January 2026 Menu
M X.

January 2026 I got my order to go, barbecue pork fried rice and sweet and pungent shrimp. The portion size on the barbecue pork fried rice is really good, really large. The rice was cooked perfect, the flavor is definitely there. I would get this dish again. The sweet and pungent shrimp was okay I suppose. Way too much sugary sauce if you ask me. Also, they do use smaller size shrimp then some other places in the area. I do like the fact that they do include broccoli with the order. I believe the amount/quantity of Shrimp portion size is just a tad smaller than what I would have liked. I'm not sure if I would order this dish again though. Maybe the experience is a little bit better in person. Please keep in mind, this was a to-go order that I got. Parking is plentiful, even though it's on Reseda and Ventura Boulevard basically. There is a free parking lot that you can park in. If you come for lunch during the week, it's definitely busy, so be prepared to park maybe a little bit further away than you'd like to. Overall, for takeout, this place was pretty good. I have to try this place in person another time when I have more time. But all in all, I would definitely give it another try.

Excellent Chinese food! Excellent service excellent ambience! Fairly priced! Good casual restaurant, with delicious food to eat. I highly recommend takeout or eating there.

Crispy squid with spicy salt
A A.

The crispy squid with spicy salt here ranks among my favorite dishes in Los Angeles. While the restaurant's signature is the pork chop with spicy salt, the squid version is nothing short of spectacular -- possibly the best fried calamari in the city. It's tender inside, with an airy, perfectly crisp coating that's never greasy or chewy. Enjoy it fresh from the kitchen for maximum crunch. The restaurant itself channels that nostalgic New York-style Chinese-American charm -- the kind of place with regulars who've been coming for decades, forks instead of chopsticks, and familiar, comforting flavors that never go out of style. Service is warm and efficient, and lunch here is one of the best values around -- $15-$20 with tip in today's inflationary world feels almost retro. I used to eat here regularly when I worked in the area, and it remains a comforting reminder of the kind of neighborhood restaurant that keeps people coming back. And if you're lucky, you might even spot a celebrity or two -- like the time I saw Vivica A. Fox enjoying lunch alone.

This place has been around forever and I've never tried it until I came for a family dinner. I was pleasantly surprised - the food was good! My favorites were the orange beef, the pork chop, calamari, the egg roll, and the mushu. The chow fun was just ok as there was no wok char. My least favorite was the fried rice and the pepper beef - this was wayyy too salty. They were busy so the service was pretty much nonexistent. I would definitely come back just for the pork chop as it was that good! Parking was easy in a shared lot.

We were looking for traditional Chinese in the SFV. This place seemed reasonable based on the past reviews. To our surprise the staff were warm, funny and engaging. The menu was full of the regular stuff and we asked what stood out? Our server said the Crispy Spicy Pork Chops was her go too. They were amazing in flavor. The cilantro and sliced peppers took it to flavor town! The BBQ pork ribs were also outstanding. We quickly hit full and took home the chow fun and 1/2 of the string grand (light, crunchy and delicious)... my new GF and I had fun, food was great and the atmosphere is what you make of it. Our serving staff stood out and I really appreciated them. When near by I'll snag some to go! Visit this establishment!

Paris, our server, was an absolute ray of sunshine. We decided to share a variety of dishes, which turned out to be the perfect way to experience the menu. I don't eat meat, but my fellow diners could not stop talking about the Braised Short Rib Rolled Lasagna. The Lemon Gnocchi was light and delicate, the beet salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, and the Crispy Squash Blossoms stuffed with ratatouille were absolutely delicious. The Cold Hamachi Aguachile was probably the most interesting dish of the night. It's almost like a fish snow cone, which sounds odd until you try it. My mom would call it "moreish" because every bite makes you want another. The Jumbo Prawns à la Plancha were also excellent. But the standout for me was the Eggplant Parmesan. It was completely over the top in the best possible way. If you told me to come back and order nothing but the eggplant and a martini, I'd happily call that dinner. What really stood out beyond the food was the pacing. Dishes arrived at just the right rhythm, the cocktails were excellent, and the playlist somehow added to the atmosphere without competing with the conversation. I took photos of everything, which should tell you how beautiful the food was, but the best part was simply having a genuinely fun evening with friends. Great food, great service, and a restaurant I'll absolutely be back to.

I've had oyster shooters before and loved them but didn't like their take on it here. Way too much horseradish and the vodka portion was way off (too little vodka) and unbalanced. Oysters Rockefeller - 4 1/2 stars. Quite meaty and delicious, such a great flavor and take on this classic dish. Crab Cake - 4 stars. Quite the large portion, and quite good! Miso Chilean Seabass - 5 stars. This was excellent! It was cooked perfectly with a delicious miso sauce, served with a tasty jasmine rice and steamed spinach. Short Rib w mashed potatoes - 5 stars. No notes! The meat was soft, tender, and rich and flavor and the potatoes were also excellent. Our waitress (who was fabulous) brought out an ice cream Sunday to celebrate the birthday occasion and I have to say it was also fabulous! It was an old school brownie sunday with gobs of delicious hot fudge and sprinkles and an item I would definitely order upon my next visit. I didn't realize they had a complimentary parking lot in the back, that's a huge bonus. Would definitely come back here for a special occasion, this spot is solid!

The famed lobster appetizer was not for us. Bits of lobster floating in a lot of butter didn't excite us. Excellent salads. The other appetizers however, were excellent. We've been twice now had had a lot of their menu. The pork was outstanding. The rack was very good, but I've had even better racks elsewhere. The "famous" banana cream pie was good, not great, but so huge and rich it must be shared. At $30, it's maybe also a tad overpriced. The bar makes a healthy-sized martini that's worth its high-end price tag. Great wine list with wonderful advice and good-sized sample pours, even though I only drink one glass and my husband doesn't drink at all. This is a good place to splurge on a good wine. I've mentioned the above-par service. Informative and cheery, without trying to become your best friend. They went out of their way to assure us a table in a very quiet spot, due to my deafness. Very attentive without being overbearing. Their suggestions seem honest, rather than just trying to upsell everything. The place is huge and gorgeous. Flatteringly, if dimly, lit, it lends itself to romantic dinners and anniversaries. In our case, we like to have a rather luxurious and romantic and lengthy meal perhaps once a month, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so. It's divided into several smallish areas and the effect is rather cozy and intimate. It's chic and stylish, so PLEASE folks, dress for it? It especially saddens me to see a nicely dressed young woman, who obviously spent some time on herself beforehand, with a guy ( I'll guess her husband ), in shorts and a tee shirt. I say, for a place like this, where you could easily spend four bills on a good meal for two, with drinks, management, bring back a dress policy! And enforce it with a reminder email they you do so. Is a collared shirt and a pressed pair of khakis too much to ask for?

The people who I assume own the restaurant, working as both the waiters and chefs, were incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they serve. Since we were completely new to Indonesian cuisine, they patiently answered our questions and gave us great recommendations, which made the experience even better. This is exactly the kind of small business you want to support. The flavors were unlike anything I've had before, and I loved getting to try something so different. My favorite dish was easily the grilled fish. It reminded me of the Filipino grilled fish I grew up eating, so it had a comforting familiarity while still showcasing its own distinct Indonesian flavors. If you're looking for authentic Indonesian food or simply want to try something new, I highly recommend LaaLaaPan. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

The balado wasn't spicy, but the sambal definitely was. I also missed having sambal ijo and some gulai gravy, both of which would have made the plate feel more complete. The bakwan jagung had a similarly homemade style. Depending on your preferences, it will either make you miss your mom's cooking or leave you craving a crispier, restaurant-style bakwan jagung packed with corn kernels. The soda gembira, like many Indonesian places here, use Sprite instead of club soda or plain soda water, which makes it far too sweet. The syrup they used tasted authentic, though. Overall, you may love this place specifically because the food tastes like something you grew up eating. However, if your preference leans more toward polished, restaurant-style Indonesian food, it may feel a little underwhelming.
