My friend really likes this place and wanted to meet for lunch, and I wanted to check it out, so today was the day! I arrived a bit early, definitely a busy spot for lunch with short line for a good 10 minutes straight. There are a few tables, the layout feels a bit odd as they have a TV, but most seats face away. The prices for me are aggressive, especially considering the location is off beat. I decided on a Chicken Kabob platter for $12. It sounds like a lot of food on the menu, but it comes on one of those smaller disposable plates, so much smaller than expected. The Kabob wasn't a traditional style it was more like cut up pieces of breast meat w/ no vegetables. It was served on top of basmati rice. There were small cubed potatoes about 7 of them w/ skins on. 2 pieces of pita, some fresh hummus, some fresh garlic tahini (not 100% sure about this), and a very small salad w/out feta cheese. Overall, it was okay, nothing grand, and definitely doesn't meet my value equation. The white sauce and hummus were the best items on the plate. My friend got the Lamb Gyro for $8, I thought it was a small portion, about 1 1/2 silver dollars in diameter and about 8 inches. I thought it looked small and it definitely would not fill me up, nor would I be happy paying $8! The place looks nice and is a family business. The cashier was nice and friendly. Based on my value equation (see my profile) this place didn't deliver for me. I doubt I would go back unless I was meeting someone for lunch again. read more

Though there are other menus in town with similar offerings, the folks at Suri's Mediterranean are primed to dominate with both savor and service. First off, the place is simple, cozy, and inviting. Better still, the service is fast and friendly, welcoming almost to a fault. Chances are you'll end up with something extra in your order--on the house--that the chef really wants you to taste. I'm certainly not complaining. A starting order of three stuffed grape leaves were firm--yet easy to bite through--with a smooth texture and tons of herbal, nutty flavor. They were accompanied by shirazi salad--chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, and herbs--tossed in olive oil and lemon juice with a few dashes of salt and black pepper. Very fresh and satisfying ($5). A bowl of lentil soup with rice was more subtle, but a dash of salt and pepper perked it right up ($4). A plate of falafel--drizzled in tahini--was served on a bed of shredded red cabbage. Though a little dry--as falafel often is--the flavor and the crunch were quite nice. Adding a little more sauce did the trick ($4). Wraps include your choice of meat, falafel, or veggie mix, with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, tahini, and garlic sauce, wrapped up tight in very thin pita bread. We sampled beef and chicken kebab along with lamb gyro ($8 each). The well-seasoned ground beef and marinated chicken breast were both very good, but the lamb gyro was so good I think I may have besmirched the family name with my effusive reaction. The meat was outstanding. Combined with the sauces and veggies it was something of a religious experience. Platters feature basmati rice topped with roasted potato bites, further topped with meat and tahini. We chose beef and chicken shawarma; hummus, pita, and garlic sauce is served on the side ($12). I could have done without the rice, but the potatoes were fantastic. The hummus was simple, a perfect balance of chickpea, tahini, lemon, and garlic. The garlic sauce turned out to be a form of toum. A traditional condiment of the Middle East, it's often a simple mix of garlic, oil, lemon juice, salt, and water. Think aioli but with more punch. Suri's revealed itself to be Lebanese style, marrying those ingredients in an emulsion of egg white. The texture is kind of a soft meringue but with a buttery mouthfeel. It was pretty damn amazing and clearly the secret ingredient punching all our wraps over the top. Just when you thought things couldn't get any better, an order of loaded fries joined the party ($10). Hand-cut, peel-on, thin and crispy potatoes were topped with chicken shawarma, melted cheese, and drizzled tahini ($10). Words almost fail to express how wickedly good this combination is. It's a devil of a dish, the very thing that could convince one to sell--or perhaps temporarily lease--one's soul. Espresso drinks are available hot or iced, but I recommend the hot Persian tea. It is prepared by steeping loose-leaf black tea with dried rose petal, cinnamon stick, and whole cardamom pods ($2). If you like tea, you'll love this. Not to be outdone, we finished with a nice big scoop of housemade Persian ice cream ($3). It begins like any custard ice cream--with milk, eggs, and sugar--then flavored with rose water, saffron, vanilla, and finely chopped pistachios. It's much more of an aromatic experience than flavorful, and--as my wife discovered--not for everyone. It was a bit like eating sweet perfume, but wherein she polished off the soup I went ahead and finished the dessert. Decadent, floral goodness. If Suri's was open later than 6pm I'd be a dinner regular. read more

I am a huge fan of greek food and have been searching Reno for a good gyro for years. This is not it. I ordered the gyro platter expecting some meat, a side salad, greek rice, and at least two pieces of pita bread. For $14 I received a plate that was 75% plain white rice, about a 1/4 cup of seasoned potatoes, 8 thin slices of not very great gyro meat, and a greek salad. And only one piece of stale pita bread. I will not be coming back to this restaurant. read more

While contactless pick up is great, answering the phone requires no contact with us. We've been very loyal patrons for years but I don't like only being able to order online. Oh wow! Oh wow, oh wow, oh WOW!! Hubby and I wanted something quick, healthy and delicious on our way through town. Saw the great reviews of Suri's and made the decision to give it a try. First off, the woman who took our order was super sweet and offered a perfect side to my combo meal- even though it wasn't an option on the menu!! I ordered the mixed Swarma (chicken and beef) Second, the food is amazing. Big portion, for a wrap! Like size of my forearm big and so good!! Fresh, tender, satisfying, perfect amount of tasty luscious sauce, with crisp veggies and warm meat nestled in the pita. Third, apparently the same girl had heard me mention how I was interested in trying the grape leaves to my husband because she brought some to our table out of nowhere, compliments of the house. Lastly, adorable family owned business that is eager to please and just super helpful. Dad was putting up some kind of sports stuff because he was proud that Reno was going to get a Pro-Soccer team, daughter at register, son on grill. The sauce they put on our food was wonderful - not to thick, not to thin. We came in within 20 minutes of closing and ordered our food to go. The chef had 4 big orders at the same time! One of my favorite spots in Reno. The owner is welcoming and friendly. I have never had a bad meal. The fries are some of the best in town. Great garlic sauce, hummus, Tadzikki. My kids will eat anything on the menus and ask to go all the time. The salads, the dolmas, the lamb, the chicken shawarma, Mediterranean fries... I love the Persian tea. My wife and I moved here from the Bay Area 3 weeks ago. We had a DMV apt and were hungry so we yelped a local Mediterranean place to go to. She found Suri's and off we went. (it's a 2 minute drive from DMV!) Upon walking in, the place was super clean and the staff were all friendly and family owned from what I could tell. We ordered the Chicken and Mixed Schawarma plates. I haven't had schawarma that good before. The plate was huge to begin and there was so much chicken and rice + large chucks of tasty potatoes. The flavoring was also amazing. next time I will order a kabob. Their seasoning is so good they should sell on a Safeway shelf. My wife went back up to the counter to order Persian ice cream. While she was doing that the owner was passing out samples of his Persian tea. My wife is half Persian and we spoke about their food. The ice cream is amazing, I will be going back for sure to get more of it. I have learned and experienced enough authentic Persian cuisine from my in laws to know this was by far excellent food. I recently ordered from Suris's for a catering order for a group of 20. The owner was so helpful in taking my order and was prompt and on time with delivery. The food got rave reviews from everyone who tried it. The gyros meat and chicken were a hit! Everyone kept asking "where did you order from?!" Ordered the lamb gyro, chicken shawarma, and beef shawarma platter with a soda for three people and it came out to $30 ish which I thought was a great deal for lunch. Really great food and perfect size for a lunch option. The service was great and the man even brought our food out to us even though I started to get up to grab it he told me to have a seat and he'll take care of us. Please let me introduce you to the little secret hidden within Reno. My co worker introduced me to this amazing restaurant about a year ago and I have taken every member of my family since. My goal is to have everything on the menu, at least twice, so I can better educate future go'ers, what they would like. The mixed plate is as close to heaven as you will ever get. I have never had a bad carnal of rice, to unflavored potato square. The chicken and beef is always cooked to perfection and they have this white fluffy side option, made of egg whites and garlic (yes I had to ask, because it is so amazing), that is most likely served while waiting at the pearly gates. I have been to Suri's Mediterranean numerous times since they have been open. I've tried everything that they have had to offer and some specials. It has taken me a long time to write them a review because I wasn't able to figure exactly how to express my experiences with their food. Today was the day I've come to learn that it's "love". They have somehow managed to put love, heart, and soul in their dishes. The personal touch of amazing spices and flavors make you feel as if you are a guest in their home and part of their family. We went here today for lunch with a big group of people from work and everyone was really pleased with their food. I'm not a huge fan of gyro's, so I ordered the Greek salad with chicken. The chicken was amazingly crisp, juicy, and had AWESOME flavor. The salad on the other hand was blah. I like how the kalamata olives were pitted and the amount of feta cheese was perfect, but it definitely needed more tahini dressing. I think Nick's Greek Deli and Josef's Vienna Bakery have better Greek salads. If I could have had a bowl of the chicken I would have. I also ordered one falafel for $1 extra, being a huge falafel fan and it was quite tasty. The owner was very accommodating with our large party. We called before hand to see if he could reserve a few tables and they were more than willing to do so. Amazing food! Everything we had was delicious. Hubby had the chicken wrap and I had the falafel plate. My favorite part of the meal was the yogurt. It's seriously the best I've ever had, and I've sampled a few yogurts. Can't wait to have some more of this yummy stuff! The food wasn't your typical Americanized fare, which I'm so happy about. Came here for lunch. The place is quaint kind of looks like a deli store on the inside but is clean and probably seats like 50-60 people no more. We were offered free samples of their Persian tea which was very excellent. I definitely approve, if I were to eat here again I would for sure get some tea. The chicken gyro wrap was excellent.
