I used to come to Lum Ka Naad in Encino for dinner back in the day, but I recently discovered their fabulous lunch special, and now I'm officially hooked. For just $16, you get an incredible deal : salad, eggroll, and your choice of entrée. I always order the Pad Thai with Chicken Satay lunch special (L21) , and it never disappoints. You get three large skewers of juicy chicken breast, marinated in rich Thai flavors, served with a generous portion of Pad Thai. It also comes with a small tray of peanut sauce, refreshing cucumber salad, and dipping sauce for the eggroll. The portions are satisfying and the flavors are consistently delicious. The restaurant also has great parking, which makes lunchtime super convenient. And a special shout-out to May, the manager sweet pretty Thai lady!! She is always warm, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. You can tell she cares about her guests and makes everyone feel comfortable. Visited encino branch for dinner and it was not a pleasant experience. Place is noisy and only have single restroom that was occupied when I've tried to used thrice. We've ordered a grilled mackarel and the sauce was so spicy, when I asked the server if they have a milder sauce, she said none then offered a sweet and sour sauce instead. Also, the drunken noodles was served with onions, despite food allergies was emphasized prior ordering. It was not a busy night but I only saw one server, that's why the service was slow and barely checked on us. Parking was assigned for customers so, it was all good. How fun to walked in with the karaoke Tuesday night with live band. We had the shrimp with coconut soup,beef jerky with special sauce,sautéed eggplants with beef and purple rice. Not to mentioned now they have the latest drink menu with all kind of cocktails,wines,beers and sakes. I came in today with my elderly parents, and there was a really fun karaoke guy and his wife there, he was playing guitar with the music. Somehow they managed to get me up for three songs. Food was exceptional and the ambience and general jovial party-like karaoke spirit was something you must experience. Some of it was in a foreign language, but all of it was fun. Fried chicken with noodles was really large enough for 2 people but I was feeling especially hungry and finished the whole thing in one sitting, although I was REALLY, uncomfortably, full. This Thai place is amazing. Sadly I moved away from the neighborhood and can't enjoy the food as much as before. But I dropped in a couple days ago and had lunch. It was still great! The service was fast and nice and the ambience was appealing. They were even playing Wiz Khalifa on the house speakers. Made for a comfortable experience. Great restaurant, excellent food. They specialize in Northern and Southern Thai food. We got the northern this time. Their sai oua and nam khao tod were excellent. They tear up the sausage in the nam khao tod rather than dicing it in, which lends a nice, kind of homey textural contrast rather than a homogeneous bite. Would be pleased to return for the spicy southern specialties, and it's so nice that there's great Thai this far outside of the North Hollywood and East Hollywood epicenters. read more

Im so sad to give this place 1 star, the pad thai is pretty good. However, we ordered pork ribs and it was served to us cold. The outside felt warm but when you cut into the meat, it was refrigerator cold. It was a big disappointment for us especially considering it's a pork dish. The staff were not apologetic when we made them aware and simply took our plate, recooked it, and gave it back. A bit of sympathy would have gone a long way but the lack thereof was apalling. read more

I doordashed this place just now and didn't even wait to finish my food to write this review. While the Nam Khao is not traditional, it's still good but I was surprised at how little I got for $15. Lao style nem khao tod is made with shredded coconut, peanuts, and eaten with lettuce and roasted chili pepper which this did not have The beef noodle soup had good flavor, but beef was dry, not tender or appetizing. This place never disappoints! I've been to the Reseda location too. The encino location is spacious and has easy parking. They also have comfy booths. I'm pretty basic and always get the Pad Thai, pineapple curry, green curry, and crab fried rice. The pad thai is so tasty and soft. It's the perfect amount of sweet and savory. They always add a good amount of bean sprouts and peanuts. I love their fried tofu too (in both the pad Thai and pineapple curry). This place prob has my fav pineapple curry in the valley! They add a generous amount of fried tofu and pineapple, along with green and red peppers. It's so creamy and filling! Their portions are def worth what you're paying for. The green curry is very refreshing. The purple rice pairs so well with their curries. Their crab fried rice also goes super well with curry. I tried their drunken noodle and it's SO tasty, it's not overly salty but just so savory and full of flavor! The servers are always kind and the food comes out super quick! I don't think I've ever been this turned off by food... especially not Asian food. Still, here we are. My pickup order consisted of chicken fried rice (which was a huge dump of white rice), yellow curry with (stale) brown rice, egg rolls, Thai iced tea, and what I thought was a small side of peanut sauce. What did I get instead? I got a huge thing of rice and soy sauce with a few clumps of lackluster chicken and very minimal egg. The yellow curry, which I asked to have without carrots and bell peppers, was prepared with carrots - even after I was told that it didn't come with carrots, anyway. The egg rolls tasted boiled and bland - seriously, I took one bite and we didn't touch the rest. The peanut sauce was basically the size of a miso soup and looked like almost regular peanut butter and not mixed and creamy like normal. The Thai iced tea was forgotten and we waited a bit for them to make it - and, yes, I have a complaint with that: $6 for basic Thai iced tea is rich, especially in this economy. Yet, it was still the highlight of this meal. All this for $50. And guess what? We barely touched it. Seriously, I have never ever ever ever been so underwhelmed. When you come here, the fully empty parking lot with a handful of employee parking in the back should speak volumes. Update from the morning after: my partner was sick to his stomach last night and this morning. Guess that was the exclamation point on a bad dinner. :( read more

OMG! I didn't expect the food will be super authentically delicious . I ended up ordering many dishes. I mainly ordered Thai Northern & Southern food today because not every Thai restaurant has it. Tum Kanoon ( Jack Fruit Salad) this dish is very delicious to me. It is pan fried jackfruit paste with garlic, curry paste, ground pork, tomato and kaffir lime leaves. It served with steamed cabbage and crispy pork skin. How can I explain the taste!!! Well..if i close my eyes and chew it, it tastes like Italian tomato sauce with cheese!!!! Lol... It is slightly salty, good kaffir lime leaf smell, smooth and soft! Hor Noong (steamed chicken in banana leaf). 1 order came with 2 pieces. Good size! Chicken was juicy, not too spicy. I can smell the banana leaf which elevated the taste. Lanna Hin-Le (Stewed Pork Curry). This curry is Thai-Burmese. I could taste its sourness either from tamarind or pickled garlic juice. And it had nice aroma from the dried spices. It was pretty good Pork was tender and juicy. It went well with the fresh shredded ginger that came on top. Kuah Gling Chicken. This dish is Thai southern dish. It is dried curry and pretty spicy. I could taste and smell turmeric, galangal and lemongrass. The chicken was on the dry side, many Thai restaurants use this similar type of chicken.... Cut flat. Not sure why but...it was still yummy. In Thailand it's usually ground chicken. The taste itself is very authentic though. Sator & Shrimp - sauté Sator (stinky bean from Thai southern area) , ground pork & Shrimp with shimp paste. This dish is lovely. Normally shrimp paste was very salty but this dish had a good level of saltiness. The beans were crunchy and big size. It not that stinky as it's name...love it. I ordered a couple more dishes To go. I will update later. Service was good! Food is tasty... and I'm from Thailand so I grew up with this food. Not sure what some other reviewers are talking about. Did they go to a different restaurant? Maybe they ordered the boring typical Thai food every other restaurant has? Please try their Northern and Southern specialties. That's where it's at. I recommend it. Parking in rear ! The food here is mediocre at best. The food is overpriced and unoriginal, not to mention under seasoned and everything tastes the same. We spent a couple of hundred dollars here and walked away very unhappy. Bring a bullhorn if you want to communicate at your table, the concrete floors and high ceilings makes this place virtually impossible to hear anyone at the table, even if they're sitting right next to you, especially if there is a large, loud party anywhere in your vicinity. You may as well be sitting at a table next to the 405. It's that bad. Save your money. There are better Thai places to eat at in the neighborhood. read more

Delicious food and wonderful service! We dined-in last Monday @ 6 pm. We were greeted upon arrival and were quickly seated. Seating were spaced out and staff wore masks. Our server Bottawan and other staff were friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered tasted great and the portions were great for sharing. We also ordered a large rice to enjoy with the dishes. The Thai style papaya salad (choice of 3 flavors: Thai Style, Salted crab flavor, or pickled fish flavored) tasted light and fresh, loved the crispy (pompano) fish that was topped w/ fried garlic and served w/ a seafood sauce on the side.
