Our service was prompt and friendly. Both our drinks were very good; I had the red velvet, which offers a fresh raspberry flavor and goes down as easily as fruit juice! Came here with a friend for brunch, and overall I thought the experience was pretty mid. We ordered the French toast, hash browns, crepes with ricotta, and a couple of drinks (the butterfly lemonade and matcha). The crepes were good, but nothing particularly memorable or unique. The drinks were fine as well, but didn't really stand out. The biggest disappointment was probably the French toast. It looked absolutely beautiful and was very Instagram worthy, but the taste didn't live up to the presentation. It honestly tasted like regular toasted white bread and lacked sweetness or flavor on its own. It came with several sauces on the side that were meant to add flavor, but I found those pretty underwhelming as well. The hash browns, however, were excellent. They were easily the highlight of the meal, and I have no complaints there. One thing that stood out was the seating. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty aside from two other couples. Despite there being plenty of open tables, we were seated right next to them. It felt a little awkward, and the couple beside us seemed somewhat uncomfortable with how close everyone was seated when there was so much available space. Service was decent, friendly enough, but nothing particularly noteworthy. Overall, I left feeling underwhelmed. My friend recommended we check it out as it was on our way to The Grove. The aesthetics were cool. After a 30min wait the staff was able to get us in with no reservation. We didn't expect this as there was a line going out the door and it was a hour and a half before closing time. I came across Mood on Third after seeing a ton of great reviews, and I totally get why people talk about it. The vibe is real. It feels lively, multicultural, and honestly kind of fun just sitting there and hearing different languages all around you. We didn't have reservations and still got seated right away, which was a huge plus, but MAKE RESERVATIONS because that's literally the first thing they ask and it just makes everything smoother. The staff is incredibly attentive, constantly checking in, asking what you need next, making sure everything is moving. The food came out fast too, which I appreciated. You can tell they're really on top of their operation, and the energy from the team is genuinely warm and welcoming. Now, the reason I can't give it a full five stars is the seating situation. It's tight. Like, really tight. You are basically side by side with strangers, close enough to hear their entire conversation while they hear yours. You can actually feel how slightly uncomfortable people are when they first sit down, including us. I get that they're trying to maximize space, but it definitely takes away from the overall comfort. As for the food, it was good, just not something I'd personally come back for. It didn't wow me flavor-wise, even though everything looked great and came out quickly. Also, I always find it a little funny when they immediately ask "sparkling or tap," because you already know they're trying to nudge that bill up. Just know that you need a reservation on Sundays--the place is packed and definitely more of a scene than I expected, which honestly makes me hesitant to come back. Parking is another challenge. There's no valet and it's very difficult to find parking, so plan extra time if you decide to go. One thing they mention quickly that you should really pay attention to: they limit your table to an hour and a half. I personally think that's a pretty frustrating policy. It's the kind of menu where you could bring a mixed group and everyone would find something they want. We ordered the Shakshuka and the Chicken Schnitzel. Both were very good. My only nitpick: the Shakshuka could've been hotter, and it came with an aggressive amount of cilantro. I like cilantro, but that was pushing it. The best part was that I didn't feel like I "rolled" out of there after having a heavy breakfast. Overall, a solid experience. We came for dinner last night and were genuinely impressed. They're currently testing their dinner menu, and everything we tried was delicious. The tuna tartare was incredibly fresh, the beef tartare was amazing and served in a beautiful, authentic way, the shrimp skewers were perfectly cooked, and the falafel and truffle fries disappeared way too fast. The tiramisu was the perfect ending to the meal -- light, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The food, presentation, and overall experience felt far beyond what we expected. You can tell there's a lot of care and creativity behind every dish. Also, it's great that they now serve wine -- a glass of wine with food this good just makes the evening even better. Mood stands out in the neighborhood with its well groomed Zen bushes and quirky two story grey buildings. The name of the restaurant was innocently displayed at the second floor so you'd easily recognize it while trying to cross the calm intersection. The restaurant was covered with shades but the warming California sunshine still effortlessly fills the entire space. For a very long time I loath how heavy brunch feels to me with all the unnecessary and repetitive cheese, butter and sugar in the morning. Great white is the first that changed my mind and Mood is undoubtedly the second. The tuna bowl is a no brainer for me. I am surprised by how refreshing it was. Of course plenty of sauce was on the side, but the salad, the cucumber, the quinoa were all subtly seasoned by themselves so I was constantly putting my utensils back to my plates for a second bite. The Ukrainian brunch place's best dish in my opinion is their syrniki. A pancake made with cottage cheese. Three cute chubby cottage cheese pancakes just lied there peacefully in a Saturday afternoon, underneath them is the warming mango custard, the perfect California vibe! Unfortunately, my steak came out well done and the eggs were over hard essentially. I was hungry so I ate the steak but asked for the eggs to be remade. They came out correctly the second time but without the seasoning was on the other eggs. The meal was 4/10 honestly. More plated for aesthetics and a picture than concerned with flavor. We were sat at a round table on the other side of a couple because they said all their other tables were reserved for lunch. They had heaters on but it was hard to feel the warmth and they also gave us a (refused)blanket once we asked which was nice!
