My boys and husband got 1/5 lb burgers and all loved them. A serving of fries goes a long way, but I saw curly fries go by with fry sauce and had regrets--they looked good. The gal working there was kind enough to get us some fry sauce. The walls are blue and decorated with surfboards and memorabilia from a baseball team the restaurant sponsors. Cute. Really good, fresh burgers. No ambience at all, but we weren't looking for it so all good. We asked for beer, but despite the giant beer sigh on the wall, they don't serve cerveza. Not a huge deal, but weird that they advertise... The service was awesome though. We struck up a conversation with the line cook who was peeling potatoes and the ended up giving us an extra basket of curly fries. Really good and not greasy. Also good onion rings! This has become my new go-to burger restaurant destination! I love all the options they have here for burgers, fries, sides etc. The owners/cooks/whoever have made a super well seasoned burger patty in like 3 different sizes(depending on your appetite) and just did everything right. I always come In and get the animal with rip curl fries and it's exactly the same every time, delicious and fresh. Tons of seating and the decor reminds me so much of the burger shacks down in SoCal. Went for lunch and ordered a club sandwich, which is stated as having ham, turkey and bacon. The sourdough was very burnt and hard and only had bacon. We asked the staff if they ran out of turkey and ham and said we only had bacon and they told us we were wrong and that was turkey and ham. Made me double check myself and take apart the sandwich and there was only cold bacon straight out of fridge. They would not fix sandwich and insisted that the meat was ham and turkey. I had been wanting to try out Surfside Burger Shack for awhile, and I was very impressed with both the selection and the set-up. Very cute place! There are a few arcade games in the back that in addition to the decor and lighting, give it a very casual, old-school, beachy vibe. My burger and fries were good, but a little on the dry side for my taste. The flavor was great, however! My friend really enjoyed his combo, so perhaps the dryness of my meal was an exception to the usual mode of things. I'm definitely willing to eat here again and give it another go! Parking can be a little iffy considering its location right along the 101, but parking is pretty plentiful (and safer) along the side streets. I look forward to coming back and exploring the menu a little more, and maybe playing a few arcade games while I'm at it! read more

Their burgers are great, tasty, juicy and they gluten free buns. Most people get their food to go but they do have quite a few tables in the store. I really like the idea behind the Surfside Burger Shack, but the food just isn't that tasty. This is my third attempt at eating here and I really wanted it to be different. I ordered a Mushroom & Swiss combo with fries. The taste of the burger patty itself was completely drowned out by the cheese, which didn't resemble real Swiss. It tasted more like American cheese. The consistency was mushy and the lettuce was soggy. The fries looked like house-cut fries, which is nice. They were fresh but seriously needed seasoning. I'm a very happy regular at Stars Burgers in Arcata and wanted to expand my burger horizons. Unfortunately Surfside, I can't ride the wave. Wait, there are positive notes! The wait was a long time because there was one chef making all of the food. I ordered a Bacon Bleu burger and it was depressing. Patty was dry, the blue cheese had no taste, and there were pretty sad pieces of bacon. The burger was 75% lettuce and mayo to where I got sick from the amount of mayo on it. I also asked for no tomatoes and fried mushrooms as a side but I got tomatoes on my burger and got fried pickles instead. At least the pickles were good. read more

The burgers are good, but if you really want to try their zucchini sticks.. they cut right in front of you that right in front of you and cook it right there by far top five zucchini six out of her had, not to mention the service is amazing. I don't know what was up with this place but I ordered lunch and waited a solid 20 minutes - the cook was gone, then came back - and didn't do anything to get the order going. I had to leave for a meeting with not a hint of movement toward doing anything on the grill. I would've chosen to be late if there was any indication that my burger was gonna be made! read more

The fries were cold on the inside, not just mine as others were dealing with the same thing. I also got the BBQ sandwhich that felt dry, and it tasted like if it was from yesterday leftover. So dry that it wasn't worth even finishing or complaining about. read more

It was okay. We got the Blue burger and Mushroom burger. I think next time I'll ask if they can make it medium rare. They were made well done and I forgot to ask for that. We also got bay fries, zuchini sticks, and onion rings. It was good just a little too oily, but not the oilest I've had. Overall it was ok and 3.5 for us. Extra points for delivering during shelter-in-place! I've been wanting to stop by and if I'm going to get takeout during this lockdown I wanted to go local. It was the perfect choice! I really enjoyed the flavor of the burger, seasoned really well. Hand cut fries were bomb! And the onion rings are to die for. I've been looking for a good beer batter onion ring around humboldt for some time, and I knew from the images that these were gonna be good. And they were so yummy! The batter as clearly seasoned well and I just appreciate that extra step because a lot of places skimp on basic seasoning. Ooo, their ranch was also really tasty. Since the two ownership changes this place is really hit or miss with everything from customer service to the quality of their burgers. Something which others seem to agree based on other reviews. I've been there many times since. Although they say their meat is quality, why do they cook it medium well or well if not specified, unlike 6th and E which does medium rare unless specified. Since I like juicy burgers I always prefer medium rare. So 6th & E gets my vote since I don't have to tell them the best way to cook my burger, they know and it always comes out great. I'm sitting in surfside burgers now. I ordered big wave bacon cheddar well done with small fries. The cup she gave me would be considered child size anywhere else. I asked why she said cus I got small fries. I asked to get a larger cup she said it would be $2. I didnt get it. Told her thats ridiculous. Waited 1/2 hr for food. She brought it in a bag tied up. So lets see whats inside. Burger is in to go box, fries are not. Burger is falling apart when i pick it up. It tastes good well done good! Had to go ask for napkins and ketchup. I really enjoyed eating here. It has a modern nostalgia going on with it's retro checkers, surfboards and reggae music. I can definitely tell that each hamburger pattie is hand made and seasoned with salt and pepper. My burger was extremely juicy! It was running down my arm after one bite. I'm always on the lookout for a good burger. I also take a lot of pride in my own burgers! Surfside has really nailed down the important basics and foundation of what makes a fantastic burger! Not sure why it matters I had one item from another restaurant since I purchased food and drink from your establishment. I'm also not a jerk, and did not smoke near the door as to not offend anyone, I was at least 20 feet away and still was told to walk further down when I was no where near the entrance. But mostly, yes, your employees did know I was there to pick up a carry out order, which I told the male server my name when he questioned why I was sitting outside like I was loitering or something. Excellent spot for a solid burger and fries in Eureka. The vibe is chill, and the food is good. This is a very laid back establishment, and there are arcade video games in the back room. Prices are super reasonable for what you get, and the variety of burgers and quality of food are impressive. I've been here a few times and it has been consistently good. My one problem with this place is the name. They are nowhere near the surf. Not even close. They're not even really near the bay with their location on 101. So, definitely come for the delicious burgers and friendly service, but don't expect to see surfers hanging 10 out the window. read more

Stopped by as I was passing through this town on my way south. Ordered a few fried items: zucchini, onion rings, and chicken basket with fries to hold us over. Boy did I regret it. The food arrived and it was oily, burned, and too spicy. Had to pick up with the napkin to offset the oil dripping off. It did soak up the food's oil but wasn't enough. The batter fell off the chicken and zucchini. Couldn't eat any of it. Maybe it was just a bad day for the place. Sorry to say but won't be back. read more

For a restaurant voted "Best Hamburgers" I thought it would be fair to give this place a second shot when the first time around the burger was on the dry side and the fries could have been skipped.
