Taco Tuesday! Could be better. The wife and I got a margarita and tap beer. Both were good and cold. Good tap selection. Two taco orders, a enchilada style burrito and cheese burger sliders. The waffle fries tasted like they sat around awhile, tacos were about like Taco Bell. The burrito enchilada wasn't as good as something from Taco Bell. My son liked the sliders. Service was okay. Just before we left we discovered a nachos buffet in back, maybe included with the meal, we don't know as nobody mentioned it. read more

What a great place in Mound! Lively sports bar atmosphere with TVs throughout the place and a long bar. A group of five of us went on a Friday night and nearly every table was full, but we managed to get seated right away. The menu has great variety: burgers, salads, sandwiches, and larger entrees. The portions are quite large so it's a good place to split or take leftovers. Fish and chips (daily special), burger, and southwest salad all tasted great, and I was even pleased with the mixed greens side salad. Always love it when it's non-iceberg. Our waitress was attentive despite the busy evening. I would love to come back here during the summer in order to enjoy the outdoor patio! Overall, great place for families or adults. read more

Our group of four had a great dining experience last night. Our server, Brandi H, was kind, clever and very helpful with the questions we posed to her. We couldn't ask for better service on a clearly busy night. She is wonderful! My friend gave her blackened salmon entree 5 stars. I can't eat fish so can't vouch for that but even the sides looked amazing with fresh veggies and a quinoa mix over spinach. My husband loved his reuben sandwich. It had tons of corned beef with the right amount of swiss, sauerkraut and 1000 island. I had the buffalo chicken dip with soft pretzels. I took a little longer to get as they make it fresh and they were BUSY. It was worth the the wait! Rich and decadent is the best description I can give and the soft pretzels were hot out of the oven. Wow, surfside has stepped up their game with the food quality. Prime rib was outstanding, their cheese curds are not bad and the dry rub wings are phenomenal. Why the 3 stars you ask? Well, the service is so bad that we left feeling like we weren't welcome. For a cold Friday evening it was not busy, tables were open and the bar was half occupied. When you get seated and have time to run back to the truck to get your readers to look at the menu, have a conversation about your entire week and plan a trip to Florida AND work through an entire house remodel and not once get acknowledged by the servers checking their insta's that's not great.... So move to the bar? Have a seat, the couple next to you sits down and orders but you're wondering if the invisibility shirts are working too well and finally decide to ask to order but you're told you have to wait your turn which we had been more than patient. Then the gal next to us in total shock says loud enough for the bar tender to hear, "Wow! Did he just yell at you?", remember, it wasn't that busy, I know he heard her.... So, we finally get acknowledged and I try to make light of my scolding and order. Hey, things are back on track.... But, then all the food comes all at once(we don't drink, had to retire or this scene would have gotten super interesting and instead of ordering sixteen cocktails we try to order more food to make up for the lack of sweet sweet liquor). Dinner was great, food was out amazingly fast but then.... When you have a new GMC diesel they upped the time it can sit warming up from 10 to 15 minutes and when you have to restart it while waiting to get your bill you start to wonder what is going on? Maybe my wife putting her jacket on could be a sign? Maybe throwing my card on the bar another sign? Maybe, just maybe putting my jacket on standing up RESTARTING MY TRUCK AND HOLDING MY CARD UP for the bartender to see would work, which he does but then turns and walks away... Finally, I get the bill after the fella decides he's good and ready. I'm throwing down cash because I'm afraid if I give him a card we could be Shanghai'd for another fortnight while he decides to run the card or not and that's when speedy Gonzales kicks into high gear and is hovering waiting for the cash and tip.... Here's the kicker, we both worked as servers and bartenders growing up and are very patient and try to be extremely empathetic to servers and bartenders but this was so bad I'm on yelp writing a review Saturday morning. If you go to surfside expect some decent food, can't guarantee the appetizers will beat your entrees but hey, they did come out hot and quick. Service? Maybe it was an off night... I could say this is not your (grand)parent's Surfside but that would only mean something to locals. This is a great addition to the growing western suburban side of town. There is no lovely lakeview but neither are there the crowds and attitudes of the cruising community. The food is very good, e.g. the upcharge chicken in salads is juicy and nicely grilled. The beer menu is good and served cold. Most importantly the bartenders and servers are friendly, accepting, attentive, and willing to work with challenges making ALL patrons feel at home (NB: restrooms are gender specific) read more

Quaint place with nice selection of tap beers. Did not order any food but the menu appeared to have plenty of options. Arrived before kickoff of the 3:30 PM football game and it was very quiet but became very busy by dinner time. While the game was shown on most of the TVs, the bar played music instead of the game play-by-play, which is a mark down in my book. Bartenders were very attentive. read more

I arrived at Surfside bar and Grill approximately 10 to 7:20 I ordered two cocktails from the bar those two cocktails were transferred to the server I then ordered at approximately 8 PM to hard shell tacos ground beef I waited an hour and a half I then said to the server here is that order coming out she said you haven't got it yet I said no she said I'll go check she came back she said your order is coming I waited another 20 minutes I never received my order I left the bar I went to another bar their kitchen was closed I went back I was then told from the bartender that the kitchen is closed and it has been closed for 30 min I then expressed how I waited and waited and waited now if you go on the website it says that your kitchen is open until 10 o'clock it was only 915 how hard is it to scoop up ground beef and two hardshell tacos at that particular hour but your kitchen is closed this reflects very poorly on management and the owner and I can promise you I am very pissed off!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Awesome atmosphere and good food! I am not the type to be a regular anywhere but Surfside has converted me. The staff has always been very polite and accommodating. Nothing beats great service other than some meaty and juicy wings ha! Best wings I've had in a long time. My husband loves everything on the menu but my other personal favorite is their steak. Flavored and grilled to perfection! For sports, parties, happy hour or just out with the family (to include kids) this is a fabulous addition to our community with the potential to grow. read more

I like the burgers and fries (ask for them to be crispy), flatbreads. I haven't had good luck with their salads. It is bar food, so set your expectations accordingly-- and with that said, it's a bit high-priced for being so. If it were either cheaper or fresher/healthier, we'd rely on it more often as a last-minute dinner option. read more

Nice happy hour for beer and wine prices. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a Chipotle chicken salad. Tons of cheap croutons that were not listed on menu, barely 1/3 the chicken as a typical chicken salad has and served with a avocado ranch dressing. I love avocados and this dressing was not as good as most ranch dressing. I would like to see this establishment succeed. I hope they read their reviews. Tried Surfside a year or better ago and had a very bad, very rude experience so we decided to try again. We won't be going back again - ever! The staff are rude, snotty and if they don't know you you have to ask for service. We ordered a drink, had to ask to order food, which came in ok time and was good. We ordered a second drink and it never came so we asked for the bill. We were charged for the 2nd drink but didn't get it and the bartender gave some excuse for putting it in but never delivering. We had a great waitress that I noticed was actually running on a couple occasions to make sure everyone in her area was taken care of. Absolutely ridiculous. Came in with kids at 6:30 on a Sunday and was told they were busy but it would be 15 min for a table. 8pm and we still didn't have our food. I will never come here again with kids. Not an issue with the wait, realize that happens, but you can't tell a family with kids 15 minutes and then have them wait that long - 8pm and they still can't bring us food? And the added bonus is the guy from the kitchen drinking behind the bar as he brings out every order- really classy and clearly not a focus on service. read more

I'm still up in the air about this spot. It's had its good days and bad. I'm not a fan or their flatbreads - the cheese and topping (specially pepperoni) are all too artificial for me - this should be an item that any restaurant nails just like wings. The lobster roll is so-so / fair at best. Service can be really good or really bad. So far everything's been hit or miss. Most recently the service has been poor, so laying low from stopping in in hopes of this changing someday! read more

Our family was in the area for family pictures. We used yelp to find a place to eat. Pulled into the parking lot and almost left because of the more recent one star reviews. I am glad we didn't leave. The food was really good. I had the beef stroganoff. It had nice large pieces of steak with a great flavor. Best stroganoff I have had in a long time. My wife had the chicken sandwich, which she said was juicy and flavorful. My kids had adult burgers. They said they were really good. Oldest said he was in burger heaven. Anyway, lesson learned, don't trust all the bad reviews. I would come back again to try other items on the menu. I recommend this bar for its food. read more

Was on motorcycle ride and saw this up ahead and pulled in. I got to say their staff is very attentive. The bartender was very good. He was a good bartender. He had an original style, he is what bartenders are suppose to be. His name I just forgot but their menu is great. And the stuff is cheap. If you live in the cities it is well worth the trip to eat here. If you read my reviews you know what I like. But I am a cheese curd fan. And these where done just right. They are better then the MN fairs. And I love those. They have a good unique menu which I would like to sample all of it. Ordered a burger last night. When I received it in the basket I noticed a piece of chewed gum on the inside of the basket. I waved the server over to show her the piece of gum. She went back into the kitchen and came back to inform me that no one in the kitchen was chewing gum so she didn't understand how a piece of gum could mysteriously appear with my food. She made me feel as if I deposited the gum. She did though offer to buy a round of drinks and take $3.00 off my meal. Suffice to say that I will never visit Surfside again. read more

I've driven by this restaurant many times and finally had an opportunity to try it out. I really wanted it to be good despite the reviews and things I had heard. The ambiance was very nice but other than that, it was awful. First off, I asked for a glass of chardonnay and received a glass of red wine. No big deal, it was replaced. Then we ordered "crab and brie fondue" which was basically a small flat bread with a bowl of dip. We ordered a chicken cajun sandwich (which was average but not very cajun) and the blackened salmon. The first piece of salmon we were served was not cooked through. At all. We returned it and were served another piece of salmon. This one was only about 1/3 cooked through. The server was apologetic but was also laughing a lot and did not have good customer service skills. Someone stopped at our table (who we assume was a manager although she never introduced herself or stated her position) and asked if the second piece of salmon was better and we told her it was not. We also told her that the corn bread was not cooked all the way. She apologized and thanked us for our feedback but also did not have customer service skills that I would expect. They took the $18 salmon off our bill which was the right thing to do. She said she would talk to "chef". Unfortunately, first impressions are hard to fix. We will not be back. read more

I love this place. It's a wonderful environment. It felt like a great local hang out where all the staff knows the regulars names. We walked in with a party of 5 and were immediately sat down. The waitress was amazing as well as the food. The burger was superb, great high quality meat, and there house made chips were great to. We also enjoyed the shrimp basket an amazing Cesar salad as well as the Buffalo wings which were "Minnesota Hot." Perfect amount of spice and tang. We are not from Minnesota which is a bummer because is we were we would come very often though we do visit quite frequently so anytime we are in town we will make sure to stop bye Surf Side Restaurant. This restaurant is really busting their butt to be successful and it shows. Everyone on the staff that we interacted with was really hustling to make customers happy. The $4 beers at happy hour (up to 6:00 PM) were a very good value. Our server, Carrie, was as good as I've had anywhere, anytime. She was on top of her business and patrolled her tables more diligently than the Iranian Navy in the Suez. One of my pet peeves is waiting for the bill. When Carrie asked if there was anything else and we said we were done she handed us the bill on the spot-I love that! On a scale of 1-10 she would deserve an 11. The rest of the staff were outstanding without making it seem like they were harried, despite the fact that they were jammed-well done! My wife had the chicken sandwich and remarked how fresh the bun was. I had the jalapeno burger and it was terrific. My only recommendation would be for them to grill the jalapenos, although they were so fresh they were delicious. My only negative has nothing to do with the restaurant. Existing the overflow parking lot while the street is full of parked cars is a death defying experience. The Mound Police need to step up and install some 'No Parking' signs next to the parking lot exits. read more

I have been here twice, and unfortunately, neither experiences went well. The service on the first visit (earlier this month) was fine, but my boyfriend was not happy with his food (he got the fish and chips- he said there was still a lot of skin on the fish). Mine was fine, and we wanted to try out their brunch, so we returned this weekend. We were not given brunch menus, even though it was before 2pm (the signs said it was served until then). We shrugged it off and ordered lunch food, then overheard the bartender tell another customer they had "run out of breakfast" because the morning had been so busy. This explained why the staff did not seem happy to be there- the bartender was not rude, but was rather cold and short- but it would have been nice if she'd mentioned that was why she didn't give us brunch menus. I ended up ordering the chicken sandwich...I have never sent food back to the kitchen, and did not this time, as the staff was clearly fed up with the day...but I should have. I work as a server, and that sandwich NEVER should have left the kitchen. It was visibly burnt. I almost commented right when she put it down, because it was obvious, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I really regret not saying anything and wish I had not paid for a sandwich that was barely edible. (No, I did not finish it. No, the bartender did not ask why not.) read more
