After 8 years of having Travertine flooring installed in our home, my wife and I started to notice some small holes in the Travertine and in the grout between the stones. We stopped by one of the flooring stores and asked if they did Travertine repair work. They referred us to Mario with Surface Busters. I learned Mario also did cleaning of the tile and sealing, in addition to patching holes. I contacted Mario, who came out the next day to give a quote to clean, patch and seal the floor. He was punctual, explained the cleaning process and provided a quote. It all sounded good, but I still always do my due diligence and searched Yelp for some reviews of Surface Busters, before having the work done. They were all positive. The images and videos all showed dramatically cleaned floors. Hence, I felt confident using Mario and scheduled him for an appointment. Once again, Mario was punctual. This company is very professional in the way they answer calls, schedule appointments and show up on time to give an in person estimate. However lets face it, all this really comes down to is vacuuming your tile with high pressure water and $7 in chemicals. Not sure if they even have a contractors license but either way, this is not rocket science yet they charge more than a doctor or lawyer for their time. I was quoted $1,350 for my first floor tile. And that was without the sealer which was "discounted " if I agreed to pay for them to come back in one year to have it sealed again ... for another fee of course. We contacted Surface Busters to clean, polish and seal our marble shower, tub area, lavatory counters, guest shower and kitchen floors. Mario was very professional during the initial consultation and pricing. We discussed the products that he utilizes for the various areas. Unfortunately we were not informed that the process includes running several hoses through the front door that would remain open for the entire day. Protection was provided but not maintained during the process. The cleaning was performed, however we had to create a punch list due to numerous items not being addressed in the master shower. The following week Mario returned with the same very young man to assist, and proceeded to work on the punch list items we created the previous week. During the detailing of the marble tops many scratches were created and the cast iron porcelain sink was damaged. After several hours of additional work, along with the damaged sink in our master bath, no further work was performed in the mater bath. Mario and his young assistant then moved to clean the ceramic tile floors in the kitchen. The floors look clean, however our Sub Zero refrigerator along with the baseboards were damaged in the process. Unfortunately Mario accepted no responsibility for any damages except for the sink, which he admitted. The sink repair cost was covered by Marion, however since we had two sinks adjacent to each other, both sinks had to have the porcelain coating performed so they would be of the same color. The stained refrigerator is damaged and beyond repair. Baseboards will need to be prepped and painted. Mario denied all responsibility even through he utilizes equipment that has 2500PSI and over 200 degree water; seems evident that the paint on the base will be compromised! Then the sealer for the tile; Mario explained that he uses Stone Pro and Laticrete products for the sealers which is not the case. it is a proprietary product. Mario explained the process of applying the sealer which was not in alignment with the installation instructions for the product. This was addressed with Mario, however he proceeded in his own manner. After the process was over Mario acknowledged the sink damage only and we negotiated a final payment, which was processed. After Mario left we realized the stain damage on the Sub Zero and we called him immediately. Mario returned right away and we reviewed the damage, at which time Mario stated he did not do it. We argued for more than an hour, and my wife was almost in tears, and I finally asked Mario to leave. read more

I called Mario out to see if he could clean the grout between our 15-year-old porcelain tile, approximately 900 ft.². I didn't have much hope as, embarrassingly, I have never had the grout or tile cleaned or sealed. He felt he could get it much cleaner than it was and so he came back to do the job. The grout definitely lightened up, closer to its original color, but the thing I was not prepared for was how dirty my tile was!
