We went there this afternoon for Dim Sum. I hadn't been back to this place since Covid,and was shocked to see how run down it has become. The service was very nice and professional. The prices were decent. The Dim Sum was way too limited and no cart. It just doesn't have the great dim sum vibe. 4.5 Was a little wary at first with the graffiti outside the front of the restaurant and empty dining room when we first entered the restaurant but all the food we ordered was so delicious. I did finally notice numerous take out orders so I guess most people do take out. I'm not a fan of sweet & sour soup but the one here is so good with large shrimp pieces. Lobster was on point and the noodles underneath were perfect. My 5-yr old is not a seafood fan but loved the noodles. The basil clams were nice and plump which is usually not the case when we order this from other similar restaurants. The only complaint is our table being sticky and it was not the cleanest restaurant nor do they seem to care about decor or ambiance. Service was good though. My family and I went here looking for dim sum because we were in the area. However their selection is only limited to four items, so we had to buy other items too. I got the Yang Chow fried rice and it was decent. We also got the lo mien which is good, and the shrimp with lobster sauce was also good. The service was good. This place is a little divey but the food is exceptional. The owner /chef learned to cook in Shanghai. He did so for 5 years and has been cooking here for 14. The dining room is large. The night we were there, it was not crowded. The menu is extensive, moderately priced. They have cod, shrimp, clams, catfish, scallops, squid, crab and lobster. They have lots of soups, noodles and fried rice. I had the cod in black bean sauce. It was so good. We also had beef with ginger and onion. Our last item was lemon chicken. Suprisingly good. Truly one of the best Chinese Cuisine in the San Fernando Valley !!! This is NOT American Chinese Cuisine. If you want that try Panda Express thst is close to the same price. This family run business is on the North West Corner of Sherman Way and Reseda Blvd and is family friendly and the portions are generous where a family of 4 could have enough to eat with the regular portion size with a side order of steamed rice. This was our first time here and we will be back to try 3 more dishes of different delicacy. From Frog Legs in Butter or Black Bean Sauce to Scallop in Hot Garlic Sauce to Crispy Fried Squid in Spicy Salt. This has to be the true definition of a "hidden gem" of a restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. If it was not for the fact that I work a few blocks away, I would have never found it. OK, Reseda is not the greatest area but the restaurant has very convenient parking. If you look at the outside of the restaurant, you're not even sure if it's actually open but don't let that fool you. When you walk into the restaurant, it is clean, the tables are round and have lazy Susans in the middle of the tables. I have never actually eaten in the restaurant as we've always ordered take-out, mostly for our office parties. I am a pescatarian so I don't eat meat. Therefore, I cannot tell you firsthand how their meat items are. I only know that all my coworkers have loved everything they have ordered, including the meat and seafood. Usually there is not a single drop of food left after everybody has eaten. I will tell you that I think my favorite item is their walnut shrimp. The shrimp is so fresh and their sauce is delicious. I've also ordered their shrimp and lobster sauce and I really love their garlic shrimp. Their prices are very reasonable, and their portions are generous. Over the years the food has always been consistently excellent. This place reminds me of my family's favorite Chinese restaurant which was located downtown in old Chinatown. The food was always good and the prices were reasonable. In today's economy, I know how hard it is for small independently owned restaurants to make it. So I think it is a shame for this wonderful little "hidden gem" to stay hidden and therefore I'm writing this review to share with you. Please give this little gem of a restaurant a try. I've put this off for a long time because I LOVE A & W, my family frequents this spot because it's delicious and the service is quick and friendly, and the prices are great! ..... BUT this is a huge turn off... and I hate to write it but the place is not clean.... The last time I ordered I found HALF OF A BUG IN MY ORANGE CHICKEN!!! By the time I drove home to eat my food it was already late at night so I didn't call to complain to make them aware. It's been about 2 months now and I haven't gone back since and told my family members so they don't go back either, I hope since then they've put their cleaning practices up and maybe CHECK the food before they cook anything. It's hard for me to criticize this place much because I grew up eating here. Back when I was a young gal living with my family, we would always order our favorite noodle dish - seafood chow fun (with gravy)! It's such a simple rice noodle stir fry noodle, but the touch of smoke and char from the wok (and whatever sauce they use) gives it such a delicious touch that we cannot seem to replicate at home. The other 2 dishes that we usually get are: -Chiu chow noodle soup (see pic): rice noodle or egg noodle soup with seafood and bits of ground pork along with bok choy, WARM to the soul when you're in the mood for soup outside of the usual pho -House special cod fish: breaded cod fish stir fried in a delicoius garlicky sauce with green onions and jalepenos for a nice kick, GREAT with plain white rice to balance the saltiness I love that they have pickled jalepenos and chili oil on the table. If you want red wine vinegar, you will have to request for it. We still go here occasionally when we are in the mood. Ever since they had a change in ownership, the quality remains good, but the prices have gone up (minus one star) and it's deterring us from frequenting here as much as before. The waitresses here are very nice and accommodating to our requests. One of them knows my parents pretty well, which is a not a surprise given how much history we have with this place. Hah. I'm from the east coast (NY/NJ), and it's damn-near impossible to find a Chinese restaurant that hits the sweet spot of my east coast palate. A&W Seafood is the first place that reminded me of home. Their Lo Mein (yes, they have *LO* Mein, not just Chow Mein) is killer, the Chicken & Veggies in white sauce is perfect, and their House Special Fried Rice is so freaking delicious, I could house down an entire plate all to myself with zero regrets. The A&W at this location has been around for a long time. It was one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in the Valley but it has progressively gone down hill over the years. The food is not even a shadow of its former self. The fried hor fun was lacking in soy sauce, garlic, and wok hei and the fried fish tofu tasted like packaged stuff you get from the supermarket. This place has taken a turn for the worse. I use to come here for years to enjoy dim sum since it was the closest place in the Valley. Staples such as the pork shu mai had lost their flavor and had become large undesirable chewy balls of pork. The shrimp rice noodle was too doughy to be enjoyed and unusually chewy. The chicken feet had little to no flavor and the spare ribs were oily, fatty and bland too. What's going on here? Pre-pandemic, the crowds already started thinning out and no longer was there a 30 minute wait for a table on the weekends for dim sum. The dim sum menu items are very limited when ordering take out. Sadly, the few items they make aren't very good and it's expensive compared to other dim sum places. I have been driving all the way out to DTLA from the valley lately to get my dim sum fix. The A&W in Reseda has something I regularly crave for. I love their lo mein dish. Love the perfect texture of their noodles. It is not swimming in oil, especially at the bottom.
