I love the Surf Camp cafe in Niu Valley on Oahu, so I had to visit the Big Island location in Waimea! This coffee shop is located in a small plaza with a pizza place, taco spot, and Merriman's. The plaza itself has plenty of parking even when it's on the busier side on a weekend morning, so it's not hard to find a spot. Inside the cafe, there's a retail section that sells clothing and small goods, and a separate side to place your order and sit and enjoy your drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is bright and welcoming with a minimalist vibe, and even when we visited on a weekend morning, it was easy to find seating either indoors or outdoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was wonderful -- we were helped promptly by staff, and my drink came out quickly. I got the black sesame latte with a chocolate chip cookie. I thought my drink was perfect, as the flavor of the black sesame was nutty, pleasant, and just the right amount of sweetness paired with the espresso. The cookie was on the softer/puffier side, and although it's not my preferred texture, it wasn't too bad! To sum up, I really enjoyed dropping by to get coffee here, and I feel like the quality of the drinks at Surf Camp is consistent across their different locations. This spot was perfect!! Came here expecting to just grab and coffee and go but we stayed to enjoy the beautiful store. Absolutely loved this place! We spotted it while heading to a brewery in Waimea and decided to try it on our way back! It did not disappoint. Both a store and a coffee shop. We left with some tees, hats and scents and enjoyed their coffee! I love black sesame and tried their iced latte with macadamia mil which was delicious ! Every time I come to the big island, I come to this café and last time I was here it had a different name, but it's attached to the Surf stop in the front. I believe I was speaking with the owner this afternoon since I'm indecisive on drinks and I love their teas as well as their coffee and the owner politely told me cold brew was a blend from one of the local islands as well as their drip coffee. It was a blend of combo locally grown, and organic as well! Very helpful and inquisitive, I didn't help because I wanted both so I ended up getting two drinks myself! Lol Cold brew; a coffee snob when it comes to things I roast . The iced coffee they have at this particular café are two ones of light roast perfectly have a crisp light note and almost citrus aftertaste that I love and totally quenches my thirst with the beautiful Hawaiian Summer heat! The Lox Bagel was pretty good! It's a staple for me at coffee shops and this one hit the spot. The latte on the other hand was not great, the coffee acidity is tarte and doesn't pair well with the vanilla. I like a thicker and nuttier espresso, which this definitely wasn't. Overall, this place was a great place to stop by prior to our road trip around the island. A cute, well decorated cafe with very refreshing vibes and interior design. Drinks were pretty good! Arvo in Waimea is a nice and quaint cafe that is pleasing to the eyes, ears, and mouth. As soon as you walk in, the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu is simple but has everything you may crave. I tried the Nutella Toast and Smoked Salmon Toast. They were both masterfully made and well-presented. They looked like works of art and tasted great. I also tried an iced vanilla latte and that was nice and creamy, not too sweet, and delicious. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. It seems like a great place to study or do work. There's plenty of seating indoors and great outdoor seating as well. All in all a great cafe with nothing to complain about. read more

I came here with my family and we were just stopping for coffee, minding our business. As we were leaving, the owner pulled us aside and lectured us for 45min about how much he hates people like us coming to his island. we listened patiently and calmly, yet he proceeded to use attacking words, calling us entitled and disrespectful. He specifically targeted our religious beliefs as well, making assumptions about us as people based on a label. It was a very disappointing conversation and the spirit of Aloha was not felt! I love the peaceful vibe of the cafe included the outdoor tables in back surrounded by tropical plants. The lavender iced coffee had subtle notes of lavender with the taste of smooth deliciousness of coffee. The matcha latte was flavorful and iced strawberry mint tea was a favorite. The cucumber toast was beautifully made with thin pieces of cucumber on top of ricotta cheese. I took 1 bite enjoyed the view and looked my daughter & husband scarfed it down. Crowded lot and small space but the coffee was particularly good and the food ready fast and filling. The shop on site has lots of cool stuff to browse while you wait. My go to for coffee in Waimea, hands down the very best! Their lavender latte, matcha latte, flat white are all excellent! I'm extremely picky when it comes to coffee and Arvo always delivers on this! They could work on their friendliness and service at this particular location, wasn't greeted and they selectively pick who they deliver the coffee they have made to, but it is the most airy, bright, beautiful spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, a loaded avo toast with friends, alone, or to get some work done. It's quaint, but still felt spacious and there are indoor and outdoor spaces in the back. They are attached to surf camp, a surf store with trendy surf/ski essentials. When I arrived it was empty and 5 minutes later, every table was taken, so it just depends on the time you come. Don't miss out on this spot! There's also another location on Oahu that I frequent, and for the most part they kept a lot of the quality, taste the same. I did notice the avo toast to be quite different, namely the bread that they make it on and was initially disappointed bc it wasn't the fluffy bread they usually use, but it was just as good and this version has a much skinnier bread, so less carbs, just as good!!! Ordered matcha, chai and lemonade. Matcha was great! Strawberry Lemonade tasted plain and watered down. Don't recommend. Chai latte tasted too spicy for my taste. Went to see if I could get something else instead. They gave me bad look when I asked if I could exchange it. They exchanged it. I apologized and thanked them. I was getting in to car when owner I'm assuming chased me down and told me this is Hawaii not Starbucks, exchanging was a one time occurrence and that it's a small business.
