We started with the calamari which was freshly prepared, hot and served with peppers and squash, very tasty. Unfortunately the chicken Parmesan was served barely warm. We didn't order the sandwiches until we finished the calamari so not sure why they were not hot. Definitely precooked and heated. Our server never checked in on our meal. Disappointing.

Last night was my first time at Suprema and I was so impressed! The smell of Italian cooking when you walk in is so intoxicating! It was a busy night and the staff was so welcoming and nice. The lasagna was made with fresh pasta and my friend had the chicken Milanese salad- both delicious. Will definitely be back!

Really nicely decorated restaurant with ample seating and solid customer service! The food was fresh and hot and you could tell it was quality ingredients. It is a little pricey for the amount of food but it's delicious and worth the money. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and the beef jus was just divine. The charred garlic bread was a great vehicle for the thinly shaved ribeye and gooey mozzarella. I would come here again for sure. It looked like on the other side of the restaurant they had a baby shower, so this could be an amazing place to book a party!

I celebrated my birthday dinner at Suprema, and it was a lovely experience. We started with Caesar salads and fried calamari to share, then I had the tagliatelle beef rib ragu. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The pasta especially stood out as fresh and well-made. The service was nice and attentive. It wasn't busy when we arrived but did get livelier later since it was a Thursday before the Fourth of July weekend. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Not too fancy, just a really nice spot. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Suprema is BYOB, which is a great plus. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's in a busy downtown area with lots of other restaurants nearby. Prices are a bit higher than your average Italian restaurant, but not over the top, which felt fair for the quality. For dessert, I split a piece of chocolate layer cake and I enjoyed pistachio gelato, both of which were delicious. I would definitely recommend Suprema for a date night or special occasion when you want good food in a relaxed, cozy setting.

Our favorite go to local place! The food never disappoints. The rice balls are made to order! Crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside! My husband had the chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce. The bread was fresh and crunchy and the chicken was plentiful. He couldn't finish the whole thing! My daughter had the pasta with ragu and even though oh the pricey side and not too warm she liked it and had some leftovers for later. ($34).

6 years?! My goodness I didn't realize I haven't been here in that long! Time for an update! I still frequent Michael's Salumeria, the deli that started this whole venture into restaurants for the family of theirs, but I'm happy to see Anthony expanded this place and removed the deli counter. It's feels more refined now and more of the restaurant I assume he dreamed it to be! Service and food is still as excellent as always! He expanded into area next door, removed the deli counter and went full blown restaurant. Love it Ant! Had the newer version of fried calamari and the fried lemon slices and zucchini strips to the calamari added a whole new level. Came with marinara, tartar sauce and fresh lemon wedges with fried long hots on top! Had this incredible artichoke salad with chopped pistachios balsamic and honey. Wow! Enjoyed chicken with mushrooms and the smoothest mashed with a drizzle of EVOO on top, spaghetti and shrimp Arrabiata, spaghetti pomodoro with shrimp & burrata added and tagliatelle with ragu. My father only wished his Arrabiata had jumbo shrimp as mine did and not the small shrimp. I have to agree with him because once you have had their jumbo shrimp you always want it! Pasta was Al dente, sauce tastes like u are dining right in a tomato field in Italy and the shrimp were freshly caught that morning! Not a fan of mashed, but I couldn't help stealing a few bites off my mother's plate! Impressive to get me to eat! Tagliatelle was so light and not your normal heavy texture. The pomodoro was more sauce based this time versus cherry tomato based as in past. You can see the difference in the pictures . The burrata was creamy and I highly recommend you add it to any pasta dish! For dessert we had a massive slice of chocolate layered cake and a decaf Capp. Nailed it again Ant! Always a good bite on Park Ave! Definitely will frequent more often!

We came to suprema for Valentine's Day dinner and really enjoyed it! The ambience was relaxing, candle lit dinner vibes. The food was delicious, fresh, and a great serving to enjoy some more at home the next day. We tried the rice balls and the fried mozzarella both were delicious and crispy on the outside. For the entree I had the chicken Parmesan but with vodka sauce as they asked which sauce I prefer and I decided to try something different and I really enjoyed it. The chicken was cooked well the spaghetti was al dente, I usually don't care for spaghetti but suprema cooked it well! We ended the night with tiramisu, that I felt was lacking something, possibly too much cream for my preference? I couldn't quite pinpoint it but it was ok. For nonalcoholic drinks they had a couple canned teas that contain added sugars, a couple Italian soda flavors, bottled still water, and sparkling water. Service was great and attentive. Suprema is BYOB so be sure to grab your preferred drink before you head here for dinner. Parking is street only (you need to pay if it's not Sunday or after 7pm I believe) as well. There's a pay for parking lot a few blocks away if you prefer that quick accessibility instead of looking for street parking.

LOVE Suprema! Located on the main street ( Park Ave) in Rutherford it has street and municipal parking. It offers a similar Lunch & Dinner menu. Large open room (nice); OK on ambience. It seemed a little slow for a Thursday night; staff was super friendly & accommodating. Prices are very fair for the current market & great ingredients. BYOB. We were a Foodie group that night, meaning try as many options and share.. IMO.. a (perfectly) small menu ( 10 Apps, 6 pastas, 10 entrees) + a small Specials menu. I love menus like this. Gives the kitchen the time to perfect each item. We "liked" to "loved" everything.... THE FOOD (apps) --RICE BALLS made with creamy risotto - mozzarella - basil pomodoro; 3 to an order with delish red sauce, they only charged $4 more for an extra ball so we all had one each. --FRIED CALAMARI crispy domestic calamari - rice flour crust - arrabiata & house-made tartar sauces on the side. These were house made and very good. Portion was good; FYI--the price of fresh, whole calamari has skyrocketed lately; Don't be put off here by a $24 price as I am seeing more and more restaurants lately switch over to the "bag of pre-breaded, frozen calamari" which is nasty. Here you pay for what you get...excellently done. THE FOOD ( entrees) --TAGLIATELLE BEEF RIB RAGU (pasta entree) made with slow simmered beef - Italian soffrito - milk - tomato passata - pecorino cheese; Yes, we ordered this entree to arrive with the other appetizers and shared. Pasta cooked perfectly; ingredient all fresh and worked together; very comforting. --CHICKEN PARMIGIANA--served with a side of pasta; two perfectly cooked breasts, great sauce & cheese....Just a great example of the classic dish. Kudos! -- CHICKEN PORCINI --Bell & Evans boneless breast - roasted cremini & porcini mushrooms in a gold potato puree - sweet wine & porcini glaze.....Large portion. Another excellent dish. Flavorful & comforting. --LASAGNA BOLOGNESE -fresh lasagna pasta - simmered beef ragu - house made mozzarella -creamy bechamel - San Marzano tomatoes - grated pecorino cheese; YUM! I ordered this because it has bechamel, I've never seen it in a lasagna, and I love anything with it. It's added flavor was subtle yet really improved an already great dish. --SQUASH RISOTTO --creamy arborio rice - roasted kabocha & honeynut squash -house made reggiano butter - toasted hazelnuts - vincotto; Now this was a good dish; Vincotto is like a balsamic glaze which added a little sweetness to this dish. It's a great choice for the Vegan diner. Really good to have it on the menu for that reason. We fished off with some good Americana coffee ( espresso & regular coffee beans); espresso, and a few desserts. A word to my fellow Foodie friends....Rutherford NJ is a food-centric town; Always new places popping up to try which can let some people forget the ones that have been around awhile. I heard Suprema has been open for approx 7 years and I think it should have a bigger crowd on a Thursday night. Food is great; prices are fair ( good value); and service was great. A lot of us like trying new places all the time but please don't forget the places we come across and enjoy....IMO Suprema is one of those. ( check out the picture of the sandwich in my review..OMG.. I have to go back ..LOL)

Suprema is a true gem and easily one of the best Italian spots in the area. While everything is delicious and made with care (hello, fresh pasta!), the absolute must-order is the Roast Beef Sandwich. It's a work of art! The combination of tender, savory roast beef, that melted (or perfectly fried) mozzarella, and the sweet, rich caramelized onions makes for a seriously addictive, indulgent meal. The bread holds up beautifully, too. Service is friendly, and while it can get a little busy, it's totally worth the wait. Go treat yourself!

Hands down this place is it! I was truly impressed and extremely satisfied. Went here looking a good Italian deli and found it. I had their Milano Sandwich, AMAZING! Walked in was seated and had my food in no time. Service is FAST. It does get busy around lunch time. I am definitely going back and do recommend others to try it. read more

Excellent food, and very good quality ingredients. The reason I give 3/5 is because of the staff. I didn't find them particularly friendly and I am not expecting them to pop a champagne to welcome me, but no one cared to offer a seat. As we were waiting to be seated (as advised by the sign) the head server went past us a few times very unperturbed by our presence. In general not a very friendly vibe as I always get at Materas or Pancake house. But very good food, I have to say again. read more

Suprema is Rutherford's best kept secret, not only is the decor and staff delightful, but the food is absolutely incredible. Melissa was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and made our experience at supreme even better. I recommend the mussels for starters (probably the best I've had in NJ). I recommend The Crab + Spaghetti, however my partner had the Veal Chop and it was one of the best veal chops he has had. To end the night we almost always turn down desert but we heard the magic words "Tiramisu" and we had to try and we were not disappointed. Nestled next to luxurado cherries this desert was the perfect way to end our night. Bravo to Suprema, to your staff, your food and your ambience. We definitely recommended and we will be back! read more

First time in Rutherford, First time in Suprema, definitely not the last time I'll be back. Covering all aspects of food, money, esthetic, quality, and service I have to give this place a A+. If you're in town or not I highly recommend you take a drive to visit. The food is amazing and it's in such a great quaint town. It was my first time having a rice ball which was highly recommended to me by the waitress, needless to say I took three to go so my family could taste how great they were. I also had the Milano sandwich I believe but if I'm wrong it is the sandwich that includes breaded chicken, mozzarella, arugula, tomato, and balsamic vinaigrette. Oh! And I forgot to add that I also had a cappuccino that was strong but so YUMMY! Definitely try this place out. You will not be disappointed read more

Beautiful space, very fresh and delicious food, lovely service. I'm dairy and gluten free and didn't think I would find much here - boy, I was wrong. The vegetables are amazing, done very Italian, with lots of good balsamic and extra virgin olive oil. Olives were amazing. Grilled chicken was perfect, salads are high quality. They have a regular menu and then a fresh prepared food selection that changes daily. They're happy to accommodate you, and happily answer all questions/concerns. I got takeout and they did a fantastic job packing everything up so it stayed fresh and looking good for my company. read more

Wowowow! Awesome sandwiches- ordered a Milano and Liguria today with cappuccino and All of them totally blew me away. I started with the cappuccino which I didn't have high standards for (and I'm a coffee snob) but it's really decent quality! Well balanced flavor, aroma and strength. Next, the chicken cutlets are so professionally trimmed and prepared. The sandwiches are flavorful and well balanced. What a great find! Will be back for more! read more

This is GOOD STUFF. I've gotten lunch here a few times and everything is on point. The bread they use for sandwiches is insanely good. Think of the perfect sandwich bread. I've gotten the salad with artichoke hearts as well and the dressing they put on it is light and tasty. Good sized portions. I love this place! read more

Why advertise you close at 9PM if your kitchen closes at 7:30PM.....I just walked in there while there was a party taking up the restaurant ask if I can grab something to go at 8:15PM and they tell me the kitchen closed at 7:30. It's makes no sense why you advertise on Yelp and Google that you're open until 9PM then. Very unhappy especially from a place like this. read more

My husband and I went to Suprema Cafe for dinner on Saturday night. We didn't make a reservation, just decided to walk up Park Avenue in Rutherford to see what we found. We've been to Suprema many times for dinner and decided this was where we wanted to eat. The waitress, Nina, was able to squeeze us in and set up a table outside for us on their small patio. Nina was extremely accommodating like always, she's been our waitress many times and is always super helpful when we have any questions and is always very warm and personable. She shared her favorite meals with us since she has been there for so long and is a pleasure always. I ordered the Special Seafood Pasta and my husband ordered the Eggplant Parm, both absolutely delicious, credit to the chef, we ate the entire things! Everything was absolutely great. The bus boy was also very helpful and willing to grab anything we needed when we asked like extra bread, we LOVE the bread, ice, salt pepper, and red pepper flakes. Suprema is a wonderful atmosphere, the outside patio is great especially on a September night and we love coming here. We keep coming back because the food is amazing and the people that have been taking care of us since we started coming just make it feel like a home environment for a late night dinner. We also love the other location Michael's in Lyndhurst for a small pick me up, but the sit down at Suprema is always nice. Can't wait for Dining Under the Stars starting again next week! read more

A nice new spot that just opened in downtown Rutherford, when you walk in you feel like you're in a deli out in California due to all the open space available, they accept cash or credit, it is kid friendly and family oriented great for lunch/brunch and take out. I would recommend getting the salads or the Milano sandwich which is there most popular. The owner also has another place in Lodi where Danny Aiello hangs out and you see his photos of the actor behind the counter. They also make fresh mozz which is delish. read more

Stopped in on Friday evening with my coworkers. We were greeted by Jack who could not have been more hospitable! We started with the rice ball appetizers. AMAZING. I ordered the penne ala vodka, which is probably one of the best penne ala vodkas that I've ever had. One of my co workers ordered the Halibut, and that was insanely good. My other coworker ordered a chicken dish with artichokes. Also phenomenal! I cannot wait to go back! I highly highly recommend, and if you are as lucky as us to have Jack as your server, consider it an excellent evening! read more

I have been here twice for their sandwiches, and will be back regularly. I had a craving for a parma sandwich and they didn't disappoint. Today I'm having their Calabria. ONLY complaint I have is they should have Vietnamese Bahn Mi on their menu. I know it isn't Italian but their bread is perfect for Bahn Mi. read more

What a wonderful place... we're in the neighborhood to do some shopping at Costco and found this deli/cafe for lunch. Food here is fresh and tasty - we ordered two sandwiches and a salad and everything was super delicious! Milano, Napoli sandwiches just perfectly made, the bread is amazing. The pistachio salad with artichoke was equally good. I only wish we live close by... I am sure we will be back. There are many item on the menu we would love to try. I was sad to learn that they don't open for dinner. Highly recommended and as will be back! read more

I came here for the first time today at lunch and being I live nearby did dinner also , food was exceptional I had a linguini and Long Island clams my wife had salmon both were exquisite, the staff was friendly and right on top of things the chef even came out to introduce himself , you can even see his kitchen form certain areas which by the way was spotless, there's something to be said about being able to view where your food is prepared it tells me they have nothing to hide , to close it was a pleasure read more

Had dinner here for the first time last night. We had rice balls and clams oreganata for appetizer which were delicious. Fettuccini Alfredo was on point. I've been to a lot of restaurants that miss the mark on the right amount of flavor for this dish. They also have awesome sandwiches for lunch, a go to for lunch and dinner. But definitely an amazing dinner I will be back before I start my diet! read more

Just came from there. It was not extremely busy and yet the waitress did not get my order correct. She brings me my dish and I explain I ordered it without the sausage. Meanwhile my daughter and son-in law from San Francisco were eating and finished and my meal was still not brought out. I had to go into the restaurant and ask for my food and still I waited. Finally another waiter comes out and said we removed it from the bill STILL WIThOUT THE DISH!!! So because of the mistake of the waitress, what was supposed to be a nice lunch with my visiting family turned out to be me watching them eat. I left no tip with a note thanking the waitress for ruining my lunch. The young punk at the register who read the note calls out "have a nice day". Jerk!! I am sure my son-in-law went back int to leave an undeserved tip but I am happy I did not leave a cent. There are so many good places to go and we chose this place. What a mistake. Don't know how they do when it is really busy. My advice-make sure you ask the waitress to repeat your order or you could be watching others eat and leave dissatisfied, hungry and enraged!!! read more

I've only ever been here for lunch but the sandwiches and salads are so tasty. I highly recommend the Milano, Puglia, Napoli, and any of the salads. Their chicken cutlet is always crispy and flavorful. The menu is well thought out. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to trying their dinner menu. read more

I would just like to underscore what other reviewer's have said about this little gem of a restaurant. My wife and I have eaten there twice now and both times have been more than satisfied. I went to Suprema on a Saturday afternoon. The space is beautiful - elegant and clean. There is room for seating but we decided to do take out which was fast and delicious. Our cashier, Andrew, was kind and knowledgable of the menu. He recommended the rice balls - and I'm so glad he did. We had to wait for them to finish cooking but they were so so delicious. We also had fried ravioli and 2 sandwiches. Overall the food was great. In my opinion, bread is the most important part of a sandwich and they have that down pat. Great place. Great staff. Great spot for lunch! Everything I've had from here has been spot on. Fresh quality ingredients, good service, and delicious espressos. Rice balls are excellent, Sandwich specials are really good and salads have a lot of flavor. Only negative would be the portion sizes are not huge but satisfying enough for lunch. Came here for lunch the other day and was really impressed to find such a delicious hip spot in NJ ! I spend most of my days in NYC so finding a good quality food spot is more of a challenge in NJ than NYC. I loved the food - had the artichoke salad with grilled chicken. The service, however, was subpar. Our waitress was inattentive and we had to ask for utensils, napkins , etc... definitely not the service we expected from a new upcoming spot. read more

Suprema is a very cute cafe with good food and excellent service. The environment is super clean and relaxing. Staff are friendly. I had a latte and sandwich, both were very good. I really liked the sandwich. I got the Milano sandwich, and it's definitely one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. The ingredients were all very fresh. The chicken was well cooked, juicy and tender. There were no excessive dressings and I was able to taste the flavors of each ingredient on an oven toasted bread. I am always up for fresh pasta! ...and yesterday was no exception. My wife had gone here with her friends recently and wanted us to check it out together. I am glad she did! I had a special, which consisted of linguini in a pesto sauce with shrimp. It was delicious and filling! Perfect size portions.
