I visited Union Bar last year for a Yelp event and have been talking about Union Bar ever since. I'm glad that I came tonight to check it out and bring my favorite person along. Our server, Natalie, was bubbly, polite and attentive. I ordered the garlic and lemon shrimp dish which was out of this world. Everything about the dish was a hit: the shrimp were cooked perfectly, the sauce was bursting with flavor, and the portion was sizable. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My mate ordered the burger which was served with seasoned fries. He kept raving about the burger and everything was gone before I had a chance to try anything, so I know it must've been good! All in all, the meal was delicious and I look forward to returning. Also, there is a parking lot next to the restaurant which fills up quickly. read more

Terrible experience. We came to Union Bar & Provisions for dinner with our baby and walked out to find our car being towed. We even called the tow truck driver while he was in the process of towing it, but still had to pay a significant amount of money just to have the vehicle dropped. What should have been a nice family dinner turned into a stressful and expensive ordeal. Extremely disappointing experience, and we will not be returning. read more

The food here was not bad. I would have ranked this is a 4/5 if we were just reviewing the food. Unfortunately, the main issue was the service or lack there of. Our waitress took a while to greet us and then we never saw her again after ordering drinks and food until we received our check. She never checked in on us one time. Sat for nearly 30 minutes without a drink. We were hoping to order new cocktails that were finished before our food even arrived; but since no one came over we went the entire meal without a drink or checkin from the waitress. Came during brunch but was really hankering for their French dip sandwich. A tad bit of a bummer, but on the bright side I got to try out their brunch menu! We tried the Ham & Brie Croissant with Tavern Fries. The Croissant was big enough for two of us to share and SOO good. I had the Golden Peach Martini while my girlfriend ordered the Brown Butter Old Fashioned. I'm not typically one to order an Old Fashioned so I always try hers out -- this has to be a top 5 for me!! This was my second time coming to Union. I had initially come in the fall for a Yelp Elite event but I've been wanting to come back ever since. For a "bar," their food and drink list is elevated and better than most! Shout out to our server Mariah! She said the bar had poured too much prosecco for another table, so we got to enjoy some complimentary prosecco -- can't let that go to waste! ;) Parking in East Rutherford can be tough at times, but I do love that Union has their own lot with plenty of parking. The food here used to be outstanding, so I'm not sure if there's been a change in the kitchen or a new chef, but unfortunately, my last meal was extremely disappointing. I ordered the Kale Caesar Salad, but it came out with romaine instead of kale, with no mention of the substitution until it arrived at the table. They also no longer offer breaded chicken, only grilled, and the grilled chicken tasted more like thinly sliced frozen salad chicken than something freshly prepared. The French fries also didn't taste fresh. The steak, especially for $44, was less than impressive, and the focaccia pizza was definitely not what I would consider focaccia. Overall, the food has changed significantly from what it used to be. This was once a place I thought was incredible and really enjoyed coming to, which makes the decline even more disappointing. Sadly, after this experience, I don't think we'll be returning. read more

This is a great addition to the Rutherford dining lineup. It's an excellent spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. The ambiance is fantastic, blending a modern and classic touch. The drinks are phenomenal, and the location is in a quieter area with very little traffic. Definitely some improvements to be made, but they're still working out the kinks. The design is great and the union looks perfect for east Rutherford by the train station. UB&P is fairly new; easy to get to with plenty of parking; Staff is very friendly, our waiter Amanda was great. Ownership really did a great job creating a very cool, city-style, modern atmosphere. Before writing this review, I had to really think about what UB&P really is and (duh!) the name says it all. This is more of a bar first and food ( provisions) secondary. As long as you visit with this in mind you should have a good experience. Well lit, well stocked bar with as pair of large TVS for watching a game. Not a craft beer bar but ok on the wine selection and it has an interesting craft cocktail list. However the drinks sounded better than they were made. My dining companion and I have had our fair share of Old Fashions and Lychee-style martinis. The versions here GOLDEN PEACH MARTINI & BROWN BUTTER WASHED OLD FASHIONED fell flat. At $16-18 per, they need to get better. As for food, a very small menu ( which I do like at times) but this one doesn't have anything that says "I have to try that!" Again I'm feeling that what with all the great restaurants in the next town it makes sense to push the alcohol here more than the food. We split he hummus platter which was very good; For our main course: the house burger ( with fries) and meatloaf ( with sauteed spinach and pureed potatoes). The burger was very good and cooked as ordered. The meatloaf was good\ok, but I have the opinion that most of us already have a version of our favorite meatloaf from somewhere else ( mom's, spouse's, our own). A side of cornbread was ordered too. I find most places make it too dry but this version was very good. Do NOT expect to have dessert here as it is almost non-existent. No menu and only a few generic choices like cheesecake, chocolate cake, creme brulee ( they had 1 left on a Wednesday night! really? ) Anyway, good place for catching the game with some drinks. Food here if needed to keep the night going. They just need to do a little work on those cocktails. read more

Came here for date night after coming for an event the week prior. Everything was absolutely delicious! Although I was disappointed some of their small bites were not on their menu that they supplied at the event (like their chicken empanadas, delicious!), we ended up ordering a bunch of other small bites. Their spinach and artichoke dip was my favorite. We ordered tacos for our entree, and unfortunately, had them sent back. The steak was way too undercooked for me and my boyfriends liking, and way too chewy! Luckily, our waitress was the sweetest and sent it back to have it cooked. Unfortunately when she brought it back, it was still too undercooked. Other than that, the vibes of the place are AMAZING. It is close to the American Dream mall, perfect to grab a bite before going anywhere around that area! The one thing I always love about my experience here is how friendly the staff is. The bartenders, bussers, and waitresses all do their part and love to make the customers feel at home. The owner is super friendly, always making sure everyone is having a great time! The drinks were delicious. I got the golden peach martini. For food I ordered the burger medium rare. It did not have any flavor and was a very dense consistency and not juicy. I feel like for an upscale place it would also help to add some fancy topping choices or various cheese choices to add some flair. We also got the fried brussel sprouts which were amazing! I went during opening day and will say there were similar growing pains on the first day. I do not care about service when the kitchen, wait stsff and other workers are learning the ins and outs of keeping a bar alive. I expected it and gave the waitress time and patience who checked on me and apologized for the delays. I only cared about the food and when it did arrived, I had no complaints. Tasty, fresh, and served with good portions. I had focaccia, whole chicken with mashed potatoes and chimichurri. French dip with fries, nachos with chili carne and if I didn't have to wait from 6 to 8:30, I'd likely had ordered dessert. The ambience and interior is modern, bright, and stunning. Whether on romantic nights, after a work shift or simply for a night out, the bars ambience invites everyone. Down the road with the changing seasons, the large windows and outside seating may lead to great photos to be taken as well for special occasions Will be back, and hope in a month, they're better equipped, ready to serve and keep trying new combinations with the menu. The Union Bar is a beautiful, modern, and very clean spot in East Rutherford. The atmosphere feels upscale, and I appreciated the little touches--like someone opening the door for you. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, which made the service welcoming from the start. On the food side, the French Dip sandwich was absolutely outstanding--probably the highlight of the meal. The burger was a good size and juicy, while the nachos were flavorful (though very spicy, so be prepared if you're not into heat). Unfortunately, the Cobb salad was a letdown--plain, boring, and unappealing in presentation. A missed opportunity for such a classic dish. There were a few disappointments with the bar and service timing: no stuffed olives available for my martini (a small but frustrating detail, since so many martini lovers enjoy them), and the drinks took quite a while to arrive. The food also came out sporadically, rather than together, which disrupted the flow of the meal. Atmosphere-wise, while the interior is lovely, it's very cold inside--definitely bring a sweater. It's also extremely noisy, and the sound of the train going by only adds to the loudness, making it difficult to have a conversation. Overall, The Union Bar has a lot of potential: great presentation, friendly staff, and some standout dishes. But with slower service, inconsistent food timing, and a few misses on the menu, it's not quite there yet. Hopefully, with some adjustments, it could become a go-to spot. read more

My wife and I brought her friend and boss in for dinner the other night after having a great first experience a few nights earlier. Right off the jump, they liked the look and atmosphere. The server was fun, professional, and efficient. We had an incredibly mild concern about a menu item. There was nothing wrong with the food per se; it was maybe just a personal taste thing. The manager, Mike (I believe, sorry if I am wrong), was Johnny-on-the-Spot and managed this tiny issue as a very important. It told us he wanted us to be happy; Hospitality 101. The 5 star reviews must be people the owner knows or the people that work there . If you know good food and quality. You will take a bite out of your food and spit it out. Calamari 1/10 steak was the cheapest cut low quality meat. The drinks. Horrible. I couldn't even finish my drink it was that bad. What a beautiful bar this is ! Went here with my husband for a drink and an appetizer . The staff is friendly and professional . My husband has a regular beer which was not overpriced at all and I had a fireside cider cocktail , it was excellent ! They've really done a great job with the renovation of this restaurant. It's absolutely beautiful inside, great vibes. It feels like you can make it a casual night or more dressed up if you'd like. We sat inside, but the outside seating looked nice as well. The food was great - We got the calamari to start which were fried to perfection. I got the steak tacos - I'd give them a 3 out of 5, I felt like they were missing a sauce or something, but they were good, just not something I'd want over and over. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich which he said was delicious. Wine and cocktails were also great! We're happy to have such a good restaurant so close by! read more
