a smog check for my DMV renewal, so I searched my trusty yelp and it did not fail. I called Super Smog to see if I could come in right away. Danny told me to come in 30 minutes, so I did - on the dot. True to his word, he performed the smog check on my car immediately and I was in and out of there in 10 minutes. I recently had a smog emission sensor replaced and prematurely got it smog tested at another location in Lake Forest and a couple of the sensors didn't pass but unfortunately I paid $61 for the test and certificate even though I didn't pass. I even mentioned that I just had my sensors replaced but they didn't say anything regarding it. My mechanic suggested I drive it a bit more and after 200 miles he checked it and recommend SUPER SMOG. I called on my way to SUPER SMOG and was told he was available and it would take less than 10 minutes. I came in a few minutes after calling and mentioned that my sensors were replaced and he said he'd do a pre-check beforehand to make sure everything was OK before testing. Less than 10 minutes later he was all done and everything passed and with the certificate it was $50. I was in and out very quickly and I will be coming back for my next smog test. Super Smog! So, it's time to smog your car. Boo boo! Greedy DMV. You suck. Wow the air is so clean because of smog checks... Yeah right you wish CA! Anyways, give Super Smog a try. It's a little shop near the Irvine Car dealerships. Just drive slowly you can find it near the front brown building area. This is nothing fancy and there isn't much of a waiting area. On a hot summers day try to find shade or you can stay inside the poorly vented room and get high off of your car fumes. I usuually wait outside. For around 50 bucks you get a no bs fast smog check that takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Just call ahead or go during the day time to avoid a wait. Usually early morning were busy when I went. A few hours after opening may be a better time to visit. read more

I found this place on Yelp b/c I needed a smog check before paying my DMV registration fee. Now, I found this place and then looked up their website (so I thought) and found a coupon for $19.75 I thought "SCORE!" When I went here, I showed them the coupon and found out that it was for another place just down the street. This place, the fee is $49. I asked about the other one and the guy (Danny) said something about the other location not being on the DMV list of acceptable locations. I didn't really understand it so I shrugged it off. In the end, I'm more sour that I was very much excited/expecting to only pay $28 (after the DMV certificate) and ended up paying $54 (b/c I used credit card). But honestly, Danny (the worker..... owner too?) was EXTREMELY nice and efficient. I just can't get over..... really? If you're even remotely close to the Irvine Auto Center and need your car smogged, even if at a Test-Only or Gold Shield station, go here. Seriously. Super Smog is in the middle of a bunch of auto-related businesses, across from the Rover Doctor. There was plenty of parking out front. The shop is small, and very tidy. I was there for a whole 10 minutes max. Danny, the owner, has been in business there for 20 years. 20 years! That certainly says something. He was friendly and very helpful. I paid $54 by credit card for my small car, though he gives a $4 discount for paying by check or cash, as the multitude has already pointed out. Charged me 60 for the test, which failed due to a OBD II deal with it having a dead battery before I brought it in. He had me drive it for 15 miles. I returned and it passed just fine. Took my Volvo to get smogged about 1,000 after a timing belt change. Paid my 50-something dollars to not get passed because the meter didn't register the catalyst, which apparently means I didn't run it through a proper driving cycle after the timing belt repair. It really had nothing to do with smog. So now, I have to figure out how to drive this thing in order to trigger the meter properly. The two-star rating is for the tech taking my money when he could have run the meter first before the actual inspection. Otherwise, I would have rated higher. read more

Came in a few weeks ago and was charged 40 bucks to get told i had to come back again because of a obdii not ready message. I don't get why I was not told that before the tests were run? i was offered a discount to come back later. Why would i come back to a place dishonest enough to run the test, charge a customer even though they knew the car was not ready to be tested yet? I have been going to Super Smog and referring friends for over 25 years. Started out I bought a new van in 1992 and was selling my old 1986 one. Buyer wanted the van the next day. Went to another smog place for check. Was called being told I required a new ERG valve at $375 told them to proceed. But was called 30 minutes later and was told I also required rear brakes. Told them I would pick up the van and stated NO work to be performed. Took my 1986 van to Danny and it passed with no additional fees or parts required. Despite the numerous amounts of positive review, I have had a terrible experience with Super Smog. I only came here because it was close to my work place and most of the Yelpers have had a decent experience. I was lead to believe that I was going to get an honest smog test with my 97 Corolla, however yet again I found a shop that was trying to make a quick buck off my older model "import" car. Everything in the car is stock and well kept without any display indicators turned on. My car apparently "failed" the smog test, and I was asked to change out my spark plugs from another shop for about $200ish and try again. I ended up cutting my losses and had the guy keep my $45. Took my car to another shop back in my home town of Fresno and it passed without any issues the first try. I talked to the honest tester and he mention sometimes the testers need to make adjustments to accommodate for older cars. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my spark plugs. So I am guessing if i changed my spark plugs with the shop recommended by Super Smog, my car would of magically passed the test. If your car is year 2000 or newer, chances are you would probably pass. Older cars beware, you just might be the money maker for this shop. read more

I am unsure of this place now. I have been bringing my cars to this guy for 10 years with no issues. However, I went there this year and was told that he wouldn't attempt to smog my car because I had aftermarket stuff on it. Then he explained to me that I needed to go back to my mechanic and get.... uh....new aftermarket stuff on my car... to replace my ....uh....old aftermarket stuff that is currently on my car. Mind you, no engine lights, no issue with the car at all. So the issue isn't the car and it's pollution, the issue is that he wanted me to spend about $1,000 to get new aftermarket things that I didn't want nor need - or he wouldn't pass the car. It didn't make sense to me. So, I went to another smog place with absolutely NO ISSUES - car passed as it has for 8 years in about 15 minutes. Is he getting an "incentive" (somehow) to get new equipment sold and high repair bills on customer cars? I don't know, but why else would he not touch my car, but another state licensed smog center would, with no problem at all? Something smells fishy now at this place. And I won't be coming back. And 2 stars means "Meh. I've experienced better." Which I have. read more

I had the easiest smog-check experience of my life on Saturday at Super Smog. BF recommended I take my car here, and when I read all the five-star reviews on Yelp I knew he had to be right. I arrived around 10:30, and Danny took me right away. He said it would only be about 10 to 15 minutes, and he lived up to this promise. I paid the $50 by check, he printed my receipt, and I was on my way to enjoy the rest of the weekend. Both are very cheap and fare prices, especially when I was in and out of the place in just 10 minutes! This was what happened. Arrived at the location without an appointment. I gave him my paper work, he started typing up the documents and information into the computer, he drove up my car, parked it, performed the test, came back (literally) 8 minutes later, I paid, and I was out. It sounds cliche, but if I could give this place 10 stars then I would without hesitation. Not only was my smog test done in ten minutes flat, but due to a recurring problem I have had for years my car died in front of the bay when I tried to leave. I promised the owner of the shop I would be out of the way in a few minutes, but much to my surprise he asked me to explain my problem and then told me about a problem he had read about that sounded similar, and how I could test it myself. Even better, after a minute he decided that he "had to know" if he was right about the problem. We did the test and, sure enough, exactly what he thought would happen did. I've had this car serviced 4-5 times for this issue over the years, and nobody else has been able to figure it out. I was amazed. I strongly recommend that ANYBODY within reasonable distance of the Irvine Auto Center should take their car to Super Smog to get a smog check. My nightmare with STAR smog check... I didn't pass smog here on 3/12/15. OBDII Monitor Not Ready - Catalyst, Secondary Air System. I'm driving a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T (new CAT is only 3 years old). Unfortunately since Danny doesn't do repairs, there wasn't much he could do. Note that 2 hours prior, I visited my local VW who did a pre OBDII scan and visual inspection and found NOTHING! VW had no issue scanning, but Danny did. In Danny's defense other OBDII sensors readings didn't work either in the days following. So, as noted on my receipt from Super Smog, I called the BAR and dealt with the CA Referee. If you ever do this, be warned they just as ___ as the DMV! My first appointed was later cancelled by them do to construction. When I finally went on my second appointment they failed me do to "a kinked hose". 30 minutes later at a VW dealership they stated the hose isn't kinked, it's bent just like a brand new one is supposed to be! Tired going back immediately that day to Referee but they were gone. Called the Referee office and felt like I was talking to deaf clowns. They never helped! 2 days later I revisited Danny/Super Smog. He recommended pre-screening the sensors. Sensors ready! Finally passed STAR smog! In conclusion: Remember Super Smog can only pass/fail you (no repairs or magic help finding your car issues). Danny is fast and makes the process easy! CA Referee are clowns! Seriously, they should wear large clown shoes and long neck ties! I hope your smog check isn't a nightmare! . read more
