We came all the way from the far southeast side to try this spot. It was pretty good as far as customer service, and I really like the old-school drive-in feel to the restaurant. They seem to be pretty popular in the area. We had the Superdawgs, the Whoopercheesie, and a black kow (Rootbeer float). All were prepared nicely, were fresh and tasty and still warm when we made it home to eat them. The food and customer service was over all Great, but I'm not sure if it's worth the long drive. Such a fun twist on fast food with the family or a fast food date night with a nostalgic feel or blast from the past. We love driving up here every few months and it's nice to not have to get out of the car because we'll usually have our dog. Just pull up, take a look at the menu, call the button, and place your order. Friendly & fast service with the option of card or cash. I've been inside to the walk up service and they have a bar to stand and eat on the go. They also have a couple tables outdoors to park and eat if you'd like. We've take advantage of both options but the walk up delivery to our car is our favorite of course. I love their hot dogs - a perfect classic. They also have a great burger and their onion chips have been a favorite of ours these last few visits. Every meal is complemented with a shared root beer float of course! My not so favorite include their fish sandwich and tamales. The fish had an off taste from the oil and gave me too much of a frozen feel. I've been spoiled by Culver's fast food fish though which can't be beat. Their tamale is also an acquired taste and I've learned this is a Chicago style tamale. I know this place is iconic, and if I were visiting this part of Chicago it's a "must go to" place, but I don't love it. You drive up to a booth with a menu and speaker. Person takes your order, you wait in your car for about 10 min, and they bring you the food. You can pay by cash or credit. You then either take the food home or eat in your car. Food is just OK. I mean...it's hot dogs and hamburgers so nothing you can really mess up. The fries were crispy but probably because they were too overfried. I came here to support an elementary school's fundraiser. Superdawg, by many, is considered one of Chicago's great institutions. With its proximity to O'Hare and giant hot dog statues sitting on top, it's pretty hard to miss for anyone coming through. Its been around well before I was born and something I've always associated with the north side of Chicago. Today I figured after probably a decade since I've last had it, I was craving some good ol' fashioned encased meat. However, it was a bit of a disappointment. Opted to get a whoopskidawg since I was craving a polish sausage. As a drive-in, it's nice that you can just order and eat from your car (or the tables outside). The wait can feel a bit long especially when it's busy, but not terrible. The whoopskidawg though I just found to be a bit bland. The sausage itself was nice and snappy, but the bun just felt a bit stale and also ripped at the seam already so it might as well have just been two buns. The onions it was served with didn't really add much. I think the fact that it's minced doesn't help. The pickle wasn't very snappy either. The fries I know some people aren't a bit fan of. I thought they were fine, but nothing remarkable. For $15 after tax/tip, I was left really disappointed. I understand superdawg is such an iconic spot so I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to try it. And chances are it'll be a solid experience, but in my opinion there are just quite a few better Chicago style hot dog spots and polish sausage spots in the city that I'd recommend over this. read more

Fun place to have hot dogs. You can sit in the car and eat it after ordering it on the buzzer in your parking spaces. Also outdoor seating. Nothing indoors. You can order at the store or on the buzzer from your car. The hot dog is all beef they state, comes w options of onion, relish, mustard, ketchup for the basic hot dog deal and it come with crinkle cut fries that are lightly crispy on the outside. Great fast meal. My superdawg (the basic hotdog w toppings and fries) was $8.65 plus tax and came out in 2 min before I could even imagine it. It came out fresh and hot. But adding onions and relish to the dog makes the bun soggy so next time I will ask for the bun separately. One wish: I would have loved the dog to be grilled instead of steamed so it could have that smoked texture and smell. In short: -kid found hair in his dog. -Burgers were overcooked and under-seasoned. -waitress gave me the the check with a tip locked in at 20 percent, not easy to edit, but I was able to get it it a lil lower. -after the almost 20 percent tip, we never saw her again. -food prices are high now. My favorite hot dog place in chicago! Ambience is perfect and I love the drive in vibes. Yes, it's expensive for a small box of food but it's a chicago classic. Service can sometimes take a while in car when there's a big line but nothing too crazy. Admittedly I don't go here often and usually head to portillos which tastes the same for half the price. I don't regret going, but this definitely did not live up to my expectations. First, this is a drive in with a few tables along the sidewalk (no shelter from sun or elements at tables). No restroom or inside access. This didn't bother me, but it may matter to some people. It's tough to hear the server through the speaker, so some people may prefer going to the walk up window. Service was basic, but fast. I ordered the signature Superdawg and fries. The dawg was slopped together. While I could taste the tart of the green tomato and the spice of the peppers, everything else just ran together. No succinct flavors. The fries were ok, several were burned. It was fine. A Superdawg is not exactly a traditional Chicago dog. But with a pickle spear on it and neon green relish and celery salt and sport peppers, it is definitely in that wheelhouse. But the all beef dog is way bigger. It's a monster dog. And it's got that crazy wedge of pickled green tomato on it. And it comes packed in tight with a faceful of crispy, twice fried and incredibly delicious crinkle cut fries. I can't guarantee it, but I think since Susie's drive-in closed, Superdawg may now have the best fries in Chicago. Their chocolate malts are like a liquid heart attack, but they go great with those fries. The burgers are solid too. Drive in and order the old-timey way without ever getting out of your car. Or just go in and order. You can carry it back out to your car or you can eat it outside if it's nice weather. Their little barebones dining area has been converted to storage since the pandemic so that's not an option anymore. Get extra napkins because you will get condiments all over you. What a fun spot! This is your long-lost park and order spots that there should be more of. I went on a Sunday afternoon and was promptly served once I parked my car. I ordered the go-to Superdawg (with fries) and it was very tasty. All the fixings that a Chicago dog would have and quite enjoyed the green tomato that was a nice change from the ordinary. I was under the impression it was more of a fast food joint, but it took a little longer than that. I will say the service was fantastic for a drive-in. We had a very friendly gentleman take our order and bring out our food. I ordered the supercheesie burger with everything (grilled onions). I thought it tasted just okay. It comes with mustard, a relish type sauce, and grilled or chopped onions. They also provide hot peppers, pickle spear, and a sliced tomato? I've never seen a tomato on the side like that but I appreciate that they are generous with the hot peppers. They offer ketchup packets on the side too. I believe my fries were old, too. This was my 1st visit to Super Dawg. I must say I cannot believe what I have been missing all these years. The Superdawg was big, I want to guess it is a 1/4lb dog. I opted not to get the fries, as others said the Onion Chips were better. The onion chips were great. Pieces of onion chunks, breaded and fried. Sat outside, nice breeze. Seems the indoor dining area is not open. The speed of service was just okay. They were busy though so I can't complain. I will be back sometime. TL;DR: Superdawg was a fine first venture into the expansive world of Chicago-style hot dogs, but in my opinion, it's not worth the hype. After my friend picked me up from O'Hare, we immediately made a bee line to Superdawg. Before my flight, I had already pored over multiple lists of famous hotdog restaurants in Chicago and decided on this spot since it was on the way to his apartment. I knew I had to try the Superdawg with Superfries ($8.65). We arrived at around 4:00 PM on a Saturday, so it wasn't terribly busy, and there were plenty of open car spots. I believe you can order inside, but we parked the car in an open spot and ordered through the speaker system by pressing the button on the left and waiting until an employee greeted us. There's also a toggle switch on the right to notify an employee to pick up empty trays, but we didn't use this function because our food came in a takeout bag. My order was completed relatively fast, and the employee brought the food out to the car. The payment process was a little awkward since they held onto the credit card reader and instead asked if I wanted to tip, so I felt obligated to. There are about three or four blue tables outside if you want to feel the breeze on your face while you sit and feast. And this way, you can look up at the two quaint iconic hotdog statues overseeing the restaurant. Summarized from their website, the Superdawg comes in a cute blue box containing a pure beef hotdog on a poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, piccalilli (the neon artificial green relish), one kosher dill pickle spear, chopped onions, and some hot peppers. Although not mentioned on their website, the order also comes with a pickled green tomato segment nestled next to the hotdog and on top of their Superfries (crinkle-cut fries). Napkins and ketchup packets were included in the takeout bag; obviously, ketchup should only be used for the fries. Eating the Superdawg is definitely a messy experience due to all the trimmings, so make sure to have the napkins close at hand. But honestly, I don't get the hype around it, especially since it costs over $9 after tax and tip, and the amount of food you get makes it more of a snack rather than an actual meal. The hotdog wasn't anything special. I'm also not a fan of tomatoes, so the pickled tomato was a miss for me. The fries were just mediocre, and my friend agreed. So I'm left wondering if I could've gotten a similar experience for cheaper at another Chicago dog joint. read more

This 1000 places to visit before you die spot finally made it to my bucket list so here we are. Superdawgs has been around for over 70 years and it brings that drive-in nostalgia right to today. I ordered a Chardog with everything (pro tip: get the char over the boiled so it's made fresh takes less than 10 min). The dog had a great bite to it and the classic relish and onion and mustard round all all the fat tiniest of the dog with that little extra acid. There are fries that get shoved in the box but are just a little too soggy. The malt chocolate shake is a classic and Superdawgs does classics well, so not overly sweet and not too chunky. You can get your delicious dog with the works, which will include mustard, relish, onion, a pickle spear, and a funky green tomato. We got two superdawg and one whoopskidawg and few drinks. If Superdawg is the standard for Chicago Style hotdog, then I was disappointed.
