If you're wondering when jury duty service is complete, well, it is "when you've either reported for one day and weren't selected for a trial, or you served on a trial until it concluded, fulfilling your civic duty for about a year." Anyway, it is not a very big courthouse. Free parking is available. When I got here, it was a full house. I barely got a parking spot and made my appointment on time. So come early if you can. After entry into the building, I had to walk through security screening. Security staff was nice. He directed me to where I needed to go... the Jury Room. Thank you Sir! After entry into the Jury Room, I got in line to check-in. Room was clean. Chairs were well organized and aligned. There were about 20 people already seated. Lady staff who helped me at the window was nice and friendly. I informed her about my upcoming appointments and if she could extend my jury duty service for another week or so before year ends. She was able to do that for me. Thank you so much Miss! Next time I'll have to stay and fulfill my jury duty service either be selected or be excused. Or call the courthouse the business night after 5:00 PM before my next day appointment and confirm if I am to report for jury duty service or I am excused. I explained to her i only wanted a copy of CH-120 and she said "we don't help with family law"! When i clearly just wanted "copies" i got last week no excuses. Thats all i was asking for. This involves a discussion, either in person or by phone, to attempt to resolve the issue without court intervention. The meet and confer must occur at least five days before the responsive pleading is due. The defendant's attorney lied and said she tried to reach me by phone! The demurrer automatically gave her 30 days more to file her answer to my complaint. I checked my cell phone records for a call from that attorney, and there was no record of a call. I called the attorney and asked her to send me her phone record. She sent me her phone record, and the call was only 4 seconds long! She dialed my number and hung up immediately. She didn't have her answer ready so she lied in order to get 30 more days to respond. She committed perjury, and I charged her with perjury in my complaint! The clerk at the Antelope valley courthouse accidentally filed the limited case at their courthouse. Michael Antonvich in Antelope valley does not handle limited court cases, so the case was transferred to the Spring Street courthouse in Los Angeles. The commissioner that heard the case was not interested in the fact that the attorney committed perjury! My case was against a government agency. When big money government agencies are involved, the lying crooked judges and commissioners will take bribes! I am sure most people have watched Judge Mathis. He has thrown out many cases for perjury! In fact, under this civil code perjury is mentioned!

I came to visit friends that weren't going to trial so I can say - listen, if you have to go to this courthouse... you have no idea what a hassle it is to go to other courthouses in LA County. This one at least has parking, friendly and helpful staff and a very new, clean facility. I also felt safe there. It's hot as hades there but... that really isn't the courthouse's fault. You're in the high dessert. Bring sunscreen. I got a tan just driving there.

Having said that, no one visits the courthouse just for kicks so my review has to include my reason for being there (over and over and over again)- jury duty- and that's why there are three stars missing. Even with pandemic precautions, this process feels remarkably inefficient and inconsiderate of the time, distance, and effort involved in doing one's civic duty. It took four visits to the courthouse before I finally learned I wouldn't be assigned to a trial and two of those visits seemed entirely pointless. For one visit I filled out a form that I easily could have completed online if it had been available and then was told to come back the next week. For my second visit, I sat there for a while and was then told to come back four hours later. In a pandemic, I am not sure why those two unnecessary visits couldn't have been streamlined. There's also minimal information provided while you're in the middle of this process so you have no idea if your life is now a Kafkaesque Groundhog Day of fruitless courthouse visits or if these trips have an end point. When I asked a clerk, she replied "It's up to the judge." Speaking of the judge, he was pleasant and engaging and the bailiffs were friendly and helpful. Once voir dire (vwär dir, folks, please) began on my third visit, it all actually became very interesting though I felt awful for the folks having to answer brutally invasive questions in front of a room full of strangers. I also felt bad for myself for having to sit in a room with several people who hadn't mastered mask-wearing and had their masks below their noses. Overall, I think the individual people in the system are doing their best to keep the system working within highly abnormal conditions but the process is antiquated, inefficient, and, in a pandemic, risky.

There are so many inefficiencies in the system. I don't think the government system takes feedback or makes process improvements, but hopefully this review helps someone with their Jury Duty experience. At this courthouse, you receive a summons and you actually have to CALL 5pm the day prior to check if you need to physically come in. Considering they made me go online and fill in all this stuff, why can't I check some status online? If you have to report in person, the dress code is business casual. Although I feel like a lot of people were way more casual casual and they weren't sent home to change like the threat on the phone. In the room where the potential jurors meet, we were told to listen to a video but the TVs were unevenly distributed and the audio was awful. Then when we were suppose to find ourselves on these lists, the names were written in a thin white font that was hard to read. A lot of do this and wait, do this and wait. During one of my breaks I went to the restroom on first floor and it really needs renovations. No automated/sensors. In the women's bathroom on 1st 2 out of 4 sinks were broken. Then I made the mistake of getting a snack at the café inside the courthouse. Since they have no competition and they're the only option, they get to be slow inefficient and burn your food... in my case burnt my food twice. It was also so hectic as they didn't take names down, they just called out the type of order, so if multiple people ordered the same thing they all go up and look confused. I waited for ever for them to call me back saying they forgot what I ordered... Then it was burnt. I came back... They remade it... Burnt again. Pointless. I didn't have time to deal with them a third time. On a more positive note, this is the furthest I made it along in the jury selection process. I won't give any detail to maintain the confidentiality but I can say they ask questions to make sure there are no conflict of interest or strong biases that would negatively affect either parties. It was nice to see the justice system at work. Obviously the Jury Duty experience is a civic duty, but the courthouse really need some renovations to make the jury experience less awful.

Mostly…read more I actually visited the West Covina Courthouse for a background check related to a job and needed documentation showing I have no criminal record. I arrived around 2:30 PM, and honestly the most annoying part was parking. Finding a spot wasn't too difficult, but the walk from the parking area to the courthouse entrance felt like it was on the complete opposite side of the property. Add a little afternoon sun, and it became a mini workout. Once inside, though, everything was surprisingly smooth. Security moved quickly, the staff were organized, and I was directed to the criminal clerk's office. The employee who helped me was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, efficient, and had me taken care of in no time. I also stopped by the small claims/civil court area to get information on another matter, and everyone I interacted with was professional and helpful. Maybe I caught them on a good day, but the whole experience gave me unexpected Legally Blonde energy. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing, people were pleasant, and things moved along without the chaos I usually associate with government buildings. Timing probably plays a huge role, but my visit was quick, easy, and far less stressful than I expected. For a trip to the courthouse, that's about as good as it gets.
