Cardboard slice - frozen pizza is better.

Worst pizza I have ever had. Minimally a pizza has to be better than a frozen pizza - this cardboard product doesn't come close to any frozen brand. The owner should be embarrassed. I called the other pizza place in town and they have a two hour wait for a pie - not surprising! The owner should be embarrassed. Just un freeze some Ellios, your customers would be more satisfied.

Cheese steak and fries! Hot and delicious!

My husband and I picked up a cheesesteak and fries last night. Both fresh and delicious! Highly recommend!

Get your tetanus and vaccination shots!!! Dirty, Outdated, Upstairs smells like pee, carpet cleaner left out - can't clean that carpet, pizza tastes like glorified Ellios cardboard, and it's operated by too many teenagers.

This is half of the small cheesesteak! The large is 18 inches!

So glad the boys and I remembered Surf's Up as we finished our day on the beach today! We went for an everything cheesesteak and a large bacon pizza which were both fantastic! Customer service was phenomenal and Surfs Up will certainly be a yearly tradition for @MartinMountainMen

Our server was very friendly and appeared to be hosting and waiting tables at the same time but she was pleasant and prompt. We both ordered salads - mine was the chopped and husband chose Cesar and both were a very generous portion size and super fresh and delish. I really enjoyed it. Great price too. We chose to build our own pizza with just red sauce, cheese and Italian sausage. It was out quickly, piping hot, and VERY good. My husband is from St. Louis so he likes very thin crust and very crunchy (think cracker crust) and this was cooked to crunchy (but not burnt) perfection with fresh and yummy sausage on top. We both actually really enjoyed the meal - more than our fancier date night meal the night before. I'd absolutely come back here if ever in town again. It's charming and delicious. Ample parking outside on the street and very cute and charming both inside and outside.

Coming from out of town, always look forward to a visit to Grotto's. Still bummed that the Bethany…read moredowntown location was closed. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, headed here for dinner. It was busy inside, but we were seated quickly for a party of five. Once seated, orders were taken. The Alcohol beverages were delivered quickly, but none of the waters request. Had to flag someone down that proceeded to tell us to tell our waitress... ok, that was strange as we would have if we could have located them. We also ordered two salads as appetizers and only one came. We ordered two cheese pizza and one came right as soon as receiving one salad and other was delayed. We asked for knifes and had to remind a second time and then were told they only have a couple as all were in the dishwasher. So, food was good, but service had a lot to be desired. Maybe not enough servers.

I had been told by friends that Grotto Pizza is known as "grody Pizza" (to use a "Valley Girl"…read morephrase.) ....But I am not Yutzy-Futzy or a rich visitor to Bethany Beach from New York or DC with high-falutin tastes -- just a regular guy who figured that the negative reviews for Grotto Pizza were because in Bethany there ARE a ton of Rich utzy futzy folk who have little taste for basic and affordable fare. As such I was figuring that Grotto would be good-honest and acceptable for a "regular-joe" like me. Surely it's gotta be like Pizza Hut or Round Table or heck, even Dominos.... So I gave it a go.... And ummm NOPE! Waited for almost 10 min to be seated on a quiet afternoon while one employee after another walked by me purposefully avoiding eye contact with me. -zero stars So I had 10 min to look around at the condition of the place - it looked like it had not been deep cleaned for a decade - oh sure they are sweeping/moping the middles but you don't look at the edges or the corners NASTY-also holes in and completely worn out booth benches - and just generally sad worn out basic/and super cheap chairs and tables -Zero Stars Waitress was very nice and prompt (once someone got us seated). -Four Stars Salads were ok, lettuce was fresh but other elements were sparse, someone prolly took great pride in placing the one olive right in the middle next to the one cherry tomato. Dressing was cheap food service stuff. - Two Stars Now to the pizza. It was absolutely just "Grody" as I had been fore warned . It was a general combination specialty pizza straight from the menu. The biggest problem was it was WET Not from grease, but from water which I think may? Have come from canned mushrooms or very wet sweet pickled peppers It was actually dripping "liquid" and thus soggy. The lack of flavor sauce was made worse by how sweet it was - sort of like it was tomato paste mixed with sugar.... The whole thing was tasteless and also comprised of the cheapest possible ingredients. - Zero Stars I guarantee that a dominos pizza that bounced around a deliver car for thirty minutes and is basically cold - Would be an order of magnitude better than what was served to me. It's really sad because peeps in Bethany could use a good honest value driven pizza place - but this is not it. - Choose elsewhere and shame shame on the proprietors they could do so much better.I see this as a basically tourist trap restaurant. Total average stars --- ZERO. Oh yeah and the price is not good either . Absolutely No value for the money you pay.

The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.

We came back tonight determined to try their food. We came in with two groups eating and waited to be seated for about 4 minutes before someone came to seat us. Felt odd for the wait but it appeared there were only two people to begin with. Upon being seated, we were served water which is what we wanted and we placed our order. I loved the fish cutouts they had on the wall next to us. Took about 10-15 minutes for our food. We started with the pizza and it was exactly what we wanted. Simple but the flavors were there! Pesto, garlic and the mozzarella cheese that pulled apart string style! Maybe could have been a crispier crust but I was happy to have all those components hit the mark. We dug into the pasta and OH MY GOSH!!! Again, the simplicity of this dish with perfectly balanced flavors. The basil and the garlic on point! Oh and the sauce, light and a refreshing hit with lemon. Shrimp and scallops not over cooked. I kid you not, I would have licked this plate clean if my husband wasn't with me! I cannot fathom why we were the only ones in this restaurant because both dishes were delicious!!! Thank you so much for feeding our seafood cravings. WE WILL BE BACK! Only sad that we found it our last night here. Do yourself a favor, please support this restaurant. This has been added to our MUST GO TO places while visiting.
