Great experience. Jay spent a lot of time answering questions around what parts they use and pricing and was very patient while I shopped around to get quotes for some work on our Audi Q5. Their prices matched the lowest quotes I received and it was an easy decision to go with Superior considering how quickly Jay would respond to my inquiries and never did I feel pressured to make a decision or to choose them. They quoted the job to take a little over a day but they were able to get the car done in a day and kept me updated throughout on progress. All the staff I spoke to was very kind and pleasant to deal with. They also warranty their work although I hope to never have to use it. I've been using Superior for years, with multiple vehicles. I've used them for servicing higher-end cars to simple pick up trucks. My observation is that they are consistently honest and do not try to gouge me. My favorite anecdote from Superior is that once I had a late-model Infiniti that was due for its 30K servicing. The Infiniti dealer wanted something in the range of $1K for this service. I took the vehicle to Superior for the same service. They quoted me much less (I don't remember the price) but after dropping off the vehicle, they called me the same day and told me the vehicle was ready. I remember saying something to the effect of "that was fast" to which they responded along the lines of "Yeah, it doesn't take long when the vehicle doesn't need anything done to it". This left a positive impression with me. I had the mindset that this was a major service (because of how much the dealer wanted to charge) and I would have been happy if Superior came in under that, even if just a bit. They could have gotten much more money out of me but instead they determined that the vehicle was fine and didn't need anything significant replaced. The price for the service was a small fraction of what the dealer wanted. I always recommend these guys. read more

This is my first Yelp review, but I had such a positive experience with the folks at Superior Auto Service that I wanted to give them some customer-service kudos. I'm a relatively new car owner, so when my husband and I noticed a very strange sound coming from our 2006 Rav4, I looked on Yelp, saw the positive reviews, and called these guys up. They were courteous, friendly, and explained how they would check for the problem (said how much they charged for labor when diagnosing the problem, then said that they would call us with a diagnosis and not do anything to the car without our permission). When we got the diagnosis, they had not only found the problem, but also some other issues, but they were very honest in explaining what issues were bigger, and which issues could wait a bit (like certain fluid levels being a little low). We had the work done, and the price was as estimated. Then, a few weeks later, both my husband and I noticed that the car seemed to be lacking some power, so I called Superior Auto Service to see if they could check on it, as I wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the work we had had done. Here's where I felt that their level of customer service went above and beyond. They checked the car free of charge, and even had the owner drive it to see if he could feel anything. They didn't find anything, but were very thorough, and said that if we wanted they could try a few things out on the vehicle, but that all of their tests (which they listed in detail to me) indicated that everything was good to go. I haven't been to any other car dealers aside from oil-change places, but these folks won me over. We'll be going to them for all of our future car repairs, including regular oil changes. read more

I am writing this review partly to bring superior auto services poor service to light as well as to call yelp out for silencing a review from a friend of mine that was a first hand witness of the poor service that i received at superior auto. I took my van to superior when my serpentine belt started making a considerable noise. I dropped the van off in the morning and took the bus to work. They called me later that day with an estimate. The belt needed to be replaced as well as the automatic tension pulley. They quoted me over $400 for the whole job. Unfortunately, i panicked and didn't have enough confidence in my own maintenance repair abilities and authorized them to complete the work. When i got the call the next day i was happy to find out that the job was complete but to my dismay they claimed that my alternative had seized and needed to be replaced. I asked how much that would cost and they told me that it would be $300+. I was confused by this price since i had just recently priced an alternator at o'reilly's for $50. It turned out that the proper alternator was $80 but it was far less than the $135 that superior quoted me. I've always been under the impression that shops made their money from diagnostics fees and hourly rates and parts came from wholesale houses for cheaper than retail and honest shops didn't mark up their parts. In light of finding out that they were overcharging me i told them i would not have them replace the alternator. They claimed that i could not take the van because the alternator was seized and i would ruin the new belt that had just been put in. I felt that they were trying to corner me and force me to have them replace the alternator. This stiffened my resolve to get my van out of their shop and never use them again. I had a friend come and tow me out of the shop and across the street to my place where i decided to take the alternator out myself. I had the belt off in a half an hour and the alternator out in aother half. Then when i got it out i found that the alternator spun just fine. Even if it didn't spin as well under load it still would have gotten me across the street which is where i told them i lived. Besides seized in my dictionary means does not turn which it clearly did turn. After finishing i looked at the breakdown of the work done and they charged me $60 for the serpentine belt and it is sold at o'reilly's for $40 and that was the premium quality, their highest and o'reilly's charged $80 for the complete automatic tension pulley part when superior charged me $140. In fact every part that superior put into my van cost more than retail. Its not just the over charging that bothers me. Its the intimidation and lying that this company used to to try to over sell and over charge me. Then to top it off superior got yelp to remove a review from an eyewitness to these business proceedings to keep their story about a company's corruption quiet. I wonder to myself if they will do the same to this review which also calls into question the whole review writing process on yelp. i guess it doesn't really matter superior will just have people write a bunch of fake reviews to bury this one. that's ok i still got my public service announcement out: Be warned and do not give superior auto service your business or you may be over charged or intimidated or lied to in order to get you to have them do more work on your vehicle. This was my 2nd time I took my car there.. The first time, I was happy but what needs to be done was a very straight and simple job...... So here is the reason of my 1 star review... I took my car there, because the car was stalling at low RPMs.... So they did check my car, but instead of actually checking my car, after a day having my car there, obviously they just read the OBDII scanner results (which you can do at no cost at any auto shop).. They said, they couldn't find what was really happening, but they recommended a $1500 tune up on my car...... But they weren't sure if this would resolve my problem, but they recommend it.. I took to a different mechanic.... He told me that the first thing to be checked out was my spark plugs (which Superior Auto Did) and the second thing was check my fuel pressure..... Guess what.... The issue was with the Fuel Pressure.. I had only 10psi pressure instead of 50+ psi... The total cost to me was $350 and the car works perfectly..... Wow what can i say....... If I was a stupid guy I was going to spend $1500 and would get my car back in the same condition....... Where another mechanic took only 5 mins to find the issue?? Unbelievable.....! read more

Cheats! They tried using scare tactics to sell me on job worth $2000, which ended up costing me only $50!!! When I confronted them, they resorted to vague references to OEM parts (nothing specific). A quick search of those same parts showed that they're charging almost 2.5 times the retail price. Needless to say that the labor cost was just as outrageous with no details on the breakdown of the time spent on it. My advise, if you do end up going there, do your own research. read more

Having just moved to Ballard, I was not thrilled on the idea of needing to locate a new mechanic. Fortunately, after doing some research on yelp, I stumbled upon this amazing place! Without an appointment and the very real possibility of my car imploding they took my keys with a reassuring smile and said if I didn't hear from them by that evening to expect an estimate the following morning. Not only was the price reasonable they had my car all fixed up and ready to go by dinner time the next day. I chose to take my Pathfinder to Superior Auto solely based on Yelp reviews - and they did not disappoint! From the very first call, Sarah was very welcoming and personable. Being a woman, it was surprising and refreshing to hear her voice on the other end of the phone. And she knew her shit too... I dropped my car off for a routine oil change and a checkup b/c my 90K service was due. Charlie was great - he broke all the services down based on priority...with pricing and everything. This way I could chip away at the otherwise staggering amount (~$800) in scheduled oil change increments. Every step of the way, I never felt "talked down to" - they offer exceptional technical expertise AND customer service. They don't do tires as their main stream of business, but Charlie was more than happy to bring some in when mine needed to be replaced. I shopped around (because they aren't specifically a tire shop), and he was still the lowest price! I dropped my car off, went for a coffee, came back and was ready to go. Thanks guys! Love, love, love, love, LOVE these guys! I stopped taking my new car to the dealership and went back to Superior because they are so awesome. I appreciate that they treat me like a knowledgeable customer (I used to build cars with my dad), are courteous, professional, prompt, and affordable. The cost of oil changes and checks are HALF that of a typical dealership, but with the same level of professional service. I would trust this shop with any of my automotive needs (they've been equally awesome with a Ford and a Volkswagen). You can't go wrong by taking your car to Superior. read more

Just drove my car all the way out here from Florida. Needed a tire rotation and had them check my oil. Called around first to check other pricing in the area and Superior was not only the least expensive, but I felt the most honest and informed. Superior was able to take my Jeep in last minute and pretty much saved my holiday weekend, despite them being very busy (was obvious with the number of cars parked around the shop). They were easy to work with and communicated well throughout the whole process of replacing my camshaft sensor. The price was fair and the work was quick. We took our van to superior auto for a brake job. They supposedly fixed the brakes (about $1000) but then supposedly a new brake part broke within 10 miles (another $300). Not to mention when we dropped our van off for brake fix # 2 we told them from the very beginning "please park the van headlights faced into your building" because if it rains heavily water will get in through the air conditioner with an incorrect angle (it's a camper van & no this is NOT a leak - it's a design flaw). They told us they would listen but when we picked up the van it was parked incorrectly (nose out) and the entire interior bed cushions were soaked and there was so much water it had even rolled to the front of the van and flooded the carpet area near the driver and passenger seat. My husband called them after driving away, to tell them of the issue but all he got was a "I'll pass the word along to your service advisor." No apologies or anything. They even tried to tell us "we don't know how long it was parked outside before we brought it in last night"...like it was our bad parking job?? Or, like they thought we were trying to say they should have kept it inside the entire time - which isn't true. Thanks - but not really. This took us a half a week to deal with and left our van mold/mildew susceptible. Plus we never heard back from our "service advisor" with any additional apology or remedy. We will never take our vehicle there again. Updating 12/2/17: After my original review, above, I was contacted by the business and they helped remedy the situation. read more

Had my spark plugs changed here, A+ shop. I dropped in, picked up one of their techs, drove to work and after some good conversation they drove my truck back to their shop to do the work. Yes, wow. I yelped these folks when I first moved to Seattle, and they have exceeded expectations. I've brought my car there for everything from basic maintenance to some strange break problems, and everytime, they've done a great job. They've usually sent me home paying less than I expect. e.g. They've told me I really don't need certain services even when I -- uninformed -- asked for them. And they're just generally Nice...unstressed but still timely and on top of their work. Also, there's a knowledgeable woman at the desk, and I, also a woman, always feel treated with respect and never have the "oh no I have to talk to the repair shop" feeling. read more

I had been recommended these guys from a friend who used to get her car fixed here back in the day. From the first time I called them all the way to picking up my car, these guys were professional, SUPER friendly, and the price was reasonable. In fact, I had a noise my car was making only when I would drive it, so one of the mechanics even went for a long ride with me to hear what I was talking about. Being new to Seattle I relied pretty heavily on reviews to point me in the right direction, and in the case of Superior Auto Service they did not let me down! I brought my car in there at first for a simple oil change. I didn't really want to wait in the waiting room and they pointed me to an adorable breakfast place across the street. Before I knew it an hour had passed and they were already done with my car! I was very impressed. So, when it came time to get some real work done on my car (replacing struts) I turned to Superior knowing I would get honest service and a great deal. Once again they proved me right! After all the work was done they even printed out my CarFax for me for free so I could use it in any future re-sale of my car. I recommend this place to all my friends. read more

Took my car in for a full vehicle inspection. Staff is friendly and real helpful. Part of the inspection includes taking photos of any issues they come across or any recommendations of services that are needed. After which they break it down for you and explain it in a way that makes it easy for someone without car knowledge to understand. They were able to finish the inspection in a timely manner and sooner than I'd expect (I was told at the beginning they originally had it as a drop off appointment) but once they knew I had to sit there and wait they got it done within a hour. Seemed to be a very straight forward and honest auto shop. I think this is the case with any shop if you did some looking around, but their prices are better then some and pricier then others. I'll add that they were having a special for the full car inspection and it was the best around town. I made the half hour commute north just to get it done. read more

Besides my hometown mechanic's shop, this is the only garage I've been where they didn't try to upsell me on additional services while I was there -- a pleasant surprise. What a find! I was driving home form work and noticed my right front turn signal wasn't working on my '07 Camry. Thinking it was be a simple I bulb replacment, I stopped by an auto parts store and purchased the bulb but what I though would be a simple proceedure was anything but! It turned out you have to unbolt the cowling in the wheel well just to get to it! On my way into work the next day, since I was heading doen Leary Way I pulled into Superior. I asked if they could chage it. Even though I didn't have an appointment they got me in and I was out in 10 minuets! Now that's what I call service!!! It was my first time into Superior but definatley not my last. The waiting area is clean, the staff very personal and they're great mechanics. What more could you ask for? read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been taking my car to Superior Auto Service for five years, and will continue to do so until the end of time. Sarah and Charlie at the front desk are top-notch, awesome people. They really take the time to get to know you and your car. They are always up front and honest about repairs that need to be done now vs. what can wait until later. When I told them I planned to do my engine tune-up myself to save money, they were very supportive, and even gave me some pointers! I have been taking our car here for a while to get the oil changed and have been perfectly pleased with service. The reason for only 3 stars is a result from my last experience. I have an 86 CJ7 that was sputtering. I decided to take it to the guys at superior for a diagnosis. I was informed that the carb was the issue and was advised to have it rebuilt. Since the car is old, I asked if I should pay to have the carb replaced. The answer was no...a rebuild is as good as new. Based on this advice I agreed to a rebuild. The woman who picked up the carb apparently mentioned that she hoped it wasn't the mixture control solenoid because this particular one isn't available any longer. I picked the Jeep up after the carb was rebuilt and installed. The next morning I noticed that the same problem existed. I called Superior and later dropped the car off for further tweaks. They also replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel lines. When I returned to pick the car up I was notified that the mixture control solenoid was worn out. The mechanic advised me to install a new carb. I explained that they were the ones who advised me to get it rebuilt. So long story short....I spent roughly $675 for a rebuilt carb (didn't fix the problem) + $80 on a new fuel filter (didn't fix the problem). The jeep still runs like crap and the one part i need is no longer available. My advise to anyone reading this is to take your car to multiple mechanics before making any decisions. I'm in for $750 and the problem still exists. read more

Was glad to have this place nearby when my car broke down, I had no idea where to go since I had never had any problems with it so I chose the closet place to my house in case I needed to walk to and from it. Without going into the long story of my car I'll say that they were honest, fast and I appreciated the communication I got from them. Might have been a little pricey but I really don't know since it's been a long time since I've had a car worked on, either way though I'd go back since they seem trustworthy. read more

This team goes way above and beyond, highly recommended! As we were just about to leave for a seven-hour drive for the fourth of July we noticed one of our tires was low on air. Despite a mile of other cars also checking in before their trips, someone was able to quickly help troubleshoot the issue. As it turned out, a nail was caught in the tire, which could have deflated (womp womp) our trip. The team was able to quickly patch the tire and send us on our way, while refusing any form of payment. This could have easily ruined our trip and Superior, but as a company that stands up to their name, they acted superiorly on all accounts. read more
