My nightmare with STAR smog check... I didn't pass smog here on 3/12/15. OBDII Monitor Not Ready - Catalyst, Secondary Air System. I'm driving a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T (new CAT is only 3 years old). Unfortunately since Danny doesn't do repairs, there wasn't much he could do. Note that 2 hours prior, I visited my local VW who did a pre OBDII scan and visual inspection and found NOTHING! VW had no issue scanning, but Danny did. In Danny's defense other OBDII sensors readings didn't work either in the days following. So, as noted on my receipt from Super Smog, I called the BAR and dealt with the CA Referee. If you ever do this, be warned they just as ___ as the DMV! My first appointed was later cancelled by them do to construction. When I finally went on my second appointment they failed me do to "a kinked hose". 30 minutes later at a VW dealership they stated the hose isn't kinked, it's bent just like a brand new one is supposed to be! Tired going back immediately that day to Referee but they were gone. Called the Referee office and felt like I was talking to deaf clowns. They never helped! 2 days later I revisited Danny/Super Smog. He recommended pre-screening the sensors. Sensors ready! Finally passed STAR smog! In conclusion: Remember Super Smog can only pass/fail you (no repairs or magic help finding your car issues). Danny is fast and makes the process easy! CA Referee are clowns! Seriously, they should wear large clown shoes and long neck ties! I hope your smog check isn't a nightmare! . read more

I went there today with my basically stock car. They looked under the hood and saw a CA legal aftermarket air intake and asked me for the E.O. Number. I had no idea what it was. They then said they would do me a favor and abort the test or just allow me to fail as a modified vehicle. I choose the abort option and they said they still had to charge me. Heck they never even hooked the car to the machine or did anything but look under my hood. I then found another place that smogged it with no problem but it cost a little more. Just went to get my car smogged this afternoon. Got there at 1:50PM and the place closes at 2:00. When I got there it was 92 degrees and I was the third one in the queue; normally when it gets close to closing time and you show up at any store at the last minute you get sub-standard service because everyone just wants to go home. I know I would want to get out and back to my air-conditioned house! However despite the last-minute arrival and oppressive heat, Danny just smiled and waved and said he'd get right to my car. His work was quick and when the check was completed he gave me step-by-step instructions on getting my registration renewed, took his time in doing so and was really friendly and answered all my questions. I'm surprised and puzzled by the low ratings because this is the 2nd time that I brought my car(s) in to get smogged and his service has been consistently fast and friendly; I would definitely recommend him. read more

Fair price for smog check in Irvine - $50 cash or $55 credit card. Probably the best price you can get in Irvine. Fortunately when I arrived at Super Smog, there were no cars. The smog check literally took 5 mins or less...faster than I could finish eating my kind bar. I don't understand other smog checks that take 1 hour and charge you more for a luxury (i.e. BMW) car to get smogged. Don't go to those as the smog check is no different for any car...they are ripping you off! read more

I had to change ownership on a car I had just purchased from a neighbor and to do that a smog check certificate is required. When we pulled up, there were two cars already ahead of us. There's no real place to sit down and there are no magazines or treats, so if you're looking for first class comfort this isn't the place for you. But Danny IS extremely friendly and fast! He was done in 15 minutes with the other two carss. When I explained my situation to him, he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about and we were done in ten minutes. I've seen that some individuals think that Danny is trying to make an extra buck out of some cars, but I can promise you all he's trying to do is help. What a rip off. He will charge you for a full smog inspection even if he knows there is something wrong before he even starts the smog test. Then charges $37 for a retest plus the state certificate fee. He is not helpful at all. Won't tell you what you need to do. Has bad attitude. We usually go to the smog station at the end of the complex but his smog tech was off. Won't be going back here. read more

who waits until the day before their car registration is due to get a smog check? ME!! I was super stressed out because I procrastinated and put it off until the very last minute. I called Super Smog and they said that it can be done in 10 minutes and the info will be sent to DMV overnight. I got there at 5p and was out of there in 10 minutes, paid $53. Just went today, this is my very first Yelp review ever that place is THAT good. Went at lunch on Friday, zero wait. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes. It's very no-frills but I didn't care...I just wanted to go in, get it done, then go back to work. Their prices are posted on the wall, I paid $54 (the smog plus the certificate). I have no idea if that's a good price or not, this is the first time I've had to smog my car since buying it. If I paid $10 extra but it got me out an hour earlier than other places, that's fine by me! read more

Danny you are awesome. I have been in sales and customer service for years and Danny is top notch. I needed to get my car that I purchased used smogged before the DMV would give me the registration so while I was at the DMV in Laguna Niguel I yelped to find out the best / closest place to get my smog test done. I called a couple of places that quoted me crazy prices like $100 and up (are you serious, for a smog check? You better change my oil, rotate my tires, and clean my windows on top the smog for that price.) Danny told me to just head on down, which I did and I was seen within 10 minutes of arrival. Maybe this is a learning experience for both Super Smog and me, but I still feel cheated. I went to get my smog check, after about 5 minutes the owner came in and said the car didn't pass. My car is a Honda Accord so this was surprising since I keep it in very good mechanical shape. The owner then asked if I had and recent service done on the car or changed the battery? I told the owner I had just changed the battery the day before. He said that when you change the battery you have to drive the car 100 miles or so for the computer to reset all the levels.He then handed me a bill for $41 and told me to come back after driving for a few days. to do a re-test-- for $37. Really? He could have asked me the service or new battery question before he started the test. Well, I will drive for a few days and get a re-test---at a different shop. Can't see giving this place $84 for a smog test and re-test. read more
