I spoke with Cheryl at Superior Flooring and Cabinets regarding a bathroom remodel. I needed a semi-custom sink vanity and separate make-up vanity. Cheryl was professional and answered my questions, and they had a cabinet product that could work, but there was a reluctance in her demeanor. She said she would forward my plan and design information to the person who does cabinet estimates, and said it can take 7-10 days just come up in the que for an estimate. We bought flooring twice from them in the last 12 months. First we bought vinyl flooring for the upstairs and installed it ourselves (with our handyman). We did ok and really liked the feel of it underfoot (we used padding that we bought off Amazon). We had 25 yo oak floors on the bottom floor. We had installed light grey tile flooring in the kitchen, bath, and pantry (Lowe's on clearance) and wanted to change the oak look to light gray to make a more seamless feel. We contemplated refinishing but chose to install a light gray vinyl over the top (won't the next people be excited). Our handyman wasn't available so we had them install (but moved furniture and did the baseboards ourselves). They worked around our schedule and did a fantastic job installing. We have now had Superior Floor install carpet on a 3rd project in our home. We have used them for two different bedrooms, and now our stairway, entry, and upstairs hallway. We have used David as our consultant on each of the projects and he has helped us pick the right color and the optimal carpet for each area. We have been 100% satisfied with his recommendations and guidance on each project so far. This most recent project featured some major geometric challenges, and I was really impressed with how David measured the carpet to minimize waste. (I know there are some companies out there that make extra money by over measuring an area - not so with Superior. I even measured the length of the roll that was delivered and it was exactly as was on our work order.) I was also impressed with the installation team. A team of three installers arrived on Saturday morning and they worked hard all day to complete the project by early evening. (I don't know that they stopped the entire day!) The team did not leave until the area was completely clean. The installation is perfect, you cannot even see the one seam that was required. Lastly, I cannot tell you how much we love the carpet. We selected a hand woven wool carpet and it is out of this world nice. It was pricey, but the carpet looks and feels like a million dollars. I recently contacted this business and spoke with David Romo, a sales representative, about a quote for flooring for a new home being built. The initial call with David was ok and before the call ended David said he would send me the quote for the flooring I was looking to get installed by close of business the next day. A week later, after not receiving any phone call or email on the status of said quote, I called Superior to find out the status of the quote. I was transferred to David and I asked him what the status of the quote was. David basically apologized and said he got busy, went out of town or something and that is why he never got around to sending the quote. Very unprofessional. When I received the "quote" today he didn't even take the time to come up with a real quote and basically just said they charge more for labor and the best he could do for me is sell me the material and find an installer on my own. What kind of sales rep handles business like this? He actually told me that he didn't send me a quote because since he knows that I am getting bids from other flooring seller/installers and that he would be coming in higher and that I couldn't afford it. I have never experienced any type of racism in my entire life but after today's conversation I don't know how I don't call it a racist experience by David at this business. How the heck does he know what I can and can't afford? He has no idea if his business's quote would be competitive or not. Unfortunately, while I was speaking with David during this horrendous customer service experience, the cell phone call got disconnect. When I called back, I explained the situation briefly to the receptionist, and asked for the owner's contact information. The receptionist proceeded to make excuses as to why the sales rep took so long to send anything at all. Many other business are also busy and they don't make excuses when their employees drop the ball. The receptionist would not give me the name of the business owner or manager, when it is obviously stated on their own website that the business is owned by Cheryl Robertson. We had carpet installed throughout our house. Cheryl and her co-workers were always friendly and kept us up to date on the timeline. The team of Abel and his fellow installers were excellent. I saw them putting the carpet together at the seams. Our carpet had intricate pattern that was not easy to align. When they put down the carpet I was hesitant to believe that anybody could make the seam disappear. Abel and his team were amazing. I paid the high price for Superior Flooring based on good reviews and my sense that customer service levels would be higher than the big stores. My floors were installed a couple of months ago (June 2014). The installers were OK--errors were made and fixed on the wood side; the carpet installer was REALLY rude, and the living/ dining rooms were installed in the wrong direction... but I let it go. I was told the finish would be "the same" as the existing wood floors I previously had installed (by the same wood maker, Indus Parquet). However, they were slick, as I found out a few days in when I slipped and fell in my bedroom, breaking my arm in two places. My husband checked the spot, and as he says, very nearly "bit it" himself. Very slick--we bought a carpet right away. I have contacted Superior Floors repeatedly to arrange, at my expense, to have the floors resurfaced with a non-slip Bona finish as they advised. I have emailed or called at least a dozen times. I CANNOT GET A RESPONSE. I left a message for the owner, John-- no response. Scott refuses to respond and Richard, who sold my materials, has left. The customer service is non-existent when a problem arises. I have been trying to get a response for 2+ MONTHS. Sadly, it's time to contact the BBB. Again, I was not angry, not threatening to sue anyone... just did some research, realized the fix, and asked them to help me solve a very serious issue. NO RESPONSE. I am heartbroken. I yearned for wood in my bedroom for the 16 years since I purchased this house, and now it's turned into a contentious, miserable nightmare. I cannot recommend this store. read more

We have used Superior Floors for carpet and wood floors in the past and needed to recarpet 4 bedrooms. Cheryl and Dave accommodated us so very well and we were able to pick out carpeting to match and blend with rest of the house. During this Covid pandemic, they were so above board with their service and safety. Dave, his son Dave and Miguel came on Saturday and went right to it. They did a superb job, friendly, careful, made repairs to some squeaky boards before laying the new carpet. They wore masks as did we and worked efficiently and did a beautiful job. We are so happy and just in time for company to come next week and enjoy the new carpet. I highly recommend this company as it is smaller and so much easier to deal with than these other larger carpet places. The price was right and the service was more personal and friendly. We wished we went with Cheryl at Superior Floor Designs. We made the mistake of going with another flooring company in Encinitas because of their lower bid price and positive reviews online. It's true what they say--you get what you pay for. Long story short, the demo and installation the other company did was a nightmare and the base shoe of our kitchen and living room floors were left unfinished without any paint or caulking. We called Cheryl months later, hoping she might help pick up where the other company left off. She didn't have to give us the time of day, but she jumped right in without hesitation and immediately put us in touch with her network of professionals. We moved to San Diego 5 weeks ago and just had the engineer wood floor put in our house. John, the owner came to give us a free in home estimate. He gave us a really good and genuine advice and his pricing is right too. The workmen showed up to work on time, worked really hard and get the floor done quickly and beautifully. Unfortunately, we found some water damaged and termite problem in one of our bedrooms. The work had to stop to rectify the problems. Few weeks later, Superior floor sent the workmen back to finish it as soon as we called. We are very happy with our new floor and would recommend them to anyone. read more

Superior Flooring in Encinitis is not what it use to be. Richard, who was there for many years was very helpful and knowledgeable. However since he left the owner, John has been awful. He doesn't return phone calls, after numerous messages, he doesn't follow through and is totally unrelieable. We have a problem with the carpet installed less than a year ago.
