We brought our family here for a brunch treat. We are always so welcomed here. The general manager and his family are so nice. The gentleman waiter who has worked at The Coffee House for many years was so welcoming to us. He walked our first time diners through the menu expressing his favorites and top picks. He put huge smiles on their faces with his descriptions of sauces, etc. Everyone loved what they ordered. I, of course, cannot get enough of the side grilled fish. We were looking for a good brunch place, which is unfortunately hard to find in Newport. Ended up settling on the Coffee House and we had a great brunch with friends. We lucked out and arrived right as the largest table in the tiny place was finishing up so we got a table that comfortably fit the six of us. The waiter was super nice and helpful, especially since we started out saying we needed three checks. I ended up getting something I used to get years ago and was thrilled to see that they still had: pan-fried Yaquina Bay oysters and eggs, along with the homemade biscuit. Love that they have homemade bread and bread their own oysters and fish. I was worried that this place wouldn't be as good as it was when I used to go there 12 years ago with the new owners but it was as good as ever. Cutest restaurant that used to be a house. It's located across the side street from Ripley's. Seating on the porch- plastic enclosed for seating on dreary Oregon days. Inside was bright and cheery.You know it's good when the locals come in for coffee and pastries. Server sat us quickly and brought us menus and took our drinks orders. Coffee was hot and strong! Perfect on a cold morning. I had the veggie omelet with sourdough toast. So full of veggies. He had the biggest pancake I've seen! So light and fluffy! Was sent out here on an Assignment. Was only coming for a cup of coffee, but was hungry. I decided instead of waiting for lunch. Brunch it is. Coffee and French Toast Just a decent, plain French toast. Little dry, not enough egg. But I don't blame them with the egg shortage and hike. Small town places struggle even more with cost hikes. I'll always try and find a local food, coffee or shop to support when I'm at different assignments. Tables were clean, quite and cozy I'm excited to come back and eat here again sometime this summer! We stopped by for breakfast and were delightfully impressed by this little family owned cafe. We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming young woman who is the daughter of the owner. She really made our breakfast lovely. She answered our questions, asked about us and told us about herself and the cafe. We sat on the sunny enclosed front porch and enjoyed a beautiful view of the bay. Our food was excellent. I had the crepes with fresh fruit. The fruit was freshly cut and sweet. The crepes were delicious. My husband enjoyed his omelette and our friends loved their granola, yogurt and fruit parfait. One person ordered oatmeal and found it could have been cooked longer but acknowledged that oatmeal texture is a personal choice. Everyone in our party, however, found the coffee too strong and bitter. It took lots of cream and sugar to make it to our tastes. Despite too-strong coffee we will be back! The summary of the cafe says waterfront cafe with harbor views and a dog friendly patio known for fresh coffee ... and I pretty much came here to say all that! I plugged my EV in to charge up the hill at the city hall and walked down to the bayside with my pup to kill time while my car charged up. It was one of those cool but stunning coastal morning, bright blue sky and chilly temps. The patio was perfectly set up to be outside (I still do not prefer to eat inside, so i appreciate a warm patio) yet covered, heated, and protected from the elements. And of course hanging w my dog! I live in Newport and go to the Coffee House frequently. The food is amazing and the service is usually fantastic. Jael, Patchies, Joel, and Carmen are all great. I have been there a few times lately where the service has been not so great. Each time I have had a bad experience it has been when Eric has been my server. He takes forever to get to the table, seems like he is on something whether it be pills, alcohol, or other harder drugs. Once he takes my order I never see him again. Someone else brings me my food and I usually have to go to the counter to pay my bill. He never comes to check on me to see if I need anything like water or more coffee. I am very disappointed and will rethink my breakfast choices next time I go out. read more

On our latest Newport trip we visited The Coffee House on a Friday morning on our boardwalk stroll. We didn't sit down or get food but I can tell this is a popular place for breakfast since it's got great view and lots of options for seating inside, covered patio-style tables, and also an outdoor seating area on the side. The menu posted on the outside looked really good with reasonable prices for a touristy location. Since we just wanted coffee and a small treat to go, I walked in and they had an order counter for to-go orders. I ordered a medium latte and an iced coffee, and when I saw the GIANT cookie I couldn't resist (it was $3) The service was friendly and they told me to wait outside and they will bring it out. It was nice and sunny out so I didn't mind waiting. The ONLY thing I will mention is that the cookie I got was a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, it had these fork marks that is iconic if peanut butter cookies BUT the sever didn't mention anything about that when I got it and it was unlabeled wrapped in clear plastic wrap. Luckily I am not allergic to peanut butter but I would think it would be good to have a label or inform people who might not know what they are getting. read more

Can't say enough good things about this gem! Have been there twice in the past month or so, and beyond impressed! Joel is a kind soul who makes your day with his cheerful demeanor and on-point recommendations. We sat inside by the wood stove and had the breakfast sandwich last time--delicious (definitely could have split one). Today, we brought our pup (great dog-friendly enclosed patio!) and tried the mushroom omelette and it was stuffed full of gorgeous shrooms! My son ordered the French toast which he really enjoyed. My daughter ordered the kids pancake breakfast which turned out to be one big pancake that was perfectly cooked to her liking. My order was the crab cakes Florentine which was very similar to a Benedict but with crab! Oh my gosh, it was amazing. I've had lots of crab cake Benedict's with my travels around the Pacific Northwest but I really loved this. The Dungeness crab was so tasty. Just an FYI I'm picky about my crab being from Alaska. I should start and be very clear... the ONLY reason I'm giving this a 4-star review is because I want the staff to be successful and I assume this is a family owned and operated business. I want to see them succeed, I believe in family owned businesses. However, this one needs some improvement. Service? Fabulous. Lovely staff, friendly, accommodating, professional... they checked all the boxes. Restaurant? Adorable. Kitschy in its own regard. Not offensive in any way... just kinda patched together. Price? A tad high. Almost $40 for breakfast seemed to be a bit much in my opinion, especially considering the product. Food? That's where we fell on our face. I had a standard breakfast... eggs, ham, english muffin, potatoes, and gravy. Seems simple enough. Eggs, were cooked to order but tasteless. I am not sure how you make a tasteless egg, but that was the case. Ham, fine, nothing impressive. English muffin was dry and stale. Potatoes, quite disappointing. They were actually burned and cold... not the good "crunchy" kind of burned... but actually tasted burned. They were also flavorless (except burnt taste)... no salt, no pepper, no flavor at all. Gravy, 100000% from a can. It was starchy, lumpy, and tasted like someone dumped it from a can and microwaved it for too long. We walked out and both immediately said "that was disappointing". Hopefully the cook can work on an A-Game performance and turn things around. We both ate just enough to feel full and left the rest behind. It wasn't even box ready. The review should be 2-stars but I will forever believe in local owned businesses and hope they can turn this around. read more

Every time I come through Newport I stop here for lunch and wander the shops. The food is consistently good. I had the lunch appetizer crab cakes (no sides) and a house salad. Perfect amount of food for me. I've always gotten there in time to get a table on the enclosed porch - which I love. I've never eaten inside! It's a little cooler so bring a jacket or sit inside. I believe she said they have a heater but I'm from the coast and like the cool. If you're there in season go early or late for lunch as they fill up. My waitress today was Carmen and she was awesome. One word to describe my meal: mush. I ordered the crab cake florentine in hopes for an indulgent, fresh seafood meal as a reward for facing the salty coastal rain. What I got was almost raw potato, a "dungeness" crab cake that resembled pudding more than anything, and a biscuit which harkened me back to my youth and my failed stay at home mother whom considered Pillsbury canned goods to be a meal. The saving grace of this business can only be its unbeatable port views and friendly staff. These dishes do not have spicy heat unless you ask for it, so no fear. My husband picked up an order to-go for breakfast while we were visiting town. The wait was longer than they originally stated it would be but it was a Saturday morning. They also forgot an item in our order but when my husband went back later they happily gave him a replacement item. The breakfast sandwich is large for only $10! It also comes on fresh bread instead of a plain old English muffin like most places would serve. Depending on your appetite, two people could share it. The home fries were plain but good.
