The hotel is a dump! Our room had no TV, no water glasses, the overhead fixture had no bulbs nor cover, the dresser was missing a drawer and one of the table lamps didn't work. The stairs are rickety and it's hard to believe they are compliant with code. The staff was fine, but the hotel is not. Don't stay there!! read more

Our first stay here with a group of friends who are regulars we were bayside on top floor the room were clean and decent size however the main building where you check-in and where pool restaurant & bar are located was unavailable because of structural issues during Ptown Pride weekend I have to say we should have been advised of those safety issues that and the more than mile walk to downtown we will not be back read more

Ok fellow yelpers...this is a tough one to rate because staff are so wonderful. At the same time, we had an expensive water front king where the room wasn't as big as I hoped for and kind of beat up. Including the bathroom where the tub took half the morning to drain. Breakfast? Muffin, fruit, coffee and a selection of granola bars from the variety pack at BJ's. Come on.... Convenient option near the heart of Provincetown right along the beach with several options, including studios and larger 1-2 bedrooms. Note that the beachside rooms do not have AC so the view is a trade-off. Parking is also included, and there is a nice private beach. It's a great pick if you want a nice, clean place to stay that is close to all of the key places on Commercial Street. The rooms themselves are very clean and include a full kitchen with a small fridge, microwave, plates and cookware. The only downside is that the Wi-Fi doesn't work well so I ended up using my personal hotspot. There are also open lounges where you can work or catch up on reading/browsing. read more

After telling the staff by phone a week before that we were coming to celebrate our 53rd anniversary, and them saying that they would make sure we were given the top floor and put us in their best room , they put us in a room by the staircase where we had no privacy and an obstructed view of the water. I do agree with past reviews that the rooms are a bit outdated. But nonetheless the room was pretty clean (4/5) in general. Nothing that really scared me off . It did have slight musty scent when we first arrived but was able to air the room out by cracking open a window. Not sure if I saw any elevators, but any floors above the 1st floor requires a flight of creaky stairs. I give this place 5 stars for the amenities that they provide. Granted we came a little off peak time so the stay was cheaper and was less crowded. Guests have access to a private beach across the street, a pool, parking included with the stay, small breakfast, and an outdoor lounge area. We stayed for only a night but was able to leave our car in the lot and continue exploring the area after checking out! It's such a convenient place to stay to explore the town! read more

We usually stay at a bed and breakfast closer to town, but they were booked and a family member was staying here, so we did too. Pros: -Staff are amazing. Super helpful and friendly. -Large parking lot with free parking. If you've been to Ptown you know this can be tricky the closer to "town" you get. -Heated salt pool and easy access to beach (with a shower head to wash your Sandy feet off). -Walking distance to the center of town, if a mile is do-able for you. -Fire pit and lots of outdoor seating on the patio, which was particularly nice at night. Cons: -The beds (at least ours) are super uncomfortable. I got maybe 5 hours of sleep, not ideal on a vacation. -The room was humid, the window curtains looked like something from a crime scene, the wall trim was falling down, and the bathroom needed some help (grommets on shower curtain breaking so 1/2 of it hung and didn't actually stop water from coming out of the shower, hair that wasn't ours stuck to the door frame, hot water that takes forever to warm up). -Lots of kids (off leash) and dogs (on leash) running around. If you're looking for a more quiet or child-free setting, this isn't it. If you have kids and pets, this might be the place for you. Overall, in a pinch, we'd stay here again but it wont be our first choice. read more

Well we love P-Town and decided to book this hotel as it was right off Commercial St and had beach access. As lovely as this was the hotel is absolutely filthy. There was mold on the curtains above the AC unit. To top things off we asked for fresh washcloths and there was a big s### smear down the middle. The pool was closed for two days for mold(the water was green) The floor was dirty, and there were ants all over the floor. The shower was never cleaned, all of our old face cloths were left in the shower indicating it was never cleaned. Although the staff is nice we won't be returning. Surfside is such a convenient place to stay if you're going to hit up P-town! Just a short walk to the heart of town (3-5 minutes), it offers parking included in the rate, a heated saline pool that goes to a 10 feet depth, and a private beach as well as wine and beer options you can enjoy right on the sand! Service is lovely and attentive, there is a grab and go breakfast in the lounge, and they also provide beach towels. All in all, the hotel makes for a very luxurious and convenient stay, especially if you plan on drinking and dining late into the night in the town. The rooms themselves are definitely dated and we had a mild fly problem when we first got in (I killed about 3 of them but by night time...they had mysteriously all vacated the premises). The beds are soft but sleepable and the linens are clean and comfortable. The water pressure is good. Overall, decently clean, and even if the rooms are on the smaller/dated side, you should be out and about enjoying the rest of the amenities anyway! Great hotel; would recommend. Our rate was ~$260 per night for a room with 2 double beds, and that's including tax, and other fees. read more

Ok. Let's start with the good. Firstly the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They save this place. They were really gave us everything we asked for - extra blankets, roll away bed etc. There's a quaint old phrase "you can't polish a t*rd" but the staff here will die trying. Secondly, the view is spectacular from the waterside rooms. You feel like you are actually in the ocean. And you can WALK to the center of town which is essential as parking is virtually impossible to get. Bonus. Thirdly, you can have a dog there. Traveling with a dog means you have to put up with certain things and expenses. I get that. We loved being able to bring our dog and it was ok to leave him there when we went to dinner. On to the bad. The place is really shabby. Shabby-chic? No. Shabby shabby. Peeling pain on the ceiling, missing window glass, sticky carpets, broken floor, feel-the-wire thin mattress on the sofa bed. Not really a fan myself, but the stream of ants didn't seem to object. It would be hard to overstate how grungy this place is. The owners clearly spend nothing on this place and why would they when they can fill it without having to. Oh did I mention the WiFi is very poor. Bring your own dial up modem. I don't even particularly mind crappy places for a night or two. But this was REALLY EXPENSIVE- around $1200 all in for a couple of nights. P-town is expensive but this was April. All in all we had a really nice time and everyone who worked there- front desk, cleaners, maintenance staff- were so friendly. But for them and the view this is barely even a one star place, especially at the price. read more

We enjoyed the most lovely first Father's Day for my husband at the Surfside Hotel! We were so pleasantly surprised by our ocean-front view. It felt as if we were on a cruise ship! We were able to relax on the balcony and watch the sunset over Provincetown Monument after we put our little one to bed. There was plenty of room for our pack and play / baby gear and the room was equipped with a mini fridge for bottles, which made traveling so easy for this new mama! The hotel was the perfect distance to downtown. Close enough for a stroller walk, but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle so our daughter could sleep and we could feel safe. We would like to make a special shoutout to Fernanda Loureiro who made us feel right at home and was so accommodating. My husband and myself stayed here last Sept 2023. We also had our little dog with us. The room was ok, good location but they had trouble with getting staff. Things were still not quite right after the pandemic. Housekeeping wasn't the best by any stretch but I tried to understand. Manager was very nice BUT I noticed a brand new book I had that I didn't even have a chance to take out of my suitcase was not in my bag when I got home! Someone also took a brand new Revlon one step hair dryer (a big brush that's plugged in) as well. Who knows what else they took. I did call the front desk to let them know. I WON'T BE BACK. Surfside PTown is all about not judging a book by the cover. Admittedly, at first glance, I was underwhelmed. We booked through Expedia at a more than fair rate for Provincetown. Apparently the Expedia rooms are relegated to the back of the resort (the more desirable, and no doubt more expensive) rooms face the beach. So up a steep exterior staircase to a dark and dingy corridor. (Having just seen the recent "American Horror Story" season filmed in Provincetown I couldn't help but wonder how the producers missed Surfside as a possible location.) Then into the room itself. But to be fair, the room was clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed for our stay. And the hotel staff is especially helpful and kind. (Shout out to Miguel who checked us in.) All considered, we left smiling. Only downside for those who don't plan on driving is the distance from the center of town. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we rented a car. The large parking lot is a nice incentive. read more

It was within walking distance of all the Provincetown action but it's own quiet little beach front oasis. Beautiful pool & nice little cocktail lounge on site. This was my first visit to Ptown so admittedly I had no frame of reference. But I can honestly say that this hotel was the sole reason I convinced myself I would never again return to Ptown up until day 3 of the 5 day trip....at which point Ptown's magical powers finally began to outweigh what can only be described as an exorbitantly expensive, ghastly abode. I get that Ptown is expensive and prices and relative. I get that there are pricier options of higher scale that I could have selected. But there also comes a point when you've paid almost $400/night for so little in exchange that you have to question whether you're being taken advantage of. Pros: 1. Friendly and helpful staff. We had some significant issues with our room during the stay, and the staff did get the issues addressed quickly 2. Evening fire pit was nice and the saline pool (though I didn't use it myself) 3. Beds were comfortable Cons: 1. Rooms are in dire need of renovation. The room I stayed in had not been renovated in at least 20 years, likely longer. Wallpaper peeling by the corners with water stains, extremely loud bathroom fan that can't be turned off separately from the light, squeaky doors that woke up my roommate every time I went to the bathroom at night, carpet that had many visibly stains, etc etc etc 2. No housekeeping. At all. You guessed it: "Due to Covid". This was not advertised at any point during the reservation process or even after the fact. But unsurprisingly, no reduction to the $30 daily "destination amenity fee" . I am so tired of Covid safety concerns continuing to be exploited as a convenient way to avoid a costly service (which was previously deemed a minimum expectation) while providing customers nothing in return. Particularly when those "safety concerns" are clearly of no consequence to any other employee on the property, no masks, no hand sanitizer stations, etc. At $400/night, it's greed. 3. The building I stayed in (opposite of water side) is not well constructed and inadequately soundproofed. There is no concrete between the floors, not that you would expect this of a 3 story building, but I could hear every single step the person above me took, could hear his muffled conversations, etc. All throughout the night, and it woke me up several times. Not because he was necessarily being loud...he was just walking about the room. I've never experienced soundproofing this bad in a hotel before. If you're a light sleeper and are not on the top floor, you're in trouble. 4. Rooms had obviously not been cleaned to any degree of thoroughness. We found used straws just a couple inches under the bed, a laundry sticker randomly left on the wall, mildew in the shower, etc. 5. Lastly, we had two pretty significant issues arise with the room on the same day. First, our shower handle completely broke off when attempting to turn on the shower, apparently due to significant rust. They fixed this within a couple hours. Our hairdryer caught on fire (literally) a couple hours later. Caught on fire. As in sparks, smoke, smell of burning plastic etc. Was quickly addressed too, but what in the world. Honestly, if you are gay, 9 out of 10 that you won't be happy here. read more

When you pay Provincetown peak season prices (aka a ton more of what you would pay anywhere else in the country) and you get mediocrity, that makes for not very happy customers: The Pros: We found the bed to be comfortable Free parking The location, while not the most central in town, was good enough for us since we are avid walkers. 15 minutes Now on with everything else: The room: As many others point out, the room is old, outdated, and worn out, in need of renovation (although to be fair, much of the hotel stock in Ptown is similar). The walls could use repainting to cover stains. The carpets look decades old. Creaky floors. The AC unit is old and loud, but at least that helped as white noise to block outside noises. The service: When you are paying over $300 a night for what's essentially and old motel, at least I was expecting great, personalized service. Gosh was I wrong. More on it below. Hidden Fees: When checking in, we were charged almost $100 (!) for "additional/resort fees". I hate the lack of transparency. In our 10-day vacation in New England, this was the only property that charged more than advertised. Not only that, but when we asked what the fees were for, they grudgingly gave some vague explanation about amenities and "WiFi" (!!!). As per our booking on hotels.com, WiFi is free? The pillows: As with some other hotels during COVID, the front desk staff announced that there would be no room service to minimize contact of their staff with hosts. Fair. My partner and I require additional pillows to sleep because of our back issues. In anticipation of the lack of room service, we called the morning before checking in to ask for additional pillows in the room, and the answer we got from the person on the phone is "we'll try". Later that day, the hotel staff called us to ask about our arrival time and I used the opportunity to ask about the pillows again. Good thing I did, because no extra pillows had been sent by the person we spoke to in the morning. Breakfast: The property is offering Grab&Go breakfast bags (as many other properties) because of COVID. One morning we missed the window to come get breakfast, so I called the front desk to ask if they would have some bags left or at least a few items left grab. The answer was a categorical no. Granted, it was our fault for being late, but it's not like we asked every day: we asked just once. When the breakfast is essentially muffins and yogurts, it doesn't seem too hard to go grab a couple of spare ones. This wasn't a big deal, but it was just another drop in the glass that made us feel that service did not really care much at all. Shower Drain: Our shower drain was totally stuck. I called in the morning to report it. They said someone would come in and fix it. We came back to the room at night and no one had come yet. We had to call again a second time to finally get someone to fix it. Late check-out: Standard check-out time is 11am. The night before our departure we requested a late check-out. The answer was a categorical No. We were told to check with the front desk person in the morning. In our case, that kinda defeats the purpose of late check-out (sleeping in a little longer) if we still need to wake up in the morning anyway to phone the front desk... I would also point out that we were departing on Monday after Labor Day weekend, when a LOT of people are also leaving town. You'd think that means lots of rooms to clean? So the morning of departure we call the front-desk again, and this time we are told we can stay one extra hour until noon. I offered to pay extra money to let us stay until 1pm or 2pm, but the answer again was a categorical No. At around 11am, cleaning service knocked on our door. We explained to him that they let us stay until noon. This guy was actually super nice and told us that he has "a lot of rooms to clean" and that we can stay until past 1pm if we need to, so we did that. When I finally went to the front desk to return the keys, the woman there was furious! This is how the conversation went: Me: Hi there, I am coming to return the keys Front-desk woman: (without any greeting, just furious) I told you to be out by noon! Me: Oh, but the guy cleaning the rooms told us it was ok to stay until now because there are so many rooms to clean. Front-desk woman: He does NOT get to make that call! *I* make that call! Me: ok.... but if a member of the hotel staff tells us something, why would I not believe him? Front-desk woman: Front-desk staff make the calls! Perplexing. No "thank you for your stay", just anger. Why on earth, if the guy cleaning the rooms himself admits that he has a lot of rooms to clean was the front-desk lady so stubborn on the check-out time? Power display? After spending $1,000 for a 3-night stay in their worn-out motel, this really isn't the service expected. Stay somewhere else. read more

My bestfriends got married on the beach at the Surfside and almost our entire family stayed here. "Festive" does not even BEGIN to describe it! For one, the owner/manager - Elaine - was so courteous and caring. She made sure we had everything we needed and took amazing care of my Uncles. She even gave them the best beachside suite to prepare for the wedding and their wedding night. So for family-friendly customer service, the Surfside gets 5 our of 5 stars! Now for what the rest of you reading this may care more about: Location location location. The Surfside is a good 10 or 15 min walk from town but DO NOT let this discourage you. The walk is along a beautiful narrow road that is lined with gorgeous New England homes, flowers, singing birds, bicyclers, art stores, restaurants and epic New England coast line. Some of the oldest homes in P-town are down this way and the further you get from town the more quiet, peaceful and local it gets. Gorgeous doesn't begin to describe it so don't let the short walk deter you - EMBRACE IT! With that said - a bike is an awesome idea. We rented a bike our last two days here and made it from one side of P-town to the other in a couple of hours. And the Surfside has bike racks so you can rent overnight with no worries. Now for the quality of the rooms and stay: Breakfast is nothing mind blowing, it's cute and basic and all you need to get started. They have pool side drink service and a small bar downstairs. Rooms had a mini fridge so we purchased beer of our own and walked around the hotel with it no problems. And the beach was easily accessible. I can't say it was a nice beach - but then again, I'm a Floridian. It was a beach, it had rocks, there was water. The best part about it is the beautiful boats everywhere. So if you made it this far then you're REALLY considering the Surfside and I'm going to tell you right now to just go for it. It's affordable, the rooms are good, the location is great, and the customer service is stella. You won't be disappointed. read more

You can't go wrong staying at the Surfside when in Provincetown. This place is near and dear to my heart. I actually had my wedding preformed on the beach at the hotel. The staff provided a full set up for free and gave us a 1 bedroom suite for the night even though we did not stay at the hotel for the week we were in town. No matter what any reviewer says, this is the ONLY place that is 100% consistent, clean and provides the best non-attitude place to stay while visiting Provincetown. My wife and I enjoyed a one night get away during the off season, but we can't wait to bring the family here during the summer and stay for a longer amount of time! While I'm sure their rooms and suites vary, ours had a wonderful living room, kitchen, master bedroom and children's bedroom! They was a dishwasher, microwave, full size fridge, stove/oven, even a washer and dryer! It was lovely in every sense of the word! The staff was also wonderful, a trait which they must learn from Elaine, the wonderful General Manager! They really treat you like family! We can't wait to go back! What a great place to stay while in Provincetown. my partner and I stayed there for a few days in September as a get away in the middle of our vacation to Providenice. We had a room on the water side of the hotel with amazing and breathtaking views of the bay. We chose this hotel from the reviews online and that our room also came with whale watching tickets ( I highly recommend doing that while there.) The room was very nice, a comfortable bed and quiet. The breakfast in the morning was very good and I liked that each day was different. There was ample parking across the street behind the other part of the hotel. The nightly fire pit was also enjoyable, sitting in the surrounding chairs listening to others chat and having them bring you into the conversation made it quite comfortable. I can say for sure on our next visit there, we will be staying again at the Surfside. read more

I recently stayed here for a few nights with my wife. We travel frequently and this was a fair hotel which we booked for a steal online. Given the great deal, I strongly felt the hotel matched what I paid. The staff was friendly and helpful, the fire outside was lit automatically at night without asking for it, the room was a little small but tidy (we were on vacation so we were out and about not sitting in our room all day anyway). While the hotel is on Commercial, it is about a 8 minute walk to the shops/restaurants downtown which could be tough on someone who isn't okay with walking distances. A great plus was the parking, it was great to leave the car there for a few days and not worry about it. It was nice and quiet at night since the hotel is far enough down Commercial to be a little secluded. I would absolutely stay here again. read more

Let me start this review by saying I work for a large international hotel chain. Therefore I am accustomed to clean and modern facilities. That being said, the Surfside Inn is not modern by any sense of the word yet that is perfectly ok given its charming location set on the bay. Our room was clean, not immaculate but not dirty. The shower pressure was good and the water always hot. We never heard any other guests near us and we slept just fine. The complimentary breakfast was plentiful although we preferred to go into town for breakfast. The coffee they served was especially good. Overall a very nice stay. WE , AS A DOG FRIENDLY FAMILY decided to go to Province town on 4th of July. AND WE are so happy we did. Everything was fully booked on that day, the girl on the front desk called about 10 other hotels and none had a room, after about 20 min of struggling for the room, the Manager was nice to give us a room that other people reserved and did not show up. AND THE BEST THING OF THIS HOTEL THAT IT IS DOG FRIENDLY JUST LIKE ALL THE BEACHES AROUND. My husband and I decided to come here for his birthday in April. My birthday is may 1st so it was a celebration for me as well! This was our second visit to ptown and first in the off season. It was also our first time staying at Surfside. We were greeted warmly at check in by the hotels general manager. The GM was extremely welcoming, friendly, and professional. She started our trip out on a perfect note and made us forget all about our troubles in the P and B bus (a different review). The hotel GM offered us an upgrade to a beach front room and encouraged us to get the first floor! We entered our room and it was beautiful and warm! perfect for the offseason! There was also a pool for the summer and a bar joined with the front desk. I didn't visit the bar, but the bartender/front desk (?) seemed friendly and a nice quiet place to relax. One thing that we loved about the room was how well they used the space. Some hotel room with small space arrange everything to feel smaller and trapped. This hotel uses everything to make the guest feel comfortable. The shower was very big and warm. Now for the best part! We opened the sliding doors to see a small beach outside and walked down to the water. It was beautiful and worth the cost of upgrade! Bullet points: comfortable, clean, convenient, and accommodating! My husband and I took advantage of Surfside's BOGO deal during the off-season. We originally were supposed to visit in October 2015 but terrible thunderstorms changed our plans. The general manager, Elaine, made it easy for us to change to a date in Spring 2016. Center of town is about 1 mile walk away so it's away from the craziness of town but still close enough to be convenient. Surfside is dog-friendly so bring along your canine buddies! They provide a dog poop station with plastic bags and trashcan so it's easy to pick up after your dog. There is also a dog washing station (though it wasn't functioning while we were there this past weekend) so it's easy to clean your dog after a day at the beach. Also - the complimentary breakfast was great on both days we stayed there! There are make-your-own waffles (mini and standard sizes), cereal, yogurt, bagels, and warm food options (one day: scrambled eggs & corned beef hash; another day: biscuits & gravy). read more

Let me start with the pros. We stayed at this place because it was pet friendly and I had to bring my two Chihuahuas with me. It's nice that they have a big parking lot. That's about where it stops. The first room that we were booked in was towards the water, and the room itself was very small. It felt very cramped with two people and two dogs. The hotel staff obliged our request to move to a larger room that was on the pool side of the hotel. This room was larger and more comfortable. In general, the rooms are very dated. There were visible patches on the drywall, there is an air conditioning unit in the wall that controls the heat and the coolness. It is very hard to get at a comfortable temperature, it's either too hot or too cold and when you run it is very loud. The rooms themselves are not insulated very well, you can hear people very loudly walking around outside or dogs barking and people having sex. The remote control was sticky when I picked it up. I thought this hotel would be closer to Commercial Street but it wasn't. Where this hotel is located not much is going on unless you're really into being on the beach. We tried to watch TV, except I found it rather distracting that they had a big Panasonic HDTV, but no HD cable so everything was in a grainy standard definition. The breakfast buffet is free, which is nice, except it's not very appetizing. French toast seem like it had been frozen defrosted, the waffle batter was totally bland, and the sausage patty tasted and looked like mystery meat. I guess you get what you pay for. We booked three days and two nights but checked out after two days and one night, because we found the accommodations to be subpar. All in all, not a repeat experience. read more

Just had a very nice stay at the Surfside Inn. My family of 4 and 2 (large) dogs were a bit tight, but still very comfortable in one of the new beachside suites. It was great to be able to just step out from our private porch directly onto the beach on Cape Cod Bay. The included breakfast is nothing exciting, but served the purpose our first day when we just wanted to get going quickly to Race Point Beach. Otherwise for eating, right next door is Fanizzi's where we had two good dinners, and the center of town is a healthy, but very doable, walk. (Parking in town is essentially non-existent making walking the more practical choice.) Lastly, it should be noted that while many hotels and the like now say they are pet-friendly, many are really more just pet-tolerant; the Surfside, and Provincetown in general, is truly pet-welcoming. We particularly liked the system that had you call before taking your dogs out of the room so that the room could be cleaned. We've stayed at some other very nice pet-friendly hotels where we've taken the dogs out for a couple of hours and asked to have the room cleaned, but come back only to find that the room hadn't been serviced. At the Surfside, this was not an issue and the room was always well cleaned. read more

Stayed here 3 times and love the place. It isn't gorgeous and modern and boutique like but it is clean enough! I found the staff very pleasant and appreciated they were locals who knew the area. Being able to cross the street to swim in the bay was a super treat on those days you don't feel like driving to Race Point. Love the coffee and the waffles for breakfast. I would be staying there this trip but it is all sold out. read more
